WOW! Just wow. You can't really find a restaurant in the OBX that takes reservations during the summer, so it's always a crap shoot. NC Coast was recommended by a family member who lives in Corolla, and it exceeded all expectations! We got a table for 4 outside and were able to sit within 15 mins at 5PM on a Wednesday in July, probably because it was so hot that evening. Our server Grace could not have been better - she was SO friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, with great reccos on menu items! Not easy to do on such a hot and busy evening, and she was just fantastic! FOOD: We shared the Crab Dip and Fried Cauliflower - both delicious! Was a little surprised by the Pico on top of the dip, but it added SUCH a great freshness to the creamy dip underneath. And the Cauliflower, y'all! The BEST cook and sauce (sweet chili). Shrimp and Grits were fantastic - great recco by Grace! Perfectly cooked shrimp, and the whole dish was perfectly seasoned with flavor, tang, and freshness. Both who ordered the Ribeye loved the dish! The veg and chimichurri were perfect accompaniments, and the cook on both (Med and Med Rare) were perfect as well. If you want to eat here during the summer months (and trust me, you want to), you better secure reservations in advance. This place is popular, and for good reason. The food they serve here is not only delicious, but different than the typical seafood fare you find in the Outer Banks (although if you're craving seafood, they do have plenty). My favorite thing here is the coconut curry bowl, just spicy enough to break a sweat without being overwhelming. You also can't beat the location or the sunset that can be seen from the restaurant's outdoor seating right on the Duck boardwalk. When they have live music here it's magical to see the sun dip below the clouds with an acoustic guitar playing in the background. Service is also prompt and attentive. Minus one star because one year I came here and they were serving Oysters that had been preshucked and stuck in the freezer which were gross and dried up...totally get you want to cut down on wait times but raw seafood is not the place to try and cut down on time. read more

My mom and I stopped in here one night to sit outside and enjoy the sunset. We didn't have a reservation but put our names down and grabbed a drink and sat in their outside waiting area. It took about 30 minutes to get a seat. Once we sat, we got the three cheese crab dip which had a large chunk of just cream cheese in it and not a lot of crab. I also had to ask for extra old bay since the chips were only slightly dusted with them. For dinner, I ordered the baby beet salad with amazing seared scallops and my mom got the blood orange scallops which she also enjoyed with a delicious potato risotto. read more

Based on our previous experience, we had dinner here with high expectations during our annual trip to Duck. We left very disappointed. To be clear, our server was very nice-she was not the problem. We had the crab dip as an appetizer and it was okay. It could have been warm, but it was room temperature. I had the sexy caesar salad with a crab cake added on. There was barely any dressing on my salad. The same was true for my husband's caesar. My husband's steak was fatty and flavorless- very poorly prepared. In my opinion, any chef at a restaurant of this nature should be able to present a delicious steak. Period. It's cooking 101. My water glass also lipstick on it when we sat down. Our kind server was quick to replace it when we brought it to her attention. This is a lovely restaurant that needs to tie up some VERY loose ends. Sadly, we probably won't be back. read more

Okay, we stopped here to grab a quick drink and maybe an appetizer after walking on the Duck Boardwalk. We saw a Chef's Specialty Board (samples for two of many of the items from the main menu) served at another table and we are now hooked!!!! Our server explained the board, worked with us on my wife's dietary restrictions, and we got our own Chef's Specialty Board. The service from our waiter was exceptional and the Board was fabulous. NC Coast was so much fun! It's right on the water with lots of shade. Our waiter Colin was so personable and sweet. He got us set up with our drinks and appetizers quickly, and was good about refilling our waters (which is super important to me during the summer at these beach restaurants). For an appetizer, my husband and I ordered the crab dip. It was delicious and quite filling. For entrees, my husband got fish and chips. He is still on the eternal quest to find fish and chips as delicious as the ones we had in Poppy's while in London. He got a side of malt vinegar (he prefers white), and ate every bite! I ordered a lobster bomb without bacon. It was like a lobster ball on a brioche butter bun. I ate every bite, plus the fries it came with. We dined here for lunch. Had to wait awhile for our drinks but not a terrible amount of time. Service wasn't bad but the serving sizes were so tiny. Even the appetizer, definitely not shareable. The food tasted okay. It wasn't great. They're big on Cajun. The seafood options were mostly Cajun, even my seafood tacos. The ceiling fans have cob webs all over them. Too bad, they look fairly easy to clean when not moving. We won't return, mostly due to the serving sizes and food taste. Went from Nags Head, NC on a day trip to Duck and Corolla. My friend said this was a great place, so we stopped on the way back from the end of Corolla. Walked in just before 5pm to a nice beachy casual dining place. We had Carlos as our waiter who was excellent. We had french fries with salt and vinegar. They were awesome. They had almost a salt that was infused with vinegar and then ground to a powder, so there was no liquid vinegar to make the french fries soggy. That was great. They I ordered the scallops with a potato risotto. Very good, except there was too much liquid on the plate. It could have been more reduced and less of it. A bit too sweet, but tasty. Just less next time. My friend ordered the salmon which she loved too. Our drinks were nice as well. It is hard to get to Duck, but nice in the off season and the place was on the bay for a great sunset atmosphere. Would recommend. read more

The setting of this restaurant was the best thing about it. Service was extremely slow and the food was awful and overpriced.

What a great place to stop for lunch! Despite being right on the ocean, the number of places that seem to offer a good fish taco near OBX is depressingly small. (At least where we were staying!) We spent a couple hours walking the Duck Boardwalk, which is quite an interesting concept, but that's a tale for another review, and came across this lunch spot. --Food: I had a hankering for fish tacos, so I got the fish tacos with the fish of the day, tuna. My partner ordered fish and chips. We both got a side of the salt and vinegar fries. Also ordered a side of the tuna patron. The fish tacos were super tasty! Everything was fresh and flavorful and all of the toppings were thoughtfully added, despite there being guacamole, queso fresco, pico, and a slaw. Fish tacos done right if you ask me! The fries were also very good. She liked the fish and chips she got, and while I couldn't try any (dietary restriction), they looked delicious! She also loved the fries, and to be honest we still talk about the fries and how we should make some salt and vinegar fries at home. I'm a bit split on the tuna patron, but that might be a problem I brought on myself. We were thinking it would be a bit like a blackened tuna bite, but it's not. If you like rare tuna it's still a good dish, and the mango avocado salsa was incredibly flavorful, but it isn't spiced or prepared anything like a blackened tuna bite. I think we just expecting something a little different. It was good, but we wouldn't order it again. --Cost: Entrees are about $15-$20 depending on what you get. We were both very pleased with our lunches in terms of quantity and quality, so it's a perfect price point for the area. --Atmosphere: It's right on the Duck board walk close to the other shops. While the boardwalk isn't the prime pristine ocean atmosphere, there's something nice about eating fresh seafood while so close to a body of water. --Service: Staff was great. Despite it being pretty busy, they took the time to make sure some menu items were safe / could be modified for me to eat. (I have Celiac, darn gluten.) --Overall: Definitely would be back. A nice end to a nice walk and overall trip. I would probably try a different appetizer next time, but would get the fish tacos again. If you're in the area and didn't want donuts or snowcones (some of the more common things on the walk path nearby), definitely stop by. read more

My family had a wonderful dinner last evening at the NC Coast Grill and Bar! We had wonderful service and enjoyed the location of the restaurant on the sound. The cocktails were excellent. For an appetizer, we had a wonderful crab dip. For our entree, we ordered the "Chef's Board" for three people, and the food was outstanding - I highly recommend ordering the Chef's Board. Went to NC Coast our first night of girls weekend. They set the bar high for the rest of our trip. Since it was off season, we luckily had a reservation. From what I understand, they do not do reservations during the busy summer months. We were shown our table very quickly on a lively Friday evening. Got our drink order in and felt adventurous so we ordered the board for 7 people. It was amazing! Some of the best and most creative seafood entrees I've had on the outer banks. I came here for lunch with my family while vacationing in the Outer Banks. The restaurant offers a combination of classic seafood options, and New Orleans and Asian-influenced signature dishes. The food is good and the waterfront view on the back deck is amazing. I ordered the Soft-shell Crab Sandwich (daily special) and the Fish 'n Chips entrees. The Soft-shell Crab Sandwich came with a side of Salt & Vinegar Fries. Eating salt and vinegar chips at the beach is one of my simple pleasures, so eating salt and vinegar fries while enjoying the waterfront view was awesome. The soft-shell crab was good. It was battered and fried well, however it's not the best soft-shell crab sandwich that I've had in the area. The Fish 'n Chips were standard but good. The dish also included a refreshing and lightly spicy slaw, and Salt & Vinegar Fries which I liked. In addition, I had the Fresh Beignets which were amazing. They were perfectly fried, plated with chocolate sauce, and topped with powdered sugar. Overall, the food is good and the view is amazing. We were very excited to come here. Reviews seemed great. We ordered our food and there seemed to be a big misunderstanding with are order. So we ended up paying a lot more than what we wanted to. I guess there was nothing that could be done so it overall ruined our whole dinner. Service was a little slow and we were waiting around a while for our food and check. Food was good but overall disappointed with the experience. I wish there was a better outcome and the restaurant did something to make our experience better and fix the situation but they didn't. They made the misunderstanding our fault when it was obviously the servers. read more
