    Strawberry Lemonade Cake Shake
    Aja H.

Portillo's absolutely nailed the food, making for a genuinely delicious meal despite a few bumps in the service. The chili cheese dog was incredibly savory and flavorful, paired perfectly with the crispy, golden to perfection onion rings. The only feedback is to not roll the hot dog into the paper. To wash it all down, I tried the strawberry lemonade cake shake. While the taste was spot on, the texture wasn't quite my favorite. The restaurant itself was impressively clean and well maintained, though, the staff's attitude could definitely use an upgrade. The cashier was a bit curt during ordering, and the woman calling out numbers not only forgot my sauce but then awkwardly pretended not to see me standing right there waiting for it. Overall, the food makes Portillo's worth the trip, but a little extra friendliness from the team would go a long way.

This location is still pretty new. The interior design is very modern and fun. The staff is very kind. Even had someone stop at the table asking if I need anything. I ordered my favorite Chicago sandwich...Maxwell Street Polish deep fried, with tomato and hot peppers added. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as it once did. May the polish wasnt cooked long enough or that the onions were burnt, but the flavors didnt come through like I've experienced in the past. The fries were cooked to order so they were nice and hot. I'll be back to try something different on the menu. My next favorite is the beef n cheddar croissant sandwich.

Late night stop for some good food. We ordered online and the food was ready on time. We ordered some cheeseburgers deal which include drink and French fries. We also ordered the classic chocolate cake. Cheeseburger was good. Fries were cold. We had to warm them up and they still weren't great. Next time, will order onion rings and maybe they will be fresh. All in all, location is easy to get to. The inside has lots of seating. Will return when I need an Italian Beef.

Regular beef sandwich, onion rings, chocolate cake

I've been absolutely CRAVING portillo's lately and I had the time yesterday to go. I ordered on their app and got the regular steak sandwich (dry with gravy on the side), a side of onion rings, and a slice of their chocolate cake. The food was ready when I got there, which was awesome, and I chose to sit outside as it was a nice day. The sandwich was sooo good. I am picky about texture, so I got my sandwich dry as to mitigate any sogginess. The gravy was savory and delicious and an absolutely perfect way to compliment the sandwich. The bread, meat, and cheese were all flavorful - I chose not to include peppers. (*Side note - the regular sized sandwich was PLENTY and I reheated it today in the air fryer. The bread stayed fluffy and perfect). The onion rings were phenomenal. Crunchy on the outside, steamy on the inside. And the cake. THE CAKE BLEW MY MIND. Chocolatey, moist, light, airy... Holy moly. So good. I can absolutely see this place being good for large parties of people or families, or if you just happen to be hungry, coming here on your own. I know I'll be back for sure.

I broke my own rule again... I don't normally go to a new restaurant (even for chain) until they are open for at least 2 months. HOWEVER, for Portillo's, I caved, I showed up after a week of their grand opening. Why? Because! It's Portillo's! The best hotdog ever! Not gonna lie, the last time I went to a Portillo's was at least 5 years ago. First thing I noticed was the self-service kiosks. Love the concept, love that I skipped the line of people who are not familiar with the menu and want the interaction with a cashier. I did miss the merch section and the grab and go section until after I finished my meal. My partner and I ordered the original hotdog, chili cheese fries, and fish sandwich (not pictured because it's too good and we were at the last bite before we remembered "oops, photo!"). The portion size was just right. Pricing is good compared to Culver's and Angie's. Ironically, coming here is cheaper than going to McDonald's. I guess they wouldn't mind losing me as a customer. Bonus point: no more driving to Tempe! I'm a mile away from this location, and this will now be my routine lunch and dinner spot!

Their newest location! Food - Spice cake. Chocolate cake. The spice cake had a strong maple flavor. Soft and moist. I am not a big fan of maple, but I know others who are. I like the chocolate cake better. It was also soft and moist. Italian beef sandwich. The inside of the bread got soggy as usual because I got the peppers in my sandwich. I wish there was a way on the kiosk to ask for the peppers on the side. I thought the Italian beef sandwich with peppers had a better flavor than the version without peppers and the sandwich wasn't too salty. The bread had a nice spongy texture to it, except for the soggy part. This time the beef did not have some fatty pieces, which I liked. Atmosphere - Quiet. I am glad that it was quiet. One of their other locations is very very very noisy. When they announce the numbers for you to pick up your food, they make a little joke or pun. No strange or strong odors or smells. I did not visit the restroom. They have a Patio. Employee greeted customers. Service - I tried to order at a kiosk and it didn't work for the promo. I had to go up to the person at the front for help. After getting my receipt, I waited at the pick up counter to wait for my number to get called. I picked my order up and left. The service here was quick. I forgot to ask for the peppers and gravy on the side. I only realized after I got home. Order and pay at the counter or kiosk. Self seating. Friendly and helpful and knowledgeable employees. Parking - Similar layout to other Portillos. The parking lot is a bit different. Easier to navigate than the Tempe Marketplace location. Surface parking lot. No parking meter or parking structures. They should really have covered parking with solar panels or trees due to how hot It is in Arizona. Unique - I think the kiosks to self order are unique, but i like how ubiquitous they are becoming. I like to order on my own via the kiosk. Did not see a health rating on Yelp. Seemed clean and organized when I visited.

First time at this Portillo's. We arrived around 2:00 PM on Thanksgiving Saturday and it was 2/3 full. I had been to two other locations but this one had kiosk ordering, which made things easier for us. My wife and I each got the Polish sausage combo, with some subtle differences in toppings. In all, it came to $28.69. Since the place was hopping, it took nearly 15 mins for our lunch to arrive. The Polish dog, thick and juicy, was served on a warm poppy seed bun with fresh toppings. It was everything I wanted for my lunch. The onion rings were just as spectacular, with a crispy coating and big, thick slices. Return visit planned!

I had an Italian Beef and Sausage Combo. The worse I've ever had. My bread was hard the Italian Sausage was burnt and very hard. My fries were cold, got another order and they were not cooked thoroughly. I was given another combo and it was worse and very dry. Not a happy camper. They need to go to the Midwest to learn to make them properly. I'm just saying! Great service and very clean.

I love Portillos Italian Beef, and I am so happy that they finally came to Chandler near my house. I have been going about once a week since they opened. The problem is the staffs lack of ability to pay attention. I have had several issues getting the person at the register to enter the order correctly. Even when they get the order entered correctly they don't verify the order is correct. 4 of the last 5 trips has been missing something that was on the order. The previous time they left out 2 orders of frys, so I wrote to the corporate office. They apologized and sent me a coupon for a free side or dessert. Now mind you I told them they left two out of the order, and only returned one, but it's better than nothing. Well when I went to use the coupon on my phone the girl at the register didn't know how to enter the correct code into the register so she did a manual override for $2.99. The problem is that the strawberry shortcake was $5.49, so I got screwed yet again. To make matters worse they didn't include the extra Aju that I had to correct on the order. I told the girl I wanted a side of extra Aju, and she entered EZ gravy. Thankfully I caught it and made her correct it, but it didn't help. The other issue I had with the last visit was they changed their ranch dressing. The previous version wasn't great, but it was ok. The new dressing is almost all mayonnaise, and didn't have a flavor of ranch at all. They must not have tested this formula before they changed it because nobody is going to like what they have now!

    Betty L.

They have a kiosk where you can order at the front. If I have trouble I can always order at the register. Employees seem friendly. Their Italian beef sandwich is a little dry and plain without the gravy and peppers. I recommend getting the gravy on the side so you can dip your sandwich and it doesn't become soggy. The peppers are needed too.

The hot dogs here are fantastic! They easily rival my local favorite hot dog place, and there are several locations of Portillo's across the valley. The polish dog was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and like I already said, it was great! I'll be back for sure.

I took a bite or two and tossed it out. The salad itself from the build it yourself salad bar was okay but again, couldn't use ranch because of how off and unpleasant it was so had to substitute for oil and vinegar only. The service is lacking. Everyone the last few visits seems like they are trying not to fall asleep and half robotic. Zero interest in interacting and blindsided if you ask any questions. The restaurant itself is super casual, which I don't mind especially for deli food.

When driving and saw there was a location here in Arizona, I told my coworker this is where we had to have lunch! Walking in, we were immediately greeted and this location is beautiful. We were seated and definitely feel like a clean, new location to join the Chandler, Ahwatukee, Phoenix area. Excited to dive in as I had such a great experience at the previous one. What We Ordered: - Coke + Lime: my good ole standby. Carbonation was just right, and the lime adds the perfect balance of sweetness of the Coca Cola. - San Antonio Tortilla Soup (not pictured): My coworker friend ordered as she is a creature of habit when she sees Chicken Tortilla Soup. She was so quick to try as it was recommended by the hostess who sat us. She'd be the judge of it! And the verdict... she really enjoyed it and said that could have easily been her lunch. - Steak Taco: my coworker said they were pretty good, and very filling as she needed a box to take away as the soup was so filling. - Steak Burger: when ordering, they mentioned due to fat content, this had to be well done. That should have been my indicator to order something else. When it came, I was quickly disappointed and wish I went with the regular burger for the same price point. It came with tomato, lettuce, pickle, and onion versus this one which was pretty plain. Between it being fairly lackluster with toppings, the temperature on the cook deterred me from enjoying. Overall, I wasn't impressed with my food and was also disappointed this location doesn't offer cheesecake like the one in Jacksonville did. Perhaps this was a seasonal item, and I hope that it becomes a staple on all J. Alexander's nationwide as that cheesecake was DIVINE. A miss for me in terms of this visit, but my coworker enjoyed her tortilla soup and tacos so I settled on a 4 Star. I'd return and try different items next time if in the area again for work.
