A few years ago I brought Nazmiyal an antique Persian rug that had experienced some difficulties; in just a few weeks they'd cleaned it up, made some repairs, and returned it to me - all at a reasonable price. So when I realized that a few more recent rugs (bought in Turkey about 20 years ago) needed cleaning and some light repairs, of course I brought them to Nazmiyal. As was the case earlier, both rugs were cleaned up and repaired beautifully. The people here are friendly, respectful, and highly competent - and they know more about rugs than anyone else I've met anywhere. My apartment is not large and I don't have room for any more rugs - but when the rug I bought in India a few years ago needs cleaning (sometime in the 2040s is what I'm guessing), I'll bring it here. And if I ever move to a larger place, I'll be coming to Nazmiyal to maybe pick up a few more rugs. They've got a huge collection. read more

The owner is very rude (especially to women), even though we were recommended by a client who has bought over 50 rugs (he has several estates) over decades. He told us 75 year-old Persian rugs were worthless and that he did not sell Sarouks (not the case) and that no one wanted reds or blues... He then called my partner a liar. Excellent Rug Repair Service -- We were looking for someone to make a repair in our Oriental carpet that was unraveling along one edge. We were happy to find a company with a physical location - it's actually a high-end store for antique rugs. The gentleman who assisted us, Alen Erfanian, gave us excellent advice, quick service, and a fair price. By phone, he quoted us $125-$250 for the repair, and suggested we might want to pay an additional $250 to get it cleaned. But he ended up doing the repair and a mini-cleaning for $125, exactly what we wanted. The only negative is the store is only open M-F, so we could not arrange drop-off/pick-up for the weekend. read more

I brought in a rug for appraisal that I was thinking of purchasing from another dealer. Omri and Alen both had a look at it and told me in seconds where the rug came from, how old it was, and how, why, and where it had been repaired (so expertly that I hadn't spotted it). With some caveats they assured me I was getting a fair deal, but then threw in some very welcome advice on negotiating, evaluating rugs, building a collection, training my eye, and enjoying the whole process. It was Rugs 101 in 20 minutes, done with generosity and wit, and at the end of it they refused to take any payment.
