My husband and I love this place. We visited one of their locations a few years ago when we were looking for a place that served vegan Caribbean food. This place did not disappoint. There are several locations. They have hot food ready as well as smoothies, juices , sorrell , sea moss. I love that it's a great place for takeout. I definitely recommend the patties ,sorrell and a lunch special and peanut punch. They also have some sweet vegan desserts that are worth a try. My omnivore coworker put me on to this place (yasss my plan to spread plant based diet awareness is working as she thought I'd love it and she now loves it too!). She loved their lentil patties and recommended I try them. She SWEARS by them and orders 3 at a time! So they MUST be good! I ordered 1 of the soy chicken patties and 1 slice of their vegan pumpkin bread... Pattie: light crisp, flaky outer shell. Lightly flavored and paired well with the soy chicken center. The soy chicken was nicely seasoned and they placed the perfect amount in the center. Not too bulky or too thin. Bread: oh pumpkin flavor how I adore thee! It was so moist and didn't break into a bunch of crumbs or turn to mush. They surely know how to bake vegan treats! It wasn't too sweet and definitely satisfied a sweet tooth craving. It's also situated right next to a dope spot (Eve's Lounge) which has a vegan options on their menu and happy hour 4-8pm!!! Natural Blend is a very popular Caribbean vegan / vegetarian restaurant which is a staple for fresh pressed and blended juices, tasty vegan meals, vegan patties, and baked goods. I often get the small vegan citrus spareribs & jerk chicken combo. It's enough food, reasonably priced, and very tasty. My picky son even loves the vegan jerk chicken. I also love the akee & salt fish (real fish) with sautéed callaloo and roasted breadfruit so I often grab that on weekend mornings when I don't feel like cooking. I really like Natural Blend as the vegan/vegetarian spin off of 3Ds. They offer everything from pastries, patties, juices and meals (meat substitutes with rice and peas or variations of pastas). The staff though very kind don't know what is in the items they sell. Some items are vegan and are labeled as such while others are vegetarian. My recommendation is to have all items clearly labeled as vegan/vegetarian and to make sure everyone is aware of which items are what. read more

Last week at a networking event I listened to a 60 something year old white guy complain about "juice bars" in the upper west side. I was ilke, oh yeah, gentrifiers. Then he said, no no no, not the new ones. Apparently, juice bar was a thing before all the Juice Presses, Juice Generations, and Pressed Juiceries came about. And apparently to him, the old juice bars were dangerous and scary places. Fast forward to today, I stepped into Natural Blend after a short visit to the BKM. The vibe is homey and warm (temperature was also super warm and my glasses fogged immediately). Menu is somewhat vague but here is how it works - all the veggie meat dinners come with rice and peas, and for the "lasagna dinner" which is what I ended up ordering, you get veggie lasagna instead of rice and you still have to pick a protein. I actually got overwhelmed by the protein options so the nice guys gave me half pepper steak and half curry chicken. The food had massively flavor and tasted like home. It tasted so good that I forgot where home was. Throughout my meal there was a group of men next to me chitchatting in a language I didn't understand, but I could pick up the phrase "miss clinton" here and there. I assume they were just #fam since they didn't get anything to eat or drink. Everyone seemed to know each other. But yeah. I can see why some 60-something-year-old white guy wouldn't like this. read more

I am DROOLING while writing this review and reminiscing of their food. The texture of their vegetarian meats can take a few bites to get comfortable with but the FLAVORS and SPICES are incredible! We tried their Pepper Steak and Curry Chicken, both vegetarian and over rice. We also shared a pea patty/empanada. The pea patty was a little too mushy and reminded me of comfort soup (and the Curry Chicken dish as well). But I would still get it again! Prices are cheap. It's $7 for a small box that can really fill you up. The empanadas are $2.50 each. It's a little bit bigger than a hole-in-the-wall with some seating. I've lived in the 'hood for several years and never thought to stop in this place until today -- I should kick myself. The dinner that I just consumed was so incredibly bomb. I can't believe I've been depriving myself of this. Lawd. "Fish" patty = huge, flavorful, flaky, not too dry Citrus "ribs" w/ cabbage, rice & peas. = perfect portion, perfectly seasoned, and sooo much healthier than the usual dish - just ON POINT. The food wasn't generic like Golden Krust, nor was it slapped together like some of these other carrib spots pushing out dry ol' plates of rice & peas to make their rent bill -- there was some genuine TLC put into this food. Whoa. The vegan cassava cone ($3) is the bomb (and gluten free!). It's a huge square piece of super chewy and gooey goodness. Not too sweet either! It has a subtle spice of cinnamon...or nutmeg? Who knows...but it was AWESOME. And the sea moss drink ($4.50) is so good too. This simple combo is a filling lunch believe it or not and you can leave without feeling guilty of what you ate. I found this place because of Yelp. Beau and I decided to give it a try and as a fellow Jamaican I was pleased to know that a semi vegan restaurant was on the scene. Food: Rice and Peas - Well seasoned - Perfect Taste Curry Chicken - Needs a bit of work. The heavy curry flavor that I love was missing and it was a bit bland. SPICE/SCOTCH BONNET THAT BAD BOY UP! (wink) Stew Chicken - Taste okay. Nothing special - I think it should have some spices in it to differentiate the taste from curry. Other than the color of the two, oddly enough they were similar in taste. Citrus Spare Ribs - THE BEST! Tastes very good. It has a sweet taste to it. Very Enjoyable. "Oh, how I love thee!" If I were going to write a love poem to a restaurant, I would write it to Natural Blend. It is my favorite place to eat in all of the five boroughs. Natural Blend is a small Caribbean vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Prospect Heights, not far from the Brooklyn Museum. There are only four tables and a counter with a few stools in the restaurant, which specializes in making vegetarian versions of popular dishes with a Caribbean twist. My favorite item is the pepper "steak," which is served with a spicy rice with peas, and cabbage or steamed vegetables (I prefer the cabbage). The citrus spare ribs are something special too. The curry "chicken" is mild-flavored; I prefer my curry to be bold. All dishes come in two sizes (small or large). The vegan baked goods at Natural Blend are very good -- every bit as good as you'd find in the best non-vegan bakery in the city. I enjoy the vegan pumpkin bread in particular. The carrot bread is good too, but it has raisins in it. The staff are really nice and will help you choose a dish if you have a problem deciding. The first time I went to Natural Blend, I was offered samples of the dishes to help me decide what I should order. If you're nice and they're not busy, you might get offered the same thing. It's a good thing that I don't live in Brooklyn, because I would be tempted to eat at Natural Blend every day. No exaggeration. So after a day of pampering, my friend and I decided we needed to Kiki over some food. As we'd just gotten out nails done at a salon around the corner from Natural Blend, we decided to go there for something to eat. I love that Natural Blend offers plant based options. While I'm not vegan I do hope to adopt that way of eating soon and it's nice to know I have options. It was really nice to walk into this place and get greeted with a friendly smile and it really seemed that man behind this counter was very grateful for each and everyone that passed through the door. It made me feel like I was visiting family! Now let's talk about the food! It was delicious! I ordered a small lasagna with soy chicken chunks and I believe cabbage. I don't know what kind of magic they put in their food but the spices were on point, it was tender without being mushy, the portion was generous, the veggies were nice and soft yet a little crisp. I am definitely going here again when I'm on that side of Brooklyn. The only thing I would love to see change is the interior. I know it has nothing to do with the food, but I would love to see a brighter interior and a cleaner bathroom. I've had some delicious and some so-so items here. On my most recent visit, I had the vegan lasagna, which was excellent, very reasonably priced (around $4/slice), and it was full of veggies and vegan cheese. I also tried the 12-bean soup which was surprisingly rich and tasty, mostly due to the coconut milk base. I always like grabbing some vegan ice cream here but I'm a little burnt out on the very artificial-flavor of the Klein's ice cream so I'll likely try one of their homemade pastries next time. A total lifesaver/go-to/neighborhood fav.... my husband and I just moved to this part of bed stuy and on our first day in our new place we were definitely starving and also definitely did not want to cook. Both being vegans, we knew the take-out pickings would be slim (unless we wanted to walk all the way to Toad Style...). We went on a short walk and saw the Natural Blend sign like an oasis in the distance and made our way there... and the rest is history. A history that involves me visiting for a meal or a juice at least twice a week. I finally got a piece of that mouth watering lasagna. I don't know what they put in it, but I am addicted. I ordered the curry chunks and the citrus chunks and the steam cabbage to go with it.
