A busy HK cafe in Richmond Hill. It's a staple spot for my partner during lunch hours, so we decided to come here even on the weekend. You can get all your HK cafe staples here and staff were efficient in taking orders and bringing out food. I went with my usual of pork chop baked spaghetti with tomato sauce and thought it was really good. Portions were good and as usual, I couldn't finish it and had to pack it to go. Was here too early for the afternoon tea special, but still great value! The tomato soup is on the sweeter side. The baked bolognese is good but not as good as another iconic place in Markham. This resto has switched hands a couple times. I believe it was Beefing with 7 before Neighbourhood Cafe. Serving up HK cafe food, my friends and I visited recently. The food was DEFINITELY lacking compared to other notable HK cafes in RHill/Markham area. First thing we noticed walking in to the resto was a really stinky almost toilet bowl smell. Not stinky tofu. Just straight s*** smell. My friend's dad instinct kicked in and he immediately checked his baby's diaper upon walking in which was hilarious. Hainanese chicken rice did not have enough flavour. The meat didn't spend enough time in the poaching liquid and the rice wasn't infused enough either. The baked rice dishes were prolly the most disastrous. My baked curry chicken steak rice didn't taste like curry. It was just a salty .... sauce. My friend's gf ordered a baked cream sauce fish fillet and it arrived super late (like basically after everyone was almost done eating is when her food arrived; no apology ... nothing). The chicken wings literally tasted the same (we ordered up 2 different types and the prep is literally the same with just some added topping to make them "different" the sauce is identical). Out of all the dishes at the table, my buddy who ordered braised beef brisket rice prolly had the most solid dish. However, they gave him like 5 pieces of brisket and a whopping MOUNTAIN of rice so he felt kinda ripped off. A HK cafe spot that has really decent prices and big portions! At HK style breakfasts, I usually get the luncheon meat macaroni but with this large menu, I deviated to a tomato soup vermicelli. Thoroughly disappointed. Probably the worst HK Cafe in the area. My fiancée and I love HK cafes. Staples like Curry Beef with Rice, Pork Chop with Noodles, Satay Beef Noodles...all dishes we've grown up loving to eat. So naturally when we see these items, we have to try them. What a mistake. We ordered the first 2 items and there wasn't an ounce of seasoning. Everything was ridiculously bland. Honestly, we weren't expecting this since both dishes actually looked...presentable. Let's talk about the Pork Chop with Noodles first. The protein was overcooked and dry. There were patches of seasoning, but horribly uneven. Some bites would be manageable, other bites would be flavorless. The broth itself...probably inappropriate to call it broth, more like water with a dash of salt. Saving grace is that the Noodles were cooked decently but nothing could save that. Stay away. The curry was absolutely tasteless. No curry flavour, no salt, the beef wasn't seasoned, the onions were raw. The list goes on and on. My dish also came with a piece of surprise mystery meat - the rubbery texture suggests it part of beef brisket, but did not confirm. The worst thing of all was the sheer amount of oil in this dish. It felt like everything was doused in oil. After eating a couple of bites, it became so unappetizing as the oil separated from the sauce. I've never had a broken curry sauce before!! The only thing good about the meal was the milk tea. Incredible silky smooth and rich. But that can't make up for the 2 meals themselves. We were upset with the food, but also upset with service. This Cafe didn't even have the courtesy of giving cups of water/tea until you asked - a very uncommon etiquette. I don't understand why there's a line. Maybe the chef had an off day. Service was great but food was alright. Nothing bad about the reso, but i had better in the area (sorry). The pasta was much more tomatoie than what i would like, i see the cheese on top but cant taste or smell any of it. Chicken wings was good, but slighty oily. Tried this Hong Kong cafe out! Their menu has lots of rice and noodle options. Service was fast and the servers were attentive. I ordered N3 - Japanese 7-Spice Pork Chop Soup with Vermicelli ($11.78). The pork chop was good and crispy. The spices on the meat were good too. The only downside is how bland the vermicelli and soup was, but the pork chop flavours helped. Cold drinks are an extra $1.50. Lots of parking outside and there's a lot of tables/seatings here. The rice arrived piping hot with large slabs of pork bread under a sheet of sauce and cheese. It was exactly what I was looking for. However, the milk tea was not as smooth as I would have liked. Decided to treat myself to a nice lunch, heard about this new place already opened for a few months, can never get enough of "cha chaang tengs". Went during the peak lunch period, should have known better, luckily their was a table available, it's all about timing or just plain luck. When I opened the entrance door, immediately hit with a blast of ear splitting wall of chattering noise, welcome to the ambiance of Hong Kong style cafes. Perused the menu, so many mouth watering selections, decided on the cheese baked fish fillet/spaghetti with tomato sauce and Singapore fried vermicelli pork chop. Staff were quick and efficient, dishes arrived with minimum waiting time, upgraded accompanied drink to ice lemon tea ($1.50 extra). First impression, dishes were large, enough to take leftovers home for those who don't have a gluttonous appetite (no offense intended but you know who you are). Cheese baked fish fillet- negatives- minimum cheese, tomato sauce a little too sweet for my preference (can go with the option of the white cream sauce) Positives- fish was moist and flaky, large serving of spaghetti. Singapore vermicelli with pork chop - vermicelli very flavorful, pork chop actually came cut into pieces mixed into the vermicelli. Overall good service and very fast! Only thing I didn't love was the hk milk tea because it was lukewarm - you have to have it hot. But it was 50% off all drinks at 6pm on a Friday. The chicken hor fun had wok hei which was great and the portion size for the chicken rice was perfect. I'd come back to try other things on the menu! read more

Came by for afternoon tea on the Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too busy and was able to get a seat for two immediately. Restaurant was clean, service was quick and food came out in a decent amount of time. The milk tea was more on the milky side, wish it was a more steeped. French toast - French toast was up to par with the surrounding HK cafe. Wishing it was more crispy on the outside. Syrup and butter is the standard stuff, pretty typical HK french toast. Fried chicken thigh with fries - Chicken things were under seasoned and over cooked. The skin was so hard... the dark meat was getting close to dry... Fries were fluffy inside, but not crispy on the outside. Would not recommend Curry fish ball and fish skin soup with rice noodles - Rice noodles were cooked well, soup base was ok, but felt this bowl was a bit lackluster because it was underseasoned. The could have added more curry to give it more flavour. Nice to try. Overall an ok hk cafe, if I were to come back, I will have to try their stirfry dishes like the dry fry beef noodles. read more

Finally visited the newest hk cafe: Neighbourhood Cafe, located in the ever busy plaza with limited parking. I tried their baked dishes and it was decent They only have two choice of sauces for their baked dishes: tomato and cream (no pepper sauce). All their baked dishes come on a staub rectangular dish. The double sauces / double meat combo is more pricier than most hk cafes at $17.78, considering it doesn't come with anything else, not even soup. These items are also not listed on their menu but on the blackboard. Also, a drink is only included before 5:30pm. After 5:30pm, drink is extra I got the cream pork chop / meat tomato sauce combo with an egg. Rice was fried rice and was plentiful. Pork chop is not deep fried but fried. Meat tomato sauce was what was expected. I am wondering if this may be the same flavour as their tomato baked pork chop though or not . I really enjoyed the cream sauce more and might stick with the cream sauce in the future. I also saw a few tables ordering their pork hock dish. Decor is nice and reminiscent of hk cade and there is a lot of tables. Milk tea was not bad but I think it kind of sucks there are no drinks included in their main dishes after 5:30pm. Staff is friendly and they were fast too since there was barely anyone at the restaurant when I get there at 5pm. Pros: - clean environment - booster seats available for young children Cons: - complimentary drinks are only available until 5:30pm - pricey menu with no complimentary drinks makes it even more disappointing - difficult to find parking during prime hours Food: - satay beef noodle taste was probably one of the better ones we've had amongst other HK cafes in Markham/Richmond Hill - baked tomato chicken spaghetti taste was very mediocre. Went there for lunch on Sunday and ordered a beef brisket curry with white rice ($16.99). The rice, potatoes and onions were plenty but the beef briskets were few and far between. For that kind of money they are asking for this dish, I would expect at least a few mouth full of meat. Very disappointing. Came here for breakfast/ lunch on Saturday. Place was busy but not crazy line up. They have good amount of staffs, but they seems inexperienced and not very efficient. They couldn't clean up the table even though there were more than one table free. People just waiting at the door for no reason. I suggest them to get one of those iPad system to keep track of who's in line. The lady handling it manually was a complete mess. Everything was slow in this restaurant, and that's a big problem, because fast and efficient are the characteristic of Hong Kong cafe. Asked for cups of water a few times before we get them. A3- Rich Satay Beef Soup Vermicelli with thick egg sandwich-$13.78 with hot milk tea. - I would like the beef flavouring is good, though the soup was still bland. F1- Stir Fry Rice Noodles w/Beef in XO Sauce- $14.78 - One of the better noodles with beef we've had as there was good wok fire heat and portion is good. AT5- Curry Fish Balls and Crispy Fish Skin w/ Rice Noodles Soup- $9.78 - The toppings were good for this dish, but the broth is bland. The service and ambiance was a bit messy and chaotic to start but I believe that's attributed to the hype/FOMO train figuring out if this place is a worthy cafe to dine at, it eventually plateaued out to calmness by 2:30pm. This spot replaced what used to be known as Cafe Broadway. Anyway, I ordered SS2 for the table to share, no comments it was great but simple. I'd give that a 3.5/5 personally. My dad got the LB6 and he reported it was fine, alright. Nothing to write home about. Meanwhile, I ordered N8 and I would highly recommend NOT ordering that again. To say I'm disappointed would be generous. I expected maybe some kind of like chicken bouillon for the soup but it was straight bland pasta water--the pan fried chicken steak was so lightly seasoned I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a tiny sprinkle of salt and pepper.
