This is a wonderful place to introduce your child to a new wide range of creatures they would otherwise not have the opportunity to engage with. They also have an on-site café that apparently serves some of the greatest chicken nuggets in Jacksonville, and a small shop. The staff are knowledgeable and patient, the owner is a gem of a man, the facilities are clean and beautifully decorated, and if you're just here to look, it's a wonderful way to kill an hour. I hadn't been inside a planetarium in a few years and you still appreciate the wonder when you hear children awe at the science and story telling in front of their eyes. I know animal collections change over time, but it just didn't feel like there was nearly as much to see. I was also disappointed to hear the koi fish had been transferred to another zoo since they were always one of my favorite stops. For me, the biggest issue was the value. Ticket prices have gone up, but I left feeling like I paid more to see less. The highlight of our visit was the people. The volunteers in the jaguar and rhino areas were incredibly knowledgeable and made those exhibits so much more interesting, and a staff member from a bird enclosure remembered us when we ran into them later in the day at the stingray exhibit. Once again, an AMAZING price! While there, I actually saw different invertebrates that I've never seen before for sale. Also, a staff member spoke to me and gave me some solid advice on the hobby. The staff member actually spoke to me for about a good 20-25 minutes. They have coral frags for as cheap as $9.99 or 3 for 24.99 and up. Surprisingly they had some decent coral in the $9.99 area. Honestly, if this "LFS" was closer, I would probably go back before the end of next week...
