First I called the business to see if walk ins are accepted. The said yes, so we did a walk in and the track was rented making it so walk in were not available. We were advised to schedule an online appointment which requires payment. No biggie, we made a reservation. I paid for 8 racers totaling over $200. We show up 5 hours later to our scheduled time and we're asked if all of the children were mine. I replied yes, I am their legal guardian. They replied legal guardians could not authorize permission (on the website legal guardians are allowed to authorize permission). My children and foster children had their Saturday completely ruined and let down. We were completely denied services and were not refunded money. They took down a name and phone number to pass on to their boss. I would never recommend this business as they only recognize biological children as your own and stole over $200. Paying for a service, not receiving the service, and being denied an immediate refund is theft. Will never return and will never recommend this businesses. Drive to Carson city and race at the Carson raceway at the indoor amusement park, your money will be much better spent. read more

Probably the worst experience I have ever had at a go-cart facility. To start the prices are high costing around $23 a person. The staff were all teenager a that were unfriendly and arrogant. Then once you start racing around the track they hold out signs and yell at you for drifting. Not one person in my group was attempting to drift a go-cart but in order to turn on the corners you have to turn the steering wheel which causes the tires to screech on the slick floor. Never going back. I apologize for just doing an edit I can not figure out how to reply. So yes the price is clearly $23.00 you are correct sir and yes I guess I should have used the internet to look at the pricing prior to arriving at the facility. I was there on January 26th, 2019 at the opening. The female cashier was fine. My problem was mostly with the tattooed young male as we collected our helmets. We had our annual fundraiser for RSAR here tonight. The facility was ours exclusively for three hours. What a ton of fun this place was. It was so easy to get checked in, and put your name on the list to wait for a race. Everyone at the front desk is cheerful and kind, and the anticipation effortlessly builds as you watch others race at breakneck speeds around the track while you wait to be called. When you are called, you walk into a waiting corral filled with fresh clean head socks for hygienic purposes and motorcycle helmets of different sizes that you must put onto your head for the duration of the race. The staff then assigns you a car and briefs you on the general guidelines about how to drive the cars before checking it for safety and letting you rip out on the track. The cars themselves are awesome; they accelerate fast and go up to 45 miles per hour around a very long indoor track, filled with turns and switchbacks. The cars are battery powered and high torque. No exhaust fume smell creates a delightful experience. Be careful with your knees, as there is a bolt sticking out from the right side of the steering column that tends to stick in your knee as you go around the turns and can end up bruising the inside of your knee. You go for 14 laps around the track, usually priced at $23 per race. It's a pretty expensive experience, but if you haven't been it's well worth it. There's nothing else like this in Reno. It's so good, in fact, that today, as we arrived, we saw a couple of actors who were in My Big Fat Greek Wedding leaving after a race. If a race isn't your speed, they also have blacklight mini golf, of which we played two games, and they were both very enjoyable. The facility also has a nice room in the back to eat in, and this can be great for setting up special parties, like a birthday party. There's two separate rooms designed to keep the food away from the general party area. Every room is clean and organized, and it's a great place to host an event. Overall, Need 2 Speed is a very fun place to go for entertainment. Everyone needs to experience this at least once. read more

First thing to realize: These aren't the go-karts from the mini-golf place you're used to! If you're expecting a race around the course where the acceleration would be likened to a warm breeze, you're in for a rude, heart-pounding awakening! I attended the Sunday night shoot-out, an event that promised at least two qualifying races, and a final third race to the fastest drivers. Prizes were to be awarded in several categories. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. This event uncovered some smoothest, most hard-core drivers in the area. When I walked into the building, the staggering number of customized helmets I saw was somewhat unnerving. It was like the kart version of Fast and Furious. These people meant business. As I consider myself pretty competent driver, it was good to be on the track with other drivers equal or better skill. I also appreciated being able to talk to the owner about the course and got some really good pointers that helped my times improve so much that I had the best lap ever! It didn't help my standing in the competition but that was okay because its all about personal improvement for me. Overall, I had an absolute ball! Iove this place! read more

I don't really have a need to speed. I've never gotten a speeding ticket. My least favorite part of bicycle riding is going downhills fast. I'm pretty chill about enjoying the journey without concern for how long it takes. Nevertheless, these go-karts are super speedy and it is super fun to race them! My boyfriend and three of his dude engineer friends and I visited here after work on a weekday. Three of us had never been here, and two of us had been here 12 and 14 times. All of us had a great time doing two races, or the equivalent of 14 laps, twice, with a break in between each race. Apparently a Need 2 Speed rep had made its way to a bunch of engineering firms in the area for promotion, so my boyfriend had two coupons for half off one race. For non-members each race is $23, which is kind of expensive, but also a distinctively fun experience. I recommend doing two races. I've never even worn a motorcycle helmet before, let alone raced go-karts. And I'm a bit of a scairdy cat sometimes. But the instructions on how to use the go-karts were clear, and slower folks (my average lap was 30 seconds) can coexist well on the course with, uh, four super speedy dudes (25-26 seconds per lap). I think my first race I got lapped four times by the speediest of the engineers! Nevertheless I had SO MUCH FUN zipping around the corners and accelerating like mad on the straightaways. It is to Need 2 Speed's credit that dudes who race cars and motorcycles for hobbies can have as much fun as total newbs like me on the same course in the same go-karts. Perhaps it was fortuitous that the night before we had played lots of racing arcade games at the Yelp Elite event at Game Lab at the Peppermill. I got a little practice in before tearing it up on the course! Word of warning: uh, driving a car feels WEIRD after two races. I had to remind myself that I was in a car on a road with other cars and not in a go-kart on a course with other go-karts where there is no repercussion for hitting the bumper walls a lil' bit. Take advantage of the comfy couches and the basic snacks and pore over your page of results for each race before heading home! Even my boyfriend, who knows what he is doing when it comes to all things vehicles and going fast, was taking the turns a lil' too fast on the way home! Their go-carts are super fast, and the races last quite a bit of time. I've now been here on three different occasions and I appreciate the opportunity to go out and have some fun with friends. The last time we went was on Saturday November 7th. Unfortunately there were two kids party in front of us and we had to wait about an hour to get on the course. We were confused on why they didn't have two registers open (one to take the party parents money and one for all walk ins.) Be sure you wear closed toe shoes or you will not be able to race. The cost to race is $23 for non-members and $18 for members. The registration process is pretty simple and you have the choice to tie your account with them to Facebook. Before racing you'll get instructions about the karts, helmets, headsock, and flags. The karts are electric, fast, and fun. You definitely need to get the hang of lightly tapping the brake on some of the hairpin turns. It is truly about getting the best time and not passing the other drivers (even though that is fun as well.) At the end of your race they provide a printout with your times and your position. All in all, it is fun to hang with your buddies and see how well they can adapt to the course. read more

Horrible experience. Rude front desk lady named Sarif. First off, I Waited 27 minutes past our scheduled given time to race. I know things happen so it's not something to hold against them but since I had such a bad experience I figured I give my entire experience. Secondly, we were told that we are racing for time, not for position. As the race starts the kart is not registering on the screen/system. Therefore, we are racing for nothing. After the race I spoke to the front desk lady, Sarif, and she told me it's not her problem it sounds like a "you" problem. I explained to her that it's what we paid for and she proceeds to tell me that it's the mechanics fault not hers, so therefore it's not her problem. The other front desk lady looked shock as Sarif was telling me this with attitude, telling me there's nothing she can do. I asked her to speak to a manager, she told me there's no manager on duty and there's no mechanics either to speak to sooo... I told her that she needs to find someone who can help me and figure it out. She calls someone, waits 10 minutes later and hands me a paper with "the managers" email address and told me I can email him. I asked what's going to happen after I email him and she tells me it's not her problem. I said thanks and have a good day and she rolled her eyes and mumbled something as she walked away. The other front cashier person apologized and said that its not her who's saying those things as she looked embarrassed by it. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT A PRIORITY. If I could give zero stars, I would. Showed up in the middle of the day (we are from out of town). Five employees were standing around doing nothing. No cars were racing on the track and they turned us away, saying they were booked up. But there was literally nobody in there waiting to race. This doesn't seem like an efficient way to do business at all. They just lost $150 bucks for us to race for 5 or 10 minutes. It seemed like nobody wanted to work. They were just standing around talking and turning money away. The girl behind the counter was very rude and told my husband to "fuck off" when he questioned why we couldn't race even though nobody was racing and there was nobody in the facility. My guess...they didn't want to clean the helmets or something. If you are the owner of this business, your employees need to do better for you. You are losing money. read more

I took my daughter here because she was here a few weeks before our trip with her mother. She said it was fun and wanted to race again. The cars go pretty fast and they have a nice facility and track. She got to race against 4 or 5 just people. She was mad because she couldn't catch the front car. They were in the front too begin the race and were good drivers so she couldn't gain much on them. It costs about $20 per session. So it's not necessarily cheap. But if you are here on vacation, I'm sure you've hit the casino. I let her drive 5 sessions. I figure it was the same as a buy in at the tables or into a slot machine. So I didn't think twice about how much it cost. Plus my daughter had a blast. She would have raced more but after the 5th session, everybody racing left. She didn't want to drive by herself. Normally I don't write reviews for places like this, the overall experience was wonderful and the employees were very nice even though only my husband and his friends were able to ride due to me being pregnant but I would like to note that I do not believe it is alright in ANY way to have a fellow pregnant woman be standing standing around for hours without being offered a chair... Its completely unacceptable and this should not be allowed in a workplace... unprofessional and just very wrong. I should be reporting this to authority that would change this I feel very sorry for her and just don't understand why a company wouldn't allow seating for a desk job let alone seating to a PREGNANT WOMAN... shame on the management for this please think more about your associates especially ones with conditions requiring them to have a chair. read more

We came on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted as soon as we came in. We brought three $5 off coupons we got from the Bowling Stadium at downtown Reno. We were instructed to register the riders at the computers beside the register. After putting our info up, we were quickly helped at the register. Adults need to sign their waver and he guardian for the minors. Assuming that I might not be of legal age yet since I'm just 18, they asked for my ID. It was a bit overpriced, $20 for non-members. It is quite high for visitors who are not coming back in the next few months or so. 13 and over riders could go up to 45 mph, children up to 25. Adults and children ride separate races. We waited up to about 30 minutes till we got our on-track instructions. We had a blast of 14 laps. Competition-wise, their instructions to let other riders pass was somewhat confusing. Fun-wise---VERY. The track had lots of curves which was nice. They had a comfy waiting area with sofas and magazines. They also offered hairnets/bonnets to put under the helmets. The ride felt safe because of the protection like that at the side of bumper cars. Other than the price, overall, it was great. The wait was reasonable. The people were nice. The ride was safe and more importantly, fun. *It would be nice to have more design or color in the place coz it was too plain. Also, no free wi-fi. read more

First thing I want to mention is these go karts are not your ordinary go carts you see at places like wild island. These are fast! Fast enough that you need a motorcycle helmet. Seems like they hit about 30-40 mph. It is always a blast when I go here, that you are almost upset that it's over. Make sure when you racing, not to turn the wheel too fast when making turns as it turns your go kart into something out of Tokyo drift (unintentionally). It's just a great time if you're looking to kill time and have some fun with your friends. I also played the mini golf and rode the finger coaster when I was there last. If you buy a bundle pack, it's generally cheaper than purchasing separately. I really liked the black light mini golf. It is only 9 holes, but each whole get a lot more difficult as you progress. As far as the finger coaster, it was better than I had anticipated. When I watched the last group, it looked like it barely moved, but once you put on the VR goggles, it becomes completely immersive and it feels just like your actually on the coaster. What I liked the best was that you got to create your coaster with as many twists and turns as you want. (Tip: avoid making too many loops in a row unless you enjoy whiplash) Overall, a great place to spend a few hours at and not a bad price, about $25 for one ride. Well worth it in my books! If you like indoor karting then you will love this track. I've raced competitively at several indoor electric kart tracks around the country and Need 2 Speed is still one of my all time favorites. Particularly because the karts are the well maintained, despite them being used day in day out. The mechanic is very knowledgeable and sets the handling up for optimum balance and drivability making the racing experience more enjoyable. Most other indoor tracks I've raced at the karts are beat to death and perform rather poorly overall. I have also found the management to be quite friendly and accommodating. Although indoor karting isn't exactly cheap, Need 2 Speed is quite competitively priced actually. Great family fun and I really enjoy racing with my son. read more

This was a lot of fun. Came here for a party and one guy was running late. They didn't pressure us to hurry up and race at our reservation time. The 2 girls at the counter were really nice and accommodating considering that one of our group was so late. We played black light mini golf while we waited for our missing guy. The artwork on the course was surprisingly really good and I probably played my best game ever including a hole-in-one on the second hole! I'd come back just for the golf even. Ok, so the racing was a lot of fun too. The cars were way faster than I expected. Too bad I did better on my practice race than I did on the qualifying or final races. The course seemed a bit short, it led to some congested spots on the track where everyone bunched up a few times unable to pass and being slowed down. I'm usually not a big fan of Go Kart racing, but tried to keep an open mind when going to Need 2 Speed as a birthday treat to my boyfriend. Although really anxious at first, I found it more enjoyable than I initially thought. Environment: Of course a majority of the building was the track, separated from the waiting area by chain gates and suspensions on the track itself to absorb any impact from the racers. The Karts are located near the entrance, with racing helmets and head socks and even cubbies to hold your belongings while you race--all of which are on shelves right before you step into your Kart and onto the track. The waiting area has tables and couches to sit at while waiting for your race to start. Near one corner was a cool replica of a race car from a famous NASCAR driver. There are screens on some of the walls showing who is currently driving on the track, what lap they are on, what position in the lineup they're at, and the time of their lap. Staff/service: When you initially get there, if you have never been there, you will be asked to fill out a waiver. It was pretty straightforward, and one of the clerks was very patient while I filled it out. One race is 14 laps, or a time equivalent, running at $23. If you check in on Yelp prior to paying, you get $5 off the race. An acquaintance of mine also said that I would be able to get a student discount, but when I asked another clerk about it, she had automatically said I would not be able to use two discounts, while I had only meant for it to be taken as if a student discount existed or not. When getting ready for my race, the guy was patient and polite in explaining the general rules of the track, what meanings the warning flags held, how to operate the Karts, and even helping me into my helmet and Kart. Overall: I had fun coming here and trying it out, despite initial fears of getting hurt and whatnot. I'm not sure I would frequent coming here, as I felt other patrons I raced with took being the fastest driver too seriously and as a result were not always cautious when being near other racers. While the price wasn't outrageously expensive for one race, I'm still glad I was able to save any money on it, especially since I did not finish all 14 laps. Lastly, I would say this place is good for groups, both adults and children (they have separate races), or even if you've never tried Go Kart racing before. They also apparently had mini golf, too, which I thought was a weird combo to racing, but you could never go wrong with mini golf anyway. P.S. they give you race results when you're done, which was pretty cool towards the overall experience. read more

I went here with my two kids and my nephew. The whole arena was pretty cool, with the karts and the course. The waiver was really simple to fill out, just your name, birthday, city, state, and your agreement. The price was a little unruly, $20 for a kid, and $23 for an adult. The scoreboard was neat, ranking the racers and their laps/speed. The employees were really helpful, helping us with the helmet sizes, and go karts. The go karts were detached from the chargers, and the race began. I loved the course! The intricate course was super fun because it had so many twists and turns. My go kart stopped during the length of my race, and the employees pulled me into another go kart. I was kind if surprised...you think if they charged $20- $23 a person they would have their act together! My new go kart didn't stop or, THANKFULLY, break down. Everyone else's go kart seemed to work efficiently, so that was good. I ended up placing second, even after my go kart debacle. Overall, the place was pretty good. I thought it was really cool that they give you a score sheet at the end, telling your speed, and what you placed. They do charge you $9.99 if you want a trophy, which was a little strange to me, especially after the price. read more

Reading the other Yelp reviews here just made me love this place more. I truly only have one bad thing to say about any experience. I visited with co-workers and my boss for a race and I only have one thing to say. The pit crew REALLY liked my boss more than me and though my hours of practice in a simulator should have guaranteed me victory the Pit crew took it upon themselves to slow everyone down just as I was making big moves to win. This caused me to get second place and my boss refused a rematch. When questioned about the slow down they looked me cold in the face and informed me it was because two racers collided and one had turned backwards. I know this may have happened but I don't understand their reasons for requiring so much 'safety'. Oh well, barring my experience, you'll find that racing clears your head and opens your heart to a fun the likes of which you can barely fathom. Great place for a friends night out, company get together, or just about anything else. Unless you hate fun things. If you hate fun things I HIGHLY recommend that you avoid this place. read more

My partner and I came here the other day, and it certainly was beyond our expectations! First of walking in, it was well kept and extremely clean. Entertainment venues like this tend to be on the dirtier side, but not here. We had a blast! It was exhilarating and an experience to share with our friends and family. I had my son's birthday here today. I have never had a more unorganized birthday party at any establishment I have ever been at. There was no host to help during the party. I literally had to call the front desk to get extra napkins and plates for the cake. They had nothing to cut a cake with. At the end of the party we left on our own. Nobody ever came to check on us. I had to go to the front desk to ask for the medals that should have been given to the kids. There were 3 girls at the desk sitting on the side counter and looked annoyed I bothered them. I initially had a big issue with one of the staff who didn't seem to want to help me very much while I was trying to rent out the entire facility. Long story short, I made a negative yelp review and the owner Chris reached out to me and took the reigns from there. He made sure that my organization was completely taken care of and gave us a discount that was more than generous. He went out of his way to right the wrong and made sure that we were completly happy. He extended a future discount to our organization and his staff took care of us like we were rockstars. Needless to say, Chris made sure that any negative experience with Need to Speed would be immediately forgotten. I would absolutely recommend this place to every and anyone. read more
