If possible avoid this place for the next few days. Packed to the max! They have two floors at this exchange, with the first floor loaded with jewelry and cosmetics along with a kids clothing section in the back. The second floor has the electronics section and the Adult Men's clothing. There is also another part of the Navy Exchange that sells basic toiletries, furniture and appliances located in a separate building. Like I said, there are lots of people splurging this holiday season at this place, especially in the electronics area. The biggest savings in prices comes in the electronics department, since it is tax free. Everything else is slightly cheaper than what you can find in civilian stores, except perhaps the appliances. LOVE the NEX! Prices are great and I've had great customer service here. One time I bought a 25lb bag of dog food that smelled funny and they took it back with no problems. I have the same recommendations for almost every exchange: Buy: I always, always buy my perfumes and cosmetics there. Anything that doesn't really go on sale in the civilian world you will make off like a bandit here. I also get shampoo, soap, drugs etc here. Pride gear! Anything really expensive like electronics you will save with not paying taxes. Alcohol prices are also decent. Don't buy: clothing, shoes, purses unless you have done your research ladies. The prices are good but not the best. If you have time you can almost always find better prices online. I have only bought one purse and one pair of shoes here. There are two buildings- the left one for household items, furniture, appliances etc. the right one for clothing, shoes, electronics. It's a lot bigger than the MCX in Miramar and I prefer this exchange over coronado NEX. Parking can be a little atrocious on the weekends but you live. read more

My favorite Navy Exchange! It can get crowded at times, but this is definitely the place to get your department store needs. Most items are priced well below their competitors and it certainly helps that the NEX is Tax Free. Also be aware that the NEX consists of 2 buildings, the main building and the home store about 100 yards away. read more

I think the NEX suffers from some identity issues or problems with its self-image. It never seems to be satisfied with the way it looks and it's like it always feels the need to change its appearance. First, somewhere in the mid-90s, I guess the NEX wasn't happy with its size, so it got an extension and added a whole new section in the back where downstairs they kept its shoes and women's clothing and upstairs they had children's clothes, some gym equipment, snacks, school supplies, bath/body products, and other stuff. Over the years, they have always made subtle changes to locations of different sections of merchandise. At this time, it also completely revamped it's food court. I don't completely remember, but I think they used to have a cafeteria style kind of dining room. They changed to the current food court where they have a Subway, a KFC/Pizza Hut/Taco Bell, a Rice King, and an Italian sandwich shop or something that no one eats at. They also have the Sun Coast Grill, which serves breakfast and is awesome. Recently, the NEX must have decided that it wanted to have a face lift at the expense of being super inconvenient to its customers. The NEX underwent mitosis and become one store split between two different buildings. Men's and women's clothes and shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, and electronics all stayed behind in the main building while everything else got moved next door to the building where the old commissary used to be. Now, if I'm at the main store buying socks and I decide I want to buy a pack of gum, I need to walk to a whole other building. Aside from that, the NEX is a great store and it has everything you might need for a good price and no tax all in one place. Or is that two places now? read more

Long story short, we purchased a washer, dryer, and refrigerator all to be delivered at the same time, approx one month later (as per their lead time). Items were delivered on schedule. That's where the good news ends. The appliances are all Kenmore, delivered by Sears, which you would think would be good, right? Well, when the dryer was installed, we asked if they leveled it, to which the answer was "we don't have a level" so we got one out. Suddenly the guys came to tall us the dryer was MISSING A LEG. SO....they were going to leave a brand new dryer with only 3 legs?? Of course, they sent us to call the Exchange to determine next steps. We should have sent it back right then but tried to be cooperative. They arranged for a repair person to come out two days later. Turns out the leg wasn't missing at all but apparently had been broken during delivery. Things happen, but if we hadn't really inspected it we would have been stuck with a broken (expensive) dryer. Now we are waiting ANOTHER month for a replacement. VERY disappointing. read more

I found the prices NOT to be cheaper than other department stores. In fact I thought they were kind of high. I feel they are taking advantage of our military service members and should do MORE to reduce prices and help out these families. The coupons and scratch off discount cards are a marketing plow and i find there are no real big saving to the customer. If there is a sale worth taking advantage of, you will be able to find that same deal elsewhere. Finally their customer service is horrible and the staff was it very rude. I observed most of the employees were Filipino which is odd but the reason I bring this up is because I felt very uncomfortable because the employees all spoke in Tagalog I felt like they were talking about me and laughing and that really is not a place I want to shop. Maybe I'm just used to the Norfolk exchange but I hate the fact that the buildings are split up like that. So if I need multiple items j have to hop from Building to building and that is annoying. This review is solely on the appliance department, I have had phenomenal experience with the general store in the past at the electronics and furniture department. Having bought a beautiful brown leather couch from the Navy Exchange in the past, I had hoped that my experience with the appliance department would be similar. I would have had better luck on Craigslist instead. We were just about ready to move out of our old place and into our new residence and wanted to purge our pile of dirty laundry. To begin with, their customer service was somewhat lackluster when we picked out a washer and dryer. The guy didn't seem happy when we gave him the models we wanted but floated for a little bit on another washer. He said they would be delivered to our house and installed for about $85 on Wednesday (it was over the weekend when we made the purchase). So Wednesday comes around, and we're stoked that we'll get to wash our favorite gym attire again. A lady calls the night prior to confirm delivery, and Wednesday morning a guy calls to confirm they'll be there around 12pm-3pm. To our disappointment, when 2pm creeps around, a lady calls us to express her regret there was some kind of warehouse clerical error and we would be getting the set a little late on Friday. We were a little irritated since they confirmed delivery so many times but nonetheless, it was nothing we could do. Friday finally comes, and they brought the washer and dryer and set it up in our laundry room and after making sure it turns on, they left promptly. Later that night when we got home from work and started throwing the dirty laundry in the washer. Next we put it through the dryer, but found that our items were still damp. So we put it in for a longer cycle and restarted it. Once 30 minutes was up, we were dismayed to find our clothes and bedding still wet (and no, we didn't try to overload it). At this point, we set everything to "extra dry", "heavy", all the dry options applicable we could find and yet at the end of the 40 minutes, it still wasn't dry. So we called the store AGAIN and they referred us to a technician which wouldn't be able to come out until Monday. So TODAY, when the tech comes out, he wonders loudly why we were given the floor models at the store. How the heck were we supposed to know? We thought we ordered brand spanking new ones from the warehouse. Why else would they have a clerical mistake they took them DAYS to deliver? Anyways, he tells us our dryer is missing a crucial component and essentially, it's useless. He offered to have them replaced, but it would take THREE freaking weeks for them to do so. I called the store for a refund, but they won't be able to pick it up until Wednesday and give us our money back to BUY a new set until Friday. Am still pondering what to do but this whole thing has been infuriating. Update 6/5/15. It's Friday morning those guys stopped by to get the washer and dryer Wednesday morning. Do not purchase jewelry from this place. While trying to return a ring that was in their possession to be sized, they would not refund my daughter's money. They stated that their return policy would not allow for a refund because the ring had been sized from a size 8 to an 8 1/2, but the store could not produce such policy in writing. Not to mention does a half size up in a ring prevent my daughter from getting a refund? The policy on the receipt states that merchandise can be returned within 45 days. I will personally give this 4 stars for a couple reasons. Today I was there between 1030-1130. I went there to pick up some gardening things so I can plant my flowers at our new house. hopefully this is the place where I can place the comment because I couldn't figure if this was part of.the gardening section. I encountered a fellow employee. Not kind, nor had any gratitude, and in other was a disrespectful woman. She was an elderly lady not too old. I paid with my debit card, which is a joint account with my wife, as well as she is my sponsor. This lady was rude and told me I couldn't pay with my debit card because my name wasn't on it. Since when in the HELL did people check ID'S for debit cards. Then she called the manager and kind enough that he is! He allowed it, yet this woman wanted to question his saying. When a manager says go ahead LADY IT MEANS GO AHEAD. Other than that this store I'd wonderful and everyone in there but her. She needs to take customer service classes because she isn't fit foe.the job. read more

You guys, scratcher weekend is the best! One time, I got 50% off and my cashier and I started squealing, and everyone clapped. NICE. I buy all of my makeup here - Bare Minerals, Clinique, Benefit, and Nars. It is just like the mall counters, but cheaper. Sunglasses are also a steal, as is fitness equipment. The only thing that I have noted is that their jewelry is not the best quality, but it is probably on par with mall stores. They do carry the Blue Lagoon by Mikimoto line, which is great for everyday wear, and much easier on the wallet than Mikimoto. read more

I'm in Washington and he's at Pendleton. I asked if they could take a debit card over the phone or a cashiers check, they said NO. So how can an outside like myself surprise my Grandson? This NEX is pretty much a one stop shop for anything you could want to purchase from the big stores like Target, Walmart, Macy's all wrapped into one. They have a huge selection of jewelry (I purchased my wedding band there) and offer great deals to be able to upgrade if you purchased your original ring there. You just pay the difference between the purchase price on your old ring and the purchase price of the new ring. Sizing is free! They also have a wide assortment of designer goodies (handbags, sunglasses, watches, clothes, footwear), electronics, home goods, etc. Everyone I have encountered at the NEX has been very friendly and helpful. Another great bonus... no tax! I have always managed to find parking easily, even on weekends. Only downside? I can never seem to find what I am looking for as far as business clothes for work. Came here specifically to shop for Estée Lauder products since I had a negative experience at the MCRD SD PX. This review is specifically for the Estée Lauder counter. Estée Lauder counter: I found that the Estée Lauder counter rep to be friendly, slightly rushed, but very misinformed. I was looking for sunscreen and had a bad experience with another Lancôme counter at another location so I came here looking for an Estée Lauder sunscreen instead. I tried a small sample on my hand was told that all sunscreens smell differently (which made me happy to hear). I was also told that I would be doing a disservice to my skin if I purchased anything less than 50 SPF (a statement I agree with). However, the smell of sunscreen is enough for me to keep looking until I find the right one. My complaint however isn't with the smell of the product but the manner in which she interacted with me. While she is correct that 50 SPF would be the best, she aggressively told me that every single sunscreen would have it. Once again, I shared told her that I had previously used another brand called Supergoop (Sephora and Nordstrom carry it) which is also 50 SPF but does NOT smell like a regular sunscreen. It doesn't have that sunscreen smell because it doesn't have titanium dioxide as one of the ingredients. I inquired about the BB cream since it had SPF 35 and thought for now, I would try it until I found a replacement. Without going through all of the shades, she pushed a shade on me and said "it should work." When there are testers, I would rather give it a try instead of taking a guess and seeing if it works after I get home. She said she would be available for more questions but she was already with another customer by the time I figured out what I wanted to ask. By this time, I was tired and just wanted to give up, so I bought the BB cream and left. I can only hope it'll work. Though she wasn't as rude as the Lancôme rep at MCRD San Diego, it still would have been nice to have been taken seriously about the Supergoop product. I have the product in my cabinet but have to stop using it because even though it doesn't have the titanium dioxide, it does have an oil ingredient in which I am unable to use. Please do your research. It'll make you a much more well rounded and trusted customer service professional. She missed out on some other sales opportunities but I'll be heading back to Sephora, Nordstrom, or Miramar PX for my other needs. Yes, it'll coat more money, but that's what you get for better customer service. That in itself is worth it. I'll return to an NEX or PX once I am educated the right way at one of the more customer oriented stores. read more

This is for the Exchange cafeteria of yore whose Vietnamese line cook would whip up a mean custom omelet, fry corn beef hash, toast and butter bread, and sizzle the bacon all at once without missing a beat. This is for "the base" that had a barber shop full of Filipino barbers who would threaten to cut your ear off if you moved your head. This is the Exchange where you were always lulled by the juicy scent of the NEX Hot Dog Shack for the inevitable post shopping dog with relish and mustard, or perhaps some hot nachos con cheese whiz sauce and jalapenos. This review is for the NEX that had layaway lines 4 miles long. This review is for the Navy Exchange who was run by the Filipino Mafia. This is for the one that had the annoying ladies who would check your ID at the door with their little clicker counters. This is a review for the Navy Exchange where you could buy gas for your car, fertilizer for your lawn, liquor for your liver, dried mango slices for your mouth, and a jet model to build with your hands all in the matter of minutes since everything was jam packed into this consumer compound of delights. I miss that Navy Exchange. Those days were golden. That's as good as it got. I hear it's no longer that way. I was buying a pool and spa chlorine and fortunately the item scanned for 0.01 cent, but the cashier named Ezra did not notify me about error and just took a different tag price item to charge me. I step out the store and look at the bar code and name of the item and it did not match, So i went to the costumer service and told them the error and spoke to shanika. I asked to charge me the actual item and I'm willing to pay for whatever the actual price. Shanika verifies the bar code and name of the item and scan it and come out to 0.01 but Ezra's coworker insisted and said i'm getting the right charge for the item that does not even match the description of what I am buying. I felt that he was taking money from the costumer and did not want to charge me the proper amount. Error was all on them, the item should have been discounted or even free after the all the trouble. Ezra's co cashier/worker should learn to listen and look at the item, not just ignore customer and their customer service's problem and he said he's just going to get the item on the invoice and i said thats not what i need and it not the same. Since im getting mad to this old white hair dude wearing a light green polo that work today 20200516@ 2:08 in the garden cashier, i just return the item. This review is for their appliance store. I purchased a refrigerator from them and the salesman said 2-3 weeks. After I paid for it he said he would call me once he confirmed how long it would take. Two days pass by and no call. I go into the exchange on Saturday and all the sales people are standing around chit chatting with one another. I approach a guy who looked upset when he realized I interrupted his conversation with his coworkers and was asking about a low end fridge for the garage. He showed me some in the corner and I can tell he was probably unhappy with the commission he was getting (I assuming they get commission by his look when I was looking at $700-800 fridges). Annoyed with his attitude I said don't worry about it. Instead I went to the counter and asked about the fridge I purchased a couple of days earlier. The ladies at the desk said someone from appliances would have to help me and they called over Cyrus (the same guy who had the attitude earlier). His response "I don't know anything. Come back Monday". Another customer looked at me like "OMG was he rude". I turn to the ladies at the desk who didn't look surprised at how rude he treats customers and asked if I can have someone else assist me since he is so rude. One lady came over and assisted me. She said it would take 4 weeks not 2 but she would confirm on Monday and call me back... Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday comes... No call back. Going on 5 weeks now and still no call.... Had the salesman (Ash) been HONEST with me about the timeframe I would've went elsewhere. read more

I have to admit, I have been here whenever I have the chance to visit San Diego. It's one of the largest NEX stores in the continental U.S., so naturally my family would go inside and see whatever deals were inside (note: to see who can shop inside the NEX, read my review on Navy Lodge, I list 4 categories). So this place has gone through transition and renovation. Yes, it does look really nice on the inside (think like a super nice department store with electronics, books, and excellent selection of apparel) but unfortunately the transition left something behind...great deals. Sure, everything (or almost everything) is at least 10 to 20 percent off prices in comparison to off-base merchants, but I didn't see much in terms of bargain closeout sales or clearance items marked 75 percent off. It's a great selection, no doubt, but now my family and I can hardly buy anything from here (although when we do, there's no sales tax). So, if you are looking to buy some premium-branded stuff at 20 percent off retail, and you're eligible to buy from the exchange, the NEX might be worth your time. If you're looking for mark downs on great merchandise, well, those deals are few and far between. read more

BEWARE OF LEATHER FURNITURE SALES because you may think you're buying leather when you are buying vinyl. My husband & I were just told multiple times that a couch we were purchasing was leather on all seating areas & leather match on the sides, but it isn't leather at all. Not anywhere. It's vinyl. I said that I needed leather due to having large pets and that I was purchasing it to sleep on for the next 6 weeks due to a major surgery I have scheduled In 4 1/2 days. I would have not only lost the money for delivery but would have had to pay over $400 in a restocking fee, plus been out $100 for delivery and had to spend another $150 to have it returned. I realize that mistakes can happen but i was very specific about what I needed & how urgently I needed it and will never purchase furniture here again. Probably one of my favorite bases to shop at. I feel like they have a lot more products to choose from when compared to Miramar or Camp Pendleton. Parking is always plentiful and the prices are a whole lot better than the mall. I shop the clearance racks and occasionally you can use your scratch-off discount cards or take advantage of whatever promotion they are having. I like the selection and it is a bit more in some areas like electronics and clothing than they do at the Marine Corps Exchange over at Miramar. I regularly shop at both and they have different promotions going on all the time so you have to just go at random to see what promotions are going on at each. If one doesn't have something, I go to the other, they are both great. The Navy Exchange employees are helpful. The cash-register lines at the clothing side always move quickly because they are efficient. They have a machine that calls which register is open. There are two gates into the Navy Exchange, I find that the one on 32nd street moves much quicker and it is easier to get on the I-15 getting out. The outside of the buildings are dated, but the inside feels like a mall. They carry name brands at a very good price. If you don't believe me, go to the mall and try to buy the same thing. Mall prices are very close to the "suggested retail price" and you'll have to pay sales tax on top of that. Today, I bought a shirt with the suggested retail price of $65.50, but due to markdowns and a promotion discount, I only paid $8.48! I was really surprised and it wasn't the first time I accidentally bought something on promotion. read more

I set up an appointment for my daughter to get blue and pink hair color. I showed pictures. Had it set up two weeks in advance. Made two phone calls to confirm time and color. Get there and the lady said she doesn't feel comfortable doing it. Front desk only put down I wanted highlights. I am so livid at their lack of knowledge, coordination and customer service. Fantastic Sams got me in right away and saved the day. Will never go back. (Barber shop is really good though. Will still use them.). read more

Macy's on steroids. I love this place. The prices are lower than anywhere outside the base. The clothes are name brand stuff like RVCA, Quiksilver, Nike, Adidas, etc. Wide selection of sunglasses and watches. The electronics sections is freaking gigantic! Wide selection of athletic shoes, dress shoes, casual, you name it. There is a GNC, General Nutrition Center, next to the electronics section upstairs. No sales tax! read more

I enjoy coming to this NEX. I believe this is the biggest one of all San Diego County. Obviously, you cannot come here unless you have a military ID. I come here often. it is easier for me to shop when my kids are with me because they have free wifi and I can just have my kids on my phone or tablets while I shop! Plus, I feel safer coming here because it is inside the military. And there are no tax! read more
