Terrible customer service, as many others have noted. After being helped briefly by a staffer, we waited and waited and waited to actually purchase the items we were asking about, only to have her help other customers that came in after us and never once acknowledge us patiently waiting. When we finally got to ask about what they had in stock, they had to order the real lamps, but they had "dozens" of the slightly different knock offs "they had designed for us" (e.g. got in china off the back of a truck). Very shady place, and super unhelpful staff. Use it as a showroom, and buy online, you'll get a better deal and probably get it faster. read more

Their prices are high. Let's just start there. Every time I've gone to buy a lamp shade (at least a half dozen times over the past two years), there hasn't been a soul around to help me. Not that I *want* or *need* it, but you'll see my point shortly. So I stop by recently to get a shade. I chose to do this rather than go to a box store because I wanted to do my part and support a local business. So I go into the basement to pick a shade for a lamp I just bought at a flea market. And for the first time ever, I actually *see* someone working down there. The saleswoman is waiting on someone already and since I don't really *need* her help, I pick a shade out myself. I do what most people do -- I try one shade and put it back. Pick out another, put it back. I was handling the shades delicately and putting it back where I found them. The lady then proceeds to speak to me as if I were a 5 year old and talk down to me and chastize me in front of the customer that "if [I'm] patient, I'll help [you] in a moment.". I thanked her for her offer and said I can pick one out myself. To which she nastily replied that "that's not how we do it here." Really? Hmm... interesting, I thought. Considering that every time I've gone there, no one has ever asked me if I needed help. Ever. I proceeded to find my shade but after 5 minutes of the saleswoman's eye rolling and sighs every time I picked a shade while she helped that other woman, I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm a woman in my 30's, so I'll be damned if someone will treat me that way. So I took my lamps and left. Paid for one shade and drove to Target. Bought another shade for a hell of a lot less and had enough left over to buy some cute accessories for a new dress I just bought. So much for trying to help a small business in a down economy. And I highly doubt I will go back. read more

Neena's customer service was seriously bad. I bought over 20 recessed lighting fixtures from Neena's and used an electrician - Mario LoContro - that they recommended to install them. After just a month, some fixtures stopped working - not the bulb - the fixtures themselves were failing. Neena's provided replacements for two of the fixtures but I had to pay for electricians work (about $100 per fixture replacement.) Months later and more fixtures failed. Neena's refused to pay for any more replacements and was angry at me for even asking. More significantly Neena's was not interested in finding out what the problem was. The electrician, a friend of Neena's - also seemed uninterested in the cause. I contacted the manufacturer and posted inquiries on electrician websites. After about 5 years and more than half of the fixtures failing, the electrician that Neena's recommended finally let on that my installation of mini-halogen lights was his first and he did not push the ceiling insulation far enough away from the fixtures which caused them to overheat and fail. He still wanted to charge for the replacing fixtures that he installed incorrectly so I learned to replace the fixtures myself. Moral of the story - don't trust Neena's or anyone they recommend. read more

I have worked with Chris Zaya at Neena's for several years and always get undivided attention, great customer service(returns, damages, delivery options, etc), and a good knowledge of lighting products. Only complaint is regarding dated products in showroom and the sign out front which looks like a two week solution but has been up forever. read more

Neena's exemplifies poor customer service and provides absolutely no discernible benefit from ordering online. Here's my frustrating experience with this company: I needed a ceiling light to replace an old broken one in an apartment I was getting ready to rent out. I decided to support my local business and go to Neena's where, in the end, I placed an order for a light. After placing the order, I was told the light would arrive in 2 weeks and that they would call me when it arrived. Three weeks pass and, wondering the status of my order, I go back to the store (I live nearby). Lo and behold I find out it's on back order and that it would need to take another couple of weeks to arrive-- I guess nobody could be bothered to call me about this. Since I informed them I was kind of in a time crunch to have this light installed, I was promised somebody at the store would contact me to see if there were any other options so I could get something equivalent right away. Nobody calls me back. 2 weeks later, the light finally arrives and I go into the store to pick it up. When I get there, I'm handed an unopened, uninspected shipping box they received from the company they ordered from. I get home and open the box which is, BTW, full of annoying packing material-- they didn't even bother to remove and give me the inner box that contains only the light. So, anyway, what do I find when I open the box? It turns out they ordered the wrong light or, more specifically, the wrong ceiling mount type. Argh! Unfortunately, at this point I had run out of time (tenants about to move in) and had it installed anyway. Frustrated, I go back to the store and vent a bit to a sales person (the manager was not in) about my experience. She apologized and told me that she would speak to her manager and see if they could at least give me some store credit for my hassle and keep me as a customer. I also needed her to get back to me regarding a question I had about the mount of the light that I received. You can guess what happened. She never got back to me and, one month later, I never received the store credit in the mail, as promised. OK, so here's what I learned about this company: - Neena's store is essentially an exhibiting showroom; they have no stock on the premises which means they'll always need to place your order through their resellers, which equals a minimum wait period of 2 weeks (since they apparently ship to themselves using the cheapest shipping method). - Neena's stocks nothing unique. In fact, you can find their exact selection online at sites like Lumens and Amazon since those sites order from the same resellers. - Neena's is a middleman. They tack on a 10% commission for essentially going to a website and placing an order for you. - Since they won't ship to your house, you'll have to go back to the store to pick up your order, something you can avoid by ordering online (through Lumens etc.) and having the thing shipped to you directly. Plus, you can actually check the stock status online to be able to tell how long it will take to arrive, something I suspect Neena's knew from the start, but failed to inform me. Conclusion: By shopping at Neena's, you're guaranteeing yourself more time and money spent, period. Do yourself a favor: avoid these idiots and just shop online. read more

We have spent a lot of money shopping for lights at this store. It is nice to see a light fixture before placing an order, hence the appeal of the local store, plus it is nice to support local businesses (which you are supposed to get better service than big boxes). The trouble is that this Neena's location sucks at customer service, especially its manager Chris. I'd advise staying away from this particular store. The Boston store is much nicer and more attentive to customer care The overall YELP ranking of this store should tell you something. read more

I have purchased a number of lights here: they have a nice selection and are my local lighting store. But I'm so done with them. A kitchen fixture I purchased four years ago needs a new transformer for the second time. The first time, when it was still under warrantly, they gave me significant aggro claiming the transformer was fine and they finally replaced it after a yelling match. P.S.: the light worked after we replaced the transformer. Now the transformer has gone again. this time the young man with whom we argued 3 years ago told me they didn't carry this lamp and he didn't recognize it and he had no record of our previous transaction. We went to Wolfert's with our sad story and they told us how to remove the transformer, bring it to them, and they'd sell us the right replacement. Wolfert's is close enough to qualify as "neighborhood" so goodby nasty Neenas. read more

i brought my mom to neena's to look for lighting for a new addition. they have cool, modern fixtures of every kind imaginable and she found exactly what she wanted -- locally made, blown glass fixtures. they're really unique and beautiful. they also have parking behind the store (lot also is used as an overflow for the trader joe's lot), which is nice because parking in coolidge corner can be obnoxious on the weekends. read more

I like Neena's products, as I have three of their lighting fixtures. They are well made, as I have had one of them for probably about 18 years, and it was not that expensive. What I like most, is that they will do repairs if they can. No matter how long you have owned the product. BUT I do agree with what many people wrote regarding the helpfulness, friendliness & courtesy of the staff. For those prices I would definitely expect a higher quality sales experience when at the store. And there are usually long waits, as they don't seem to have enough employees on the floor. This has occurred almost every time I have gone in. read more

The young lady who runs the store in Brookline is very cut and dry. Lacks customer service and a certain personality that one should have for customers. She just seems like she doesn't like her job and it shows. My husband had to have his light repaired. ..She charged him $20 to have it checked out. If the repairman does not think he can fix the light, you would still be out of $20 because as she put it with a cut and dry expression, "You're paying for his effort to look at it." Don't know any store that would do that. I left and we had it fixed at another store for half the estimated quote. read more

i bought 2 floor lamps and a table lamp at Neena's. I got a lot of help, (which was appreciated) and I was particularly grateful that when I went, there was parking out back for their customers. Went to Neena's today to get a $4 clip for my $100. lamp shade that I purchased there years ago. Pam could not have been for gracious. She found the piece that I needed in a matter of seconds. Since it was so inexpensive I decided that my 40 year old lamp needed a new finial. After I picked it out Pam asked if I would like her to put the pieces together, which I did. She then advised me to take the bulb off, insert it into the clip and then screw it back on. The lamp is an old Waterford night table lamp and is not set up to use a harp. I could not be happier with my purchase and my inerationwith Pam. read more

I had such a bad experience there. Some Indian people are nice. Here they are so rude. You would think, being that the prices are so ridiculously high, they would try to really sell the product. I guess you have to know what you want. I figured the light might last at the least of six months. Nothing but issues with it not working right. I don't want my house to catch on fire. I haven't actually made my purchase yet, but I went to the store a couple of weekends ago, and looked all around to have some idea of what might work in my space. Then I asked for help. The saleswoman was incredibly helpful, and nice and willing to share her knowledge with me as we walked around the store. 1 star bc "0" is not an option - abysmal staff, poor customer service from the ground up. I am still waiting months later for the OWNER to return multiple messages (left with his assistant, not vm) regarding an aggressively rude employee. If my experience (and the other numerous negative reviews of former customers) is not enough reason to take your business elsewhere, then maybe you should just follow the advice of their own staff as relayed to me: "I don't care either way if we have your business." I work in Coolidge Corner, so I thought I'd keep it local when I needed some new lamps and replacement shades. First visit I practically had to stand on my head to get a VERY rude young man to even acknowledge me! Maybe he was having a bad day? I tried again. Next visit, same man, same experience. Yesterday I decided third time could be a charm so went into Neena's again. This time a woman approached me. Good start. Then she proceeded to tell me how the shade I needed was "an old style" (purchased 2 years ago from Crate and Barrel) and that she "maybe" had one shade like it in all of her stock. She then proceeded to go on and on about how she could order that style , but it would take time, I'd have limited choices, and it would be VERY expensive, even though she never once asked what I'd like to spend. Lot's of what she couldn't do, none of what she could do. Not going back. Never would recommend. read more
