Build Your Own 12" Pizza Gluten Free with sardines, mushrooms, black olives, basil, & pineapple
    Mabel R.

Nello's is a good option of your in the area and looking for a salad, wings, and pizza. Have been here multiple times. The bar looks cozy as you walk in and if I was by myself, that's probably where I'd go sit. As a party of two on this occasion, we were quickly greeted and sat at a clean booth by the window. The bathrooms are clean and I liked that you can open the door with your foot on the way out. I've had the wings here before and they are delicious. Their salads come in two options and the personal size is good as a starter. I usually opt for the Old World Classic. I really liked that they serve the pizzas hot and the cheese is melting as you pull it apart. Their gluten free pasta is good. I also loved the plastic free leftover boxes they provide. We were able to fit both our leftovers in one box. A few things went wrong on this visit. The restaurant felt a little too cold for me but my hubby most likely appreciated the extra chill. When we ordered our drinks, out server got our orders wrong and that left me concerned. We both ordered salads and while the Nello's dressing is pretty good, the salads themselves are nothing to write home about, leaving something left to be desired. We ordered pizzas and we both agreed they were missing a bit more tomato sauce, especially to balance out the saltiness from my anchovies. For my build your own pizza, I goth the 12" gluten free crust, then added mushrooms, black olives, basil, pinneapple, & anchovies. I opted for the anchovies as my protein because I was in a pescatarian mood and this was a $5 add on. I've had good anchovies before so I knew the potential flavor profile. The sardines were so salty, the saltiness overpowered all the flavors. While the pinnacle helped tame that saltiness, I think some acidity from some extra tomato sauce would have helped add balance. The flavor was good but I just couldn't get over the extra salt. Next time, I would ask for extra sauce. Ultimately, for how much we paid and our overall experience, we both felt Spinatos is a much better place.

Review is for takeout only. Will update after dining in person for full experience. Just moved to the area and decided to order takeout after moving all day. I got the Margherita 8" crispy and hubby got the Nellos wings and a Caesar salad. The pizza was the perfect single serving size, the crust was perfectly crispy, and the ingredients all tasted fresh. I will have to get a bigger pie next time because I want more of the center to indulge in all the flavors! The hubby said the wings are the typical wings you expect from a pizza place and he enjoyed the Nellos sauce and the slight char on the wings. Salad was good too. Definitely excited to come back and try other items and experience the restaurant dine in experience.

Brought my friends from out of town to Nello's and a great time was had by all. Our server was prompt, friendly and super patient when we needed more time to order because of catching up. Everyone (even the kids) loved their meals and it was nice to share a meal at one of our favorite places.

This was our first visit to Nello's in a long time! Why we stopped going across the freeway I don't know because it was FANTASTIC! For starters we made it for happy hour and received $2 off Specialty Cocktails. The cucumber jalapeños and prickly pear were both delicious and refreshing. We ordered the Sajone pizza--topped with house sausage, Schreiner's Pavone pepperoni, grilled radicchio, fresh mozzarella, and a touch of sage. The flavors were incredible! The savory sausage and pepperoni paired perfectly with the slight bitterness of the radicchio. The sage added just the right hint of earthiness that tied everything together. Service was friendly and efficient and the restaurant looked clean. Can't wait for the weather to cool down and enjoy the patio with the dogs. This place has been around for years, and it's easy to see why!

First night in Phoenix and came to this local joint that was such a good choice for dinner. We each had three pizzas, the Pesto Bianca , the deluxe combo and the arugula vegetable pizza and the Brusketta BLT burrata for the appetizer.

How is this possible? And the reports kept coming. Bronx native Chris Bianco had done the impossible, expanding authentic pizzas beyond the Mississippi River. The accolades and awards were endless, the critics raved, and even documentaries were produced. So we all started putting this place on our bucket list. I finally made the pilgrimage in 2026 to this mecca, this icon, this uber-famous destination. And it was worth the hype! The most beautiful red sauce complements the perfectly stretchy fresh mozzarella. Since I opted for the Sonny Boy, I was treated to high quality slices of salami and whole olives. The crust is thin, charred in various spots, slightly crispy on the bottom but still properly chewy. It is a thing to behold, ranking right up there with the best pizzas I've had in Italy and the states! I wish the olives were halved and not whole so they wouldn't roll off my pizza. But I didn't care. I even violated my germaphobic code for the first time in decades and snatched an olive off the table, it was that good! Because of its location inside Heritage and Science Park, there is a mandatory $10 parking charge for valeting plus a recommended tip. There is no validating inside the restaurant. But the surprise surcharge was also worth it!

The setting does a lot of the work: a large, charming garden with plenty of outdoor seating that gives the whole place a cozy, almost village feel. Inside, there's a small bar that's tough to get into, but it's really your only option if you're walking in without a reservation and don't want to wait an hour or more. The kitchen is usually the highlight. With an Italian chef behind it, everything leans fresh and well executed--pizzas consistently shine, and the salads are just as strong. This time, though, the bolognese was a miss. The pasta was clearly overcooked, which stood out given how reliable the food typically is--felt more like an off night than the norm. The wine-by-the-glass list is solid and approachable, and the many awards feel well deserved overall. A diverse staff adds to the cosmopolitan yet relaxed atmosphere. Even with the misstep, Cibo holds its place as one of the better all-around dining experiences downtown.
