Neighborhood Coffee is one of my favorite cafes in all of the Bay Area. Just don't tell anyone because I want it to be one of our best kept secrets. Shhhh...! (It was worth the 13 mile drive for me.) With floor to ceiling windows welcoming in the comfort of daylight and warmth of Californian sunshine (thank you A/C), this cafe sits high above Castro Valley overlooking the distant hills and the bay, depending on where you sit. It's in the front space of a church and upon walking in (my third visit), I feel held by the Lord. Strangely, I'm feeling tears well up because this is the exact sort of space I've been needing as I go through some challenging life circumstances. It is peaceful here but it also has a vibrant community energy on a Thursday late morning. This space is welcoming to all of the bay are community and if you didn't know it was a church, you would never know. It's for the whole neighborhood and beyond. There are tall round tables, bar tables, normal round tables, armchairs at tables, long barnhouse style tables. This space was thoughtfully curated to allow for relationships to be grown, work to be done, and quiet time to be experienced. The Americano I had is nice and strong (whoowee... I'm awake now!). They had interesting drink options and some baked goods. Prices were average for the Bay Area. I love that the cafe supports community outreach. From the web, it partners with this church and community programs. It seems to operate around community support and social impact initiatives. I love that they actively support Inclusion & Autism awareness and medical debt relief (WOW!). This is a cafe that is doing it right! read more

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I'm always down to try matcha instead. My husband and I decided to bike here on a Sunday morning (10:45am) after our pastry run. Service just ended so a lot of cars were leaving as we arrived. Don't recommend getting in line right after service because I waited over 30 minutes just to get two drinks. The lavender lemonade was very refreshing and not too sweet. The matcha latte on the other hand tasted watered down, so I could barely taste the matcha, super disappointing. It was a nice and sunny day so we decided to sit outside. The inside was very spacious, but I was overstimulated from all of people talking, especially when I was waiting in line. A good spot to stop by to grab a drink and enjoy the view outside if you're in the area. Glad I meet the time to check this place out. read more

This is the most "work from home, but still away from home" looking coffee spot that I've visited lol a few people having even their whole laptop stand conference call setup here. Fortunately there is plenty of seating and the area is brightly lit and spacious. I can see why it's a fave regular spot for some locals. As for the grub, the hojicha latte here is pretty solid; nice bold-roasty taste just how I like it, but if I wanted to be nitpicky it's a tad gritty (have to swirl the drink a bit occasionally to disperse the tea debris). Honey graham latte is good too; tastes just like cereal milk (really milky drink) with espresso if that's your jam. Bacon onion croissant is flavorful but cold and doesn't have much crisp. Friendly staff. Ample lot parking. Overall great spot for laptoping or just lounging with some chatter white noise while enjoying your cafe goodies. read more

First time stopping by since it changed over from Cafe4 to Neighborhood Coffee. The ambience and space is still the same, but they have an updated menu with more options it seems. I like that they have a rotating seasonal menu as well. This time I tried the Iced Ube Latte from the summer menu. I didn't really have high hopes since ube seems to be everywhere lately and not always executed well, but I thought this drink was actually pretty tasty and strong. I always feel like I can get work done and focus here because of how open and spacious it is. Love the view and natural light that radiates inside as well. So many tables and seating options inside and out. Bathrooms are always clean with many stalls available. Service is friendly. Best cafe and study area in Castro Valley/Hayward hands down! The cafe has good muffins and food for breakfast while you study along with their lavender latte as well! The service was good with fast delivery so you can go to your study spot. After dropping off the girls at an all-day playdate with their cousins in Hayward, my partner and I started our no-kids date at a gorgeous coffee shop. I had been to the church before, but I didn't remember the massive coffee hangout there! It's so spacious and offers plenty of seating. How long has this place been here? I wish it were closer to where I live in San Jose! I could easily imagine sitting in one of the comfortable nooks, studying or grading papers. It's also a fantastic spot to meet up or chat with a group of friends. It was definitely a nice place for a date! When we walked in, there were hardly any available seats, but the line at the counter wasn't long. We found a quiet corner to sit and enjoyed our breakfast. I ordered a hot latte with maple syrup in the name, though I can't recall the exact name. It paired nicely with my pastry. The almond croissant I ordered was delectable, with just the right amount of sweetness and flakiness. My partner enjoyed his cappuccino and savory bacon croissant. We walked up two steps to the restroom and were surprised to find more seats and tables. I wish I had noticed that area when I was looking for a place to sit. Oh well, it was comfortable where we were. The girls should have more playdates with their cousins so we can come here more often. Is it really called a "playdate" when the kids are 12 and 15, and their cousins are between 21 and 30? read more

A cute cafe at the top of hill. There's a lot of open space and seating and the drink was solid! It is one of the best Hojicha latte I've had, I can taste the tea and it's not too sweet. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Stopped by to grab a latte and a pastry on a Tuesday morning. I ordered a salted maple latte and an almond croissant. The salted maple latte was just ok... sadly it looked better than it tasted. I wasn't a huge fan of their espresso as it left a very sour after taste, even with the sweet maple syrup it wasn't very pleasant. Good espresso should be balanced and coffee forward, and I didn't get that. Almond croissant was great, but I was a bit disappointed in their coffee. This coffee shop is renamed to Neighborhood Coffee. Either that it was under new management or ownership. Pretty much, everything is almost the same. The menus are now hanging on the ceilings instead at the back of the cash registers making those who have vision problems to see better. read more

I would give it 3.5 stars! First time here and the view from the cafe is so serene on a clear day. Pretty quiet with a lot of parking around lunch time on a weekday. There was no line but was pretty busy with people studying or chatting at the tables. The area is very vast with a lot of tables. I got the seasonal graham honey latte (decaf) it was decent but didn't really taste any different or special like graham crackers what I was expecting. I also got the seasonal kouign amann which was almond and persimmon. It was a little too sweet for my liking and had a small piece of persimmon in the middle. read more

We needed somewhere to chill while waiting for a car repair, so walked over to Cafe 4, located within the 3Crosses Church campus, which is a surprisingly extensive non-denominational community! You can drive or walk in to their campus up a small winding hill, and there's so much parking. All the facilities look very modernized, beautiful, and clean. There is so much space inside Cafe 4, though it was surprisingly hard to find a seat suitable for our needs (away from sunlight and next to outlets). I think they could use more seating in here, though the abundant space allows for much privacy. A lot of people were studying or working on laptops. The atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing - it was almost library-like. Cafe 4's beverage options were reasonably priced and delicious. You order at the counter and pick up your drink there. You also bus yourself, and return your mugs at the side of the counter. Our lattes came creamy, hot, and with classy latte art. The honey graham latte is popular and deliciously sweet, with the notes of honey and graham crackers. Cafe 4 also has some pastry options. If you need to spend some time waiting for something, are looking for peace and quiet for work or study, or want to visit a great and spacious cafe, Cafe 4 fulfills these needs. read more

This is a cafe inside a huge church. Coffee was surprisingly good but the spacious area was really nice for some relaxing and chill. There was a kids event going on so it got rowdy with kids screaming and yelling and crying all so suddenly. Good place. read more

Ayyye 4 (+4).... Cafe 4 is located inside of 3crosses Church up in the hills. The cafe itself is small yet open spaced as it is combined with all of the seating available. One thing I noticed was there's LOTS of seats for groups and pairs. My friend and I saw people come in and out just to use the space for a meeting, to chat, or study. Some people didn't even order anything, so I guess it serves a study space in general. The menu is decent and has a good amount. There's even a spring/ summer menu (refresher / teas) and a seasonal (earl grey matcha, honey lavender, cardamom rose tea latte, and honey graham). They even have pastries like the classics -- croissants (chocolate and almond) -- and not the usual ones like chocolate babka. Very similar to the pastries you see at Verve Coffee. I heard the coffee they use here is Verve, which is my favorite from when I used to be in Santa Cruz! They were even selling Cat & Cloud Coffee beans. Staff were friendly. Our drinks were made relatively fast. They have nonfat milk too (bless). The honey lavender latte was delicious with the lavender flavor being more so subtle than too sweet. You can still taste the coffee too, but was still creamy. My friend opted for the earl grey matcha, which was just okay. As you can see, the barista didn't fill ours up all the way even though it was $6...It was mentioned to the barista if my friend could get more, but the barista just seemed confused and asked if she wanted more milk or ice lol. Saw a TikTok and wanted to check it out. Neighborhood Coffee (Formerly or currently known as Cafe 4? I was confused) is located within the 3 Crosses church. I didn't know this at first, so the GPS instructions were a little confusing, but it's up the winding hill and leads to a large parking lot. The cafe and the facilities are clean, modern, and like new, with a ton of seating inside and out. When I arrived at noon, there was no seating inside, but it was a beautiful day, so we sat outside. If you are looking for a very quiet place to study or work, I highly recommend it. The wifi is also reliable, which I appreciated. The cafe is a small portion of the facility, so I almost missed it at first. The drinks were pricier than I expected, with the standard options. They were out of matcha the day I went. They also had a handful of seasonal drinks. There is also an option to have your drink for there or to go, and I opted to go since I was sitting outside. There was a small line, but I was able to order and receive my drink quite quickly. read more

A great work area or a place to catch up with friends! It's so spacious and beautiful, natural lighting comes in from every corner. There's plenty of seating inside and outside, if you want to get away from the busier areas there's more straight ahead as you enter for a quieter setting. Baristas are very friendly and approachable! I had their oatmeal as I wanted something light. I'm very picky with my oatmeal, so ordering an instant one was my fault as I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But it had a nice cinnamon kick to it! Their matcha did its job to satisfy my craving for the day but nothing much to rave about that stands out. Overall this place is a great area to try. Look how HUGE my dine in drink is??? I got a Cardamom Rose Tea Latte with oatmilk so there was a $1.50 up charge which I was used to paying for being lactose. When the baristas handed me off my order it was actually half full which made the jar a bit awkward with how tall the glass was but I asked if they could top it off w a bit more ice and they were nice enough to do so. The drink options are pretty standard, nothing too unique and coffee was just okay. Good spot to study/get work done if you're lucky enough to find a spot. I absolutely love cat&cloud roasters and neighborhood coffees drinks are almost always incredible. I often get the milk chocolate mocha. Unfortunately today the service from the baristas was very poor. They had not taken someone's order correctly a couple of people ahead of me. I waited 15 minutes for my drink and I noticed someone behind me got his latte before my drink came out. I asked about my drink the barista said it was coming up but was chitchatting with her co worker on what felt like the appearance of another customer. When she gave me the order she rushed away and did not provide me a chance to ask about the service and why my drink was served last after others behind me in line had gotten there order already. I believe the main barista may be the manager so it's frustrating to see this type of service on a Monday morning when you just want coffee. The space is such an airy and refreshing space to sit and work/study. There is some noise but I personally like it and can block it out with my headphones. The workers are friendly and kind. The cashier complimented my shirt lol. The matcha latte I ordered could be less milky and a bit sweeter but I'll just ask to have it extra sweet next time. A great (not so little actually huge) spot on top of a hill in Castro valley next to a gym and a church. Inside reminds me of a college study hall lots of tables to sit at and chat or do some remote work from you lap top. This was my first time here so I asked the Barista what she would suggest I order and she said the "honey graham latte" was her favorite so I decided to order that. It is part of the church reach out/ community center. A legit coffeehouse and open for public. First time came and ordered the lavender latte. Price $6 - no other coffee place is able to keep this price. You would always pay more for the syrup. And the latte art is the most artistic in town. Neat. Not mess. I have never seen anyone from well published coffee place did this amazing work anymore. Second time came was early in the morning and seated in the patio with panoramic views. No other coffee shop could ever afford to have this views for their customers. Most are shabby because coffee beans itself are too pricey to have the customers sit down without having them bumping into each other. The commons are tight space with viewless small windows. Not what you expected from a regular neighborhood coffee shop. This is auditorium and museum coffee hangout. Coffee taste delightful and it is at lower cost to the community. Outdoor view worth million dollar. Parking on site. Garden is maintained and it is just so relaxing to sit outside in the morning or afternoon.
