I was really excited to try this place but was kinda let down. There is a wait but that wasn't any problem. Once we were seated the waitress took 10 mins to greet us and our food took 50 mins to arrive. I really liked the frito misto! the banana peppers are perfect! The sandwich baguette had lots of potential but the meat was cold. Outstanding! I can't believe we've never been here for dinner living across the street for over 5 years. We don't go out to dinner much cuz I've been in the restaurant business over the years and like to cook and drink at home , but tonight my wife wanted to venture out. We decided on Nellos . So glad we did! Sat at the bar and had the what I'd say was the best overall experience you'd want to have at a restaurant. Service was outstanding, the food exceptional. It's called the WOW factor. I'm a sucker for pizza. The kind that is made by a passionate pizza maker and fresh ingredients. I avoid chains and the line of frozen ones. I was referred here by another patron who shares my passion of toppings, rustic bright sauce, and classic chewy dough. Funny story- I ordered two pizzas yesterday. One cheese and another layered with fresh veggies. My family enjoyed a mere three unbelievable pieces of hot stretchy cheese and the like and decided to go for a quick swim. We returned to a happy pooch sitting between two eaten and proudly chewed up pizza boxes. Seriously! My pup pounded his pie hole eating both large pizzas. Grrrrrr... I couldn't help to repeat the order today because the pies were so good. Stretchy, house-made cheese atop a variety of toppings makes this my new pizza go-to. Their specialty pies are also unique. Chicken lover? Then order their crispy chicken sandwich. It's unreal and topped with slaw and dressing on a soft brioche bun. Their herb shrimp app is also filling dunked in butter and herbs. Nellos make good pizza but their service is very much lacking. Ordered a medium thin crust (because I couldn't order a large since they told me they don't do large thin crusts) but when I got home I noticed it was regular crust. Wanted to order a beer while I waited but the service was having a delightful conversation with her friends. When I politely interrupted her (after 10 minutes) she was annoyed. As a former Chicagoan, like so many of my fellow Phoenicians, I found Nello's Mesa location on Alma School to be an unreconstructed replica of a Northwest Side pizza place right down to the Milwaukee Avenue sign above the lavatories: that location serves a decent deep-dish Chicago-style pizza, pastas, wings etc., all the comforts of home. But the Ahwatukee location on Warner, also ensconced in a nondescript strip mall, is not that. Perhaps because of its tonier neighbors, it's... fancier: decor is chalkboard menus, pale woods, Emeco chairs. The menu is more upscale, like Wolfgang Puck decided to setup shop on Warner west of the 10. Let's call it APK: Ahwatukee Pizza Kitchen. I've never had a bad meal here, but in my mind, the consistently good thing to get here is not pizza (which is good) but the Bolognese, featuring luscious, wide pappardelle pasta in an absolutely unctuous tomato and parmesan meat sauce laced with rosemary oil. (Interestingly, did you know, you can't get pasta Bolognese in the city of Bologna? It's like the Singapore Rice Noodles of Italy.) read more

I have been going to Nellos since I was a kid and I'm now 39. Have always loved this place. Today's visit was just okay. I got a side salad with the house dressing. The dressing is amazing! The salad was a tad boring. There is no cheese but lots of raw carrots. I'd much rather have cheese on a salad even if the carrots were still there. I got the garlic butter shrimp appetizer. I LOVE this dish anywhere I go. When it was placed in front of me I immediately smelled that fishy stink. The shrimp was over cooked and the sauce was tasty but too much pepper. I have to say this won't prevent me from coming back but not sure I'd order anything with shrimp. read more

A few coworkers and I grabbed takeout from Nello's today, after being highly recommended by one of our peers, and we were not disappointed! We ordered three pizzas and an order of their Pork Wings. You read that correctly; PORK Wings. These wings were so unique you almost need to order them just to experience their awesomeness. The delicious morsels were extremely tender with plenty of meat on the bone and drizzled with a savory house made sauce. Speaking of house-made sauces, their pizza sauce was extremely flavorful, made from fresh tomatoes and just the right amount of basil for a perfect pizza sauce. Our 12" thin crust Sausage, Mushrooms, and Onion pizza was the first to be polished off by the group. While this was very good and clearly the favorite among the majority, I preferred the original crust. We ordered two 14" original crust pizzas: Pepperoni / Ricotta and a Meatball / Bacon. I agree with what some other folks said about the crust almost being "focaccia-like". It was light and slightly chewy with just a touch of butter. The pep was slightly spicy and generously layered underneath the cheese (how I prefer my toppings), with the Ricotta crumbled on top. The meatballs were excellent and made in house with full size strips of real bacon all over the pizza. You won't find any precooked microwaved bacon here! Currently experiencing some regret not ordering any extra for leftovers, but I won't make that same mistake next time! read more

It's been quite a some time since we've been to a Nello's. The old Nello's in Tempe was a favorite years ago. We stopped tonight after a baseball game and memories came rushing back. The pizza was great as was the cheesy garlic bread. I had a delicious antipasto salad. The little gal who waited on us did a terrific job. We stopped in yesterday (6/30) for dinner. We have never ate here before. My wife loves pizza - me - not so much. We had the deep dish deluxe combo. It was amazing! We took a couple of slices home and was as good reheated in the frying pan! It is likely the only place in Phoenix that I have had pizza that I want to eat again. A few suggestions - the service was pretty slow. They were busy but it was still too slow. It took over 2o minutes to get our food once seated. The staff was super nice but just seemed overwhelmed. I would recommend some place for folks to wait that is not out in the heat during the summer. Overall - great place to eat and we will be going back. read more

We have been loyal customers at Nello's Pizza on Warner for over 15 years. We have always loved the warm neighborhood feeling, and customer service as well as the pizza and garden salad.. We were in about a month ago, understanding the Covid protocol expected to have social distancing. Set down at the counter and moved my chair closer to my husband's. A women came from out of the kitchen and firmly told me I could not move my chair under any circumstances.. Once she understood we were together she backed off. Not 5 minutes later her friends come in and start moving chairs.. nothing but hugs and kisses.. Today, thought we would try it again, took a seat at the high table.. Same rude lady!! We ordered wine and olives to start with.. had to wave her down to order salad and pizza, ask a bus boy for two more glasses of wine and plates for the pizza. She didn't say two words to us, we even waved for the check. Spent all her time laughing and talking to the other two servers and the handful of men at the counter. This was at 3:30p Ish, the place was basically empty. Lost a good customer today! If management is interested, we wrote on the top of the ticket and left a $1 tip. read more

First of all this place is immaculate. Like they keep everything super clean. The service is good and the tables are bussed regularly. My husband's burger was delicious juicy and on point. My parm sandwich was good but a little dry needed more sauce and parm. The fries are super good, crispy and thin. The calamari and shrimp app was on point. We will definitely be back. read more

Never been to a Nello's before and swung by for lunch with some co-workers. I wouldn't say it was too crazy busy but enough to keep the servers occupied. Although limited from an options standpoint, the lunch special was perfect for us. Includes an 8" pizza with two toppings, drink, and a side/caesar salad for only $10! Really can't beat that! Everything came out quickly and absolutely delicious!! Cheese was melted so perfect with just the amount of sauce... mmm yum! We ended up staying for 2 hours rambling about nothing but we were never rushed to move along and the server was an absolute gentlemen always refilling our pops and waters. I ended up speaking on the phone with the owner of Nello's for about 10 minutes after my last review. He was glad that I actually called in like their response to the review requested. He genuinely cares about making sure that the quality of the food stays the same and is interested in feedback. He wants to make sure that you get a quality pie every time you go there. We went back last night for take out and it was delicious. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and it was exactly what you would expect from Nello's. Really glad to hear (and taste) that hopefully their quality control issues are worked out, and glad that there is a commitment to making sure that you get what you pay for. We'll be back! read more
