This is a true "hole in the wall" restaurant that I found by accident while close by. It is a Chinese restaurant that also serves fried chicken. Nee Hao is located next to a gas station and parking is available in front of the restaurant but can be crowded during lunch time. Their business is split between to go orders and dine in. Nothing fancy here. I decided to try the fried chicken and ordered at the counter the 3 piece special for $8.75 that comes with ham fried rice and an egg roll. Bottled drinks are $2 extra. Pretty affordable, right? The food was delivered less than 10 minutes later to my table in a styrofoam container. After opening it there was a large amount of food in there. The chicken looked great along with the very large serving of fried rice. The chicken wasn't completely hot along with the rice. Some parts of the chicken were barely warm while others were hot. It was edible but would have been sooo much better hot. Ditto on the ham fried rice. The egg roll was hot and delicious, I would have easily given this meal a 4 if the food temp was higher along with the fantastic value of the meal. Perhaps their Chinese food is good too as long as it is served hot,

Food is great! The portions are amazing as well. The service is pretty fast and they also offer drive through. Ambiance is just ok but its not really one of those restaurants.

Prices are a little bit higher but not by much

I've gone back a second time & they still are my go-to Chinese food place. The amount of good food they give you, for the price, is top notch. I spent $25 on a chicken plate (3 wings, ham fried rice & egg roll and a large combination fried rice with an extra egg roll. Great service, good food, amazing prices! I highly recommend.

The food is fantastic, the service is excellent and the Ambiance well, let's face it...you don't come here for the ambiance, do you? This place will feed you like crazy for $15! If you want ambiance you can eat somewhere else, pay twice the price and get half as much food. And it probably won't taste as good either.

I love this place! It's been around for years and the food is awesome! The portions are massive and delicious! The owners are hilarious as well! It gets very busy at lunch and dinner peak times so give yourself some time. The price is good and the deal comes in how much food they give you! I will always go here

I ordered General Tso's chicken with the pork fried rice combo and I got so much food, I at twice with the one order. Chicken was ok, but the Rice was so freaking good. The place seems a bit run down but that's where you can find the best food usually.

New Hao. How are you? This mom and pop spot been around for over 20 years. It was my spot in the 20s with "momma" always yelling at us. It's Chinese American, basic, no frills food that will soothe all your cravings. They be busy. All the time. There is pick up (if you can get through on the phone), dine in and drive thru. Had not been in a long time but stopped by Saturday on the way home from Spring. Did the drive thru for the first time and ordered a large shrimp fried rice and a couple of orders of their fried vegetable spring rolls or so I thought. Misunderstanding left me with vegetable egg rolls which are not the same. The fried vegetable spring rolls are mini size (2 for $1). I also ordered a large wonton soup. I still had to wait 20 min so they had me pull into the front. The food: shrimp fried rice filled to the brim of the box. Shrimp count was less than before but still delicious. The egg rolls were better than expected esp with their red sweet and sour sauce. The win tonight soup was filled with Chinese veggies, char siu (Chinese bbq pork) and wontons. There isn't a lot of filling per se but still very yummy. Their menu looked the same. Combos etc. I forgot to ask for their chili sauce which was like crack. Addictive. Same owners. Cantonese. Nice people. Food came out piping hot. I live in the city so was about a 20 minute drive home and the soup was hot enough to burn my tongue. Def will stop again next time I'm in the hood. So many wonderful memories.

If you're from the East or West Coast, this is probably as close as you'll get to a classic House Special Fried Rice with chicken, pork, and beef. It won't taste like the version from back home, but hey--it's better than nothing. The flavors lean more toward a Mexican-Chinese fusion, giving it a homemade feel rather than a true-to-tradition taste. Portions: Decent, nothing to complain about. Service: * To-Go: The staff is always in a rush. You order, you leave--don't expect small talk or a warm welcome. * Dine-In: A small space with basic seating. On busy days, it feels cramped and a bit uninviting. Staff Interaction: If you're hoping to chat about Chinese cuisine or the menu, don't expect much insight--staff members don't identify as Chinese and aren't particularly engaged in those conversations. Parking: A mess. Reckless drivers everywhere. Would I recommend it? Sure, try it once. It's not life-changing, but if you're craving something kind of close to what you remember, it gets the job done.

    Samantha A.

Service was fast and kind but we did arrive around 4:00 so that was well before any rush. Ordered the orange chicken and general chicken. Both were good but I probably wouldn't go again. Parking is really tight and few spaces. Also got the pan fried dumplings and they were okay. Lastly, you're by the airport so the area and space reflects that.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

When we finally got seated we weren't asked What would you like to drink or this is our drink menu. It was-Water,right,right,Ok brb. So we had water just like the rest of the people in there. Also weird how they don't have any drinks on the menu or let you know about options. Could I have asked for something else? Sure but again waitresses were just all over the place it was crazy. When we ordered and others food was coming out we realized what big portions they give you. BTW just 'cus it's big portions doesn't mean This food is about to be the best Ive ever had. The food- We got some shrimp plate and we were told it was spicy because it has peppers and peppercorns which would numb your tongue which it was just basic shrimp dish. Only good or cool part of it was eating lotus root which Ive never had before. We also ordered the "special" house beef noodles and I don't see the hype or why they're so special. The only crazy part was the noodles length. Which honestly made it hard to eat. We ordered the duck which came with the soup. The soup was made from scraps. I think if they had added more duck and not just scraps it would be my fav thing of everything we ordered. Will say it tasted like chicken soup. For the duck. It wasn't as crispy as people made it seem to be. I expect idk a more gamey flavor to it and all I kept saying is-This taste like pork carnitas. Idk why we got treated than the table behind us. We asked for to go just like they do but they just gave them their to-go plates like Here ya go and they put all of our food in our to-go for us. Would I go back? Its one of those you say- Ok I've had it,had the duck, don't get the hype but ok not worth coming back again for more.

Lucky for me, they have their own parking lot, which already made everything super convenient. I walked in around 1:30 PM and was back out by 1:55 PM, so the service is definitely fast and friendly; perfect for a lunch break. The lunch menu has a huge variety of options, and every plate comes with fried rice and a pretty big egg roll. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but the quality of the food was fantastic. I can totally see how they've stayed open for 50+ years. I ordered the beef and broccoli... which honestly should be renamed to beef and vegetables, because it came with broccoli, carrots, and onions. Not complaining, though! The beef was tender and kind of reminded me of a beef fajita texture with how flakey and tender it was. The sauce was savory with garlic and soy sauce flavors and I really liked it. The veggies were cooked perfectly for my taste: still a little crunchy and not soggy. My only complaint was the onion. They were a bit too crunchy and raw, which made them super spicy and pungent, so I just moved them to the side. The egg roll was good, too! It tasted freshly made with cabbage that still had some crunch, which I love. Portion-wise, it was absolutely perfect. I finished everything except the onions and left feeling satisfied. Not heavy and not carrying leftovers, which I appreciate because some Chinese spots over serve. I paid about $20 including tip. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place and would definitely come back for lunch again.

Perfectly salty and good amount of crunch still left. The flavors they used are just perfect. Colorful Beef 4/5- The texture of the beef was so tender and not chewy at all like other places. The flavor was bright and the bell peppers were cooked through well. The issue I had with this dish was the sichuan peppercorns. I was just eating and not really looking at it super closely so I got a mouth full of these peppercorns and wow it was actually horrible. Just beware because the texture of these things are god awful and I think that they should be taken out like how a bay leaf is removed before serving. It was just really intense and it almost ruined the dish for me honestly. Other than that a great dish. My mouth was so numb but worth it. Dandan noodles 2/5- This was my first time trying this dish anywhere and I did not really enjoy it at all. The sesame flavor was really strong and it wasn't really salted at all. Very strange flavor. I will not order this again, however I do believe that the execution on this dish is great. There was a lot of sauce and the noodles were cooked well. I just really wish I liked the flavor of this dish and that's a personal problem. This dish also made my mouth numb but the flavor did not make it worth it. I wanted to like these so badly but I just couldn't do it. I will be back!

I also ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. The portion of noodles and beef was generous, but I thought the broth lacked depth and had far too much chili oil. Instead of providing a pleasant spice, the excess oil left a greasy coating in my throat that actually made me cough. The other dishes were less impressive. The Pork Bao tasted like they had been frozen and reheated, with slightly soggy, overcooked buns and a filling that lacked flavor. The Egg Rolls were also extremely small and had that same frozen, store-bought quality. Overall, the service was great and there were a few solid dishes, especially the chicken dumplings, but too many of the items tasted like frozen or pre-prepared food. I would come back for the dumplings, but I would probably skip most of the other dishes.

Casual but solid in an awesome location if you are enjoying downtown…read more My niece is a lover of dumplings and fried rice so of course we had to walk over for an early lunch before the Art Car Parade. --- location/vibes--- located in the northwest corner of downtown -- can stop by before bar hoping, catching a show, maybe even an Astros game if you wanna walk just a bit. There was a good amount of seating for that area of town but not a ton! --- Foods--- We really loved the wonton soup and mama's dumplings (gyoza basically). Both had a surprising amount of flavor. Especially the soup as this can be kinda plain at other places. We also tried soup dumplings which unfortunately stuck to the pan so we missed on the soup but the pork inside was lovely. Pricing was very resonable. ---Service--- to the point -- friendly but limited - ---Overall--- Looking forward to trying more dishes here!

My friend and I had dinner at Cooking Girl a few months back. It wasn't busy at all on a Thursday…read moreevening. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant and it was uncomfortably warm. I don't remember our server's name but she was nice. I started with a Lychee Martini. It was very good and very strong. For apps we ordered the Scallion Pancakes and the BBQ Pork Buns. The Scallion Pancakes were very good, but once they cooled down, it didn't taste nearly as good. I enjoyed the BBQ Pork Buns too. For entrées I had the Salt Pepper Fish Slices while my friend went with the Ingenious Fried Beef. The Fish Slices were very seasoned and flavorful, but a bit dry. The batter was good and I really enjoyed the peppers and onions that accompanied the dish. I think a dipping sauce would have helped. My friend enjoyed the Fried Beef. They have quite a few locations around town if you don't want to venture into the downtown area. If you're near the Theater District, Cooking Girl is a great dining option.
