I searched Yelp to find out who had a good reputation. need a Hand came up with good reviews. I called and within a short period of time I got a call back from Bob who explained how they work and offered to come over and take a look so he could give me a solid quote. He was able to schedule the following Saturday. Jason was there on time and within 45 minutes the old material was loaded and gone! Wow! My girlfriend and I had to move from Santa Rosa to San Carlos. We had a small apartment full of furniture and various stuff we had to get 85 miles in a very short period of time. Wow! This was our first time using a moving company and I'm soooo glad we went with Need a Hand! We had called another company to move from a two room, two story townhouse to a three room two story house and their bid was almost $3,000. I heard about Need a Hand from a friend and Bob, the co-owner quoted a price less than 1/3 the other movers! Jason and his team were AMAZING, helpful and very careful. They went above and beyond with their customer service. We also had some remaining items at the old place, so we used their hauling/dumping services too. These guys were great from start to finish. We reached out to Jason , the owner, with our questions, filled out the moving survey and got a quote that seemed reasonable and less than the quote I received from an other company. We had a lot of stuff, including a riding lawn mower and large potted plants, to move after 32 years in the same house. Jason assured me they could move almost anything (except propane tanks) and sure enough, they did. Tom, Robbie and Gerry showed up on time, were efficient, quick and funny and finished loading the truck in less time than estimated. Tom, the crew chief allayed all my fears about fitting stuff in, loading the mower, taking care of the plants. 4 hours later they unloaded all items quickly, setting up the beds etc and unloading that darn mower with no problem, no damage and even the plants still looked good. We called "Jason" the owner and received a quote to move a three bedroom home. The price/estimate seemed a little steep. We needed someone right away and they were the only ones that could accommodate our needs in terms of schedule, so we gave them a shot. I will preface this review by saying that Jason should not be a business owner or he should hire someone to deal with customer's. He has been a mover for 16yrs and is severely lacking in the customer service dept. 1st off, his final bill was $1480 over the original est. I have his team on video (standing around for long periods of time (milking the clock) and walking and moving soooooo slow. They damaged our furniture really bad (5 pieces of furniture), damaged our new home in 6 different places. When I tried to have a conversation with him about the charges and damages he said that the billing had an error (by them) and he would correct it. He did not!! He started by telling me that he had lost a child 6 months previously and has been having a hard time remembering things/concentrating (yes, he played that card). Naturally I felt empathy for his situation and awaited his response for an updated bill and solution to the major damage to my home and my furniture (my furniture is very good quality and brand new and I paid over $10k for it) Now it looks like it has been through the ringer. He called me back after speaking with "Will" his lead mover on this move and told me that we had never mentioned any damage (when in fact my partner asked "will" who we speak to about the damage and he said that we would need to email "Jason". Will never told his boss the truth and Jason went on the blame my Fiance and our 7yr old for the damages. Stating the the "kid" was moving furniture and maybe he caused the damages. The 7yr old did in fact help with the move, he picked up pillows and some small boxes (from his mother's car, not the moving truck and only what he could carry). He NEVER moved any furniture or any of the "heavy lifting", which is the stuff that got severely damaged. The movers "lost" all the hardware for our Three beds (now we cannot put them together and have to buy new hard ware). In summary they/Jason did not even finish the job. They did not bring all of the stuff to new the house, which was included in the estimate (I will have 2 or 3 truck loads to do by myself) as I do not have a moving truck. They damaged our new home and our new furniture (Severely)! They pulled the classic bait and switch on us. They showed up in the moving truck and it was out of fuel. After loading the moving truck they had to get gas for the truck. But they had to drive and get the "gas card" in order to refuel (@$285per hr) on our time. It took them 5hrs to get to the new home (my Fiance left at the same time as the movers and it took her 2hrs). We have them on film standing around, only one guy of the 3man crew was working (2 of them had little to no experience). After a couple of hrs of loading the moving truck they had to take everything out and reorganize the moving truck (on our paid time)! They accused us of telling them that "it's no big deal" about the damage to our home (NOT TRUE), they accused us of possible damaging the furniture (NOT TRUE). The owner of this company is a liar, his top guy "Will" is a liar and they are in the business of ripping people off! If you have nice things and you want to take care of them DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN THE CARE OF THIS COMPANY!! I was charged nearly $3,800 to move a 3 bedroom house 87miles away and everything we owned was boxed and bubble rapped before the movers arrived. I believe most of the damage happened during transport and/or when they had to take everything out and re pack the truck. You could tell that they had no experience (with the exception of "Will") They will have you sign an estimate to get you on the hook then they will charge you a bunch of extra time, loose you hardware for your beds, damage your home, damage your furniture, leave the job unfinished and after all of that accuse you of damaging your own home and furniture. I will be reporting these practices to the BBB. They need to be stopped. I do not want someone else to fall victim to Jason (the owner) and his pit vipers. read more

This was my 1st experience with a moving company. Jason and Marty were my movers who made it very easy and comfortable to move. They were so efficient as they moved my partner on a Saturday and I moved on a Sunday. They were friendly, personable, quick, on time, with no BS or laziness! No damage to either apartment, they even helped pack some stuff I hadn't finished packing yet. The prices were very fair and affordable. They put both our beds back together which was very very helpful. My credit card was declined I knew I had money in the bank I just couldn't get it out. They told me they'll get it from me on Sunday! My card could only get $60 at one time due to Target having a breach of credit cards #'s. They were totally fine with it. Which was awesome!!! I would highly recommend them to everyone I know and don't know. I will definitely use them again and just have great things to say about them. You won't regret it they are worth it!! read more

We recently moved from Petaluma to Santa Rosa. I found Need a Hand here on Yelp. I scheduled about 2-3 weeks ahead and had no problem getting the day we needed for our move. We mostly had furniture to move as we had moved boxes and other lightweight items ahead of time. CHRIS & TIM, arrived 15 minutes ahead of time and loaded quickly, carefully and then zipped to Santa Rosa and also unloaded safely and promptly. Once again "Need a Hand Movers" came through for me! My husband and I moved from the Peninsula to Sonoma - the move involved a 700 sq foot condo and a 15x20 storage space. Jason set us up with 2 crews - each crew showed up at their respective assignments right on time and as soon as all the required paperwork was done they started loading the trailers. The storage space took about 2 hours - that was all wrapped furniture and plastic storage tubs (mostly stuff they moved for us 2 years ago) and the condo was all boxes and more furniture. The crews were on their way to Sonoma by 12:30. They were unloaded and done by 4:30pm. Tim, David Tom and James were our crew - super respectful, courteous and so hardworking! No dilly dallying just work - they even put together the antique bed for me (THANK YOU!). Hoping to never move again but I will definitely refer Need a Hand any time I am asked for a mover referral.
