Small salon in a nondescript strip mall about 25 or so minutes from Downtown Houston. I like that they have convenient hours (I had a Sunday event & they were able to get me an appointment for that day) & plenty of parking. Most everyone was/seemed friendly. I wanted to get my hair styled for an event that day (the reason I was in Houston). I had pictures to show my stylist of what I was looking for & she gave me pricing for the different options. I went with an updo even though the price seemed a little steep. In the end, she styled my hair nicely but it wasn't what I was looking for. She did explain (without prompting, I never said anything to her) that I had too much hair to accomplish the style I wanted. I only wish she had communicated that in the beginning so I could tell her that she was free to chop off length (when I booked the appointment, I said I wanted a cut & style) or I could have chosen another option. In the end, she worked hard on the style & it was a nice updo (even if not what I wanted) & she ended up giving me $10 off the quoted price (again with no prompting or complaining on my part), so I still was pretty happy with my experience here. I wish I had more time because I was interested in their digital perms, which seem to be their specialty here. They seem very knowledgeable about hair (especially Asian hair) so definitely give them a try! read more

It's a weird experience. For the entire 4 hours I was there to my semi permanent hair straightening, she kept repeating that my hair was so damaged and tangled and dry. The first couple times I was like I know, I'm working on it. But she said it almost ten times. I got weird out for sure. My friends all like them tho and had great result. I love trying out new salons twice a month to get a good wash and blow out and Jessica's Hair studio almost had me falling asleep because the head scratch they did was so relaxing. The wash was amazing and was about 30 min long I was completely relaxed. AVOID!!! Horrible customer service. Called ahead to make an appointment two days before. We are going on a trip tomorrow morning and this was the only time I was available. i arrived and was told that all stylists were booked up and I had to wait 40+ minutes. I mentioned we had an appointment and was told that someone booked OVER our appointment. The receptionist also confirmed that we were booked first..... I understand things happen but what is unacceptable is we didn't receive a courtesy phone call or anything to alert us that we'd been bumped before making the long drive to the salon. my suggestion, pick somewhere else that values and respects customers time. I went in for a consultation and she was very honest about how straight she could get it because I did have some not so healthy hair. I did go through with it and I am so happy with the results. My hair has never looked better, healthier and straight. It has saved me so much time and no straightening iron!!! I used to flat iron my hair daily, this is such a freedom. I would absolutely not recommend this place. The people are really nice, but the salon is not sanitary. Their stylist tools were not cleaned - as in they use the same tools on different people without washing them. Jessica was supposed to touch up my roots, but the color is completely different. She also never came over to monitor the coloring process, and had her assistant complete the task. When they washed my hair, they also didn't place a towel on my face, so water was splashed on me twice - to which she used a towel to wipe my face (and make up) off. The photo is a week after she touched up my roots. The color at the roots is not my actual hair - it's the color she thought matched the rest of my hair! The dye they use is low quality too - it made my scalp itchy. This place is not professional and not clean. I would not recommend coming here. read more

Fair warning, long post but want you to read the whole process and why Jessica is the person you should go see. If you're looking for a digiperm (digital perm), come see Jessica! I came upon the word digiperm 6 weeks ago and started researching like crazy on the procedure / results / maintenance. During the research I came upon a blogger who had a digiperm in the same hair length as mine and I loved it, it was exactly what I wanted (pic #1). I live in Austin and search for places that did digiperm but nothing came up with good reviews. Looked in Dallas and nothing 100% promising, so then I looked in Houston and came upon Jessica Hair Studio. After reading her reviews, I booked my appointment for a Sunday at 10am and drove 2.5 hours to get there. When I met Jessica, I told her up front that if she feels my hair won't work for digiperm or if it won't achieve the result I want in the picture (#1) then it was all good, I won't do the perm. She assess my hair dry and told me my hair is very frizzy and I did have a balayage 3 months ago. She asked if I dye my hair frequently as I will damage my hair a lot if I did the digiperm. I told her no as I only did it one time for fun and won't be maintaining it. She then washed my hair and assess it again as she was trimming/thinning out my hair as it was bottom heavy and the curls won't look good. She notice my hair already has curls in it and that it's drying very frizzy so she recommended I do Japanese hair straightening on the top half of my hair and digiperm on the bottom. I have faith in her and told her lets do it. The only chemical she used was a softener on my wet hair to open my hair cuticle. She said she's leaving the solution in longer on the top off to open it 70% and came back 10 mins later and did the rest of the hair to open the bottom cuticle up 30%. Waited 15 minutes and it was washed out. My hair was blow dried and the Japanese straightening was done on the top half of my hair. Literally, a small straightener, being run through my hair in small section. After, the rollers were put in the bottom of my hair and hooked up to the heating machine. Jessica said I will only be in the machine for 15 minutes as I only wanted loose big curls (pic #2). When the rolls were taken out, the curls were really prominent, I was pretty shocked (pic #3). Jessica saw my face and informed me that it won't stay like that. A neutralizer cream is now put into my hair and sat for another 15 mins and washed out. Tada! Process is done. Jessica ran a quarter size curl/no frizz/heat protectant cream in my hair and started blow drying to about 80% dry (about 5 mins) showing me how to scrunch and twirl my hair. Not going to lie, up until this point, I was still nervous what the result will turn out but after the blow dry, I LOVE MY HAIR! It turned out better than I imagined (pic #4). Really, Jessica knowledge of the hair and recommendation was why I moved forward with doing the digiperm. She made me feel at ease that she understood hair and know what she's doing. I'm day 2 into my digiperm, have not washed it and yes, I've brushed out the curl so it's not as curly as Pic #4 but it's now loose curls on the bottom. It looks way natural and all my co-workers complimented it the past two days. If you're want to do a digiperm, go see Jessica. She knows hair and will tell you if it will work or not. I will be back to see her in 6 months for a trim and probably another digiperm, maybe even going a little curlier. read more

This place is amazing!! I had been getting my hair straightened from another salon, and they used to put the chemical on my scalp which resulted in hair fall. I was very scared when I walked into this salon. Sandy took time and answered all my questions. She reassured me that she will not put chemical directly on my scalp. She mentioned that this theory standard procedure anyway. She showed extra care and reassured me in every step of the procedure. I got a digital perm and I am so happy with it. Jessica and Michelle were wonderful. The shop assistant (Jessie?) was sweet and responded to the shop's texts promptly when I asked for a reservation. You can pay via Zelle which is convenient. Jessica checked my hair and gave her honest opinion on how much needed to be cut and what perm style she thought was best. I had old highlights that dried out my hair ends so a lot needed to be cut, though I have fine hair that is easily damaged. The whole process took almost 4 hours but actually the time went by fairly quickly. As for the finished hair - WOW! It's soft and bouncy! Traditional perms end up with tight waves and the solution smell is strong. Digital perms work differently and my hair came out soft and the styling cream Jessica used gives a nice scent. After a whole year of no professional haircut, this was a wonderful makeover. Please support Jessica Hair Studio as they suffered so much from the shutdown last year, as with many small businesses. So I just got a digital perm by Jessica and I love it! First few things to know though, when you book an appointment you will need to make a $50 deposit to hold your reservation, then secondly you'll get charged an extra 5% if you pay with card- wished I would've known that beforehand. Lastly, if you get a digital perm, expect to spend AT LEAST 4 hours there- so I brought food and a charger. But they are also prepared for us as well, they have menus available for you to view of restaurants in the plaza if you want them to pick up food for you! Anywho, my appointment was 9:30 AM and I came just 5 minutes early. The receptionist was kind and had me sign in. It was then that she texted my stylist that I had arrived. Jessica was just a little late, not bad but she arrived just a bit after me. She put her stuff away then sat down with me to talk about what I wanted. She was very knowledgeable and knew which perm would or wouldn't work for the look I desired. I decided to go with a spiral digital perm because I wanted more curls closer to my roots and not just a body wave. Note, spiral costs an additional $85. I'll admit, I wasn't the best customer. 1) I was hesitant about letting them wash my hair because I hate getting it blow dried, but I gave in and let them because they wanted to make sure all product was out of my hair and that they know exactly what my hair was shampooed with. 2) I have A LOT of hair. I didn't even know. My hair's thin, but apparently I have a lot of hair! So at one point I had 3 people on my hair lol 3) I am unfortunately addicted to chapstick by stupidly forgot to bring some to the long session. When I finally got the nerve to ask, they allowed me to use their Vaseline! Lifesavers!! All in all, the ladies were super nice and caring! Jessica is amazing at what she does! I've been looking for a place to get digital perm, but haven't had much luck with Korean hair shops. I read some yelp reviews for a few places in Chinatown and was impressed with pictures of other customers who got digital perm done by Jessica. I called ahead and made an appointment about 3 days before. I prepared myself to be there for 4 hours as other reviewers had said. I arrived at the 2:30pm and I left at 7pm. Jessica was very friendly and she showed a picture of what she is thinking of doing for my hair first. Her assistant washed my hair. She put some treatment product in my hair and waited about 30 minutes before washing it out. Then Jessica gave me a haircut. I don't remember the exact step of everything, but eventually she started rolling my hair and connecting it to the wires for some heat. After 30 minutes of heat, they unrolled my hair and rolled it again without heat. When it was finally done, they washed my hair, then blowed dried it. I'm very pleased with the final result! It was pretty expensive compared to what I paid for digital perm in the past, but I would definitely come back. For hair cut and digital perm, I paid total of about $240. I contacted them asking about the Japanese Hair Straightening and they where nice and answered the few questions I had, we scheduled my appointment, they took my deposit over the phone, and a day before my appointment I received a reminder text. Highlight: Asian perm in a Western style, and amazing service! I'm from an Asian suburb of LA where there are salons on every street corner that offer straight and digital perms. Unfortunately, most of these salons know how to do the Asian-style perm, but don't know how to style hair with a more Western-beachy-curl look. Jessica did my perm, and really understands each individual's hair (for example, mine is super thick and voluminous, which is not typical for Asians). Trimmed off the split ends and did a great job styling and perming my hair without overheating it, and explaining to me what was happening and how to take care of it after. Eric did a deep conditioning treatment for me 2 months later, and also really knows his stuff. He's also trained as a masseuse, which he throws in with the deep conditioning. It's awesome. Bottom line--I go out of my way to schedule hair appointments when I'm in Houston instead of when I'm home in LA. read more

Simply amazing. I didn't even know about Japanese straighting before. Found out on you tube and started searching immediately. Found this place with nice reviews and did the consultation about a week later. Arrived promptly at 9am and was told they would get started soon. Less than 2 minutes I was taken to the shampoo bowl for the first of about 5 washes. It was pretty early so, and I didn't get my coffee on the way because I didn't want to be late. Not only did they have coffee, they served it to me perfectly. By noon ish I was getting hungry and mentioned it to Katherine, thinking she'd give me a recommendation. She did even more, provided me with multiple menus of restaurants in the area, called in, paid for and picked up my lunch. My final rinse was precisely at 6 hours and the final blow dry was about 10 minutes, with both Eric and Katherine working at the same time. I had to rush out and get cash, since I didn't even have to leave for lunch. So for 48 hours you can NOT pin, clip or wet the hair. So I followed the rules and now my life has so drastically changed. It's amazing. I can shower and get dressed after a workout in 30 minutes, with freshly washed hair! I've shampoo it 3 times since last Friday and it's been easy. I haven't flat ironed it yet as its straight enough just with the quick blow dry. I find myself walking fast, just to have the wind catch my hair to make it bounce. Simply amazing. The product and expertise of Eric and Katherine is top notch. Add to that the 5 star level of customer service, is why I give them 5 stars. read more

So I'm going to have to be honest, I've never had a digital perm or any sort of perm in the States let alone Houston, so I don't know how the local standards are. However, having a straight, digital, volume perms my whole life in Korea, I'm going to have to give it low ratings on my recent digital perm. The pros: Jessica and all the other staff members are friendly, which is why I gave them two stars although one of the staff members burnt my scalp two times. The cons: For the digital perm itself, I got a straight on the root of my head and then curls on the bottom of hair (this I guess is a more complicated method that is not offered in any regular salon, more so with an Asian demographic salon, so yes it does take a little more technique and experience). For the root you have to do a volume straight because otherwise your hair will stick FLAT on your face which is exactly how it turned out. For the curls, my hair is very burnt and are splitting on the ends :'( and my hair is pretty strong and thick... I'm pretty sad because of my hair and now this will add to my phobia or trying out treatments in the States read more

I got my digital perm done yesterday at Jessica Hair Studio! Words cannot explain how happy I am with the results of my perm and the excellent customer service I received by Jessica, the owner, and all the stylists (Eric, Anna, and Linda). Jessica made sure I understood what a digital perm was and she asked me what I wanted my curls to look like. Another customer was just finishing her digital perm as I was waiting for my appointment time, and Jessica called me over to show me what a digital perm looked like wet and how to dry it to style as desired. I was slightly anxious about getting my hair permed at first, but seeing at how gorgeous it turned out and how easy it was to get it that way...I was hooked. Jessica devoted a lot of time on my hair and not once did I feel neglected. She trimmed my hair and bangs, applied conditioner to soften my hair, put on the rollers, and applied naturalizer at the end before the final wash. The other stylists assisted Jessica with my treatment, but she did the important part and her assistants frequently checked to make sure all of the rollers were heated. After the naturalizer was washed out and my hair was ready to be dried and styled, I was absolutely PLEASED with how my hair kept the curls and Jessica and Eric made sure to show me how to style it. I've been coming to Jessica's for about 9 years, starting from when she was in Chinatown. I have very fine but curly, wavy hair and her cut and style always fits my face correctly and after this time she knows what I like and recommends changes she knows I would appreciate. I wanted to tame my unruly hair in the Houston humidity so I did a few Brazilian blowouts with her salon. They lasted for about 3-4 months. After she moved to the current location, they changed to a new straightening product similar to the Brazilian but much, much better. It last at least twice as long as a Brazilian blowout (or even longer for me) and does not damage my hair, AND no toxic smell.
