SCAM. Ordered a round carpet, went over the need for an invisible seam, assured many times over that it would be invisible. They stitched the carpet backwards, edge banding wasn't sewn on, just really terrible. They offered me 300 dollar discount for a 3000 dollar rug. Go elsewhere. read more

If you're seeking incompetence, rudeness, being gaslit and incredibly long delays, then you'll be ok with this business. Otherwise stay away! A small project that was supposed to take a couple of weeks took three months. The owner and his manager make agreements that they don't keep. The problems were many -- first they didn't order enough floor material after measuring and installing. Had to wait many weeks. Then when completing the floor they damaged another part of the floor in the process. Had to wait many more weeks. The installer was never available, or was told he would be and then wasn't. The installation is shoddy. There are lumps and bumps under the carpet in various spots around the room and in one area, a ridge that runs into the room. I like to give business to smaller independent companies rather than the big box stores but, while the carpet itself is decent, the service was not. Had the crew arrived a little earlier they could have completed the job without rushing at the end. Also they removed a door which they insisted I had removed...nope, I'm not in the habit of taking down my doors. I wrote to the store twice to ask them to rectify the carpet problem but they have not responded. I can't be bothered to chase them down any more. But they're not exactly cheap. So spend your money elsewhere. I guess meanwhile I'm living with underfoot ridges and will just choose not to get annoyed every time I step on them. read more

I purchased carpet and had it installed by Manhattan Carpet a year and a half ago, and it started to buckle. I phoned them to send someone out to stretch it. They said that they would schedule and send someone out, They never did, and everytime i call them they say the same thing. I'm considering installing new carpet in other areas of my home, but i would NEVER EVER use Manhattan Carpet again. Their service and followup sucks. I advise you to go to a more reputable carpet store. read more

We had our floor installed by this company. It seemed fine at first. But after a year, bumps slowly appeared throughout the floor and after many months some have now look like mini-volcanoes. (Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't allow you to attach pictures.) I've called numerous times, been told they'd call back but have always had to call them back again. They finally made an appointment, but they cancelled it a half hour after they were supposed to be at my apartment. And, yes, I called again to set one up, but they always got off the phone saying they'd call me back. My last thing was to email them from their site to be told they'd be in touch very soon. But, not, they haven't called or emailed in the over two weeks since then. In other words, if they do something wrong, don't expect them to take responsibility and make it right. In contrast, we just had our apartment painted with a 2-year guarantee to take care of any problems that occur. read more

Our experience with Manhattan Carpet could've been better. They were sweet enough to understand our needs once we lost our space a year ago and, so they held our floors for us since we had already made a first half of the payment. Once we moved to our new space we moved forward to install our floors and all was going well till Manhattan carpet took forever to finish the floors and when they were half way done, some of the tiles were already coming off because of bad installation. Not only that, but towards the end they rushed to finish so they could charge our credit card they had on file WITHOUT our authorization. Bottom line, after 4 months of our floors being installed they started coming off and I had to get another company to come and fix it. I would just say be careful when giving Manhattan carpet a credit card and watch if they are doing their job correctly. Nonetheless we learned how to be more cautious with companies like that. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had in 45 years of living in my apt. I went into the showroom, picked a carpet, paid and made an appointment for installation. In the store I specifically described that my apt. was a 7 floor walk-up, also that there were two empty armoires (on castors making them easy to move) in the room which would have to be worked around. I mentioned these facts more than once to Vernon, the installer. He seemed fine with it. Vernon showed up, and began work. After an hour he had done nothing except complain about how small the room was! Then he told me I had to move some things, like a low temporary shelf and some small items in the adjacent kitchen, so he could do his work. No problem, I said, and started moving stuff right away. The procedure would've taken me a maximum of 15 - 20 minutes to complete, but then he said "No, no" I'll come back, and he left! But not before telling me I had to remove all my crystal glasses and spice jars from the adjacent kitchen, even though that wasn't the room to be carpeted. He also had a long theory about my previous bed bug problem which I didn't want to hear, though that somehow was his explanation why he couldn't use the standard method of installation which is with slats and carpet tacks. After he left, I called and literally BEGGED Manhattan Carpet not to send the same guy. They said he was their "only guy" (for a company of this size that seems doubtful.) I also said I wanted installation with carpet tacks but they refused! Before Vernon came back I complied with everythingHe told to me to remove, except for one file cabinet, which I had already moved out of the room to be carpeted into the kitchen, but wasn't sure which side of the kitchen he wanted it to be on. And so Vernon came back and installed carpet in my 6 x 12 room. I was 2 rooms away and there was such an intense chemical smell throughout the apt., so strong I had to open all my windows. When he was finished, I looked at the room and said "It looks fine, great, Vernon. But can you tell me what you were using to install the carpet?" He looked right at me and said "No, I won't tell you." I thought he was joking, so I asked him again and he refused to tell me! I was standing in the doorway and I said "Before you leave I want to know what you used in the installation, to secure the carpet." He said no, so I would not let him pass. "I said "Just tell me what you used to put down the carpet, what's the big deal?" It was getting weird. He demanded I let him by but I said I would not until he answered my simple question. So he said "I'm calling the police!" I said "Great, please do." Then he started video taping me on his phone and called his boss Dave on his other phone, and said "This lady is crazy, she won't let me leave." (I am 100 lbs, 67 years old, so I don't think I posed much of a threat ) I asked to speak to Dave, Vernon refused to let me. He also told Dave that I was "attacking" him! This literally went on for about 15 minutes. Finally he said "silicone" and left." COMPLETE PSYCHO. The actual installation is okay, but I've been totally unsuccessful in finding out from the owners what was used to install my carpet. Now when I call and ask for Dave (the boss) he's never available, and never returns calls. Although if you call back 5 minutes later, he answers the phone! Avoid this place at all costs. P.S. Terrible customer service. Store's management will not assume any responsibility for a faulty product and poor wear. My rug's padding has spread under rug and needs to be trimmed. My rug is buckling for no explicable reason. Store sent an inspector to my apartment. He validated my concerns, took photos, carefully examined entire room and agreed with me. I received a call stating that I would need a new padding and carpet stretching. For this correction my fee would be $250 plus tax; nearing close to $300. I explained that another room has had the same area rug for over 25 year, with heavy bedroom furniture on top with absolutely no problems. I may have well be speaking to myself. I learned an expensive lesson. I encourage anyone in the market of flooring, to shop carefully, get a recommendation, and look for excellent customer service. read more

I paid a deposit of $2300 on 5/19/15 for installation of fitted carpet. The installation was delayed twice (!!!!) but, finally, scheduled and completed on 8/24/15. I was not satisfied with installation and, that evening, sent photos by email of the wrinkled carpet, saying that I would pay the balance (approx $1400), by check, when the problem was fixed. I was told, in an email, that the problem was easy to fix. I replied, offering two dates for a service call, but didn't hear back. Imagine my ASTONISHMENT when I saw, less than two weeks later, on my credit card bill, that the store had BILLED ME for the BALANCE on 8/13/15 - in other words, ELEVEN DAYS BEFORE INSTALLATION. IT WAS CRIMINAL TO CHARGE MY CARD FOR THE BALANCE BEFORE THE CARPET WAS INSTALLED. So, in summary, the installation was put off twice, the installation was faulty, and the company took the balance owed before they had even installed the carpet. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Now it's 11/19/2015. VISA kindly stopped payment of the balance that was fraudulently charged to my credit card, by Manhattan Carpet without their telling me and before they installed the carpet. To protect other consumers and to report this shady practice, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). After many weeks of communication with BBB, they wrote to me today: "Your BBB has tried to present your complaint to manhattan redi cut carpet inc [the official name of this company] in an attempt to resolve this matter to your mutual satisfaction. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we have received no response to your complaint. We attempted to contact manhattan redi cut carpet inc through written correspondence twice on your behalf,The firm's failure to respond to your complaint will be reflected in its BBB record.  A firm's rating may be affected by its failure to answer even one complaint. Your experience may, therefore, alert other inquirers seeking information through the BBB." So, now, in summary, (1) the installation was put off twice, (2) the installation was faulty, (3) the company took the balance owed before they had even installed the carpet, and (4) they failed to respond to two written messages from BBB. All I can say is WOW! After a DIFFERENT contractor had completely destroyed my floors and baseboards (along with thousands of other dollars worth of damage), I discovered Manhattan Carpet and Floors. I had walked by there dozens of times on the way to work and always saw people in there. Nervous to trust anyone in my apartment after my previous experience, I sat down with Frank and David and told them my story. My parquet floors had been stained with a product that was poorly applied. My only options were to sand them or get new floors. Resistant to sand ANYTHING, we discussed laminate. I had mixed feelings about laminate, but Frank and David showed me their high quality laminate products. While wood was certainly more costly, high quality laminate is not cheap, but I've learned the hard way that a deal is never a deal. The laminate looked so much like wood I could not even tell. I live close to the store so Frank and I walked right over to look at my apt that evening to measure, bring samples over, etc. Once the product arrived to their wharehouse, Frank had it delivered to my apartment so it could sit there for a day and get used to the temperature in my apartment (that's how you know you are dealing with a pro). My apartment is a one bedroom with A LOT of furniture. It took them ONE DAY to install everything (new floors and baseboards). I was shocked,impressed and pleasantly surprised. I have been recommending them to everyone in my building. I chose Coretec Plus Clear Lake Oak. It looks just like wood and is so easy to clean. I was extraordinarily pleased with the services provided by Manhattan Carpet. When I first entered the store, the salesperson clearly understood the type of carpeting I was looking for, and showed me a number of appropriate samples. He allowed me to borrow the samples, and when it was time for them to be returned, he actually came to my home and helped me make a selection. The carpet was ordered promptly, arrived on time (the company apparently has excellent relationships with its suppliers), and the installation took place as scheduled. The salesperson gave me specific instructions on how to prepare for the installation, and fortunately, I did not need to remove several heavy pieces of furniture from the room. I was very impressed with the installation - the workers were very professional, knowledgeable and efficient. They addressed several challenges (including how to get the carpet into a closet with a low-hanging door) and helped move the furniture. The installation was completed very quickly, the workers removed all of the debris and tied up some remnants for me to keep. The cost was very reasonable, the salesperson clearly explained the variation in price between different qualities of carpet (and how each selection would affect the ultimate cost), and all of the expenses were clearly broken down. Overall, I was very impressed with Manhattan Carpet - it was one of the best home improvement experiences I've ever had. I highly recommend the company. read more

Superb help picking out carpeting to be cut into a rug for our living room. David worked with us for some time showing us all sorts of possibilities and helping us narrow down to what turned out to be a beautiful cut rug. And when it was delivered today, their delivery person vacuumed the area, helped us move furniture and laid the rug perfectly to coordinate with the furniture.
