Huge windows from the floor to the ceiling that wrapped around the building . The view of the water was picturesque. For my appetizer we had crab dip with toasted chips , charbroiled oysters with pimento cheese and topped with jalapeño peppers. They were both good . For my entree I had the tomahawk pork chop , it was topped with a bacon jam. That jam was just ok , it was like a sweet sticky bacon crumble that tart ok but after a while it's off putting . It's to much of the bacon jam on top of the pork chop . The seasonal veggies I got double instead of the potato's . The veggies were so good , mixture of squash and re onion and something else I cannot recall . My wife had a cessation salad and then crab legs . She had beer as a drink . We were waiting to get a table at Aqua and popped over to see what was going on here. We were able to grab a table outside with a perfect view immediately (& cancelled at Aqua). The staff were friendly and wearing masks. Some of the patrons weren't wearing masks and they didn't seem to enforce it but we were outside so it felt a bit safer. We ordered a seafood feast and had a blast sitting outside, enjoying our dinner and watching the sun makes its way to setting. The steamed seafood is naturally gluten free and if you're dairy free, just don't dip it in the butter. It was a chilly evening so our butter ended up freezing. Our shells accumulated rather quickly and we piled a few plates with them. It would probably be better if they provided some kind of large bowl so that the mess was contained. Had dinner here this week based on good reviews. Website boasted seating at half capacity but clearly was not the case. Almost every table was filled as was the bar seating. The dining area and bar were all one open concept room. If you get a table by the window you'll have a nice sound view. Unfortunately, we were jammed by the front door with lots of passing patrons. Our server was fantastic, very attentive. Drinks and food arrival were timely. My favorite dish was the flash fried cauliflower with a sweet chili sauce. I ordered the Red Sky Classic Shrimp n Grits. Honestly there was nothing classic about this dish. It wasn't really a finish of pico de gallo it was definitely heavy on the pico. There were plenty of shrimp and grits but the taste of the salsa type sauce took away from the classic dish. The rest of the dinner party ordered the specials. I noticed over cooked asparagus ( limpy and brown). Hubby ordered the chicken and goat. Not sure if the chicken got eaten by the goat but the dish was more like a Mac and cheese dish with tiny bits of chicken(see pic). The best part about the whole night were the dessert beignets. The order comes with four beignets sitting on a bed of chocolate. We left our credit card at the restaurant and contacted them to check on it. We ordered lunch, beet salad with chicken, it was amazing, chicken was flavorful, dressing delicious and the beets and cheese combo was spot on! This place didn't fill up my plate. So for me that was fine. However, if I was in a different state of mind, the smaller plates would have been disappointing. We dropped into NC Coast Grill and Bar for a drink while in Duck. The drink was so delicious and the view so inviting we decided we would stick around for dinner. At the suggestion of the person at our inn, we ordered the chefs board. This was an excellent suggestion and extremely large. I loved that we were able to sample a handful of menu items. We loved the ambiance of a cute rustic restaurant with a great view of the sound and an open kitchen. We started with the gumbo and crab dip which were botb fabulous. I had the lobster bomb with salt and vinegar fries which were all lovely. I appreciated the toasted/ buttered roll. My sister had the shrimp and grits which were absolutely phenomenal to me. We've been here a handful of times now and have always had a great experience. Excellent service and delicious food. Outside is beautiful for the sunset and inside is also nice with an open kitchen. About the same pricing as most of the restaurants in the area but you can count on the food being high quality. Crab dip is delicious, cocktails (especially the blood orange margarita) are great and we ordered the "underboard" which is their steamed seafood board and it was so good. Also have had the shrimp and grits dish twice over the years and both times it was great. Kid options came out with a large portion and we tasted the Mac and cheese which was very good. We've decided after having terrible meals elsewhere while we are here on vacation, we'll just keep coming back here instead. read more

Sat right down as soon as we arrived inside dining ..... outside was a 45 minute wait. When we got the table for two metal stools and a flat top on a pickle barrel?? Very uncomfortable.....when watching the cooks and staff nobody was wearing masks OR gloves...... We got the Chefs specialty board....45 per person.....but worth every penny...best decision we ever made. Everything on the board was a 10!!! While the lady Bartender was amazing....the food was not. Who puts PEPPERS in coleslaw? Answer: no one who knows how to cook. I had the fish and chips and it was so greasy and I couldnt even bite through it....its was so tough. Yay! Fried, greasy, fish jerky. The draft beer was warm and so was the canned beer (see photos). Yuck, bad food, warm beer, don't eat or drink here...but if you do, tip your sweet Columbian bartender. Only thing good about this place. read more

First of all, if you come here, pray Jackie is your server! She is excellent and knows how to make you feel welcome! We were torn when we came in for the second time because of a menu change as we haven't been here in 2 years. We decided to for with the chef's board and Jackie didn't tell us, said she would surprise us! She was right! Such a great server, I can't say enough! We had steak, salmon, oysters, crab cakes, ahi tuna, shrimp and grits, grilled veggies, a great coleslaw, grilled cauliflower, and pork shank. Well worth the money! I will be back here. Our group picked this place based on past experience and they were open plus the bonus of outdoor seating with a sunset on a beautiful Spring evening. This place has a nice menu with seafood, non seafood and vegan options. The cauliflower appetizer is delicious. The only bummer is no reservations between April 1-October 31. So you may have a wait for seating especially at busy times like around sunset. They have a nice selection of cocktails & beer/wine. All the food is delicious. The service was quick & friendly. What was really disappointing, were the Oysters - they were the size of a dime. Some shells looked they didn't even have any. Love this new addition to Duck! My sister lives here and recommended this place. We took the entire family and everyone loved it. Awesome atmosphere, love the decor, fans and ceilings. Love the view, on the water for a pretty sunset. The food was fantastic. From apps to dessert. Also the cocktails were amazing! The Archer was a gin martini I loved with sour mix and habanero pepper gave it a nice burn. The espresso martini was amazing also. The service was fantastic.. our waitress was a sweetheart and the owner/chef was very attentive and giving us suggestions. For food We had: 1. Ahi tuna martini appetizer, with avocado salad. Soooooo damn good. 2. Chowder soup.. delicious! The gumbo was good too. 3. Salmon entree, topped with pistachio, and with polenta and squash. I LOVED the salmon, cooked perfectly still a tad rare inside. Amazing! 4. Pork chop was huge, and tasty. My husband loved it. 5. Fish tacos my father loved, and so did my mom! 6. Mac n cheese was killer delicious... I loved how it's a side item $4, I'm picky about Mac and this was sooo cheesy and delicious. Cheesecake in a jar was great for dessert. Small portions which I appreciated after a huge dinner. The prices were perfect.. nothing over $30, most dishes were low $20's. The presentation of the food was beautiful, and tasted even better. Duck is a tiny town packed with some pretty spectacular restaurants and shops. We wanted to find a place for lunch and I was craving one thing: anything seafood! Luckily I found it in a bowl of clams and a plate of fish tacos. The Pescado street tacos were pretty incredible. They use the fish of the day, which I think was mahi mahi when we went, come with a nice slaw, guacamole and a few other sauces/toppings that made them great. It was either 2 or 3 tacos for like 16 which isn't terrible. My fiance got the Fig and the Pig pulled pork sandwich and WOW, okay that was really amazing. I still loved my order more because like I said, anything seafood, but his was so tasty. It had brie and fig jam on it and the flavors together... my mouth is watering just typing this up. It came with really crispy thin fries that I stole way too many of. We started off with a dozen of the steamed clams. I loved them, but they really are just plain steamed clams that come with a side of butter and cocktail sauce, so if you prefer a nice wine or oil sauce, these might not be for you. Oh! Cocktails! What would a lunch on vacation be without them? I got the suckleberry and loveeeeed it: vodka cocktail that was lemony and was made with homemade blackberry syrup. I was actually pretty impressed with not just how good it was but the size of the drink. Am I too used to NYC drinks costing more and being half the size? Besides the food and drinks, this spot is right on the water. After lunch we took a walk down the pier and enjoyed the views for a bit. If it's nice out and not too hot, try to grab a table on the back deck! read more

Went here to celebrate my anniversary. Waited over an hour to be seated. We ordered the chefs board and were told there was meat and asked for it to either be substituted or just removed if that wasn't a possibility as both my husband and I are pescatarian. The food arrived after over an hour with the meat still on the board. We asked the waiter if it was the meat and he said no, even though there is a large bone. It was in fact tomahawk steak. We then found bacon on the oysters. Extremely disappointed that the wait staff does not know what is in the dishes especially when guests have dietary restrictions. There was no offer to remake the meal without meat. Also, there were spiders falling from the ceiling into our food and drinks. My husband had two spiders land on him during the meal and we ended up having to ask for our dessert to go because we were so grossed out. I stopped by 4 times opening week and got a pretty good flow for this new casual fresh place which still has to work out some service kinks, but the food was excellent. I have no doubt that when the owner gets his pick of talented trained staff, there won't be issues. More on that at the end. The FOOD! There are plenty of options on both the dinner and lunch menu for various palettes and dietary restrictions. Some standouts were the Chorizo & Crab Camarones, Kilt-Less Salmon, Fish Tacos, Mexican Poutine and Gochujang Cauliflower. I also tried the Tastefully Fit Bowl with fish of the day and it was very fresh, if not a little bland and a little smaller than expected. With more sauce and size I'd be happy. We also tried the Bulgogi Steak Stack (their take on a steak sandwich) from the lunch menu which had excellent flavor, but the beef had a lot of tough bits to it. Not super tender through each bite. The burger was okay. We had two different versions of fries while we were there - the first few days they had shoe string fries and later in the week they had traditionally cut fries. So I'm not sure what they will stick with. The thin ones had a nice subtle salt and vinegar flavor. Could use a larger portion of either. Both were good. Tried the Tikka Massala Grilled Cheese which was another great lunch option. Very cheesy with a fantastic Peruvian green dipping sauce. The mac and cheese, dare I say, had too much cheese. I'm thinking most kids would love it, though. We also had the Flourless Chocolate Tarte which was great. COCKTAILS were good, but it's clear they were still getting into the groove on those. Every time I saw them served over the week we'd see the glass and garnish change a bit. They have an adult milkshake drink, which I think would be decent if made as described, (shaken hard with fresh poured cream), but it was quickly shaken with only a couple half-n-half coffee creamers dumped in. The Bloody Mary was nothing special. The Mojito was excellent with either Basil or Mint. Cocktails are $12, but you can also get other basic drinks for less. There were 6 beers on drafts which were all very good. Be nice to have double that number on tap since NC has so many local options to choose from. Loved the bartenders! Very friendly and attentive for both drink and food service. The building is beautiful inside. Wide open. You'll be able to see the sunset from any seat in the house. In the summer it looks like you will have two tiers of decks to choose from and a lower lawn area to play some yard games. It's a very beautifully constructed place and they made the most out of a small lot. Duck needed a place like this and it is a welcome addition. On the servers, we weren't really happy with the service Thanksgiving week, but they had just opened and its clear a new restaurant is not going to have it's pick of staff this time of year. One server was just kind of indifferent. The other was super friendly but still wasn't attentive with drink orders and making sure the delivered meals had everything on the plate that was supposed to be there. Was visiting the area and came here at 5:30 on a Thu, 2 adults/1 toddler and was sat right away. Pros: - The NC Oysters were unique and very good - Ambiance/Decor was modern and the open kitchen was pretty cool. - Eating Duck is usually a hit or miss for me, but when in Duck, you get the Duck. This place definitely knows their stuff and the entree was amazing Con's: - The Old Fashioned was supposed to have Demerara syrup, but they accidentally used the jalapeño simple syrup. I drank it anyways though. - They were out of kids menus, which made entertaining the little one a little harder than expected. - I couldn't really get a vibe on the server, was friendly at times but also seemed a bit annoyed at other times Overall if I am ever in the area again, I would definitely return. read more
