I last visited this coffee shop several years ago. It had opened only recently and was the only thing open on a New Years morning. It was a cold year and just being able to have a hot cup of coffee in my hand made all the difference. Several years later, I find myself here again. The place is much bigger now, with a covered seating area and a larger menu. One thing is the same, the staff here are just as friendly as the first time I visited. Super nice place! read more

I was walking the harbor with my friends and got a sudden hankering for hot chocolate. My friend reminded me of this little gem that I walk by often, but have never stopped by. When I ordered a hot chocolate the barista asked me if I wanted chocolate whipped cream or just regular... um.. hold the phone, chocolate?! I asked what her favorite was because I had never been there before and she enthusiastically let me know the chocolate whipped cream was the way to go.. uh SOLD!! She was absolutely correct. Just stumbled onto this little gem! Came Tuesday around noon and the cashier/barista was so attentive and nice! She offered me a free sample of their coconut cream cold brew which was very nice given the social climate with the pandemic and helped pair it with the best milk option (coconut of course). Not good! AT ALL!!! Staff is very nice and the shop itself is quaint. The coffee however, SUCKS! It's overpriced and does not taste good! Like not even a little bit! Also, if you're hungry, just get a bagel or muffin from here. Better yet, walk a few more yards to the Stratford. Delicious food that is fresh!!! We tried the $7 bacon wrap at the Nautical Bean. HUGE MISTAKE! $14 for what looked and tasted like a microwaved gas station burrito. In the trash they went! Waste of $$$! DISGUSTING! Busy line which must mean it's good & they did not disappoint! It went by quick and the baristas (a man & lady) we're very kind & helpful. I ordered a dirty chai & my man ordered a coconut cons brew & they were so delicious without being too rich or sugary. It has a nice peaceful sitting area on the harbor docks too. This place has very little going for it at this point except for location and view. The coffee is sub-par. I am a huge fan of independent, non-mermaid coffee shops, but this place does not fit the bill. And the fact that they only give you ONE shot in a latte that they charge $4.50 for is UNACCEPTABLE. Most indie coffee shops give you 3 shots in your 4-5 buck latte. Latte was served burning hot, which is also uncharacteristic of experienced baristas. Food.. I ordered a breakfast bagel.... It came out BURNT on the top. it also did not have any cream cheese inside of it, just egg, cheese, and bacon, very DRY. I was incredibly unimpressed. Maybe it was an off day, but the service to our group of cyclists was sub-par, and the quality of food and price were just not there. read more

Wow! We just popped in to this quaint little place right on the water in Oceanside Harbor for a bit of kombucha. While sipping our brew in a little patio with a beautiful view of the harbor, the owner, John, walked by and we began a conversation about the kombucha, kefir, and cold brew on tap set up that they're putting in #winning! Terrible attitude for an owner! After reading other reviews it seems he has issues with people in general. I stopped in while on a long walk with my 4 small dogs to get them a bottle of water. I saw the sign that said no pets in a specific area and kept my dogs out. The staff was friendly and even gave me dog treats. Then this rude jerk comes up and yells at me to get my dogs out, he didn't want to give me time to grab my drinks. He then proceeded to yell at the staff that they should have just thrown me out and not served me. WOW! My dogs never went inside his shop. He needs to find a job with no customer contact. read more

I just ordered a plain ICED coffee. As I turned to "Dr. up my Joe" this intense BEAM OF LIGHT was focused directly on the creamer. It was that moment we've all experienced. Where you see a situation you know will be BAD EATS, FOOD SICKNESS, OR JUST PURE UNPLEASANTNESS. You have to decide fight (EAT) or FLIGHT (check please). Maybe it was the morning heat or the smell of "fish in the air" but I began to FEAR putting that sour SUN BEAM CREAM in this overpriced ICED coffee. To play it safe, I opened the lid and took an OLD FASHIONED whiff test. The cream failed - warm sourness filled my head. I brought over the warm container of FAIL CREAM and asked for cold cream...the coffee lady dropped the attitude passive aggressive styli "We just filled it." I told her OK, why don't YOU smell it - I may have had internal dialogue omitted here too. With an epic eye-roll she LURCHED over to the fridge and reluctantly poured fresh cream in my iced coffee to go. This is *right* on Oceanside Harbor--the setting is perfect. Also, damn solid coffee. I had an iced mocha and got my brother a drip coffee. We both thoroughly enjoyed each drink. The staff was friendly and efficient. They have some very intriguing food on the menu that I didn't get a chance to try, but it looked good and the descriptions definitely made me want to check them out. I gave it one more try...same result! So the bitter old woman is the owner. She works every other Sunday there. There was a long line so I was excited to talk with the other locals. I get to the front and that owner comes across as just not enjoying herself or her job. I ordered several food items and then asked for a caramel macchiato. She says, "we're not starbucks. We don't make that." I knew I wasn't going to get far with her so I asked the extremely kind young man working with her to make it. He did with no problem and it tasted great. The bitter owner continued to say that they are better than Starbucks and they don't make that drink. Well, I can just as easily take my business elsewhere and I will from now on. The drink I ordered is the number 1 seller at Starbucks. You, as a business owner, need to stay on top of the trend or just leave. It's obvious you're old and bitter. My family has a condo in the area so I've been going here since I was a kid--which has been great--but something always seemed lacking. Thas is, until Nautical Bean showed up -- offering (exceptionally) high quality coffee, lattes, blended drinks, and pastries. For drip coffee you get to choose from one of usually 5 or 6 different brews--usually Sumatra, Central American blends, kona, flavored, etc. You can purchase high quality beans by the pound--exceptional varities such as Jamacian Blue Mountain. smidge The fine quality and waterfront location commands a higher price tag--expect to pay about $1.50 for an 8 ounce (thats right, 8 ounce) cup--but what could be better than going for a morning stroll among the boats, grabbing a steaming delicious cup o' joe, and heading to the beach to watch the waves? You are paying Starbucks prices with coffee, but it's understandable for what you are getting. Carmalization, I know it's a word?, I just have never used it until now, my entire meals from now on should be caramelized and due completely to a semi orgasmic entree called honey chicken Dijon. Chicken, Dijon sauce, caramelized veggies, melted mozz on french bread, there isn't really anything else you could add to this sandwich besides crack to make it more addicting. It's not that I'm going back, it's how often I will be going back to eat the same exact thing over over and flip me over. Top this off with a naughty bean coffee and who needs porn. I woke up this morning in the midst of a great beach vacation and remarked to my friend that it was time to try and find a place for coffee and a decent breakfast sandwich. We walked across the harbor and ended up here not by choice, but necessity since there seemed to be nothing else. 6.95 stunned me for a bacon and egg on English muffin sandwich so I decided to forgo the caffeine beast within. I stood at the counter and waited.. And waited. A guy in the back definitely made eye contact with me but said nothing. Finally, someone unenthusiastically popped out to take my order. Sandwich rolls out. It's okay from the first bite, but about halfway through I discovered that there was a putridly thick dollop of mayonnaise. This totally put me off my meal but the only worker I had seen had disappeared from sight so there was nobody to hear my complaint. I have never in my life seen mayo on a bacon/egg sandwich. Let alone a huge glomp of it right in the middle rather than spread around. I tossed the remains of an overpriced sandwich and grumbled all the way back to my hotel, where the beach helped to soothe my sorrows from a poor breakfast. Look elsewhere, tourists. read more

Coffee is okay. I have one MAJOR business pet peeve, and that is not being open when your yelp says you'll be open. When you say you're open until 8, I expect you will be open... until 8. I got the grilled cheese with Turkey and tomato and onions and it was delicious it was on ciabatta bread and it was great fantastic. The gal working was really helpful and made sure that we had everything we needed. I would bring a drink since their drink selection is a little limited and pricey. Great experience at this little coffee during a quick getaway last weekend. We found it as we were walking by. Even though we had already had coffee with our breakfast at Beach Break the smell drove us in for another round. My double cappuccino looked and tasted great. My wife also loved her iced Carmel latte. We are big fans of Peets Coffee but have to say if we had this shop in our area we would make the change. I honestly can't understand some of these other reviews. One person dings them for the parking. It's Oceanside and the parking sucks period. That's why you walk. The coffee shop has no control over that. The other is a lady that read the sign about no dogs but decides it doesn't apply to her....hello! Love love this place so much. We come out every couple months and refill our growlers with their cold brew. We were here yesterday refilling before heading back to Vegas and the owner was in back he was so nice to us! He gave us a couple free coffee mugs and talked with us for a few minutes. The eating environment right on the harbor is peaceful enough. I grabbed my delicious food from the friendly servers and took it to the beach, which is less than a block away. The coffee was great, and the regular sausage breakfast sandwich with pepperjack cheese hit the spot to make me a happy beach reader.
