Ended up stopping here with family after getting gas. First thing I noticed was that there was no gate restriction so my GPS sent me right in! Overall, this NEX has got to be one of the better ones. It has pretty much all the standard NEX goods, but what sets it apart is the selection of Hawaiian foods, clothing, souvenirs, and even local beers. The prices are very reasonable and for the most part, items are well-stocked. I even found a bag of Ubae's crinkle cookies! Yeah, the lines can get long, but you'll run into that at every NEX. I absolutely love shopping here, especially school shopping. They have a lot of nice brand name clothing for such a good price for both kids and adults. They have some NFL jerseys and surf brands like Quicksilver that I always pick up for my son. When I used to be into Hello Kitty, I would come here. They have a full section dedicated to Sanrio items, mostly Hello Kitty items. Bring lots of reusable bags. 1st floor: High end makeup brands, Victoria Secret, Jewelry, ladies & junior clothes, men's clothing, shoes and slippers (flip flops), alcohol, and brand name purses. 2nd floor: Kids clothing, infant clothing and furniture, drugstore makeup and hair products and tools, bedding, electronics, Hello Kitty section, Hawaii souvenir products and Hawaiian Macadamia chocolate goodies, dog food, treats and toys and lots of gym items. read more

I'm so disappointed in my shopping experience at the Navy Exchange Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. From what I understand, this is the largest military exchange in the world. We stopped by here to find long needed supplies while visiting Honolulu. I must say the customer service is the worst. Almost every NEX employee we met was either rude or not interested in talking to us. Worst, was at the Yummy Korean BBQ where the cashier seemed to hate her job. Never smiled and got so rude when my wife asked for some condiments. Also, the Thai BBQ stand messed up my chicken satay order and gave me something completely different. I didn't find out until I got back to our hotel. I have never been to any military exchange where the employees acted like this and seemed to hate their job so much. read more

To add to the Pearl Harbor tourist attractions, many folks will eventually do some kind of shopping here. This is the first time I've shopped at a NEX (Navy Exchange) location, which is operated by the United States Navy. If one happens to be military personnel (active or retired), there is huge savings to be had. No military ID? No dice. It's like going to Costco but without a membership card. They also have an online portal for shopping and there is no tax with any of the purchases (where all the proceeds go to military families). This is a dream for anyone who is looking to save a little money in a place as expensive as Oahu. The parking lot is huge but the mall itself is actually quite small in comparison to the bigger mammoth sized shopping spots on the island. I'm usually here for the food court, which is not terribly impressive but has enough variety to keep folks busy food wise. There are some chains (Subway, McDonalds, Popeyes to name a few) but there is also gyros, ramen, and sushi to be had as well. I am sure I'll be back some day. The Navy Exchange at Pearl Harbor is pretty much my favorite exchange on Oahu. Convenience, having a Class VI store (liquor), proximity to the airport and a commissary, and the fact it is the largest NEX in the world doesn't hurt! Since I've moved back home the NEX, they have been my baseline to comparison shop several large purchases, accessories, and miscellaneous items. It's always a great time when I get one of the NEX scratch cards in the mail! Minimum of 5% discount, up to 25% (although I've never seen one of them), combined with a tax free purchase equates to a good deal! Military members can also bring in guests. Love this place when I am on the island! It's one of my fav Navy Exchanges - they have it all from clothes, to Hawaiian souvenirs to household items and more. Some workers are super nice while others are just plain mean....funny story, they were offering an additional 50% off clearance racks....we grabbed two tshirts with Navy graphic print because they were a whopping $5 on sale.....the cashier seemed to be so annoyed at the price as though we were stupid or desperate enough to change the price (by the way, the register tells you what item it is when it's scanned)...:she literally went to check with the boss to see if it was a correct price.....which it was :-) despite this worker, I still enjoy this store....it has a lot to offer and is tax free. I couldn't figure out why this isn't a solid 4-5 stars and after reading some of the reviews realized that the one-stars are for specific instances where people had a crappy experience with an employee. I mean who in the military hasn't had a crappy customer service experience with an eternally disgruntled military spouse? I have no idea how continually deployed military members manage to keep their spouses at all and always cut the spouses some slack. It's not an easy life and I appreciate them, even when they're grouchy. OK, I totally get that they're in a customer service career and should provide better service, but maybe reviewers should split those and rate the little shop or whatever separately. Because this place is amazing. I grew up on Oahu and thought all Exchanges were like this one. I didn't have an ID card but could visit the food court and marveled at local artist Wyland's whale mural and the massive air conditioned food court with tons of selections. OMG large bright clean bathrooms!!! That happens almost never in other stores or malls! I couldn't imagine what marvels were inside for those with military IDs. Fast forward about a decade and I'm in the military. I learn that not all exchanges look like this one. In fact some people are lucky to have a tiny little store on their base with nothing but random basics. Fast forward another decade and I work at major bases like Andrews AFB - "Home of Air Force One" - and discover that base is nowhere near as clean and beautiful as Hickam or Pearl Harbor, and the commissary and exchange is nothing exciting. They even recently upgraded the food court and it's still nowhere near the level of cool or have half the food options available at this Navy Exchange. Inside you'll find not only all the other items expected in an exchange or commissary, but all the Hawaiiana you could possibly want. A ukulele to play on the beach? Plastic uke, check. One to play around with at home? Affordable uke, check. One more as you're getting serious and sounding pretty good? Super nice uke behind a glass case, check. Mac nut and coffee gifts to send to friends and family? Massive selection, check. Matching aloha wear for your next family photo? Tons of options, check. First off, you need to be military or DOD to be able to shop here, or a guest of one. This NEX has plenty of parking, though it's always busy, so expect to walk a little bit from your parking spot to the entrance. The NEX is located next door to the commissary. It is a two-story complex and is like a blend of Target & Macy's. Ground floor is mostly clothes, jewelry, accessories, etc. You can get to the second floor via the escalators/elevator near the center of the NEX, or through the mall area where you take the escalators/elevator to the 2nd floor food court area to the entrance. The second floor has the travel, sporting goods, kitchen, electronics, souvenirs and snacks, pet stuff, kids clothing I think, etc. One of the perks of shopping at the NEX is that you don't get charged the state sales tax on your purchases. Also, they price match. So, there could be lots of savings if you buy big dollar items. As a value-conscious shopper, there's nothing that would really keep me shopping here regularly. The prices are not necessarily cheaper than what you pay at other stores, I guess I could price-match to get them cheaper? I've never actually gone through that process, so I can't really say. Though, once in a while, through the weekly ads and/or Black Friday specials, sometimes there are some good deals. If you join the rewards program, you can get a $10 off coupon for your first purchase and also earn points for future coupons. I can't say I have had all good experiences while shopping here. Customer service is great! If you're looking for something, the staff are always willing to help. However, there were some issues that I would say caused "minus points". When I saw a luggage set and food chopper on sale, they charged me full price at checkout. You need to watch out for that. Make sure you do the math and have an idea of what your total is supposed to be so you can catch it right then and there, not after you've gone all the way home. My latest shopping experience included trying to use those price check scanner machines. You figure they're there so you can help yourself and not bother the staff. I followed the signs for the "Price Check", the first two I went to had missing machines, just cables sticking out of the pillar. When I found a third one with an actual machine, it wasn't for scanning, it was for employees to clock in or something. It was very misleading, imagine people walking around the entire second floor to these price scanner pillars only to find none of them work, waste of time and effort. I guess no good deed goes unpunished. Trying to be self-reliant here. There's a sign out front that says you get a 5 cent credit if you bring your own shopping bag. I never got the credits. There is a lot of inconsistency on these types of policies. I'm not going to bother bringing my shopping bag next time! The staff that work here all deserve a huge shoutout. They are all so patient and friendly. Retail is highly stressful. And when you have such volume of customers like the NEX, you need to give them credit for keeping their cool. So lastnight we were watching tv & just out of no where it blacks out & doesnt turn back on. I try calling every & its was about 6pm. The best place was here. So i had to call my mom to take me there. You of course have to have someone with a military id to purchase. PARKING: If you know this place the parking is huge BUT it does get busy during the day. The whole front side is handi cap. I love this because not much places have alot of stalls. SERVICE: Before we went i called & talked to someone in the tv department & he told me about the deals they have going fo 50inch & up. When we got there the guy name PITA was very helpful & funny on helping us chose a tv. I swear we walked the tv wall like how many times just looking & asking questions. We finally chose a tv before they closed & they had the tv in store. Usually have to pickup those kinds of things at the warehouse. Decided to do some Saturday Black Friday weekend shopping. Went to the Air Force exchange earlier, now we're over here at the Navy Exchange and of course the crowd is 10 times worse than the Air Force exchange. h However they have some pretty good stuff on sale here if you are looking for electronics, TVs tablets, and things like that at very very low prices. The sale runs through this weekend and there are other items on sale as well. Seemed like a reasonable and manageable crowd today and I have seen worse, as it seems that Since online shopping has become more popular, there are less people who are actually going to the store physically to buy things. But, this is the go to place for a lot of things that you may be looking for if you have military benefits. read more

One of the newest, largest, and well maintained exchanges I've been in, there's a large selection and great prices for the area. Not a lot of souvenirs if that's what you're looking for. The commissary is also right next door so you can get all your shopping done at one time. Check out both floors as well as the kiosks and small stores that are a part of the exchange complex. There are also food and product tents outside. Going to the exchange here can be an experience all on its own. There is a furniture annex, and an outdoor annex close by the main exchange. The ITT office is just around the corner if you want to find out about shows or attractions offering discounts to military members and their families. They'll make the reservations for you and give you the benefit of their experience in making recommendations. If you can't find what you want here, the Hickam exchange is close by. When you enter the exchange, look up. The murals of the whales and marine life are something to behold. The ray in the middle of the skylight is almost like being in the water and looking up tp see it cross overhead. Lots of parking. Look at the markings, there are lots of reserved parking spots for different ranks, positions, expectant mothers, etc. read more

Apparently there are instructions on some of the items in this store that you can only purchase at certain registers. I stood in line at 4 different registers to find that I've been wasting my time trying to purchase a portable charger I picked up in the electronics department. When I finally get to the right register, I am notified that the scratch card cannot be used at this register!!! Are we not in the exchange??? Oh and it gets better...the "other" items I wanted to purchase could NOT be purchased at this register! WTF?! I waited in line 4 times, to make just one convenient purchase at 1 time using a scratch card advertising promos for the NAVY EXCHANGE in which I could NOT use inside an EXCHANGE store register! Thinking to make up for the hassle I'd use my Military Star Card to earn points for $20 gift card...BUT OH DAMN!! If you're a DoD civilian like me, then you know how big it is to finally be able to shop here. We have our brothers and sisters abroad in uniform to thank for the liberties afforded to us, so MAHALO! I have to say that I had a great time walking around the store and seeing what I could find there that is different from say a wal-mart or a target. I found that there were a lot of popular brands I did not expect to find. As far as clothing and such, I saw brands like 5.11 and Oakley to name a couple. They had a great electronics section, enough to rival any best buy we have on the island. The prices are not much cheaper than the outside, but the selection is second to none. For those with spouses, on fridays they have bunches of flowers for $5. Make use of that DoD access and get down to the NEX and check it out! You will not be disappointed! read more

The NEX is a great place to shop if you have the credentials for it. They check for ID before you can go in. The retail side sells everything from clothes to electronics. Across from the retail side is the commissary. That's where they sell the groceries. They have great rates and don't charge tax. There's also a food court at the NEX on the second level. Anyone can eat there. They don't card and you don't need a military ID to purchase food. They have a McDonald's, Popeyes, Taco Bell, Yummy's, and a few other eateries. I find myself at the Popeyes most often. Sometimes, the line can be long but it moves fast. read more

We have been here several times since we moved to the Island a few weeks ago... while I do enjoying be able to shop without having to add tax in my head, their prices aren't really anything to get excited about unless you're there for a specific sale. NOW... with that said... they DO have some great sales on specific items and you can get some amazing deals on some fantastic brands as long as your have a valid military ID. A couple weeks ago, I got 2 pairs of Olu'Kai flip-flops for $68 because they were having 40% off all sandals and flip-flops... you can always watch your mailbox for the scratch-off coupon and the weekly add frequently has $$ off coupons on specific departments (this week was men, women, and children's clothing and shoes). There is always plenty of parking and the store is clean and well-kept. While it can be difficult to find someone to answer questions in certain departments, the I do manage to hunt someone down, they're always very kind and eager to help out. read more

There's much selection at this location compared to the others on the island that I've been to. It's depressing seeing how much cheaper the items are sold here versus the normal grocery store. Make sure if you're coming to this store, you've either got a military ID or tag along with someone who does. If not, you'll be sitting on the bench outside the doors lol. Not to mention, there is a food court to visit on the second level and kiosks that sell various items to browse. Cashier failed to follow my request to withdraw an item I did not want and now it is my problem and hassle to have to return a $30 item. 2. They dont have great deals that you think they have. Take advantage of many options for a better deal online, thanks to technology that makes a search easy. 3. Selection is limited -- if they dont have your size dont bother checking or waiting to find out that they just dont have it. FYI : I Posted a photo of a $6 excellent condition Nike Sports bra. Exact brand model and color found at NEX for $27.99. NEX active wear is full price as shopping at that brand store -- that is never a good deal. I consider myself blessed to be able to come here. I do my best to conform to the rules...Federal Firefighters just walked in. Uh oh! Nice, clean store with lots to look at. Restrooms inside the store are located on the ground floor near the shoes. Restrooms outside the store are located outside the food court (open to the public), right before McDonalds. Lots of parking, but mind the few stalls at the top of each row on either side, as they are deemed for officers. So if they are vacatn, there must be a reason. The stalls are marked at the top. Prices here are cheaper than retail, and their sales can be petty good. (Add'l 40% off red tag items ending in .96 or .97) Brand name goods. Hydro Flask display always has a crowd around it. What separates this Navy Exchange from others is the grand entrance. It's HOT & HUMID over here on da island, so as soon as you step into the main entrance, or rotunda I should say, you'll feel as if you've walked right into a cool, ocean breeze. The Wyland mural painted on the octagonal high ceiling and the large indoor fountain really set the tone. It makes you feel happy and impressed with the entire layout, as compared to other NEX locations. So, now that you've cooled down, you're ready to spend that hard earned pay!! The kiosks located in the center of the entrance are a good mix of regular and visiting vendors. The one I frequent the most is XPress Wireless because of their cute phone cases, charging cable accessories, and the point card available. Inside the NEX, 1F, you'll find the sunglasses shop, high end jewelry, the fancy cosmetics, purses, florist, package store for liquor, clothing for men, women, and children. Lastly, the SLIPPAH SECTION! I've never seen so many flip flops at an NEX in my entire life (yup, I'm a Navy brat too). Too cool. Nice selection for men and women. On 2F, that's where you'll find electronics, bed & bath decor, camping gear, drug store cosmetics, a framing center, and a great selection of Hawaiian souvenirs. Now, since Hawaii has banned the use of plastic bags, the NEX will pay you 5 cents for each reusable bag you bring to carry out your purchase. HUGE exchange complex. Much bigger than most other NEX locations and offers a wide selection of goods. Everything from toiletries to fine jewelry to scuba gear rental. Last time I was here I got tahitian pearl earrings that are gorgeous and I routinely get compliments on (and of course they were a great deal- less than what you can get at Costco, without tax) I'm always running out of time when I come here- never can get to see everything I'd like to. read more

I love the Navy Exchange simply because it's as cheap as Walmart AND its tax free! Location/Parking: They are located in Salt Lake/Pearl Harbor near Target and the Moanalua Shopping Center. The Pearl Harbor Commissary is right next to the Navy Exchange. There are tons of parking! Merchandise: They sell toiletries, electronics, clothes, make up, jewelry, alcohol, pet food and accessories, fitness equipment, household cleaners and etc. I usually buy electronics and toiletries from here. There are different sales weekly and if you sign up for the ad, you'll occasionally get a scratch coupon for a discount on your purchase. Return Policy: I have returned many items in the past and have not had any problems returning items. Strict Policy: Only military ID holders can purchase goods from the Navy Exchange. A military ID holder can sponsor up to 2 guest inside but your guest can NOT purchase anything. They will check IDs for all adults who enter the Navy Exchange and the cashiers will check for ID as well. Overall, I love shopping here and am so fortunate that I can shop here! We just moved here so naturally we have to go to the NEX. My mom used to tell me how amazing she heard it was. She's a NEX fan. I don't know why, she works for the NEX headquarters and she lives in Virginia Beach. So we came here and at first you're like "sweet mother of God it's huge!" (That's what she said). But inside it's probably the same size as any other NEX, just without the dramatic entrance and ceiling. So it's pretty. It's attached to the commissary so that's a bonus or not. Parking is a plenty except during the holidays. It's packed, especially during Black Friday. They don't check ID's, and they do price match. I've done it against amazon and sometimes amazon is actually better. But because we live on this island, some things sell out quickly. The food court lines are there. It's not bad. They have local food and staples like McDonald's with a Hawaiian flare. The boba tea is amazing at the stand inside. It's a NEX, you've seen one you've seen them all. But they do have cute Hawaiian souvenirs and you can use your scratcher on all of it. read more

I enjoy shopping at both the NEX and Hickam BX, but you need to be a smart shopper. Sometimes the same items are cheaper off base. That especially goes for the commissaries at both locations. This review is for a visit I made last Wednesday. I went looking for a couple bouquets of flowers to give my mother & my wife, it is a gift to them to show my appreciation for their support throughout my military career during my retirement ceremony. The person (self employed florist) I had scheduled to make them fell thru, hence the last minute order at the NEX. The staff was great and helpful in making my decision with the correct flower quantity/color/type of flowers. The lady was friendly and guaranteed the flowers will be ready in time for a next day pick up...and they were! The arrangement was wonderful and the special ladies in my life were presented with a beautiful set of flowers, which they loved! So, the flower shop is 5 stars. read more

I've been coming here for years and I gotta say, today was the first time I felt moved to write something. I so rarely write reviews, but this man deserves one. I just don't know if I can do him justice. I just want to say that John from Electronics deserves 5 pay raises and a big promotion if he isn't already a manager or running the place. He is very knowledgeable of products I asked about and doesn't half azz a thing. Like even down to explaining the most basic of things I knew but didn't have the heart to interrupt him on. Very professional, informative but not pushy and never condescending. I felt taken care of and my issue with my first purchase was explained to me. I pride myself in knowing a little bit of the components that go into building a pc, but I'm not confident to hold a conversation about it and go any deeper than that. I had some good people help me out and they were very kind which I appreciated, but John walked in and solved the problem in .02 seconds while also managing the floor superfluously. He took the time to help me and dumb down a lot of things I would've had to Google and reread a few times to understand When I arrived and when I left almost an hour later, if felt like he was everywhere all at once. I often wonder why Navy Exchange must carry all the most expensive brand name items. It is not like their patrons make large amounts of money. For many families shopping at Walmart is much more economical even with the tax advantage of the exchange. The other item is the strong push given to the STAR card. Credit for a young military family can be dangerous as they are just starting out. What became of the basic line that the Exchange was known for. Affordable items and good quality. The buyers are not looking at the real income of our military personnel. Brand names with high price tags are not what is needed. And Why is it less expensive to buy health and beauty items at the Commissary vice the Exchange? Please have some regard for the junior enlisted and their families.
