I've lived in Ahwatukee for 4 years now and never tried this place until last night. The service was on point. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The patio is warm even in the winter. I ended up speaking on the phone with the owner of Nello's for about 10 minutes after my last review. He was glad that I actually called in like their response to the review requested. He genuinely cares about making sure that the quality of the food stays the same and is interested in feedback. He wants to make sure that you get a quality pie every time you go there. We went back last night for take out and it was delicious. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms and it was exactly what you would expect from Nello's. Really glad to hear (and taste) that hopefully their quality control issues are worked out, and glad that there is a commitment to making sure that you get what you pay for. We'll be back! read more

Delicious again. We always order the Fritto Misto + side of their housemade marinara. This mixture of calamari & rock shrimp is delicious and the marinara is IMHO much better for dipping than the sauce that comes with the dish. This time we ordered the 14" original crust Classic European pizza add meatball (DO THIS!). Turns out meatball was a fantastic choice and really augmented the rich flavor of this already-delicious pizza. We also ordered the 12" thin crust Wood Fired Yukon Gold + egg pizza to try something new. It was good but I'd like it better if the whole thing had egg on it instead of just the center. Kind of reminded us of breakfast. Glad we tried it but will probably go back to our favorite Pavone Pepperoni again next time. One daughter ordered an 8" Pesto Bianca pizza as well. She let me have a piece and I'll say it was really, really good. That pesto and the sundried tomato they put on there is really tasty! Pizza here is always delicious. Their traditional crust eats like airy focaccia, the right amount of pizza sauce and cheese. On this trip I ventured out of my norm and had their Cesar salad. I asked for the salad to be dressed (as it should be, IMO :-)) the salad hardly had any dressing. The croutons however were delicious! I also ordered the lasagna. It was definitely too spicy for me. Their Italian sausage was just a tad too spicy and either the lasagna or sauce was extra garlicky. The lasagna was also very dry. I guess I'm used to it having bechamel sauce. All in all it wasn't terrible, but definitely not for me. The bread that came with it was delicious though. We'll be back for the pizza for sure! read more

I recently went to Nello's Pizza in Ahwatukee and I haven't been in awhile, but I'm glad did! The food was terrific. I normally get my custom pizza, but I was recommended by my waitress Mo, to try something new. She had great insights to all the dishes and I was very satisfied with my choice. I've never actually dined in here, but have ordered takeout a half dozen times. Their pizza is solid. The Hawaiian was good, with thick hunks of pineapple. The sausage and artichokes was good but disappointing in that the 'chokes didn't have much flavor. A more marinated artichoke would have been preferable. The Deluxe Combo has been my favorite, have had it a few times. I've had both the thin and original crust, and I much prefer their thin (which is cut into Chicago squares, btw, while the original is slices). Their lasagna was very good. I highly recommend it. Bit disappointed though that ordering it takeout it didn't come with even a small wedge of garlic toast :( read more

We used to frequent Nello's often. We enjoyed their salad and pizzas. Staff was always good. About a year ago, things sort of changed. It appears they had some staff turnover; the food wasn't as good. Just a little disappointing. We stopped going. Not a boycott, just stopped. We went back last week, and I am happy to report it was a very good experience. I couldn't tell if they are still having staff turnover, but the food was very good. They don't cut their pizza in squares any longer, which is odd but doesn't really matter. The service was great, and the food was as good as ever. Nellos is back on our list. read more

Usually my husband and I have date nights at Arrivederci but we decided to go to Nello's Pizzeria for a change. The eggplant parm is to die for. My husband ordered it and I almost ordered another order all to myself! The Murphy pizza was delectable and I am definitely coming back for another slice. Brought kids food out asked if they could cut into squares, waitress said they had to remake it that couldn't run the pizza cutter through it. brought out other food , didn't bring one pizza out, and when it finally did come to the table it was burnt. Had a terrible experience with Postamtes tonight. Nellos excelled and exceeded my expectations they notified me of the illegal practices of Postamtes. They do not work with them and have many times requested to stop selling their food on their app. Manager spoke with me and tried to comp my meal I did not allow that to happen. Only door dash moving forward. If you have playmates cancel it they make businesses look really bad. read more

We have been going to Nello's for over 25 years and it has been our favorite go to restaurant. The food has been good and the service has been great. Our last visit to Nello's did not go well and we left before having a chance to order and taste the food. First of all, we got there on Wednesday at 4:30 PM for "fish and chips night" and we asked for a booth and were told there were none available. There were several tables empty and we were told they were reserved. Apparently you can make reservations now (never had the option before) and all these empty table were reserved. We asked the hostess if they still had fish available and she didn't know (that's why were there on Wednesday) and said we should ask our server. The problem was that we didn't see a server for over 10 minutes - no water, no welcome, nothing. After waiting over 5 minutes I asked another server if they could at least get someone to our table so we could get water and find out if they had fish available. We waited another several minutes and still no show of our service person. My wife left in frustration and on the way out I spoke to the manager who immediately threw a new server under the bus. He said our server was doing her first solo service and he apologized. I asked him why nobody else was looking out for her since this was her first night on our own. He apologized again, but I hold the manager responsible for the situation and they were not too concerned about the issue. While we waited for our server there were several other servers walking around together chatting amongst themselves seaming to have a good time. No looks in our direction at all, just busy with themselves. I had to get up and find someone coming out of the kitchen to get some help. This will no longer be our go to restaurant in the future and we may not go back, even for the fish fry. By the way, we had time to look at the menu which the hostess gave us and noticed that that items we normally ordered had a large increase in price - the large Salmon salad was $23.00. Price is not an issue with us, but we know others might want to know that prices have increased substantially under new ownership. We were always OK paying those prices because we wanted the restaurant to survive since it was our favorite. We are not concerned if they stay in business anymore because we probably won't be back. read more

We just had our 2nd visit to Nellos and have to say that this place rocks! Both of our visits have been during the pandemic. We felt safe each time! They are going above and beyond with sanitation. One person is dedicated strictly to sanitize booths, door handles and touched areas. Our server this last visit, I didn't catch his name, was tall with lots of curls! He was friendly and efficient! Food was mediocre. Service was most disappointing. Didn't get water or a server for 20 minutes when the restaurant was dead. Had to ask for a server and it took 10 more minutes. Got one water refill and that's it. Server did not care about us until we were having to tip her. 18% was EXTREMELY GENEROUS for the service we were given.
