Let's say you were lured to the crap bar next door by a friend bartending there for the night, and you're outside, pretty buzzed, smoking a cigarette and you realize you're hungry. And let's say you turn around and notice one of those warming machines in the windows holding patties. And you think, "Shit! I'm trying to eat better but I just KNOW I'm going to wind up eating a beef patty sooner than later..." and then you pop in the store. And it's busy in there, really busy. There are all kinds of people ordering little bits of this and that after they get off the train from work, looking somewhat desperately hungry and so you wait. And then it's your turn and you ask what kind of patties they have. "Fish, Vegetable, and Tofu Jerk". Surprised, you order the tofu jerk and also some coconut sweet bread because it's in the glass case in front of you and looks so good. And you know it's gonna be good because of a variety of factors including the long line, the fact that everything else in the case looks really good too, and your food intuition which you have honed for years and years. And so you take it back to the crap bar and chomp into your Tofu Jerk patty and everybody wins. Because you're trying to eat better AND this thing here I'm eating tastes delicious. The coconut sweet bread you take home for your girlfriend to eat in the morning, partially because you know your gonna be banging around the house when you get home and possibly waking her up and partially because that's what you do for your girlfriend. My neighborhood default food spot. I love it here, the hot food plates are the shit and everything is vegan or vegetarian except the cod fish. Yes I accidentally ate a whole fucking plate of it thinking that everything here was veg. my fault. i admit it. let's move on. The hot foods include: curry chicken, sweet and sour ribs, and pepper steak all of which I've tried and all tasty. Everything plate comes with steamed veggies and brown rice with peas. The portions are generous large plates are enough for 2 and only 7 bucks and small plates are 5 bucks and filled to the brim. I always get a small whatever and eat one of their amazing patties. Even my meat eating tour partner Melissa loves them and that's a big deal. They've got soy, chicken, veggie, peas, jerk tofu, and fish. Hang on, not sure if the fish is veg, you should ask. I've had all of them, but the chicken- ridiculously flavorful and the crust flaky and fatty. The soy is good too, and so is the jerk tofu but the veggie is bland and boring. stay away unless you like lame food. They've also got smoothies, wheat grass, and a small grocery section of deli foods, trail mix, nuts, chocolate, and other assorted supplements and healthy looking things. I haven't had much of their baked goods but they have coconut cookies, sweet breads, muffins, cake, and cookies. Some of them vegan like the carrot cake, walnut brownies, and fruit cake. I've tried the fruit cake since it was something I haven't had before. It tastes like a Chinese haw flake dipped in red wine. I imagine it turns some people on, but it wasn't for me. Overall, a great place to meet a friend(just 1 or 2 since it really only has one table for 3/4 and bar stools), or take out, shoot some wheat grass, and eat flavorful, cheap, and healthy vegan Jamaican food. read more

This spot is literally around the corner from me in Prospect Heights- I love it for so many reasons! Cheap, vegan food that actually tastes GREAT. BBQ "ribs" over beans and rice (actually brown rice) has been devoured by me countless times and it gets yummier the second day for leftovers. So declicious and only $7- I love that they make their healthy meals tasty AND affordable. I've had their gingerbread- a tasty but it's vegan so it lacks a lot of moisture found in non-vegan versions but it was tasty nonetheless. Their patties are hot items and their juices are delicious. Obsessed with this place! Loved it so much I went back the following day. Wasn't until I visited Natural Blend that I discovered the Rastafarian Ital dietary principals which are similar to a vegan, macrobiotic diet. Except with WAY MORE FLAVOR. You can imagine that as a vegan, I was thrilled to stumble upon this fabulous Caribbean cafe filled with like-minded people. It's a teeny tiny narrow spot where you order at the counter, I only did takeaway though there are a few tables to eat in. The guys working there know their product and are really helpful when it comes to making suggestions for n00bs. I ordered the curried "chicken" with rice and (lentil) peas and steamed veggies plus a "fish" patty, an Irish Mosss drink, and a slice of carrot cake. All vegan. I rarely eat fake meats because they kind of freak me out but the "meats" at Natural Blend are amazing. Tender and flavorful. The chicken curry was delicious and the rice and peas were well flavored. The fish patty was amazing. I kept like looking inside to make sure the "fish" wasn't real. It tasted just like wonderfully seasoned fish. The Irish Moss is made in house and you can grab that and other pre-bottled specialities like ginger beer etc in a large sliding door cooler. The baked goods are all made in house as well. Natural Blend is great. It isn't "This blows my mind and everyone I know must eat here". That's sort of how these reviews come off. I didn't find the patties to be that great. I have tried two: the pea and the chicken. The veggie-steak was tasty. The veggie-chicken curry was just okay. I would love to know the nutritional value on the veggie meats and other foods from here because they're very .. savory .. which makes me think a lot of sweeteners and oils are being used. The smoothies are a little pricey $5 for small. They are really delicious! I didn't like the cinnamon coffee cake and I didn't like the vegan bread pudding - it was late and maybe they should have been heating with a creme sauce? You can try the baked goods with no real risk because they're only $2. The banana bread was awesome! Overall, I live here and I will eat here all the time. It's delicious. read more

I wanted to try everything, but settled on just a cone of perfect cherry-filled vegan ice cream (which, the man at the counter told me, comes from a local Kosher company), and a tasty slice of almond-flavored cake (which, the man at the counter told me, Natural Blend bakes right there). The beau & I decided on the "Curry chicken" and fish patty, both of which were very tasty. The seitan used for the "curry chicken" had the best texture, and I liked that the rice and peas were made with brown rice. Boy, I'm sad that I didn't discover this place sooner in the neighbourhood. It's a barebones place, more appropriate for take out probably. I did get the soy chicken patty, and 2 rice dishes. I don't remember what the 2 rice dishes were, but I did enjoy both of them (one more so than the other). I want to go back and try the rest of their rice dishes. After all the raves for the patties at Natural Blend, I honestly was kind of disappointed when I tasted the soy chicken patty - but maybe it's just not my taste - plus non-veg jamaican patties are also pretty darn hard to beat in flavour. The veggie chicken is fantastic and the spicy chicken in a whole wheat patty is even better and presumably more guilt-free. I love Caribbean dishes and the fact that I found it as a vegan version, let's just say I was very very happy. The service was amazing as well. The employee let us sample the different foods and they also had a plate of dessert samples. I loved that I was able to taste things before I committed to my order. We almost considered going somewhere else for lunch but after sampling the deal was sealed that Natural Blend would be our lunch. Also, the carrot cake was unreal. So moist and delicious. Essentially this meal was sent from heaven. My friend and I couldn't get over it, start to finish. 100% will be coming back here. I should probably try the dinners before I write a review, but hey. I'm ready now. The fish patties are deeelish. And aren't real fish, I'm quite certain. The day I went the crust was whole wheat, which worried me more than a little. The last time I had a whole wheat vegetarian patty, it was from the famous patty spot on Flatbush. Famous, that patty wasn't. Hard and dry, it was. The jerk tofu patty with the traditional crust is great too. Surprisingly, I think I prefer the whole wheat. Less crust/ crumbs everywhere. I love any and all things pumpkin, so the vegan pumpkin bread was quite the treat. The banana bread however, trumps that. I once asked what meat substitute they use for the chicken patties, and no one in the kitchen knew. This makes me uncomfortable. I've started cutting back on the unfermented soy products, but when I feel the need to walk on the wild side, I'll be back to try the dinners. read more

I miss this spot soooo much! I moved to LA and there is a big lack of Caribbean spots. I would stop by this place at least once a week for their patties, sorrel and on the weekends ackee and saltfish. Wawaweeewaaa! I was in the area and found this place on yelp, and am I glad I did!!! The staff was super nice and friendly! I went with the recommendations I read on yelp. Started off with a fish patty, which I really enjoyed. It was hot and flavorful, a perfect appetizer. Then I had the BBQ "ribs" over quinoa (which I wish I had a bucket of)... It was amazingly flavorful, with a little spice to it. The texture was really wonderful, felt like chewing real beef pieces. I got a small order of the ribs, and along with the patty, it made for quite a nice lunch. Finished off with the coconut vegan cake. Not overly sweet, and the coconut flavor plays well. Homygod!!! My mouth is in such bliss right now! Got the half and half curry chikn and citrus spare ribs, large and split it with my boyfriend. Perfect size to share! If I had to choose between the two, I would pick the spare ribs, sauteed style. Comes with rice, beans, and cabbage. A vegetarian/vegan paradise. They have juices and smoothies and wheatgrass and bee pollen! Haven't tried any of those yet though. This is a great neighborhood spot in Prospect Heights. I love the food here. It's all veggie, delicious and healthy. And they make some awesome smoothies too. I've tried the curry (fake) chicken over quinoa, and it's delicious. The lo-mein noodles are really good too. And way healthier than your typical Chinese place. I've also tried the vegan escoveitch fish, and I wasn't a fan. The vegan lasagna was just okay. Get the curry chicken - it's the best thing on the menu. And get it over quinoa. Really good. I also loved the smoothie with pineapple, papaya and yogurt, and the smoothie with peanut butter and sea moss. They also have great vegan baked goods - try the coconut bread. So good. Also, everything is very affordable. A small portion is enough if you get a smoothie or slice of banana/pumpkin/lemon/coconut bread as a side. I end up going here for take-out quite often. read more

Every time I go there, I HAVE to stop by and get a soy Jamaican patty regardless of whether or not I'm hungry. I'm not even vegan, but their soy patties beat any real Jamaican beef patty I've ever had. Sometimes I get two and save one for later. They are flakey on the outside, and inside it's so perfect and flavorful. Sometimes I get 4 or 5 and give them to my roommates. Share the love. Everything looks so yummy in there, from all the vegan pastries to the juices. Only bad thing is that they didn't clarify that the codfish patty they had was real codfish. I am addicted to the patties here and have tried every one except for the fish. They even have whole wheat crust once in a while (it's a little less buttery/flavorful than the traditional crust). As a part-time vegetarian I also appreciate that the ENTIRE selection is vegan. Pretty impressive and delicious, especially the lasagna. And the patties. To top it all off, I've encountered nothing but smiling faces on every visit! If you aren't already familiar, know that there is maybe one tiny table to sit at inside, so plan on wandering down to the BK Museum steps or nearby Prospect Part with your vegan loot. Incredible experience: terrific, unique food and smoothies at a very reasonable price. Spent a day at the Brooklyn Museum and popped over here for a quick, healthy lunch. I was very hungry and ordered a medium "curry chicken" bowl and one of the smoothies (for $6/7, they are sooo much better than the $8-10 Liquiteria smoothies!). Beware that there is limited seating, so if you come at a peak mealtime, you may have to take the food to go and there may be a line. I went at 3pm and there were plenty of clients but my order was handled swiftly. Hope to go again soon! I stumbled upon this place one day after work. I was searching for vegan restaurants and it was literally two blocks away from me. As always thank you Yelp for coming through. The restaurant is small and sells a variety of vegan and vegetarian foods. They make fresh juices.They also make baked goods, patties, soups, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and more. All I ever buy are the vegan ginger muffins. The muffins are $2 each and they are very good, if you like ginger. I bought a vegan cassava pone once. It was good but, I like the muffin better. I really like this place because the guys that work here are really nice and the muffins are tasty. I will definitely keep coming here and I will try something else soon. read more

First of all they have Sorrel juice. When I lived on the island of St. Kitts I would drink this weekly. The food is always fresh and flavorful. The spare "ribs" and curry "chicken" are my favorite dishes. If you want a light snack, get a vegan patty and a sorrel juice. You will not regret it. One thing is, I wish they made a few more options that didn't have wheat gluten as the main component. (Lots of veggies instead would be amazing).
