I was extremely impressed with Neil and the team at The Up & Up Garage Doors. I have a three car garage and the other day when I came home and closed the garage I heard a loud bang in my garage and couldn't figure out what it was. The next day I tried to open the garage and sure enough it was my garage door springs that broke and separated! Thankfully the existing springs lasted me about 7 years so I went onto Yelp and immediately found The Up & Up Garage Doors on top of the list based on their great reviews. I submitted a request for a quote via the Yelp mobile app and within 5 minutes I received a call from Neil the owner! Neil was very polite and I explained my situation and told him that my car was stuck inside the garage because the springs broke. To my surprise, he immediately scheduled me for the next morning! Neil came out and took a look at my garage doors, which I learned through his knowledge, to be extremely heavy double insulated wooden doors which required two heavy duty springs. While he could have sold me two of the garage springs in his van (he has a ton of them on hand) he said the heavy weight of the door requires a special spring and if he used one of the regular springs they would not last very long. I really appreciated the honesty about ensuring he found the right spring. He made some calls and said he could have the springs installed the next day! Neil arrived the next day and installed the new springs which I learned should last 10+ years! I also asked him if he could install new door rollers that are made of silicon versus metal as they are so much quieter. He did this installation as well as oiled the tracks and had the entire job done very quickly. Our garage door broke over the weekend and I left a message around noon on Saturday with the large company you've heard of. They still haven't responded to me. However, this morning I called Neil at The Up and Up. He answered the phone, told me he could be here in an hour and then guess what. He did what he said! My garage door kept getting stuck at the beginning of the opening cycle. I could tell that the motor was getting tired even though it was basically brand new. I used Yelp Projects and Up and Up was the first to respond within minutes. They were able to schedule me for the same afternoon. Up & Up is very easy to work with. I needed a new garage, and the Up & Up crew got me on the calendar right away. After a few days, a new garage door and garage system was installed. I called several places to get a quote, and Up & Up offered the best pricing, flexibility in scheduling, and were very prompt with getting back to me. After a couple months of the new install, one of the sensors on the garage door got ruined due to painters, and Up & Up came by to fix the issue without charge. Update 3: I had an extended conversation with Neal from a 3rd number. He very strongly believes that his solution would have worked and that the other company provided a temporary solution that will later fail. He told me at great length why my review was unfair, I was overcharged by the other company, and that he could just contact yelp to have my review removed and that he was going to sue me for this review. He offered to pay me to remove the review. I was willing to adjust the review to a 3 until he threatened to sue me. Update 2: After blocking the first number Neal called me from, he switched phones and continued to call me. Update 1: Neal just called my and started chewing me out for the one star review. After hanging up, he called back twice immediately after I hung up. Now I feel harassed. -- The came out exceptionally quick, and Neal, the technician provided quick and very specific issues that would need to be addressed and indicated it would cost about $1000. I was ready to go, but my wife wanted to get another quote, which we got from Gator. Unfortunately Neal indicated the motor would need replaced, the technician from Gator identified two touching wires in the button and got it working in 2 minutes. Neal also indicated the garage door itself was damaged, when it was actually that the locking rod hadn't been fully retracted and was causing the door to bow. After retracting the bar the 1/2 inch it was sticking out, it no longer caught in the rail and stopped causing the door to bow outward. Next, the technician from Gator indicated the door didn't "float" due to worn out 14 year old springs that were intended for a smaller door and had been over turned. We were able to get the door repaired by Gator for $350+ LESS and didn't have to replace the motor or do any of the things Neal said would be required. Additionally, Neal didn't mention the springs or check them. With the new springs, f we need to open the garage door manually, it nearly opens itself (floating). I feel a bit misled generally. read more

He analyzed the situation of my problem not being the garage door or opener but an electrical issue. He did not charge me anything as it was an electrical issue vs a garage door problem.
