We had installed a Guardian garage door opener with keypad. The belt driven unit did not last a year before breaking. We called Garage Door Service hotline 1-800-989-8679. We were told this was under warranty but the service call to replace was $199? then told it was free? Then if we took the unit and installed it our-self the warranty would be void, but the operator would be free of charge. The third time we called these guys reduced the charge to $149 to install a new operator and take the old one back. They were nice to give us the options and stated would replace with a lift master if it fails again hence giving the 4 stars. Not the best warranty. I would go with a chain drive craftsman which I had previously for the past 10 years installed. Only reason i took it down was the remote controls stopped working due to a power surge. read more

Don't use these scum bags! Elderly widow neighbors garage door was squeaking when closing. She called "Neighborhood" Garage Door from a mailer ad. $39 lube and tune special. She asked me what I thought and I told her I knew it was not a major issue so if she had to pay as much as $100-$150 it may be worth it. I went out of town and when I got home she told me they replaced the rollers and charged her $660. This included a disposal fee of $60 to trash the old rollers. She said the company that showed up was "YES Garage Door Service". It sounds like Neighborhood is just a referral service. I am always shocked when I see predators taking advantage of poor seniors that are vulnerable and living on a fixed income. They will say anything to convince you to purchase with them. Their smooth talking tech Kobe, came out to the property for a new garage door quote and stated he needed a $200 deposit to print out the form, so that I could submit to the auto ins. He stated I had a 3 day cancellation option and the deposit would be refunded. He gave a $100 discount, which I later found on their website that a new garage door discount was actually $200. On the second day, Kobe followed up that the door was ready and I informed him that I hadn't heard from the ins company yet and would like to cancel, however, he stated that it was fine to hold until the next day and the garage door they ordered can be sent to their inventory storage if I reconsidered the offer. The following day, I texted him to cancel the order and received no response. Instead his technician manager Bryce called me and stated he cannot refund me the deposit because the garage door was already ordered. I requested that he speak with Kobe and he refused. I reminded him that I was calling on the 3rd day which was aligned with the cancellation policy and informed him that I will file a BBB complaint and he stated he doesn't care about the Better Business Bureau. I also called the customer service line to speak with a higher authority and the rep purposely disconnected my call twice. Extremely expensive parts ! I contacted them after receiving a flyer for a $40 garage door tune up. They were scheduled for the next day, and did arrive promptly. There were 2 technicians in the truck - I think one was a new employee as the other was running the show. During the tune up they noted several door rollers were bad And the garage door springs were old and rusted. I was quoted prices for the springs, rollers, and labor and was amazed that the total was over $1600 (2 doors with 3 springs and 2 sets of 10 rollers). I have to admit - my fault for accepting the repair work (accomplished in about 1 hour), but after looking up prices found I'd been charged $400 for $50 worth of rollers and over $750 for about $90 worth of springs. Similar to some of the other low ratings on this page, this company tried to over charge us for a repair. My wife called to quote a broken spring on our garage and ended up with a headache. To start, she spoke with a rep on the phone (Jeremy) where he explained their process of charging 20$ for coming out to quote regardless if they repair or not (I fully understand this as it's normal procedure most places). After my wife explained our situation he said "from one texan to another, we won't charge you this fee regardless if you work with us or not". Now I don't know about you guys, but this sounds like he is giving an exception and we will not be charged which we were very grateful for. The technician (I believe was named Jeremy also) shows up, and tells my wife that the cost to repair the broken spring would be 650$ or so. My wife calls me and tells me the price and we flat out deny paying that much for this service (we expected to pay around 200$). All of this is happening while I am at work by the way, so my wife had to continue calling me to ask if these prices made sense. After the initial quote, he says "oh well we can give you some discounts", and somehow lowered the quote to 400+$. My wife calls me back and tells me the new price and I said no again and that we will go and quote around. He then calls his manager and they again lower the price to 300$ because they are "slow". This is a drop of more than 50%. This technician was basically trying to take advantage and rip us off. He said "this should only take about 20 minutes" so I was confused about why he gave the initial price to begin with if the labor is minimal. Once again my wife calls me and tells me the price and I was hesitant due to the many times they continued to drop the price (this seems like a clear scam on my end) and told my wife we would not move forward with this company due to them being so inconsistent and suspicious (also, being at work I felt my wife was being taken advantage of). After all of the trouble, the technician continues to tell my wife that she needs to pay the 20$ service fee that was supposed to be waived. The technician called Jeremy back to explain what was going on and told my wife "I'm afraid we had a misunderstanding". In my eyes, nobody should say "from one texan to another" if they were just following procedure. This just sounds like a frustrated technician upset he didn't get anything out of this deal. All in all, I understand that these companies need to make money and I honestly would have paid close to what was last quoted, but because of the extremely high price to start, it was raising a red flag. When I scheduled this all out I was told a installation for the door opener of $399 I had mentioned this was a new house and new build during the call. Once the technician arrived he informed me after work had began that I would be charged an additional $100 for framing which was never discussed.. Our opener was completely misdiagnosed by this company. The tech said the board was bad and needed an entirely new unit which I was also told by another Garage Door company the same thing but as it turns out the opener needed to be reset which I did myself without the assistance of the on-site tech. After I completed the setup, everything works fine now. The tech had no training, no diagnostic equipment and only was taught how to install new units. The response time is amazing. I had a tech at my house within hours of making contact although I was not in a hurry. The technician fixed my problem very fast and the door is working very well. The reduction to 3 stars is for the cost. I was kinda in a jam so I did except the price for repair (buyers remorse). The repair cost was $499.00 and ended up being maybe 1 hour's worth of work from 1 technician. Replacement cables were $125.00 for $12.00 cables which I was not made aware of until they were installed. That's a jewelry store markup of over 1000%! I work in a technical service industry and I thought our hourly prices were high. But $499.99 for 1 hour of work? Ok, let's add another hour for travel in town...that's $250.00 an hour. That's litigation lawyer fees right there. In summary, if you want it done fast and done well, this is the place to go as long as you are willing to spend a lot of money. I had my opener installed by this company two years ago. The bar that holds the garage door opener to the the wall above the garage door literally came out of the wall, huge hole in the Sheetrock and dangerous situation. I called and spoke to a friendly scheduler and they scheduled the appointment for a 6-9pm window that evening and quoted me $38 for the guy to come out and take a look. They called back during the window to say there was a family emergency and they had to reschedule to the next evening between 6-9pm. Next evening after 8pm the tech calls and is running behind and wants me to reschedule again. I ask them to please just come because I'm concerned about needed repairs/safety. He arrived at 9:30pm and I showed him the damage and we both agree it looks like the installer didn't bolt it into the stud. He tells me that it's a significant repair and he has to reinforce some thing and will give me a quote. I tell him that his company did the original install and I shouldn't have to pay to repair for their mistake. I was polite. That's when things got much worse. He then tells me it's going to be $89 for his fee and another $169 for labor. I explain that I was quoted $38. He says the $38 is only for new customers and I must pay $89 and $169. I ask him if there is anyone I can speak to. He went to his vehicle, called a manager and came back to the house. The first thing the manager says (in a hostile tone, no less) is so I understand you don't want pay for our work. I explain that's not the case. I'm trying to understand why the price has changed and why I have to pay for the installers mistake. He just talks over me, very loudly, in a hostile tone and says he can just send his guy home if I don't want to pay. I keep trying to explain myself and he won't listen. The last thing he says is he will waive the labor, but I have to pay the $89. It's 10pm by this time, I'm a little upset and shaken and there's a stranger at my house, late at night who doesn't look happy, so I agree to pay and plan to just take care of the issue with the office the next day. The repair guy takes two minutes to bolt the equipment back in the wall. Leaves the hole in the Sheetrock and I'm not confident the whole thing won't fall again. He didn't do any of the reinforcement he mentioned initially. I followed up with the office the next day. They did agree to honor the $38 price but will only guaranteed the work for 90 day (we had a huge discussion about this as well because the installer told me 90 days and the customer service guy told me 30 days). I have never been spoken to so rudely as I was by everyone in the company aside from the schedulers who were very nice. The problems weren't resolved by talking to customer service managers, because I'm not certain this thing won't fall down again after 90 days. If it does they tell me I'll have to pay $89 plus labor. Even if it's their improper installation. Which is likely since the guy was annoyed and didn't want to fix it anyway. I wouldn't suggest this company to anyone. They don't care about customers. They are rude, unprofessional and do shoddy work so the customer has to pay over and over to have it fixed. They're not timely and they treat people terribly. Avoid them at all costs. They canceled my first appt and rescheduled. No problem. Second day, Guy shows up amd decides he thinks it's the circuit board that's the problem. Is more interested in selling me a new garage door opener than fixing existing one. It's 4pm on a Friday. He calls the office to see if the board is something they can get their hands on, but no one answers. He laughs and says "I guess they all went home early!" Then says he will call me on Monday to let me know if they can get it. Paid forty bucks for him to come and do this, which would go toward the repair. He never called back. Hello, I'm very unhappy with the service I had yesterday: 1- I was charged $10.99 extra for paying by phone, because the technician didn't know how to use his tablet and check me out. He asked me to call and pay instead, and they charged me extra for doing that. 2- when I asked them to leave before they started to work on it, because I have extended home warranty, they said that I can submit the invoice and get reimbursed. I did believe them, being supposedly a respectful company, and let them install the new system. I called American shield and spoke with more than 1 supervisor, and they all told me that they won't reimburse me, because I didn't go through them first, and it only would've cost me $100 through them, since I pay them monthly fee. So I ended up paying 3 times more than I was supposed to, because your guys weren't honest with me. Why did your guys lie to me? Just for me to give them the job???? 3- the technician refused to program my old remote and the keypad for me, before he left. He said that it's too easy to do. Just hit the learn button, then the remote key and it will work. I spent over an hour trying and couldn't get it to work. I called customer service. They talked to me with a very poor attitude, and gave me guardian phone number,' stating that they know nothing about that. I called guardian, they said that the old remote and the keypad are not compatible with the new board, and I have to buy new ones. Why your tec didn't explain all that to me? Bottom line: we are happy with our new garage door and with the installation. However, the door replacement process was a 2 month ordeal. When the initial technician came out to our house to see what kind of door we needed and what the job entailed, the company ended up ordering and delivering the wrong door. So the wrong door had to be picked up from our house and the proper door had to be ordered which added another 3-4 weeks to the process. Once we got the right door, we had it painted and then the final installation process went very smoothly. The technicians that we dealt with, especially Jason Hare, were great. David, in the office, was also very helpful sorting out the logistical nightmare that took this project so long. But in the end we are happy with the final result. read more

There were some issues with scheduling the estimate, and they said it would be a week or so before a tech was available to install our new door. When they called to check on our satisfaction, I explained our disappointment (which wasn't huge, but they asked) and to my surprise, they acted right away to fix it, waiving some fees and scheduling an installation for the next day! The tech arrived a little late in the window, but he assured us he'd finish that night instead of coming back out the next morning. Bless his heart, it took until about 9:30pm - it was a big job for one person - but true to his word, he finished that night, even though it was raining. These guys definitely cost more than the run-of-the-mill garage door repair service, but they do amazingly fast work, and do it at night if necessary. I got same-day service from Brandon and another installer (sorry, forgot his name). They got the job done quickly and without mess or complaint. I can't vouch for the quality of the new opener yet, but it's working, which is better than the horrible old Genie one (which didn't last three years, and no one can or will repair, so don't buy one). They all charged almost exactly the same cost for a basic chain drive opener with installation included. Neighborhood quoted that same total cost also. We had someone come out to give us an estimate on installing a jack shaft for an offset garage door opener. We got an estimate of around $800 and had to make a $100 deposit for installation last Saturday. We were told the installer would come between 9-12 and just after 12 that day we got a call from them that the installer had accidentally used the jack shaft on another job that morning, not realizing that it was for our installation. In short, he went to a consultation, found they needed a jack shaft installed and said, "Wow, I have one on the truck" and so that customer is probably giving them great reviews because they got a new garage door that very same day and meanwhile my husband was stuck at home, waiting for them to show up only for them to cancel. This would be forgivable, but to add insult to injury, we rescheduled for today, Thursday, and my husband stayed home from work to wait for the installer. Once again, when they were supposed to arrive for installation we got a call that the jack shaft wasn't available at the distribution center and could they reschedule for tomorrow? Neither of us is able to be home tomorrow (we both work) so we said "no" and demanded our $100 deposit back. They are only refunding us $80 because there's a $20 fee to come out and give us a quote and I find this insulting. The amount of time my husband has wasted waiting for them to show up is worth far more than $100 and the very least they could do is give us the full amount back. If they really wanted to keep us as a customer they would give us a discount or throw in a garage keypad! We found another company, Cedar Park, who is going to do this installation for $600 ($200 less than what this company quoted). Very disappointing experience overall. read more

I placed a good yelp out there for Garage Door Service - I take it all back. The fix they did last Sunday worked only one day. When I called to get them to address the issue I got a huge run around. First I got someone who said they scheduled me for someone to come get it taken care of today Saturday between 9 and noon. When the time came for the appointment no one showed up. I called them back - they told me the person I talked to on Tuesday never set the appointment - got put on hold and finally disconnected - called them back again put on hold - line was transferred to a number that said this number is not accepting messages and hung up - called back to find out that the next time they could come was Monday for warrantee work - I said it was not warrantee work that it was not fixed the first time - they said they could send someone back out but I would have to pay for the labor again - another $199 Really people - think twice and three times before having them do work because they give you the run around once they have your money - the technician will tell you that your satisfaction is guaranteed but the company's policies don't support that- they do not explain their warrantee policy (no warrantee work on weekends) until you have a problem.
