    Hojicha Latte
    Susan H.

A cute cafe at the top of hill. There's a lot of open space and seating and the drink was solid! It is one of the best Hojicha latte I've had, I can taste the tea and it's not too sweet. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

This coffee shop is renamed to Neighborhood Coffee. Either that it was under new management or ownership. Pretty much, everything is almost the same. The menus are now hanging on the ceilings instead at the back of the cash registers making those who have vision problems to see better.

I would give it 3.5 stars! First time here and the view from the cafe is so serene on a clear day. Pretty quiet with a lot of parking around lunch time on a weekday. There was no line but was pretty busy with people studying or chatting at the tables. The area is very vast with a lot of tables. I got the seasonal graham honey latte (decaf) it was decent but didn't really taste any different or special like graham crackers what I was expecting. I also got the seasonal kouign amann which was almond and persimmon. It was a little too sweet for my liking and had a small piece of persimmon in the middle.

We needed somewhere to chill while waiting for a car repair, so walked over to Cafe 4, located within the 3Crosses Church campus, which is a surprisingly extensive non-denominational community! You can drive or walk in to their campus up a small winding hill, and there's so much parking. All the facilities look very modernized, beautiful, and clean. There is so much space inside Cafe 4, though it was surprisingly hard to find a seat suitable for our needs (away from sunlight and next to outlets). I think they could use more seating in here, though the abundant space allows for much privacy. A lot of people were studying or working on laptops. The atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing - it was almost library-like. Cafe 4's beverage options were reasonably priced and delicious. You order at the counter and pick up your drink there. You also bus yourself, and return your mugs at the side of the counter. Our lattes came creamy, hot, and with classy latte art. The honey graham latte is popular and deliciously sweet, with the notes of honey and graham crackers. Cafe 4 also has some pastry options. If you need to spend some time waiting for something, are looking for peace and quiet for work or study, or want to visit a great and spacious cafe, Cafe 4 fulfills these needs.

4/20/25 - Happy Easter. Quality/Quantity - We (my daughter) used to hang out here, back in the day. A good huge place to hang out, have coffee, study, etc. Fun and friendly people. A good meeting place. Atmosphere - See above and: Huge location in the church. Plenty of parking, except for Sunday mornings for obvious reasons. Open 6 days a week; see my pictures, Yelp, or their website. Free wifi. Service - See above. Long lines, but it moved fairly quickly. Price - Reasonable and supports the church. Owner Comment - Love your "Meet our Team" on your website! Congrats on your success since 2013.

Been coming here for years and I've always loved this place. It's so spacious and there's a lot of areas to work. There's plenty of windows to let in natural light. I tried the strawberry matcha today and I loved it. Definitely getting it again. The employees are also very kind. WiFi is good. There's a good amount of outlets for charging your laptop/phone.

Very nice ambiance located right next to a church/inside? Perfect spot for working/studying. There's plenty of parking and inside seating. I got the almond croissant which was very tasty & rich. Also got an Americano which was pretty good (hard to mess up) Service was nice and overall good experience. IMO one of the better spots to do work in the east bay

staff were lovely, coffees tasted great, and the venue was a nice space with excellent lighting!

Ayyye 4 (+4).... Cafe 4 is located inside of 3crosses Church up in the hills. The cafe itself is small yet open spaced as it is combined with all of the seating available. One thing I noticed was there's LOTS of seats for groups and pairs. My friend and I saw people come in and out just to use the space for a meeting, to chat, or study. Some people didn't even order anything, so I guess it serves a study space in general. The menu is decent and has a good amount. There's even a spring/ summer menu (refresher / teas) and a seasonal (earl grey matcha, honey lavender, cardamom rose tea latte, and honey graham). They even have pastries like the classics -- croissants (chocolate and almond) -- and not the usual ones like chocolate babka. Very similar to the pastries you see at Verve Coffee. I heard the coffee they use here is Verve, which is my favorite from when I used to be in Santa Cruz! They were even selling Cat & Cloud Coffee beans. Staff were friendly. Our drinks were made relatively fast. They have nonfat milk too (bless). The honey lavender latte was delicious with the lavender flavor being more so subtle than too sweet. You can still taste the coffee too, but was still creamy. My friend opted for the earl grey matcha, which was just okay. As you can see, the barista didn't fill ours up all the way even though it was $6...It was mentioned to the barista if my friend could get more, but the barista just seemed confused and asked if she wanted more milk or ice lol. Anyways, I would come back here again just to study for a long period and get their lattes / any of their coffee items. Decent prices, but I would skip their matcha!

Great place to grab a drink, catch up with a friend, or do some studying/work. Fills up pretty fast if you want to come regularly and need an outlet. It's not typically too loud, still a great place to study/ do work, but definitely not a library.

I've lived around the area for almost 10 years but never checked out this cafe before, and I really wished I did earlier because this has been one of the best cafes I've been to. The staff were so friendly, they got lots of drinks to choose from, and pastries too. My favorite is the big space full of tables for you to study or work with natural lighting too. I'll definitely be coming back!

    Marielu G.

A great work area or a place to catch up with friends! It's so spacious and beautiful, natural lighting comes in from every corner. There's plenty of seating inside and outside, if you want to get away from the busier areas there's more straight ahead as you enter for a quieter setting. Baristas are very friendly and approachable! I had their oatmeal as I wanted something light. I'm very picky with my oatmeal, so ordering an instant one was my fault as I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But it had a nice cinnamon kick to it! Their matcha did its job to satisfy my craving for the day but nothing much to rave about that stands out. Overall this place is a great area to try. Plenty of parking and also a nice area to stroll around!

Now I know what's inside those Three Crosses church that I pass by when going to SF. I didn't expect for there to be a whole cafe and study/hangout spot inside. The coffee was surprisingly good and exceeded my expectation. I ordered their sweet latte and for $6 it was HUGE. I was struggling to finish it but it was very good. Not too bitter and not too sweet. Service was quick. Will come back to study here!

Will Cafe4 ever go back to the pre-pandemic hours? I really miss hanging out until 6 :(

We really hope so! But for now, we'll be sticking with our 8a-3:30p.

Are you offering indoor seating during this time (Nov 2021)?

Making it a bit cramp when you're trying to stand in line, look at what's available, and order at the same time. Parking here is hard to get to as well, the lot is super small and fits only one car at a time. If you happen to land a spot here your best bet is to reverse all the way out because a three point turn will turn into a multipoint turn quickly. My suggestion is to park in the lot in the plaza next door and walk over. As for the baked goods the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken Croissant is phenomenal and the Strawberry Moon is a classic. The flavor profiles here lean Asian with many call backs to flavors such as ube and passionfruit. They also seem to change their menu often too so keep an eye out on the newer items as you visit. In terms of aesthetics of the pastries you can see the love in the folds of each one. The strawberry moon croissant is a good example of this because the amount of ridges in the croissant shows how many times it was folded while making it. That alone is back breaking work and truly a labor of love for something that gets consumed in minutes. Last but not least the staff, we love a good mom and pop shop. The entire family is in on this, from the cashier, baristas, and pastry chef. If you're looking for a AAPI business to support, this is the one to go to. They're kind, diligent, and when a pastry sells out you can always count on them to make more. Disappointment does not run in this family! There were only three customers inside when I arrived. When I walked in, the first thing I was asked was, "What does your dog need" rather than a hello or good morning. I explained that my dog and I were there to order coffee, and I was told the menu was outside and that she would help me at the door. It wasn't necessarily rude, just an unusual interaction. A sign explaining the dog policy might help avoid this awkward situation/confusion in the future. Unfortunately, the coffee was the biggest disappointment. After waiting about 15 minutes, my latte tasted watered down and lacked flavor. The best way I can describe it is that it tasted like warm cardboard. I don't mind waiting for a quality drink, but this one missed the mark. I ended up going home and adding more coffee and milk to make it drinkable. I genuinely wanted to like this place and was excited to try it, but the coffee was a letdown. If you're stopping by before work, be aware that the wait may be longer than expected.

There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. (This is not the matcha they use in their drinks, but it's nice to have other options available to buy.) ^^ So if you're in the East Bay and are looking for a business to support, go to Always Yours Bakery Cafe (they're also available on the Too Good To Go app)! They have beautiful outdoor seating available, as well as cutesy seating indoors. Not sponsored or anything, I just wanted to review one of my favourite cafes in Castro Valley. ^^

We each got the salmon bagel, tea, and a latte, then found a table on their cozy and beautiful back patio. The drinks came out in beautifully painted drink ware. This place was such a nice spot to catch up and chit chat over good food. The servers were super friendly and helpful, and we never once felt rushed to leave or vacate our table. The noise level was just right, too. You would think being on A St would mean we'd hear cars the entire time and would have to talk over other tables, but everyone was respectful of each other and my friend and I could hear one another speaking just fine. Parking is limited; there were maybe 4-5 spots on the side of Sandra's Barberia, but you can park on the street and walk over.

O cambiaron ? Es un servicio muy diferente . I got to go to this cafe in Hayward recently with family and thought it was very cute. The food was very good and I felt satisfied. I was sad to see that the service has changed so much since my last visit. A worker commented negatively on my sisters tattoos, another opened a bag of tea with her teeth, and one waitress made me get the plate out of her hands/seemed inexperienced with serving food. I wonder if there is new management or new owners? It's a very different service from last time.
