Best donuts ever! Coconut Donut is my favorite!. They also make great breakfast sandwiches! Won't disappoint.

My mom and I have to go down to Milford for pain management once a month and this is a must afterwards. The donuts are light and fluffy. They're not filling at all even though they're moist and not dry at all. The only issue I have with their donuts are the fillings, mainly the apple cinnamon filled ones. The ones I got felt like the filling was slobber. It was watered down, there was no apple chunks or anything like that in there, and the taste of cinnamon was so faint that I ended up throwing them away. This is especially sad when we live in an apple state that holds Apple festivals during the fall. Maybe they need to use a different apple or something. I'd be more than happy to show them how to make an apple cinnamon jelly that's flavorful. They're key lime filling was very good and tart though. They're cannolis are also the best I've ever had in this state and trust me, it's hard to find a good one in CT. The waffle shell was crunchy on the inside and outside even though the filling is resting on the inside. The filling is so creamy with a hint of coconut oil and vanilla oil that just takes the flavor to the next level. It's not like the filling you'd get at the grocery store or other bakeries where it's either a french horn whipped cream filling or a very thick and cheesy filling. Put together, this is the best dessert I've ever had. My mother has never been a cannoli person and she tried these and we both get a bunch of them to eat before we head home. The only problem I've found with the cannolis is that they don't stay overnight. I've tried multiple methods, apart from taking the filling out, to try and keep the crunchiness of the waffle, but it just gets soggy overnight. As I'm in a wheelchair, I can't drive across the state every day to get a cannoli. Even though you lose the crunchiness, the taste of the filling stays flavorful and even transfers a little to the waffle. I also tried one of their mini cheesecakes. I love that they don't bog it down with the graham cracker crust. It tastes so creamy like a normal cheesecake. I just wish they had little cups of fruit or something to put on top as I'm a huge fan of strawberry cheesecake. read more

This little gem of a donut shop/bakery is AMAZING! My wife and I are in town visiting family & friends, at one point the discussion turns to bakeries and the fact we want to enjoy some Great CT food while we back in our home state! Immediately our friend tells us about Neil's. I enjoy using YELP, so it was my go to information source. I was stunned to see 5 stars after so many reviews, and that alone made me want to try It out. Neil's is quaint, small, clean, and extremely friendly. The variety of baked goods will have your mouth watering immediately! The you see the fresh baked donuts, the selection is wonderful from the classic "Old Fashion " to exciting "Reese's Pb" . I wanted them all, my wife was desiring a white frosting filled. She was disappointed for a few seconds when informed that just ran out. Then one of the friendly employees asked "How many do want?" I will make you some! WOW!! Such service is so rarely seen now a days and despite a good line of customers they made her 2 donuts! The donuts are delicious, light, fresh, tasty, and great variety! Congratulations Neil's on sustaining your 5 stars! When I'm in the Hartford area, I make a stop at Tastease. When I'm in the Wallingford area I stop at Neil's Donuts. Two different donut shops that have their own stamp, but both amazing! How lucky to have two amazing donut shops to go to! Neil's donuts has quick easy service, but expect a line. You cannot go wrong with these donuts they're moist, fresh, delicious and simple. Best donuts in the area. They have a nice bite and chew the glaze is not too sweet. They have a good selection. The Boston cream was sliced rather than filled which is weird to me. No bathrooms that I saw and they took cards. Wicked busy on the weekends with an extremely limited parking lot. Was a dummy and didn't get coffee. While I wouldn't necessarily classify Wallingford as a "donut town" I do believe Neil has truly earned his consistent 5-star rating for the fare in this tiny local donut spot. Donuts are both a staple in the breakfast food pyramid for northeasterners and a treat one embraces as part of our "automobile culture" - probably more than any other sugary pastry you can think of. I find that people are often looking for a reason to take a drive and this spot gives folks from all over CT a reason to head this tiny spot, not particularly on the way to anywhere, and enjoy a New York style treat or a well-brewed coffee. This is the magic of Neil's donuts... you see it from the street with consistent line out the door, or you read the reviews on Yelp, and you think "really? all that for a donut?" and then you try it and realize "oh. yeah. that's worth it." It's currently the only "destination donut" in Wallingford and the greater New Haven area I'm aware of and is well worth the trip. I checked them out (finally) a few days ago and got an assortment of 6 donuts and an iced coffee. The coffee was incredible and, when I got home and cracked the box open, I decided to go for the Boston Creme and save the rest for my wife to try. The donut exploded in flavor, cakey texture, and deliciousness which led me to eat it over my sink like a rabid raccoon. I was filthy with donut and ashamed of my behavior but it didn't matter. It was so good. If you live within 50 miles and haven't tried this place you're missing out on something very, very good. read more

These donuts are the grown-up equivalent of "SANTAS COMING!" Since starting at my new job, people kept telling me tales of "Neil's Donuts days." People would tell me with their jaws locked and their wide eyes full of wonder, delight, nervous anticipation that one day, when I least expect it....BOOM....the donuts will be here. I thought, yeah whatever, all donuts are good, right? Then it happened...BOOM....3 giants boxes appeared, an email was sent...and an addict was born! These bad boys are fresh, slightly crispy, stuffed for the Gods, dream pillows. I "sampled" the lemon filled donut stick, the jelly, the vanilla crème filled, and the lemon meringue pie donut. ALL amazing! All of the fillings were the perfect combination of sweet, tart, and fruity, and there was no skimping on the amount of fillings! The donuts get cut in half, and then filled, so there is no chance of a half filled donut. Genius. I would like to say that the next time these beauties show up, I would be able to resist them, as I obviously overindulged in my first experience. But alas, life is short, and I deserve to be happy, and happiness is Neil's Donuts.
