halibut with corn, basil, tomatoes, beans, potatoes, and aioli

Treat yourself to a little trip to the village of Stockton Springs and this new restaurant that is a treasure. Charlie and Kirk create a beautiful experience that is unique every week in their lovingly attended house. We had our own private room, which will soon become the bar. Every room is a gorgeous eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary art. Amy our server was joyful and attentive. Every minute of our time was celebratory, which was perfect for my birthday. The presentation of every course was exquisite, with flowers and gatherings from the garden outside. See my photos. HEMINGWAY DAIQUIRI Served in a vintage champagne glass. Plantation rum, grapefruit, luxatdo, lime, simple. Light and delicious. $12. CHICKEN LIVER PATÉ Pickles, whole grain mustard, large pieces of toast, fig jam. Just so flavorful and perfect. $16 HALIBUT With sweet corn, basil, tomatoes, string beans, potatoes, N'Duja Aioli. This dish was superb to look at, and I wanted a little more flavor. The halibut was slightly overdone, sadly. $32 TAGLIATELLE with Summer Ratatouille, Basil Pesto, and Goat Cheese. This dish was very tasty, with a lovely sauce. $26 COCONUT CREAM PIE The absolute best and biggest piece, with loads of toasted coconut adorning the pie and plate. $10 BLUEBERRY AND GOAT CHEESE TART I adored this with Maine's tiny wild blueberries. $10 TAWNY PORT Such a lovely ending at $8 I will devise ways to come here at least once a quarter. Kirk and Charlie are in this with a passion and clearly care about the community. Please enjoy this experience!

As my wife and I prepared for our move from Maine to our next adventure in life we thought about where we would like to go for our last restaurant experience. That process was fairly quick as we knew the only place for us to go was The HICHBORN. So we made a reservation (highly recommended) and went to enjoy our last great meal in Maine. Without getting into a lot of details suffice it to say our dinner was extraordinarily good as has been the case on our other visits. The food is simply outstanding. What I would like to comment mostly on though is the restaurant itself and the owners, Kirk and Charlie. They welcome you into the restaurant and make you feel as if you are the only diners there. The attention to detail and the overall ambiance of the restaurant truly stands above all the others. I want to thank them both for providing a meal and true hospitality that we will remember long after we have moved from Maine. So if you're just vacationing in Maine or a resident make sure you put The HICHBORN on your list of places to experience. Thank you again Kirk and Charlie

Not sure where to begin with this place. My boyfriend and I have never experienced a place like this before. We were vacationing nearby and heard about this place. We decided to try it out. First, love the place, so cozy and warm inside, felt like someone's home. The staff were phenomenal, can't say enough nice things about everyone we spoke to. The food was something neither my bf and I were expecting, it was beyond expectations. The courses came out at a good pace, staff explained what was on the plate, served hot and beautifully plated. This is an expensive experience but I am telling you, it is 100% worth it and hope to visit again.

Yes. Me taking a little nap before dessert

Another well deserved 5-star review. Our last meal during our vacation to Maine. Why 5-stars? -gracious and genuine hospitality. -incredible decor. It's like I walked into a magazine spread. I wanted everything including the colors on the walls! -A bathtub in the bathroom with flowers-whimsical and it made me smile -a Duncan Phyfe couch in our dining room. And yes I took a little lay-down before dessert. -generous portions and flavors to remember. Even with a limited menu you can find something to eat here. I'm a vegetarian and I enjoyed the pasta with goat cheese. -owners came out to greet us. My fiancé and my best friend's fiancé are restaurant owners and chefs and it was really cool to see them all talking and interacting. Such incredible owners. -they're going to convert one of the rooms into a bar in the near future. Yay! -the signature margarita with pickled blueberries. No need to go to Mexico. The best is right here. We're supposed to get married next year. Haven't found the right venueThinking about this one for a destination!

We were standing near the bar, and one of the bartenders invited us to sit and moved chairs around for us. Service was excellent and very friendly. We had the roasted tomato burrata sandwich and flatbread. Each were great. This is such a cool place, there is a vinyl store within the restaurant, but it was closed when we there. There also was an area they sell guitars, all so random, but fit so well together. A very cool, comfy place to enjoy drinks, food and music.

The historic building has a tin roof and a wooden bar that eeks history. Our waitress was so welcoming and made us feel right at home. I enjoyed the roasted tomato burrata baguette sandwich and it was toasted and tasty. Several of my dining partners also had the same sandwich. Another had the Warm Roasted Root Vegetable Salad that she said was wonderful. We finished the meal with generous portions of carrot cake topped with delicious cream cheese frosting. There is a store inside the Black Moon (that happened to be closed on a Saturday night). In the corner they sell vinyl records and CDs and there is also a selection of guitars. There was also a musician playing live music near the front of the pub that really added to the atmosphere. It was a truly great find right on Main Street in Ellsworth.

Prices are a little high here, but you're paying a premium for the location, view and atmosphere.

The toast was our favorite dish all week, with the mushrooms being perfectly cooked and the chèvre bringing a creaminess and slight funk to the dish. It was all delicious, and flavors were well-balanced, meaning acids and fats were paired well together. Food presentation was exceptional. Service was incredible, in that our waiter answered all of our questions and food came quickly. Additionally, my wife and I showed up at 5:30 and were promptly seated. I think being offset from the main intersection some helps with crowds. Ambiance was top tier with the water feature and greenery.
