Communal Coffee is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Oceanside, and one of the biggest reasons is how easy they make takeout. It's the perfect option for busy mornings. That said, dining in is worth it too. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and just a great place to slow down and enjoy your meal. They also have a charming little gift shop with flowers and thoughtfully curated items that make the space feel even more special. With both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a dog-friendly patio, it's an easy place to meet friends or enjoy a quiet morning. Parking can be a little hit or miss, but in my experience, it usually hits. Whether you're grabbing breakfast to go or staying to soak up the vibes, Communal Coffee is always a solid choice. I love Communal, especially the one in Oceanside, but no matter which location I order from, the coffee is always exceptional. It's a great spot to meet up with friends or bring my mom when she arrives at the Oside train station from Grover Beach. It's a wonderful place to grab a flavored latte, seasonal drink, a glass of wine and a lunch bite, or all of the above! I also look forward to wandering through their gift area every time, where they stock unique jewelry, candles, fragrance rollerballs and 'clean' nail polish, plants and pots, kids' merchandise, t-shirts, and other cute stuff. I always buy something extra (and special) when I come. Their coffee bar is open, as is the general space, and there is plenty of seating outside in front and in back. You can watch the baristas make your drink and peep the beautiful Italian espresso machine and lovely bouquet of dried flowers by the bar while doing so. They bring their food out to you and when your espresso drink is ready they set it on the bar for you to pick up. Definitely a place to hang vs. grabbing a quick drink and rushing off about your day. I always want to stay and catch up with friends or bring my laptop to do some work, and they never make me feel rushed. Truly one of my favorite coffee shops in North County and in SD in general. (There is another high quality coffee shop in Oceanside that has incredible coffee and pastries--I won't mention the name--but I sometimes sense an attitude from the staff there, and that is a bit of a turnoff.) Such a cute coffee shop with great options. The front area has so many little gifts and next door is a flower shop, so you can grab a sip and do some shopping! Would be a great place to stop on your way to a birthday party to pick up a gift. I got the gluten free bagel with cream cheese and an oat milk chai latte, both were fantastic! Dare I say my favorite chai latte I've had in Oceanside so far!? The people behind the counter and who run the food were really nice and helpful. Overall, it's a little pricey as I paid around $17 for bagel and chai but both tasted worth it and I'll for sure be back to order the same thing again! read more

As for the service, it is the one aspect that needs some loving if you will..... To that NOT so friendly employee who brought us our food, please use your brain and bring utensils to your guests. That is a common sense right?!! I guess not for her. To make things worse, after going to the front and asking for utensils, they handed me cheap plastic ones. No complaints about this spot besides maybe it's only street parking. Ample seating, delicious food and drink, and a little shop you can browse while waiting in line. The sandwich was great, and I was iffy before ordering just because I don't like English muffin too much but the toast on it made it good. I had a hot london fog but would love to try the coffee next time. Seems pretty dog friendly, or that's just the Oceanside public acting like the Oceanside public haha. read more

Communal Coffee is my go-to Saturday morning pick-me-up. The lavender honey latte is my favorite. The space itself is super cute and has such a welcoming vibe. One of my favorite parts is that they even have a florist inside making fresh bouquets, which adds such a nice touch. There's also a small shop area where you can browse things like candles, books, clothes, jewelry, and even bottles of wine. The staff are always friendly, and there's plenty of seating if you want to hang out for a bit. They have WiFi, so it's a great spot to get some work done, and there's also outdoor seating for those sunny SoCal days. The moment I walked in, there was a line of adorable puppies waiting alongside their owners, so I got to enjoy a healthy dose of cute pups! I absolutely loved how pet-friendly the place was. They also had a super charming grab-and-go section with goodies and gifts. I ended up picking up a couple of cowboy shot glasses and some chocolates to gift. The strawberry matcha latte was delicious and definitely worth trying. The wait wasn't long at all, and there were plenty of seating options to choose from. The vibe is great for working. The service is quick and the staff is polite. However I'm very disappointed with the quality of the matcha latte. The addition of $1 for almond milk is ridiculous for a $7 diluted matcha. Clearly it's cheap matcha powder. The hours are great, the space is clean and inviting, and the matcha was okay. One thing I found a little odd: they bring your food to the table, but not your drink. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed. I came here twice in a row because I couldn't stop thinking about the lemon basil burrata toast. The first time was incredible which loaded with toppings and full of flavor. The second time looked noticeably lighter on the burrata and basil. Maybe it was an off day, because I know how good it can be. Overall, I'd still come back. The matcha was good enough, the toast was good enough to bring me back immediately, and despite the slightly curated "everyone here is working on a startup" vibe, the food was worth the visit. read more

Wow! I have been to the other locations in north and South Park and this location in Oceanside is immensely better. The size is larger with high ceilings and amazing lighting. There are several tables with outlets available to charge your devices. Lots of street parking nearby and ordering is really fast. I thoroughly enjoyed the vanilla cronut (the frosting had real vanilla bean!) and the salted caramel latte had a balanced flavor of espresso and caramel. My new favorite in north county! read more

We were headed to Legoland, but first, I wanted to make a stop at Communal Coffee for coffee and breakfast. We were lucky to find a parking on the street right in front of the coffee place. It was also really early, like 7:30 am, so that helped. I read that parking can be a problem. Their Iced Golden Coast was really good. You can't go wrong with espresso, honey, and whole milk. I love trying signature drinks at coffee places I've never tried before. They're usually pretty good and popular for a reason. It was such a cute coffee shop. However, their food was just okay. It was pricey and mediocre - nothing special. We got their Avocado Toast, Turkey Pesto Sandwich, and Maple Sausage Breakfast Sandwich. They don't even toast the bread on the avocado toast. On the plus side, their Chocolate Chip cookie made up for it. It was thick and decadent. My picture definitely doesn't do it justice. Without a doubt, one of the better chocolate chip cookies I've eaten at a coffee shop. If I'm ever in the area again, I would come again and get another Golden Coast (or try a different coffee drink) and cookie. read more

I am typically not a huge coffee drinker {I'm more of a tea gal, but I've slowly been dipping my toes in the coffee game - Give me all your go-to coffee recs}, but as soon as I stepped foot in Communal Coffee, I knew it was my kind of place. While this review is for the Oceanside location, there are also location in Downtown San Diego, Bankers Hill, and both North and South Park. Upon arrival, you will need to find street parking as there is not a designated lot for this space; this can be a bit tricky at times, but hang in there because it's worth it. Communal Coffee is a coffee and shop focusing on inspiring and bring for the local community - Their tagline: Fostering inspiration, cultivating community. The coffee space / restaurant / shop is a beautiful space that not only serves delicious coffee drinks, but serves a selection of wine & beer, has a wonderful food menu, as well as a shop where you can purchase local, hand-crafted goods and stunning bouquets of fresh flowers. It's honestly and location with all of my favorite things under one roof. The space itself isn't large and depending on the day / time you visit, finding a seat can be a bit of a hassle as a lot of people use this as a work space and come set up shop with their laptops and occupy the space for extended periods of time. Thankfully, each time I've visited and been able to find spot either at a table or a stool at the bar.. some with a short wait time while waiting for something to open up. Just be advised if planning on attending as a group as you might find seating a bit more challenging. The team is wonderful and always engages in conversation while greeting you, taking your order and attending to your needs while you're there. I love that each team member seems to enjoy being there and makes it feel like it isn't "work" to them. To me, this shows that the management team / team leaders have created a happy work environment, which is clearly the sign that they are doing something right here. Ok, onto the good stuff.. the menu! Drink wise, you'll find Coffee's, Matcha, Tea's, Wine, Craft Beer & who doesn't love an Espresso Martini?! Visiting while you need a little pick me up.. the Chai Latte is always a great choice, but the Salted Caramel Latte is where it's at - Rich, creamy and just the right touch of sweetness! Here for a bite.. Fresh Pastries are always available {they are located by the register and change up regularly}, Toasts, Breakfast Sammies / Burrito's, Bowls, Granola, Bagels & More.. The menu has everything you could ask for. My husband enjoys the Salted Maple Sausage Sammie - Pork Sausage, Baked Eggs, White Cheddar and a House-made Maple Butter on an English Muffin {with vegan substitutions available if need be}. The granola bowl looked great my partner really liked it and she liked the Cortado so that was solid. My order didn't work out to well. The burrito was pretty bland, and I was given a lavender honey latte instead of matcha so I had to get my drink re-made. It was ok not the best matcha I've had but it was good. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, it's a quiet neighborhood so its nice to sit outside and enjoy the day. If I were to come back I'd definitely get the granola bowl over the breakfast burrito. Maybe try a different drink as well. read more

The cold brew wasn't as strong as others I've had in the past but it is definitely flavorful 2 drinks and 1 bagel for $22 is a bit up there but it is what it is for the "vibe" Gluten free bagel and cream cheese definitely tasted very yummy. Place was on the cleaner side but I went pretty early in the morning and the bathroom felt grimy. Not messy but just dirty which I don't love. Great coffee shop! Really tasty vanilla latte (I tried it both iced and hot, hot was technically better but it was barely a competition) and the gals behind the counter provide friendly service. I love the design of the space, lots of natural light and plants, not too cramped and lots of seating and tables inside and outside to sit and do whatever. They played REALLY good music while I was there (The Smiths, Arctic Monkeys, TV Girl, the strokes, queen) which was unexpected and very fun. It's definitely a nice spot to do work, however it's not a library, so if you get distracted easily by noise I recommend bringing headphones as groups of all types were hanging out. It's a nice spot to sit with a friend or draw/read. Wifi is strong, bathrooms are tidy, but parking nearby is a little hard so be prepared to walk over unless you get lucky. And they have a cute gift shop with all kinds of temptations. I plan to come back to try their mimosas. Overall very great spot! read more

Came here for breakfast and ordered breakfast sandwiches. They have vegan sausage as a substitute, which is awesome! My hubby and I both got the Salted Maple Breakfast Sandwich. It comes with egg and cheese on an English muffin. I went with the vegan sausage, and he got the regular pork sausage. For drinks, I had an Iced Ube Matcha Oat Latte, and my husband got a regular black coffee. Service was great, and we had such a relaxing morning on the patio at Communal Coffee with our dog. Not a welcoming vibe. I ordered avocado toast to go. They have plastic forks and no knives. I requested a receipt and was unable to get one after two requests. I was asked if I wanted any sweeteners in my coffee. I said, yes simple sugar and they said oh you can do that yourself. The cherry avocado toast was bland to say the least. I can see what looks like balsamic drizzle. I cannot taste any of it. The whole experience was crap. read more

I happen to be at the Tremont Collective for the Makers Arcade North County Holiday Pop-Up and decided to have brunch before I got into my shopping mode. I was in the mood for some cozy coffee and fresh fruit. The Communal Coffee was the perfect trendy place to address my sunrising needs. Anyplace that fosters community is where I want to be. I loved the bright welcoming and comforting atmosphere with a touch of flower arrangements and plants all around. About the menu, it's extensive filled with great options. I've been here twice. Once a year ago and this past Thursday. The first time I was there, I ordered a Lavender Honey Latte with avocado toast and my husband had a Batch Brew House coffee w/breakfast sandwich. We sat at the counter. The order came in good time. The drinks and food were good. We did find the food pricey for the size. There were people catching up or working. Seems like a good cafe to work remotely. This last time, I had a meeting. I had a lavender honey latte (lightly sweetened) with a plant based frittata sandwich. All was tasty. The sandwich is rather small for the price. Overall, my experience here was good. The coffee here is so delicious! I ordered an iced Mocha and my wife got an iced banana caramel latte. The banana caramel latte was fenomenal! I would definitely order that drink again. The Mocha wasn't sweet enough for me, so I added some brown sugar and that did the trick. The place inside is so cute aesthetically. It was very busy on Memorial Day, with everyone working on laptops or having meetups. The entire place is wheelchair accessible, including the seating and restrooms.
