Their actions left me with $2,500 in nonrefundable flights and a rental car--and no place to stay. Zero accountability, zero response, zero professionalism. After many great experiences with Del Mar Vacations, I decided to give Nauset Rental a try for some new options. I found a home I loved at a fair price and booked it--but what followed was unacceptable: Nauset confirmed my booking, then emailed to say the price was incorrect. They increased the total by an additional 150%, from $5,000 to $12,000, claiming the listing was still being tested. I responded professionally and offered a compromise, saying I'd still be willing to pay more--just not the full new rate. They ignored my response and canceled my reservation without warning. I followed up again, and only then did they reply--but they still offered no apology or solution. Instead, they pointed me back to their site and suggested booking a different, even more expensive home. After that, they stopped responding completely. Because of their lack of communication and accountability, I was stuck with $2,500 in sunk costs from flights and a rental car I had already booked around the reservation. Meanwhile: Del Mar Vacations has always owned their mistakes. Once they gave me 25% off a current booking and 15% off a future one over a much smaller issue. In the end, I returned to Del Mar, found another great home, and spent $16,000 with a company that values my business. --- Bottom line: Nauset Rental failed to take responsibility, ignored me after canceling, and left me holding thousands in costs. If this is how they handle their own mistakes, I'd hate to see how they treat customers once you're already in the home. Never again. read more

Wish we had seen these reviews prior to renting from them. We encountered numerous problems at our rental with broken light fixtures and appliances, including the clothes washer/dryer. It was clear that Nauset Realty failed to inspect and make repairs as necessary prior to our stay, which was at the end of August. We were not informed of the broken appliances or told not to use them--and wasted a lot of time trying to get things to work, communicating with the rental office, and dealing with repair technicians. Immediately upon arrival, we had to deal with water pouring out of the ceiling in one of the bedrooms, later, water leaked out of the back of the broken clothes washer, spilling all over the floor. When it was supposedly fixed, we tried to use it, and it would not drain. Another technician came and drained it. We wasted more time supervising him. Nauset said we could talk about a partial reimbursement once we left the home in good condition. However, upon our departure, they failed to follow up and when we did, they pointed to the contract and said they had no responsibility to reimburse us for anything. This level of inconvenience and number of issues is way beyond what we have had to deal with in any home we have rented in the past 10+ years on the Cape, and the poor customer service and outright gaslighting and rudeness from Nauset was astonishing. Apparently it also is not unusual for them, based on their reviews. Stay far, far away. EDIT: Also pretty sure they are in violation of the federal law prohibiting non-disparagement clauses in contracts (The Consumer Review Fairness Act (CRFA)- which makes it illegal to bar/restrict the ability of a person who is a party to a contract to review a company's products, services, or conduct--let's hope they start treating their customers better. read more

I stayed at a Nauset Rental property in June 2025 and the experience was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. We have been vacationing on the Cape for many many years, and this is the worst experience ever. We lost power twice during our one-week stay -- each time for many hours. The first outage happened the night we arrived, so we had to check into a dark, powerless house well into the evening. The second outage later in the week only made things worse. No accommodations or support were offered for these major inconveniences. We were told via text message that we would be reimbursed for the flashlights and batteries we purchased which totaled $50. We checked out at the end of our stay and I asked Sky who was at the house about the reimbursement process. She said that it'll be taken care of. On our way home, I received a call from the Nauset Rental asking where the flashlights and batteries were. We had packed them because we were not instructed to leave them behind. They said it was understood. After some back and forth, they still denied the reimbursement despite agreeing to before. The amount of the flashlights and batteries was not much but it's the principle that they did nothing to make our stay enjoyable. Further, the condition of the home was also not as pictured in the listing. Everything inside was outdated and worn, not at all the clean and modern space we were led to expect. The backyard furniture was rusty and clearly neglected - weeds and dead grass everywhere, and the area was full of bugs. Overall, this was a highly disappointing experience. Between the misleading listing, repeated power outages, poor property maintenance, and broken promises about reimbursement, DO NOT rent from Nauset Rental. Avoid at all costs! read more

Stay away! We have been renting on the Cape for over 20 years, and this is the worst rental experience/company we have encountered. We wish we had seen some of these negative reviews beforehand. They are completely unresponsive if you have problems, but up to the rental period seem to respond just fine. Our house was grossly overpriced and had so many problems: No A/C in the main living areas and loud a/c. units in the windows of bedrooms that were not shown in any pictures of the house. It was missing almost half of the window screens so bugs came in when we tried to cool down the house, there was food in the sink and personal papers left over from the last rental, had peeling paint in the master shower, and the garage door was malfunctioning. We asked several times to have a manager call us, but never heard back from anyone to follow up. Even when we filled out their own review form listing problems, they never apologized or reached out. Shame on us for not doing more homework on this company. When I asked for a refund of some money, they responded once and said this could only be negotiated after the rental was over and they had inspected the house. Of course I never heard back from them and doubt they have ever inspected our rental. read more

We requested a refund for our 2020 summer rental after MA instituted Covid related travel restrictions and a 14-day quarantine requirement. Nauset Rental's response - we're a small Cape business and we're struggling too! After exchanging some half-dozen emails which went around in circles, it felt as if Nauset Rentals was giving me the rope-a-dope treatment. I've been requesting a refund for almost a year (including my proposal to accept a 50% refund), here's where it stands: (i) ZERO refund, (ii) multiple promises that "they're working on a solution", and (iii) a total disregard for our concerns and the unprecedented circumstances of 2020. I find it surprising that despite cancelling our trip because of COVID risks, they've kept all the money we paid, including the Rent, the Service Fee, the Damage Waiver, and the Sales Tax. I wonder who ended up with my money.... did Nauset Rental keep it...did they share it with the homeowner? No explanation has been provided. Compared to the customer-centric approach taken by AirBNB, VRBO, and others, Nauset Rental's policy appears to be unfavorable to the renter. For a 2021 rental, we worked with reputable agents and found plenty of inventory on AirBNB including generous refund policies - most have 100% refunds up until a couple days before arrival. I would never rent through Nauset Rentals again. read more

Review of Nauset Rental 210 Main St. East Orleans, Ma. Re: 13 Nauset Rd. House Rental in East Orleans, Ma. Nov. 26, 2016 My family has been renting a house on the Cape for a week every year for the past 23 years, and during that time have rented 10 different houses. We typically rent in Dennis, but we changed to a different week when everything was booked. We looked around extensively and found a house on 13 Nauset in East Orleans. The setting and location of the house are extremely desirable. It is private, there's good parking, quick and easy beach access, and the ocean view from the deck is stunning. However..... Upon arrival, it quickly became clear that the house had not been cleaned. In fact, parts of the house were filthy. For example, the downstairs shower had black mold between the tiles. The shower curtain had extensive mold along the bottom as well. The shower rug was filthy. Throughout the house, there was a layer of dust covering everything. The outdoor plastic chairs had to be scrubbed extensively with bleach solution to get the mold off. The refrigerator was dirty both inside and out. The stove had old crumbs in it, and had clearly not been cleaned before we moved in. There were mouse droppings in the large bedroom when we moved in, and later in the week saw a mouse scurrying across the floor. On Wednesday, the dishwasher leaked heavily when we ran a load of dishes. We tried calling the repairman listed in the house 'guest' book, but he had moved to another town. We called the realtor and he told us to 'leave the dishes for the week.' That was not a solution, so he brought over a dish drain for us to use. We washed the dishes (for 7 people + guests) by hand for the remaining days- not how we planned to spend our precious family reunion week at the Cape! When we contacted the realtor at the end of the week, asking to be compensated for deep cleaning the house and leaving it in the state that we expected it to be in when we arrived, he said that we should have told him that the house was dirty when we moved in. Yikes! At $5,000 a week shouldn't that be assumed?? Isn't that his job to check and make sure that it is ready for move in?? We had just driven several hours in heavy traffic, and our 91-year-old mother needed to get settled as soon as possible. Also, we thought initially that there were just few areas needing attention; however, as the week went on, we found more and more areas that needed serious cleaning, so we set to work making the house livable. Over the 23 years that we have rented homes on the cape, we have always had clean and tidy houses with everything in good working order. That should be a given when you are paying $5,500. for the week (which is substantially more than we typically pay). We definitely felt gypped with this house and the unprofessional way that the situation was handled by Nauset Realty. A huge disappointment. read more
