Prices are a little bit higher but not by much

I've gone back a second time & they still are my go-to Chinese food place. The amount of good food they give you, for the price, is top notch. I spent $25 on a chicken plate (3 wings, ham fried rice & egg roll and a large combination fried rice with an extra egg roll. Great service, good food, amazing prices! I highly recommend.

The food is fantastic, the service is excellent and the Ambiance well, let's face it...you don't come here for the ambiance, do you? This place will feed you like crazy for $15! If you want ambiance you can eat somewhere else, pay twice the price and get half as much food. And it probably won't taste as good either.

I love this place! It's been around for years and the food is awesome! The portions are massive and delicious! The owners are hilarious as well! It gets very busy at lunch and dinner peak times so give yourself some time. The price is good and the deal comes in how much food they give you! I will always go here

General Tso's Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and an egg roll. Combo dinner.

I ordered General Tso's chicken with the pork fried rice combo and I got so much food, I at twice with the one order. Chicken was ok, but the Rice was so freaking good. The place seems a bit run down but that's where you can find the best food usually.

If you're from the East or West Coast, this is probably as close as you'll get to a classic House Special Fried Rice with chicken, pork, and beef. It won't taste like the version from back home, but hey--it's better than nothing. The flavors lean more toward a Mexican-Chinese fusion, giving it a homemade feel rather than a true-to-tradition taste. Portions: Decent, nothing to complain about. Service: * To-Go: The staff is always in a rush. You order, you leave--don't expect small talk or a warm welcome. * Dine-In: A small space with basic seating. On busy days, it feels cramped and a bit uninviting. Staff Interaction: If you're hoping to chat about Chinese cuisine or the menu, don't expect much insight--staff members don't identify as Chinese and aren't particularly engaged in those conversations. Parking: A mess. Reckless drivers everywhere. Would I recommend it? Sure, try it once. It's not life-changing, but if you're craving something kind of close to what you remember, it gets the job done.

New Hao. How are you? This mom and pop spot been around for over 20 years. It was my spot in the 20s with "momma" always yelling at us. It's Chinese American, basic, no frills food that will soothe all your cravings. They be busy. All the time. There is pick up (if you can get through on the phone), dine in and drive thru. Had not been in a long time but stopped by Saturday on the way home from Spring. Did the drive thru for the first time and ordered a large shrimp fried rice and a couple of orders of their fried vegetable spring rolls or so I thought. Misunderstanding left me with vegetable egg rolls which are not the same. The fried vegetable spring rolls are mini size (2 for $1). I also ordered a large wonton soup. I still had to wait 20 min so they had me pull into the front. The food: shrimp fried rice filled to the brim of the box. Shrimp count was less than before but still delicious. The egg rolls were better than expected esp with their red sweet and sour sauce. The win tonight soup was filled with Chinese veggies, char siu (Chinese bbq pork) and wontons. There isn't a lot of filling per se but still very yummy. Their menu looked the same. Combos etc. I forgot to ask for their chili sauce which was like crack. Addictive. Same owners. Cantonese. Nice people. Food came out piping hot. I live in the city so was about a 20 minute drive home and the soup was hot enough to burn my tongue. Def will stop again next time I'm in the hood. So many wonderful memories.

From top to bottom, General Chicken, Pan Fried Dumpling (6), and Orange Chicken
    Samantha A.

Service was fast and kind but we did arrive around 4:00 so that was well before any rush. Ordered the orange chicken and general chicken. Both were good but I probably wouldn't go again. Parking is really tight and few spaces. Also got the pan fried dumplings and they were okay. Lastly, you're by the airport so the area and space reflects that.

    "Wonton Soup"

The food here is completely overrated. It's not good, and everything is just overly seasoned without having any real flavor. The rice is bland and tasteless. My order was even given to me wrong, and overall the taste and quality were a 1/10. It's honestly not worth eating here, there are much better places around. I waited 50 minutes for rice and beef. The wonton soup tasted more like a pozole-style soup with cabbage (or maybe lettuce?), and the pork wonton wrapper was soggy. The food simply isn't good. Maybe it used to be at some point, but that's clearly no longer the case. It doesn't taste Chinese at all; it's just a lot of fried, greasy food trying to pass as flavor. The quality, freshness, and actual taste were missing in everything I tried. The place itself doesn't look good, it's just a small spot with a few tables, definitely not somewhere you'd want to sit down and eat comfortably. So, If you're looking for comforting, flavorful Chinese or just good food, this is definitely not the place, especially now that they've raised their prices. I feel like people only go here for the "quantity" of food, not the quality.

The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. This place is definitely a go to if I'm convincing a friend of Houston's great food scene! Rating: 4.5/5

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

And their other menu items are fire as well! We went on a Sunday late evening. We had a 9 pm airport pickup at IAH so it was a perfect opportunity to grab a spectacular dinner and make the 30+ minute drive out to IAH totally worth it. Parking lot wasn't too full so that wasn't an issue. While the neighborhood ain't River Oaks luxury, it ain't too scary either. We kept it simple - ordered a whole duck and Bamboo House Special Noodle with Beef. This place ain't cheap but the food is worth every penny. It was very busy that evening so it's not a well-kept secret but also proves that eventually, Houstonians will figure out where the good food is. The duck was near perfect. They serve the duck with the pancakes (as opposed to the buns like at Arco) which is my preference. The soup that comes with it was also extremely flavorful. And the house special noodles with beef - oh my. I swear it's just one really long noodle so you may be frustrated trying to divvy up the family style bowl, but the labor is worth it. So good... Can't wait for my next airport run so I can sneak in a lunch or dinner at this place. So many other menu items I want to try!

I had previously visited the now closed Bamboo House on Westheimer and I remember being impressed by the food. I had to make an airport run and decided that it would be perfect timing to stop by this location. I highly recommend ordering the duck ahead of time, but we were lucky enough to snag one of the last ducks when we arrived around 7 pm on a Sunday evening. The waitress was super friendly and upbeat and the restaurant is older but well maintained. You can see where the food is being prepared/cooked and you can see ducks being cooked/warmed behind a glass window. The duck was absolutely spectacular with the perfect seasoned and tender meat accompanied by well rendered crispy skin. I love how the pancakes are paper thin and pair well with the scrumptious duck and other toppings. They also provide sugar and plum sauce as additional toppings which I thought was interesting but not my cup of tea. The duck soup was extremely flavorful and full bodied and went well with the duck. The noodles were also amazing with likely hand pulled noodles served with an abundance of tender beef and vegetables with a little Sichuan kick. I was intrigued by a strawberry chicken dish that I saw on the menu and I plan to try it the time. My diagnosis: hands down the best Peking duck in the greater Houston area!

Lucky for me, they have their own parking lot, which already made everything super convenient. I walked in around 1:30 PM and was back out by 1:55 PM, so the service is definitely fast and friendly; perfect for a lunch break. The lunch menu has a huge variety of options, and every plate comes with fried rice and a pretty big egg roll. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but the quality of the food was fantastic. I can totally see how they've stayed open for 50+ years. I ordered the beef and broccoli... which honestly should be renamed to beef and vegetables, because it came with broccoli, carrots, and onions. Not complaining, though! The beef was tender and kind of reminded me of a beef fajita texture with how flakey and tender it was. The sauce was savory with garlic and soy sauce flavors and I really liked it. The veggies were cooked perfectly for my taste: still a little crunchy and not soggy. My only complaint was the onion. They were a bit too crunchy and raw, which made them super spicy and pungent, so I just moved them to the side. The egg roll was good, too! It tasted freshly made with cabbage that still had some crunch, which I love. Portion-wise, it was absolutely perfect. I finished everything except the onions and left feeling satisfied. Not heavy and not carrying leftovers, which I appreciate because some Chinese spots over serve. I paid about $20 including tip. Overall, I would 100% recommend this place and would definitely come back for lunch again.

My friend Aurora wanted to meet Donna early dinner and gossip session and she really liked this place. Did not realize they deliver to the table. Order: Mongolian beef combo with fried rice and egg roll $14.99 The food comes in takeaway style containers. Win. Mongolian beef (2.5/5) - slightly over sauced for me; beef was pretty tender and there were carrots and edamame which is not the standard so maybe that's what makes it fusion? Fried rice (3/5) - standard style fried with small pieces of bean sprouts which I love so that was a nice surprise Egg roll (3/5) - I assume it was chicken because I didn't realize there was a choice) - it was crunchy and soft on the inside which I like, and pairs well with sriracha (did not eat till I got home) They seem to do a whole lot of take away. The staff were nice and hard working. I was excited when they first opened bc they had chow fun on the menu and being HK Cantonese, I love that dish but when I ordered it the 1st and 2nd time eight years ago instead of bean sprouts they had cabbage and that alters rhe flavor tremendously. I see why it's popular among the people but just don't think it is for my taste.
