What an experience. I am still in disbelief. I went in for a few simple cornrow braids and they were all lopsided and different sizes. They were so lopsided that I (reluctantly) had to ask her to start over halfway through. I guess I made the mistake of trusting they could part hair evenly. The lady kindly redid my hair (if I'm paying for a service, shouldn't look acceptable?), but complained about it to her coworkers in French. Yes, I know French and the whole time they trash talked. The owner is an absolute joke. She argues with people over the phone and is unprofessional on all levels. Professionalism = F Salon Cleanliness = D Overall Experience = F I think this place probably does a better job at the small ghana braids or locs. I am not one to leave bad reviews, but if it will help a person or two to save their money, then why not? read more

Tuesday, February 4th was a nightmare, to say the least, and I sincerely hope and pray this owner takes the time to read this review and really re-evaluate how unprofessional she treated me and my mother. I am 9 months pregnant (in great health) but very pregnant and soon to deliver my daughter. I came here with my mother who accompanied me for the obvious reason of being so far alone and she so kindly drove. First impressions are your last sometimes and when we walked in we felt so unwelcome. No one greeted us or looked up. I, on the other hand, was happy to be there so I waved and said hello (with a smile). The owner Kendall said; "do you have an appointment?" I answered; "yes ma'am, I do" and she with no expression or excitement to meet me a new client said: "okay". I felt like I was a burden to here but we continued. She asked what did I want to be done, I replied, knotless braids and began to share the color ideas I had in mind. I shared with her three different pictures of ladies that all visited her shop. One beauty I shared with whom I knew and used her by name as a reference along with her picture. The talk at this point was about color choices. She looked at me strangely while it is obvious I'm pregnant, I said, yes very pregnant and my child being asymmetric I have an emergency induction this Friday the 7th, and introduced my mom and raved that she will be here for a just in case moment. With no hesitations the owner says you still want your hair braided (my jaw drops) as if she was too busy to service me. To continue, I finally sat down and as we go over color, I told her I would like it to pass my bra strap and we decided on a color with the help of her workers. Who was getting chewed out right in front of me. The entire vibe was uncomfortable. The color came and it was too red and asked my mom to look and we were very nice and asked if we could blend differently without the red color, please. Kendall was hot, very upset, gave us a look, and got really snappy with my mom (a guest who wasn't invading in any way, she was just helping me choose). I couldn't believe how disgustingly disrespectful she was to my own mother. My mom was applauded. She and I are much alike and keeping things professional is something we take pride in. As the color was finalized with one of the stylists who was a sweetheart. They got started. Kendall came by and apologized for how she was treating me and expressed her frustration with her workers (in front of her workers- awkward again). It was so utterly embarrassing for those ladies. Kendall was going off on them and made clear she was having a bad day. I accepted the apology and told her I hope the day gets better. My mom got one too. Fast forward, there was so much chaos in the shop. It was like a movie. I couldn't believe it. Then, here comes the entire end to my experience, Kendall came by and said I need to grab the money because she was leaving. I said okay, and she gave me a price after totaling the added hair that I was prepared to pay for and the price was much higher than expected. I'm pretty good with numbers, I began to calculate on my own. Sharing yet another screenshot picture, but this time the prices on her website. I ran down the amount, along with deduction of the $40 deposit that I already paid online and gave her the total I calculated. She looked at me in absolute disbelief and went off on me (again). Lord help me at this point. I am so over this place, very pregnant and ready to go. She was like, that's wrong (very direct), argued me down and told me you got waist length and this is the price you owe. Now mind you I never discussed waist-length or mentioned it. I did say pass the bra strap before we got started (did that slip away). She yelled at me, and my mother too. It was so loud and she was talking reckless. She was like you showed me pictures of what you wanted and they all had waist-length hair so that's what you got. I interjected and said I was showing the color and maybe there was a miscommunication about the length because we did not discuss. At this point , she was so irate my mother interjected and was so confused as to why she was yelling, arguing, and speaking to me pregnant and all like she was (as she should). When I tell you I have never seen someone not take ownership for their nasty behavior. Then she went off on my mom, told her she and I need God. And God will deal with us (mouth drops) ..using his name in vein is unacceptable. Her own workers were trying to help us out all of which were consoling and telling Kendall who would not listen to stop. The problem wasn't money at all, I brought cash and was prepared to spend for the service but it was customer service, clarity, and the poor communication of the owner. Third time going to this braiding salon. The main reason I return is because of how quickly my hair is done. My first visit I got waist length box braids and I was done in 4 hours. The braiding is neat and pretty. Every visit I have had good customer service and Kendall makes sure she checks the braids as they are being done to ensure this is the style you wanted. I have went to several stylists in Houston, where you show them a picture of what you want and you end with the total opposite! Happy Customer ! read more

I am very upset with the owner of this shop Neat Pretty Braids Kendall. My daughter which is 9 months pregnant she went into the shop by a referral from a friend of hers. I was very unhappy with the owners attitude and the way she treated my daughter. Now mind you my daughter is 9 months pregnant. The works that was doing her was halfway done when the owner came up to my daughter and was asking for her to pay. Now mind you I'm sitting in the front with my daughter other baby I heard the commotion in the back so I got up to go see why she was screaming at my daughter at that time I saw tears coming down my daughter's eyes and she was continuing to yell and scream at her. Now mind you my daughter is 9 months pregnant getting ready to have her baby on this Friday. You know when my daughter came into the shop she had a picture that she showed Kendall, and the picture was to show her the color of the hair and the size braids, then Kendall showed the worker the picture but never told the worker the length so the worker done the length according to the picture, and the length on the picture the hair came all the way past her butt. So my daughter was trying to explain to Kendall that is not the length that she asked for.. wow then the owner of the shop Kendall went off on her. When I heard my daughter trying to explain to her that's not what she asked for, and she was crying, and I got upset about what Kendall was saying to her and as a mother witnessing how she was talking to my daughter. I was very upset and I told Kendall that is not acceptable in the way you are talking to my daughter, and then she went off on me, then we are going back and forth with words it had got so heated until one of the workers her to stop then all of the other worker kept telling her to stop talking stop talking to my daughter like that, one worker actually got down on her knees and her to stop. I felt so bad for my daughter and to see her crying was unbearable.. after all of that the owner left the shop the workers continue to do my daughter's hair. They done a very very good job and she paid her what the owner ask for. You no readers it was never about the money, it was the owner attitude, and how she handle a pregnant woman at 9 months. My daughter was so upset still when she got home and all she could do is lay down and trying not to think about what had just happened now this is really hurtful for me to have to get online and express how we felt for the first time coming into the shop and the respect that we got was uncalled for. I went in for jumbo braids with a scheduled appt yesterday @ 8:05am. My overall experience was horrible which I was really surprised by bc of so many good reviews. When I first walked in the owner Kendall asked how could they help me and I stated I had an 8:05am appt which I felt as a business owner you should know when and who u have appts scheduled for. I didn't let it bother me bc they sat me right down and got started. However, what I did mind was it took 6hrs to braid what turned out to be large braids instead of jumbo braids. I had a total of 4 girls work on my head. My hair looks really good so they definitely do quality work there which is why I gave 2 stars. I heard so many people calling in and coming in within that 6hrs with complaints of how they were treated and spoken to but I just thought oh these are a few instances until it happened to me. So anywho by the 4th hr I had 2 girls in my head, one braiding to the scalp and the other finishing the ends. I had to leave by 1pm to get my kids so I mentioned this to make sure they would be done by the time I needed to leave seeing as how I was told it would only be 4hrs to complete my hair. By the 5th hr the scalp girl finished (by the way I heard her tell another girl it was large not jumbo) and I stated I need to leave by 1p and asked the girl finishing the ends would she be done by then. She assured me well b4 1pm she would be done. 12:15pm I asked how much longer reminding her of my deadline and she said she had 4 left to braid, by 1pm she still had the same 4 braids left to do so now I'm hot bc she kept lying and they still have to snip stragglers and dip the hair in hot water to finish. I asked Kendall if I could pay now so by the time they finish I can just get up and leave. Well I showed her the pic of the jumbo braids I wanted from her instagram and said this is what I wanted but since the braids look so good I'm ok with what I got but next time can I get these. She pops off at the mouth saying whose to say they aren't the same. I said me by looking at the same picture u're looking at right now. She says that's funny bc the same peep who did the girl in the pics hair did mines and if I look I can c her hair is longer than mines and bc my hair is so short, taking her 2 fingers making an inch, it wouldn't work. I said what does length have to do with the size of the braid when ur adding hair and though my hair is natural when straightened it comes to my shoulders so don't try to play me. Then she tries to give some bs excuse of they try do the best size for the customer so it doesn't b too heavy. I'm like whatever let me just pay, so before I hand her my card I ask about the price saying it should b $176 bc I paid the $40 deposit online, the jumbo is $180 and $6 a bag for hair as they used 6bags. She says it's $200 for jumbo braids and I said that's not what ur booking site says so I showed her the screenshot I took and she says I must have taken the pic a long time ago. I said no ma'am take a look at this time stamp as I took this last Sat when I booked my appt and paid the $40 deposit online. She says well it's $200 and if u look at the description in the pic we used 7 bags for that girls hair. I said I did read the description so I was prepared to pay for 7 bags but not an extra $20 for the braids. Ain't that some shit how the price change when u come into the salon to get ur hair done, that's some bs. Oh by the way they also charge a $5 fee for paying with card in the salon so I paid $195 in store and $40 online so a total of $235.. $25 more than I planned on spending. Then she ask me if I'm ok bc i seem a little and didn't finish her statement. I said I'm good just a little irritated bc I need to get my kids. She gone say well Sat are busy so next time come Mon-Thurs. If i have an appt what does it matter what day it is smdh. Don't blame ur customers for ur shortcomings, I mean really. I have had my hair done 3 times at Neat Pretty Braids and have received NEAT PRETTY BRAIDS each and every time! Kendall the shop owner and all the of the lovely ladies that work there are very professional and extremely talented and NEVER disappoint when it comes to delivering PERFECTION with each and every style I have received. I found the shop on instagram and feel in love with their work instantly just by scrolling through the many pictures. The website is very detailed and has all of the pricing information for each and every style! Kendall the shop owner is always nice and welcoming and makes sure each and every style is done just to the customers likely... She is very honest and will let you know what will work and what will look good on you! She never lets any of her customers leave without looking FLAWLESS! Neat Pretty Braids is by far the BEST BRAIDING SHOP IN HOUSTON! They also sell beautiful African style clothing. I make sure to pick up the latest fashions every time I come through! The one word I would use to describe this place and their work is AMAZING. This was my first time getting braids and I was ignorant to what I wanted. I booked online and chose the wrong style. When I walked in, the owner, Kendall, consulted with me and told me that the style I chose online was the wrong style. In actuality, the style I wanted was going to take 12 hours and my appointment was late in the afternoon. However, they were professional and still gave me superb service. Each of the stylists took their time with me and made sure every braid was perfect. They kept asking if I was ok during the long process and also kept me laughing through small talk. Everyone was friendly and professional. My hair looks absolutely amazing and I can't wait until I'm able to mix and match my styles. I have found my new summer hair style and Neat and Pretty braids is my all time brand new go to shop for braids. Thank you Ladies! If I had to choose one word to describe Neat Pretty Braids, I would use AWESOME!!!! After trying a few other braiding salons and not liking my hair most of the time, I stumbled upon Neat Pretty Braids as I was Instagram trolling late at night lol. I instantly fell in love with their work. I made an appointment with my now favorite Kendall. Ladies she did not disappoint. Her talent and customer service with me was exceptional. She knows her stuff when it comes to braiding and I'm talking ALL styles. I was going to her before she had her current salon. I've been a customer for almost three years now and have never had a problem with her or her staff. Needless to say, I have tried many, many, many styles, some of which she recommended. I love her to pieces. She is fun, feisty, and fierce, my kind of stylist. Kendall is all about giving her customers what they want, but I will warn you, she is totally honest about hairstyles. If it's something that will not work she will let you know before you spend your money. Now if you decided to go against her advice then that is on you honey, lol. She's always making sure the other stylists are doing the correct braiding technique. She's constantly walking around to each customer to see how it is going. I think people mistake her being up front for being rude and that is certainly not the case. I have personally never encountered any rudeness with her or her staff. Now that doesn't mean that you can be rude to her and not expect to get read lol because she can go there. My other favorite at the salon is the lovely Alma. She has taken care of me in Kendall's absence. She is very sweet and kind. Ladies if you haven't tried them give them a chance. This lady in this shop is really nice, UNTIL you tell her that she did your hair crooked. She did two braids on my daughter's hair and when my daughter said that it was crooked, her whole attitude changed. She got very short and irritated and said that it was because my daughter was not holding her head still....making excuses for not doing a good job. Watch out, they will ask if you speak French, because they will talk about you in your face in French and want to make sure you don't understand. I feel like I'm repeating what a lot of other reviewers said, but it's true - they really do neat and pretty braids. I came in for a quick consultation before having them done and the owner is upfront about everything AND all the information you need is posted on her website. It makes sense that the cost is based on what you want and how your hair is. I have serious thinning issues in the front and they worked it out beautifully. I am the most tender-headed person I know (I don't even like coming out my own hair when it's natural) and I am looking forward to going back because the pain was reasonable (let's be real, there is always going to be some pain) and the tension is just right (the braids look good, my scalp isn't pulling, and I could actually bear to touch my head a little immediately afterward so I could tie it up and sleep without sitting up). My only possible complaint might be that the shop is incredibly busy (but again, the owner warned me that Fridays and Saturday were crazy busy) and it look longer than I expected to get done. But I love my braids, and a woman literally stopped me in Kohl's yesterday to ask where I had them done. read more

Wish I could rate a zero! The sad part here is my experience was over the phone before I even stepped foot in the shop! I'm about to go on a cruise and really wanted some braids so my hair wouldn't be an issue. So I was searching several shops in Houston because braids is not a style I frequently wear, and as I'm searching several shops one of them happen to be Neat Pretty Braids. Let's also say by me having so many web pages up I made the appointment with Neat Pretty Braids inadvertently thinking it was with a shop that was open until 11pm. Anywho the appointment was made and today 5/3/17 a day prior to the scheduled appointment I get a call from the owner Kendall whom asked me about pushing my appointment up 2 hours as I see she has called a previous customer with the same scenario as well. Her reasoning was because she only trust herself or one other stylist to produce my request of Ghana braids. I advised her that was not possible for me due to my work schedule and I questioned a refund(my error) because I didn't see the no refund policy more than likely because I was under the impression I was on a different website. At this point she becomes very irate saying I'm not listening to her and we make it very hard to provide customer service. Hmmmm and why is this hard because your website displayed a time slot available for a service I desired but you wish to be traveling home instead. Well, I suggest you fix the glitch with your webpage and these conversations would not be necessary. For you to be business owner whom needs consumers to have a business and make the statement "we make it hard to provide customer service" it's a very sad and unprofessional way to speak to a potential client. And I did say potential because I will not step foot in an establishment whom doesn't appreciate the customer whom allows them to even exist as a business. She also goes on to say obviously you need my services and like my braids as if she's the only braider in Houston. As she began her disconnecting irate rant she says be here on time or you may not receive service! Now why would I come give my time and business that lacks customer service. I hope that deposit is beneficial for you Kendall because until you understand the consumer is the reason the lights turn on in your shop you will always have reviews as such. I will not refer anyone to such an unprofessional establishment. I'm so upset to have clicked on the wrong braiding salon. You may provide Neat Pretty Braids but let's not leave out Uninviting and Unprofessional Customer Service. It takes two positives to make it Grow! read more
