Got here 5 minutes before 11 and the Lord was on my side! There was only One last golden biscuit so I told my boyfriend to get a lunch sandwich...lol I ordered the pastrami, egg and Swiss. Seriously the best pastrami I've had! It being the last biscuit in the house made it taste that more delicious! Neal's deli was voted Indys best deli in the county and now I know why! Yeah, you can get a sub in a lot of places but it won't be a Neal's Deli sub. Really good eats and part of the Neal family food dynasty.

Good, friendly deli. Excellent options. The corned beef is incredible. Had it on a fresh pretzel roll and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while. The place is a little pricey ($4 for a small portion of fruit salad), but otherwise, it's a little gem of a place in Carrboro. read more

Neal's is always great! We usually have the Italian with hot peppers (the pickled peppers are a nice counterpoint to the funky salami). The Muffaletta is great too (a really great olive salad on there). Recently I tried the marinated tuna sandwich and it was soooooo good- they don't always have it but when they do I highly recommend getting it. Their sandwiches aren't huge but they are filling and they always have a nice balance of flavors, the pickled green tomato on the side is also awesome. They sell Zapp's chips and great bottled drinks. I've tried some of their sides and they're decent but the sandwiches really steal the show! read more

Way overpriced. The sandwiches don't come with a side and they don't fill you up. However, they are great sandwiches.

Today I hosted a business lunch for 6 people and called Neal's an hour ahead. While I am sure they could have used more notice, they bagged and labeled all of the lunches and got all of the orders perfect. Most of my co-workers were from Raleigh, Durham, and Richmond and had never had Neal's. It was a special treat for all of us and they were all very complimentary. What probably impressed me the most was when I asked for tomatoes on a sandwich and they said "Sorry, we don't have tomatoes. They are out of season." Some may have been taken aback, but to me, it reiterates the emphasis on quality that Neal's displays. I really like that they take so much pride in their product. Check them out. I recommend the Reuben and chocolate chip cookies! read more

Neal's was at Cochon Butcher last week in New Orleans and had a pastrami sandwich there! Doesn't hold a candle to your Pastrami!

A little tricky to find, but I am not from Carrboro. I had to go around the corner to find. Parking is not great, but again I am not that knowledgeable of the area. Smells great when you walk in and service was very friendly and helpful. Ordered the turkey and avocado sandwich. Delicious and bread was perfect. They included some piece of tomato that maybe was brined and it was very tasty. Next time I am going to have to try the pastrami. read more

I recently made the change from vegetarian to meat eater again and Neal's Deli happened to be the first place I ordered sausage from. I got the sausage egg and cheese biscuit...simply amazing. I love this place...the biscuits are great, the sandwiches are great, but my favorite are those pickled tomatoes that come with your order. I usually get the vegetarian sub thing, but I also like the Manhattan. The sides are delicious. Can't go wrong. I've never eaten lunch at Neal's, but I have eaten breakfast several times. The menu may look a bit limited, but everything on it is exceptionally good. The best part is the biscuits, which are seriously to die for. They are not too buttery (which can sometimes ruin it) but are very fluffy and have just the right amount of crunch on the outside. The way they do eggs is pretty cool and the bacon and sausages are very flavorful and fresh. The prices are pretty good considering how many local ingredients they use. My only gripe with Neal's is that their orange juice and apple juice bottles are TINY but pretty pricey. Other than that, can't go wrong with Neal's for breakfast. Skip some of the overpriced breakfast options in Chapel Hill and drag yourself here. You won't be sorry! read more

i love Neal's! everything is fresh and put together well, with total culinary mastery. the pastrami is sublime, silky and rich with flavor... so much so that i can't bring myself to get anything else when i'm going to eat there or close by (before it cools). i also like the muffaletta (sp?) , italian sub, hot dogs (pretzel roll!) and every soup i've ever tried (the chicken noodle will cure what ails ya). you get the most delish pickle with every order, and i covet mine, hoping the folks i go with don't want theirs. just go to Neal's. read more

I walked into Neil's at around 730 this morning (Thurs) to order breakfast. Been there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and got there at 11:05 and was told they were no longer serving breakfast, breakfast service having ended at 11. No problem. Went back today. Looked over the menu. Ordered two eggs over medium with bacon and biscuit and was curtly told they only do eggs "one way-scrambled straight through" -whatever that means. I politely declined and went to the breakfast place next door. I'm glad I didn't have to wait in the customary line I've heard about because I would have been quite frustrated. There's no disclosure on the menu that there's only one way or the highway for the way eggs are cooked. I would rate Neal's as "precious." read more

My only problem with Neal's is that it's so hard to decide which classic sandwich or special to have. Or to choose between the fantastic sides. Neal's is fantastic, and definitely a favorite of the locals. One of those spots I didn't find out about until 2 years living in the area... even though I frequent the area. When I finally tried the pastrami, I understood why it's kept a secret.... absolutely delicious. And apparently they run out of biscuits by 9am on some mornings, but I have not experienced that yet. Only been twice, it's a bit pricey... and their biscuits are good.... just not worth the price all the timeeee, only for the pastrami :) Still fantastic food!! While in Carrboro today I dined at Neil's. Thoughtful, playful, approachable lunch. It totally exceeded my expectations.

The hotdog!!!! Me and a friend went in and both got a hot dog with sauerkraut, which was served on a pretzel roll. I was a bit skeptical about the pretzel roll I was worried that it would ruin the hot dog but to my surprise it was soft and delightful. It was a nice hot dog lunch. I would recommend this place and I would go back. read more

I've been several times and am not sure what the hype is. The portions are small (very un-deli like) and they charge a LOT. I think it's the only deli around and with no completion they do well. I hope someone opens a real deli in Carrboro soon. read more

I love Neal's Deli! The absolute best deli food. These folks do everything right. I've had breakfast and lunch and have even taken sandwiches home to be eaten later for supper. All great! Neals has been a favorite for some time, and it is one of those distinctively Carrboro establishments and a standout among many excellent local joints! It is a deli, and the sandwiches are fabulous. My "must have" is the muffaletta (meat or veg). It is the best I've had outside New Orleans. The creative, fresh and delicious veggie sides are always on point, and those pickles...the pickled green tomatoes are so much more than a garnish! Breakfast at Neals is a favorite splurge. You can't go wrong with anything on that breakfast menu. Order the specials! You won't be disappointed! Even my pooch loves Neals!! Seating is limited and takes some time to get your food, so it was crowded around 2 on a Wednesday. I feel very mixed with my lunch there earlier this week.
