When I tell you this is such a tasty Indian restaurant, it's perfect in so many different ways, Saffron Indian Bistro has so many different Indian dishes, the variety is amazing. Even the restaurant has a warm light cozy feel. The waitress we had had such a sweet and wholesome demeanor and was also attentive, she even gave us great recommendations when we couldn't choose a certain appetizer. My partner and I ordered drinks and we couldn't believe how reasonably priced they were, that was definitely a plus! After the drinks the food came out very quick, first were the Lamb Samosas which were very flavorful and the sauce included paired so well together. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo as my main meal which was so tasty but also spicy!! Please choose your spice level carefully as I got a 3 for mine and was perfectly spicy but if you're not a spicy fan go lower. My partner ordered the Chicken Biriyani and the portion you get for that is HUGE. Expect leftovers. Overall the experience here was a 10/10 read more

I am extremely disappointed with this establishment. I have frequented this restaurant numerous times in the past, and the food has always been good. However, my experience today was unacceptable. The individual who appeared to be the manager or owner came out and personally spoke with three Caucasian customers at separate tables, asking about their food and service. There were also three African-American customers seated at separate tables, including my table, and he deliberately skipped over every one of us. The seating arrangement made the difference in treatment especially noticeable: white, Black, white, Black, white. He spoke to each Caucasian customer but completely ignored the African-American customers. THIS WAS INTENTIONAL... VERY INTENTIONAL.. Racist!!! Because of this experience, I will not return to this restaurant, and I will make sure my business contacts in Virginia Beach are aware of what happened. I will not support an establishment where customers feel ignored or treated differently based on race. Our money deserves to be spent where everyone is treated with equal respect. read more

My daughter has been telling me she wanted to go out for Indian food, so we decided to give Saffron a try. She and I were immediately seated, but our server took a while to come over despite it not being very busy. After leaving us with menus, it was a while before he returned. By the time he came to ask us what we wanted to drink, we had already decided on our appetizers and meals. Our food came out in a timely manner. It was hot...both in temp and spice! For an appetizer, we ordered the Grand Sampler (nothing on it was spicy). It came with fried fish, chicken bites, and 2 jumbo shrimp with a small serving of tamarind sauce and mint chutney sauce. The fish with the tamarind was % on point! That sauce actually went well with everything. The mint chutney lacked flavor. For dinner, we ordered tikka masala and butter chicken, both which came with basmati rice. When ordering, we were asked about our preferred spice level, 1-5. We said 3, thinking it would be a safe choice...but we were mistaken. Our mouths were on fire ! Don't get me wrong, the flavor was poppin', especially the butter chicken, but both dishes were very spicy. The one thing our server did do well was keep our glasses filled with water. We definitely needed it! For dessert, we shared the Gulab Jamun, 2 donut holes soaked in a light syrup. It wasn't our favorite, but it was cool to try something new. My daughter and I will definitely be back to check out some other menu items...but we will not be ordering level 3 spice! Overall it was a good experience. Great vibe, soft lighting, window seating, and friendly staff...my only real complaint would be our server's attention (outside of refilling our water). We ordered takeout from Saffron. When we arrived the order was ready. I got the vegetarian tikka masala with naan. I thought I might miss the meat. But surprisingly I was fine without it. The sauce was good and I enjoyed the vegetables. There was some kind of tough stringy vegetable in it, which I have no idea what it was. But the carrots, potatoes, and peas were tasty and filling. I absolutely love Indian cuisine so when the opportunity arose to try Saffron Indian Bistro, I gladly accepted. Even though this location is in the heart of Town Center, there are multiple parking garages in the area that allow for easy parking. Once we arrived, we were seated right away since it was pretty empty on a Tuesday evening. Our server, Isha, quickly greeted us and was super personable. We started with the Vegetable Samosas which were delicious especially with the dipping sauces, then we ordered the Butter Chicken and the Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan. I always choose the spice level at around a 2 because it gives the dish just enough kick without being overly spicy! The food was served fairly quickly and everything tasted great. The chicken was very tender, the spice level was perfect and both dishes were very flavorful. Isha stopped by fairly often to make sure we were enjoying our meals and even shared a few laughs with us. Once we finished, she encouraged us to try some dessert so we chose the Mango Kulfi. It tasted like a rich flavored sherbet, it was very good and I'm glad we tried something new. Overall, I would return in a heartbeat. The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly. The food was delicious. The decor was welcoming. Bathroom clean and service attentive. I would've given 4.5 stars (my chai wasn't hot) but my husband said 5, so there you go. Portion sizes are decent and we definitely took home leftovers. My husband ordered mango chicken (medium spice) and it was really good. The chicken biryani was also ordered medium spice but was spicier than the mango chicken. The vegetable samosa was delicious. The cheese naan didn't have the cheese evenly distributed but that's just nitpicking. The garlic naan was flavorful. We've been coming here a long time now and we've had some really good meals and some really disappointing meals. Our issue is the consistency of the meal is always 50-50. We'll either have something amazing or we'll have something that is very mid. Sometimes the spice level is off as in it's not as spicy as it should be like a level 3 tastes like a level 2 or it isn't as flavor full. Also sometimes the curry is more watery than thick. When the meal is watery and not as spicy it sucks knowing your paying $60+ for it and feels like a waste of money. I feel like we get better chances for quality when we sit down vs when we order it for pick up. Even when we sit down the consistency is still a hit or a miss (it is more of a hit than a miss though). The staff is really nice and very attentive but once in a while too attentive by just standing there staring at you so that's uncomfortable. We do love the food here but I really have to question what's going on with the consistency, that's why I believe it's reasonable to give Saffron 3 stars. I wish I could give it a perfect 5 stars because when it is a hit I can't wait to come back. read more

This evening my grandson took me out for dinner at Saffron Indian Bistro , I must say this is my 2nd time here and it definitely was a better experience this time around. The 1st time was a few years ago and the welcoming was not friendly , it was very harsh I will leave it at that , Today the young man that sat us down was a bit aggressive he kind of was a bit upset that we did not order something to drink right away , I didn't let that deter the rest of the evening. The young lady that took our order she was thin with glasses and the sweetest young lady ever , she came to our table with a smile , gave us time to review the menu , took our order and repeated it back to make sure she had everything , was very attentive and checking on us , the food was amazing , we will over look the nasty man with an attitude that sat us down and remember the rest of the night which was amazing and we will be back read more

Overall, food was great. Very well seasoned and tasty. Service leaves a little bit to be desired.., my husband's appetizer came out at least 10 minutes before mine and I had to ask for mine. The soup was a little salty. The waiter got the order incorrect.. we also were given small plates to eat from only halfway through our meal did the server realize we didn't have big plates. Excellent food! I have loved everything I've ordered, and I've been here several times. It's by far the best Indian cuisine in the area. Also, if you're concerned about it possibly being too spicy for you, they ask you how spicy you want your food on a scale of one to five, with one being the least and five being the most. For someone who is ordering at a level one, I can share that the flavors have depth and a tiny kick, but not too much for those of you that don't like super spicy food. I'm not sure what happened at Saffron but they've certainly gone downhill. Save yourself the frustration and money. My party of 4 arrived on Valentine's Day for an 8 PM reservation. I walked into a crowded lobby area that was eerily quiet. All the tables at the front had "reserved" signs on them but no one was greeting or seating. I asked someone what was going on, found out 3 other parties were waiting with reservations, and the rest of the crowd had walked in but no one came over to seat them. Two parties walked out after waiting for over 15 minutes. Some people had gone to the bar to ask to be seated just for the staff to walk away without saying anything. When I went to the bar to inquire about our reservation there was a customer sitting there that had ordered his food for pick up over the phone at 7:10 only to arrive and be told they didn't have his order. So at this point, my party knew we were walking into a poor experience but we all agreed to stick it out. Honestly, we weren't in a rush and we had a gift card to spend. After about 5 more minutes of waiting, the 3 parties with 8 PM reservations banded together to ask what the heck was going on. Finally, an older man took all of us to the back, walking past tables of frowning and disgruntled customers. Never a good sign. We were seated and then the man left. No one came around for a while to offer water or even take drink orders. At one point I just decided to pour my own water since I could see it sitting across the room and I was the one refreshing our drinks throughout the night. From my perspective, there were a total of 5 people working in the whole restaurant. There was a busboy with AirPods in that had no problem taking his time clearing tables, two older gentlemen that were taking orders, a younger man that was bringing out food, and a woman at the front. There was no communication or organization in the whole process. We watched three parties leave before they even had a chance to order. Luckily I was in good company so we were having a good time while waiting for service. When a waiter finally came he made a point to tell every table how he was in so much pain and asked for everyone to have patience. I felt a little emphatic at this point but then the gentleman decided to sit down at our table and launch into a story about his doctor. Dude. Not cool. You just took the orders from three other tables and now you're holding up their orders getting to the kitchen because you want to lament. Not the time nor the place. I could keep going but I think at this point you get it. Service was abhorrently slow and unprofessional for everyone in the restaurant. For a moment we seriously thought we might be on a reality tv prank show. When the food finally came out it was good but it wasn't worth the hassle. Next time I'll just make the 8 minute drive to Nawab or Biryani Hub down VB blvd. I have money left on my gift card but I won't be going back to this location. read more

One server in particular was very knowledgeable about the flavor profile and that was really helpful is making my decision. So I really had high hopes for this place, but I was very disappointed. Let's start with the service, I arrived there was no one in front to help you. Once a waitress was available she walked pass and continued do what she was doing. Some one else walked behind me she turned around skipped me and asked the other lady if she needed any help. The lady was nice enough to tell the waitress that I was here first she continued to ignore me. I then informed her I was here for a pickup order she walked off without responding and another person came around and called out names for orders. Now for the food I ordered the lamb rogan josh. This is my to-go Indian cuisine in Virginia Beach! The servers are funny. If you go there couple times they'll know you and make some jokes. They're friendly! It is nice and quiet inside. Sometimes they will provide little chips with a green dipping sauce sometimes they don't. I always get their Mango Lassi, Chicken Tikki Masala(comes with rice) and Garlic Naan. Mango Lassi is a mango yogurt drink. It is not too sweet and refreshing. The Chicken Tikki Masala is by far the most flavorful Masala I've had in Virginia Beach area. Other places are heavy on cream. Here? You can already tell by its color. You can REALLY taste the spices! I always get mines 3 on spicy (1-least spicy, 5 most spicy). It is going to be too hot for my bf who has a poor stomach lol but good for whoever can take spicy food (or 5 if you have a stomach made with stone!) The Garlic Naan is so fresh and tasty. It is a Naan with fresh chopped garlic and cilantro on top. It is good with dipping your Masala and curry. I also tried their Veg Samosa and Coconut Curry with Beef, and they are good too. The Veg Samosa is a bit disappointing on the portion because it only comes with three. It's only $5 but I'd rather have it smaller but with at least four so it's easier to share with my friends. The Coconut Curry with Beef is very good! It has shredded coconut in the curry and the beef is actually BIG chunks of briskets! The only criticism other than the portion of the Veg Samosa is that they don't have any specials for lunch like other restaurants, so it's kinda pricy to go their for lunch. read more

The presentation and amount of food in comparison to prices were not aligning. There wasn't anything special about the food (that Indian flavor) either.
