Went to the downtown Neiman's this morning since it's the same distance as the Northpark location for me. Someone said to go there because there is never anyone in the store. Could not identify the parking garage. Squeezed in to ask the valet guy if I could valet. He wouldn't look up from his phone. Seemed very new on the job. Finally got his attention. Walked in to smell perfumes. Looking for a new perfume. Woman greeted me. Sprayed some samples on paper testers, got them confused and I had to ask her to write the names of them down for me in case I wanted to purchase one. She seemed very bored and uninterested. Headed over to exchange or return a pair of gloves. Not sure who the salesperson was but she was extremely cold when I approached her. She seemed a bit pretentious and - again - uninterested and bored. And could not make eye contact: She was not warm, friendly or helpful. Overall, I felt like I was bugging the employees?!?!! I got the feeling they are all bored and don't have enough to do ... perhaps this is why they are not on their toes and ready to attend to their customers appropriately. Won't be going back to this location again. read more

The Mothership. The Original. A historical landmark (built in 1914). Headquarters. Tucked neatly in between various high rise buildings in downtown Dallas lies the original Neiman Marcus department store. With all the other Neimans built in recent times the only time I ever come here is Christmas. If you are thinking of visiting this original location I highly recommend that time of year. To be honest in years past Neimans really went the extra mile on the Christmas decorations. They have scaled back in modern times and no longer do the annual Christmas boxes and Fortnight celebrations but it is still lovely to visit and see what all they have put up on display. This Neiman Marcus spans over 6 floors with tons to browse on various flooring. My favorite department is the fragrance department which is on the main floor. Here you will find sample after sample of the hottest and greatest smelling stuff that will leave you smelling like a French whore. More than one fragrance line creates "exclusive" scents for Neimans and you can find them here. There are so many unique gifts you can find at Neimans. A lot of the items are uber-expensive but you will be surprised what you will find here that is affordable. The staff is not snotty at all but warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable. They have a parking garage located across from the main entrance that you can park in for free as long as you get your ticket stamped. They also have valet parking for a fee. If it is your first visit be sure to ask for a tour. It will be a treat! read more

Oh, such a delightful store! It was just unfortunate I didn't have time to shop even though it was next to my hotel. We ended up taking the elevator to each floor and admiring the history of the store. Next time I'll be sure to spend more time and check out each department, especially the shoes! read more

I have not shopped here in 10 years. When I came back, it felt great to be back. The service was very good. Everyone was very nice and took the time to make sure i needed help. it wasn't very busy for a Monday afternoon. some of them looked bored but it's monday so.... I enjoyed the selections they had, and they had really good deals which really surprised me. Also check out their restaurant. i'll admit the service could be better. it was much better before but the food was good! overall, I would definitely recommend this place for anyone whether it's to shop till you drop or just to browse around and have fun at a beautiful historic building in the heart of downtown! read more

If you have any interest in fashion or even if you don't, stop by the original Neiman's in downtown Dallas. It is a fantastic store, with an old flair that cannot be matched in the mall. In the midst of all of that shopping, go grab a delicious lunch at the Zodiac Room inside Neiman's and enjoy the popovers and strawberry butter. Everything on the menu is fantastic and it is more than a "ladies that lunch" kind of place. Men love it too. Just remember that they are closed on Sunday. This is not your typical retail store. Also, avoid the bridal salon...although working on commission, they do not know how to treat customers. Kind of had a Julia Roberts "Pretty Woman" experience with them..."you work on commission? I live nearby this historic store and had to go there for some makeup supplies and ladies things ;)... I found some very helpful people in the intimate section who could point me to the perfect item! After picking up some items and bantering for a while one of the ladies called down to have someone do my makeup. This would make it easier for me to pick the items I needed to buy! The guy who did my makeup was hilarious and great at his job. While there they offer you champagne or water, the music is going and this weekend had a special offer. People stopped by to welcome me to Dallas, give me tips and local pointers. I have to say I was really shocked over how friendly everyone way and non-pressure oriented! The customers who were strolling around the makeup section have been going there for years and years, multiple generations. It was like everyone was just hanging out for a chat. One of the sales people has been selling products there for 28 years! You just don't find this kind of service anywhere else! It's worth every penny. For people who don't normally shop at NM you should know they only take Amex, their store card, cash or a check. read more

They have THE WORST shipping process. DO NOT order online from here. The people that help when you reach out literally do NOTHING to help. I was told I would receive my package on 3/17, nothing. They then told me Saturday the 19th, nothing. I call and speak with a supervisor again and they promise the currier said it will be there Wednesday (today) Still nothing. I can't even track my item. You would think such a reputable company would do better making sure your expensive items get to you on time but as long as they get their money that's all they care about. As a native, I have great memories of downtown Dallas. Back in the olden days going downtown was an event. I had to wear gloves and a hat (I told you it was the olden days...)! My earliest memory of Neiman Marcus is going to the Zodiac for lunch on my birthday. There was a fashion show and the models would come around to the table and talk about the outfits they were wearing. I was about 8 or 9 and felt SO grown up. I used my best manners and made my mother proud. Of course, I parlayed my being good into begging my mother for a totally unsuitable baby blue boucle coat with a removeable hood lined in white velvet and getting it! I still have the coat (it's an antique now...)and remember that day like yesterday! I have a 2 year old granddaughter and intend to pass that coat on to her when she is big enough. Going to Neiman Marcus downtown is different than going to Northpark or the mall Neiman's. Downtown is like opening a present when you go from floor to floor. You have no idea what you will see when the elevator doors open! What a treat! The visual merchandising is clever and understated but gets the point of view across the minute the doors open. You know you are in for something special. Downtown Neimans is an experience rather than slash and burn type shopping. No huge crowds and noise. It's quiet and dignified but still hip and cool. I love going floor to floor exploring and talking to the very knowledgeable staff to see what's new and exciting. The InCircle program is great, too. The special events are fun and they keep customers loyal with the program. If I am thinking of buying something from Nordstroms or Neimans, I go Neimans to get my InCircle points. Double points on my Birthday, too! It's easy to see why Neimans is the last department store still standing in downtown Dallas. (gone are Sanger Harris, Titches, E M Kahn, Wolfe Brothers and more) Downtown wouldn't have half the growing cachet it is getting without Neimans. read more

In case you didn't know, which was the case for me, the return policy is 30 days, after which you have no other recourse (or at least I didn't). I may be among a minority to believe that I should be able to return an item (in the same condition as I bought it, with tags on) anytime for store credit (I do understand that the reason for cash refund in 30 days). In any event, in times of a pandemic, the store should revise the return policies to allow for more time, as people have not been able to leave their houses. Obviously that is not the case with the great NM stores. Cancelled my account, have better places to go. read more

If you roll out of bed looking like hell and have to walk into Neiman Marcus to do a make-up exchange, THEY WILL ask if you'd like a "free" make-over. We all know what happens next... They make you all up to where you look beautiful and want to go out in public to show off your new look! Ha! I'm a sucker every time and end up spending money on make-up that I can probably do without, but it's fun to sit there and let the ladies pamper you and do their magic. Ask for Yvonne at the Lancome counter or talk to Anna at the Chanel counter. And these ladies are SO NICE! One of them even offered to put change in the meter while I got my make-up done! Who does that? They'll fix you up and take good care of you and you'll walk out happier for the experience! Trust me. read more

This Neiman is clean, spacious, and filled with perhaps overly friendly sales people. I get it, you're working on commission, now stop slathering my friend with lotion and using tricks to try to get him to buy it. I'm a scientist so I understand the science of why one hand will turn red after you rub it for a while while the other will be calmly white if only delicately brushed. While I was unimpressed, he was all set to buy the lotion, so I guess that's a testament to just how effective their salespeople are! In general, if you have $1995 to spend on a thin puffy vest, this is a great place to go. You will find that everything is in your price range, and you will be treated like you are the only person in the 1%. Alternatively, if you aren't hoarding money bags under your bed, you can still come in here and look around, but don't expect the sales folks to jump at your beck and call as they can recognize a $15 t-shirt when they see one. That said, they are still nice to us paupers, and you won't get kicked out as long as you don't look or smell like a hobo. The coffee from the stand under the escalators is quite tasty, so grab a cup and try to find something you can afford! read more

Normally, my shopping habits mean I don't enter "$$$$" stores. So I worked downtown for quite a while, before developing a love for this Neiman Marcus. How did it happen? Hot chocolate. They make it the good way, that I see a lot up north, but not really ever down here. They mix the chocolate and the milk BEFORE steaming, so the chocolate really infuses, and you also get some chocolate foam- bonus! The hot chocolate is probably a tad pricier than Starbucks, but it's so much better! And of course, being Neiman's, the service is impeccable. On one visit, my coworker and I were given a delicious cookie with our hot chocolates, compliments of Neiman's. Why thank you, don't mind if I do! The espresso bar is located on the ground floor, near the escalator and shoe section. It opens at 11 (found this out the hard way, and came too early one time). Payment- Neiman's used to take cash and only very specific credit cards (Neiman's Card and Diner's Card). But I believe they've now expanded. I can't speak for the entire store, but I can say that the espresso bar takes regular old Visa cards. So no longer do you have to have cash! And as Scott L. points out, the decor is awesome and worth checking out. Very vintage, but spotlessly maintained. read more

Neiman Marcus is fabulous shopping in any location. This "original" store in downtown Dallas, however, is especially unique. This is a 4 story, stand-alone department store, filled to the brim with the best available. An elegance not seen often and perfected long ago, this store embraces the bygone era of personal attention in an equisite retro setting. Particularly remarkable at Christmas time, when the artists decorate the windows akin to those in NYC. This year featured a tree made of $1,000,000 in shredded bills and includes a custom, intricately designed safe to conceal this spectacle after hours. Throughout the ground floor, countless gold leafed feathers formed butterflies dangling from the ceilings. If you're visiting Dallas or have lived here all your life, this is a must-see. read more

This is mainly a reveiw of the bridal salon which is beautiful. You will find all the name brands here and then somemore. Their changing room is gorgeous. Big and expansive, it is beautiful and you can take pictures all you like of the dresses which is usually not allowed in most bridal salons. The down side is of course the price (isnt it always?) But the customer service is impeccable. I walked in in jeans and a hoodie and was never slighted. Or asked "not to touch the dresses". I actually enjoy walking in with a sweatshirt and jeans just to see how the sales team reacts. Neimans in itself is a standing monument to the old glamour of Dallas. This is not a store to "pop in to pick up a dress" this is a store where the shopping experience is almost as important as what you come away with. Think Bendel's in New York. read more

One of my favorite locations! I always make an effort to come the day after Christmas because of all the sale racks they have out!! Street parking is easy. The garage is unnecessary, unless you plan to be there all day. This location isn't as crowded as NorthPark or Plano. read more

Sad days. I walked into Neimans at North Park wearing my bomber mink coat...everyone loved me and as they should. The days of glamorous shopping are behind us. The vision of grandeur has washed away. Beautiful and classy department store. It seems like lots of cities have their old school, fancy downtown department store. In lots of cities, they have gone by the wayside or failed to keep up with the times. Nieman Marcus has grown and expanded but their downtown store is still the original and is beautiful. It is expensive, definitely either a special event shopping place or just a place to take in all their amazing clothes and wish you had an unlimited budget (and also wonder who are the people who shop hear regualrly). The clothing is like artwork, but better because you can wear it. They also have legitimate pieces of non-wearable artwork. The inside of the store oozes luxury as the friends staff is glad to help with any questions you might have. The window displays are always amazing and celebrate local and international designers. I came into the store today to purchase a new scent. The ladies in the perfume department ignored me while talking amongst themselves behind the counter near the register. One was ion her phone talking about where she wanted to go for lunch. There were 3 of them and no other customers. I walked around the counter myself looking at different brands of scents and nobody asked if I needed any assistance. There was a particular Creed scent that a friend of mine recommended but I didn't see it on the counter. I walked back over to the ladies to try and get their attention. I asked if she had the scent there and she very rudely said, "It's in stock but there is no tester." I asked if there would be a way to smell it to see if I liked it and she said no. Mind you, she never even walked over to me. She stayed at the register the entire time. I haven't experienced such horrible customer service in a really long time. Neiman's did a great job of taking care of me while I was on my search for my bridal gown. I didn't end up purchasing here but I truly loved my experience. Only thing that I wish was different, now this was probably because I went alone, was that I was able to walk the floor with the stylist nor was I allowed to leave the room I was in. I was a little confused as to where my guest would sit, if I did bring any, since there was a couch and chairs in the room but I was also changing in there. Only then that! I've been made to feel uncomfortable and even unwanted by the makeup counter staff at lesser department stores. I've been ignored as I walked through Dillard's looking for a gift for my mother because I was wearing a tee shirt and jeans. This would NOT happen at Neiman's. I walked in wearing a tee shirt and simple black skirt and was treated as well as I would have had I been wearing a Chanel suit. Before coming to Dallas I'd read that the first Neiman Marcus was right in downtown! So I forced my family to come here just because it's the flagship store. While I can't say they had anything I'd necessarily want, besides their massive cookie selection at the downstairs cafe, I was impressed by how clean the interior was and by the real fruit in the displays (which my dad was quick to take advantage of). It certainly wasn't the highlight of my trip (since I didn't get anything), but definitely made my trip to Dallas all the more exciting! read more

Service was friendly and the place is great for quick lunch. It is close to work so I was able to walk there, but they do offer paid parking next door. This review is slightly hard to write because I had two difference experiences. I initially came in the store to look at some of the Chanel accessories. I walked in through women's shoes and looked around. I was extremely disappointed in the way I was treated. The whole time I was in the shoe department no one acknowledged me. I was not greeted nor was I asked if I needed a size. The workers instead congregated around one another and spoke amongst them selves while texting. Seeing that not one employee out of the 3 bothered to assist me I continued to the Chanel department. After walking into Chanel I noticed that no one was there so I looked around in the handbag section. I came across a givenchy phone case that I liked and wanted to see. However it was in a case so I had to search for assistance. I found a lady who worked in fragrances and she informed me this wasn't her department but she'd be willing to help me. She started to help me and then the lady in handbags Ene came back after helping a customer and offered her assistance. I told her I was there to see the Chanel accessories and she walked me over to Chanel. The items I wanted to look at were in the back and she had to go back and speak with someone in Chanel to retrieve the items. Now, what pissed me off was when I realized the lady working in Chanel wasn't going to assist in anyway. Unfortunately Ene wasn't aware of the items I was referring to and had to ask the lady in the back for assistance and she simply stated "the items are in a tray" I'm over hearing the conversation and can see that she's not being too helpful. However I inform Ene that I have pictures of the items I'm interesting in. I work with a lady by the name of Kelly in the Las Vegas store and she sent over pictures I just wanted to see them in person. Ene than processed to help me. I ended up buying a Chanel scarf and a givenchy phone case from her. And she provides me with her phone number if I ever need anymore help. I stored her number and the next day texted her to purchase a givenchy bag that I had seen the day before. But, since my in store experience wasn't the greatest. I didn't want to bother walking into the store again. So Ene brought my bag out to me in valet. Although Ene provided me with amazing customer service there were points of contact that were missed. And as a former Neiman Marcus employee, as well as a Neiman Marcus card holder for over 10 years. This is extremely ridiculous! Not the service that I'm used too. And sadly not the service that I would expect from Neiman Marcus. It's actually disheartening to know that I was overlooked several times before I was actually helped. This is a gorgeous Neiman's! Beautifully decorated for Christmas. They have a thorough women's selection and I was very impressed. I picked up a few goodies as a reward for Christmas shopping:) The men's department on the third floor was lacking which was kind of a disappointment as I was hoping to find some men's gifts. I ordered a nude color Fendi bag for a gift and paid for 1-day shipping. The color that looks like nude on the website is called "makeup." I receiving the bag 3 days later. It was a mustard yellow color. It's literally the color of the McDonald arches. Now, after working all week, I am on hold and I have been on the customer service line for 19 minutes. They did offer to reimburse the overnight delivery costs (even though it was 3 days late). I finally visited the original Neiman's and it was a wonderful treat. I live in Frisco and usually go to the Willow Bend location in Plano; they are always rude at that location and will acknowledge you if you dress in designer clothes (and let's be honest, in Texas you have to dress for comfort in the summer heat). When I went to this downtown location, I was looking worse than normal, but all the employees were beyond courteous. The gentleman in the shoe department let me know his name, how he could be of service, and offered my boyfriend and I water... which was wonderful because it was an extremely hot day! From now, when I want to shop at Neiman's, I am driving the hour+ trip to this location and enjoy the good customer service, rather than dealing with any other location I have been to where they do not treat you like a human. This review is only for the Chanel handbag and accessories department. Terrible service! I have been a collector of Chanel for a while, so been to many boutiques all over the world. This one is by far the worst! Dropped a bag off on 6/28, the sales assistant didn't know how long the cleaning will take which I understand, she promised to call me after she finds out. After a few attempts of chasing up, I've been told they can't do anything about patent leather, almost 4 weeks later. For real? read more
