My hubby and I made a last minute reservation for dinner on a Saturday evening, it was busy but not overwhelmingly so. It's loud in there though, they could use something soft to soak up all that echo in the high ceilings! They have a lovely looking cocktail menu and I think their drinks are reasonable priced! We ordered a small assaggini so we could try 3 things, Italian sausage, mushroom bruschetta, and the bacon involtini - which are bacon wrapped around a bit of goat cheese and smothered in a sticky and smoky glaze. Very good. We also had the calamari which are very crunchy with more of a breading than a batter and a bit more thickly cut than average but cooked perfectly! We then shared a carne pizza - SO good. The crust is super delicious and the toppings are of a high quality. The service was great, our server was lovely and attentive. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more menu items and getting another pizza! read more

I've been to Buco for dinner and brunch. I ended up sending my dinner back because it was overcooked (it was awhile ago so I don't recall what I ordered - some kind of roasted veggie thing) but they got me my something instead for no charge. Everyone else loved what they got. I recently had brunch and it was amazing. The French toast was crispy and but soft inside and the peaches and cream cocktail was my favorite drink possibly ever. My husband had the prosciutto and fig pizza that he describes as amazing and the peach mule. Service was good and the food came out really fast. I like that you can see the kitchen and fridges - you can tell they run a tight and clean ship. read more

Buco has been a stop several time for us both as a couple, a family and with friends. It definitely is boisterous and not a quiet dine in restaurant. We saw so many groups and friends having a lovely night which is so great. For dinner we shared the pick 3 appetizer and chose the tomato bruschetta, mushroom bruschetta and arracinhi. The risotto balls were good but not my personal fave. The tomato bruschetta was good but the mushroom one I could eat for days on end. I had the 4 cheese pizza which has been a fave. It has a delicious lemon flavour and is so simple. I did find the crust to be much thicker than I recall and wished for more pizza items instead. My husband had the meat pizza and he liked it. We came on a night where it was bring your own wine special without paying corkage fee. I'm a bit of a red wine snob and ordered a Toscana red. Nothing annoys me more than when you take a sip and can tell it's been opened and is not fresh. There was a large table next to us and honestly it was so busy. I just drank it. Our server was good but I could tell the large parties were overwhelming. I would still go again as it's a nice spot and I'd love to try the patio next summer. read more

Just had the worst experience ever. Made a reservation for 7:45pm. We were seated on time and our waitress took our order. After 35mins we still hadn't received our drinks. The waitress came to check on us and I told her we have not received our drinks, 15 mins later she finally returned with our drinks and I asked about our food. She said can you tell me the order again as it didn't go through. That would have been good to know when I asked about the drinks 15mins earlier. I heard about Buco from a coworker and although I was not feeling pizza tonight we checked out the menu online and saw many other things so we went. I think Buco will be one of "my places" now. We really liked it. Our server was lovely, attentive and efficient. We tried several things: a cheese and meat platter that was loaded with cheeses. We had to order extra bread to manage all the cheese; the cauliflower fritters that even our finicky anti-cauliflower friend had to admit were darn good; we had mussels and oysters and special ordered them done in white wine and butter instead of tomato (no issue with the special order), and finally the mushroom ravioli topped with arugula. Everything was delicious, mouth watering and left us wanting more. On Thursday there Is $6 glasses of feature wine. There's lots of parking. It's warm inside and although the chairs look small and sturdy, they are far more comfortable than they look. read more

There is nothing better than authentic pizzas with real Italian ingredients. Buco is the place to go. Located in St Albert , this restaurant offers a wide variety of Italian cuisine. An open kitchen gives diners a view of the chefs hard at work. 800 degree wood burning pizza oven is the main feature. Nothing compares to a pizza that's baked in a traditional fashion. By far this is the best pizza I have ever had. The staff is friendly and make you feel like home. Our server last night was great. While my sister's had wine , I ordered an ice tea . Place was packed on a Saturday night; came here for dinner with a large group. Was seated promptly and immediately served drinks. Apps (calamari and a salad) were well done, fresh papardelle was really well made and the lasagna was a perfect slice of layered, baked pasta sheets covered in bechamel and marinara. Finished with the sea bass - a platter of Branzino and other accompaniments - and the dolce piccante pizza. Admittedly, some of the pizza came home with us. I plan to eat it in a few hours. Don't get it. Given all these good reviews thought I'd give it a try. Had a disappointing experience. Went with a friend. Got a few bruschetta, a pizza and a pasta. Everything felt way more expensive than it should. Must be good. Got Pancetta Bruschetta, as recommended. Says great for sharing, but the irony is that they are individual orders. Doesn't make sense. In any case they were expensive for what they were. Bread lightly toasted, didn't really matter. Felt soggy biting into it. Not to mention overloaded to beyond bite size. Lost half the tomatoes on delivery. We also had spiedino (2x skewers with 2 chunks of meat) - bland and tiny. Don't bother. Pizza time. Expect to compare it to Famoso. Verdict: Don't get why I'm paying so much for something that is soggy and underwhelming. Famoso wins on flavour, quality and price. Maybe if you got to happy hour ($10 a pizza vs $18) - it might be worth while. Pasta. Friend had the pasta but had a taste of it. The lasagna was freshly made but again underwhelming. The culinary needs of St. Albertans are finally being met, thanks to Carmello Rago and the other restauranteurs setting up shop in the Shops at Boudreau. Buco, the newest edition to the Sorrentino's group of restaurants is exactly what St. Albert has been waiting for. No longer do we have to leave our safe haven and venture into the big city just to find a pairing of good food and equally good ambiance. I have been to Buco three times already and have really enjoyed each experience. Tonight we dined at the pizza bar where we had the pleasure of viewing the kitchen at work. The staff described each dish that came out with excitement. The ingredients are all really fresh. Sitting at the bar, you get to see the meats being sliced to order for the pizzas and charcuterie boards. The one thing that impressed me most was probably something that not everyone would even notice. The bowls of Parmesan for the pizza were high quality freshly grated cheese. Huge impact! Of course it will take a while to work out the kinks in service as it will with all new establishments. However, our server asked us for constructive criticism at the end of our meal and genuinely took it to heart. All you can ask for, in my opinion. read more

I had heard good things about this place so my friend and I decided to swing by and grab a bite to eat. I immediately liked the look and feel of the place. It is very contemporary, warm and has an open kitchen so you can see the chefs in action. It is a great place to have a glass of wine with friends but it is also very family/kid friendly. We ordered the prosciutto wrapped figs and the polenta fritta for appetizers. The prosciutto wrapped figs were absolutely delicious. The polenta was ok but I have had better. I like spice but everything was spicy and that kind of overtook the dish. For our main meal we had the parma prosciutto bianca pizza and it was excellent. There were generous amounts of prosciutto, flakes of parmesan cheese, tomatoes and arugula on the pizza. Unfortunately our server seemed a little out of sorts and didn't take our order for some time. Yes I admit we stuck to the happy hour selections but the Malbec I had was good. Wish I had written down the name. The service was great and super friendly. I had the mussels, while the red sauce was great. I think I would rather it on a pasta... The portion was awesome though. We also had the margerita pizza, it to was fairly good. Delicious food, and depending on the day you go there can be good deals. For example when we went it was $20 for a beer and an entire pizza. The best thing was that they have a patio, so it was beautiful to sit in the sun and eat delicious food!! Service did leave us wanting for sure. For the incredible hype that Buco has received, I was expecting more....especially when there are so many pizzerie in the city and surrounding areas these days. The above said, I would go again in hopes that a few things are done better....for instance, the Calamari Fritti--our order was SO overcooked they were the consistency of a rubber band :-( , a hardened one at that. The pizze were good, not exceptional, but good. One thing that should be changed is that if you are going to advertise a "Pizza di Bufala" then PLEASE use actual mozzarella di bufala (there are those of us that can taste the difference). Mind you, if it is REAL mozzarella di bufala, I won't mind paying the extra money....which brings me to my next point....the pizze average between 16-19$. Again, for the price point and overall quality, I think this needs to be revisited with the competition out there (Rosso, and yes, Famoso, among others). Our desserts were good (we ordered the Panna Cotta, Chocolate Mousse and Ricotta Cake), though I was disappointed with the Ricotta Cake....again, Ricotta Cake has a certain texture and taste....didn't get it. I've tried the Carne, Salmon, and Margarita pizza here before. They have all been good! The Carne and Margarita could use more sauce-- the crust was good but a bit bland due to the lack of sauce. The Salmon (white pizza) had the opposite problem-- there was too much oil on the crust and the pizza was a bit soggy. The Salmon pizza also could have benefited from less capers and more onions, and possibly a sweet sauce (such as honey truffle?) on top. I'd order from here again though! I stopped by this afternoon place with friends after work This is a nice trendy place near the Rogers Center. The prices are decent for an assortment of light bites. On friend ordered the chicken wings. Each wing was cooked to perfection with a breaded coating. The grated Parmesan cheese was nice but the addition of red sauce was not my cuppa tea. However, everyone devoured them in 10 minutes My other friend ordered the three appetisers for $9.00. They were very good and great for one person. I had the pepperoni pizza. It was great. Thin crust and fresh from a wood oven. For lunch you can get a pizza, soup or salad for lunch and be done within 30 minutes. I also found the place had a great selection of beers, wine and spirits. I've only gone to Buco during their pizza happy hour. Between 3pm and 5pm on weekdays they offer all of their pizzas for $10!!! That's just crazy cuz the average regular price pizza is $17 and the most expensive being $21. During that time they also have specials on their appetizers and a few drink (Peroni on tap and mimosa). Their pizzas are classic Italian thin crust done in a brick oven that is wood burning. The crust is appropriately chewy and crunchy but my concern is the toppings. Although they sound good on the menu I've been disappointed by the flavor and balance. The sauce is lackluster, the cheese bland and the meats minimal and missing flavor. In my opinion, the toppings is where the money should be spent in a pizza joint. And my expectations are even higher in an Italian pizza place. I do like the atmosphere of the room. It's a big open rectangle with a decent sized bar and open kitchen concept. There is also one booth which is elevated and would make any diner feel like they're on a pedestal. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Buco for lunch on Saturday. First impression was good. Restaurant looked clean and trendy. We were greeted within 2 minutes of walking in and and seated at our table. It wasn't overly busy and there was 1 server and what looked like a manager/bartender working. We were approached by our server upon sitting down and she was very sweet and explained the specials of the day. We said we needed a minute and she offered us water. We decided on a Peroni and a glass of Prosecco. We were happy with the 20 oz. Pints and the glassware was very nice. We ordered the prosciutto wrapped dates, a large Cesar salad and the Parma Prosciutto pizza to share. The prosciutto wrapped dates were okay at best. The cheese in the middle was still rock hard and didn't really seem to belong. They also resembled "testicles" as my boyfriend pointed out and it kind of turned me off. I usually love date appetizers and was quite dissapointed with these. The Cesar salad was 12$ it was extremely underwhelming. It was like they grabbed a Ceasar salad kit from the grocery store and plunked it on a plate. The croutons were hard and just like they were out of a box. The dressing honestly tasted like it came out of a jar. I could make this at home for roughly 3 dollars. For an Italian style restaurant this needs to be addressed. And finally, the pizza. Again, underwhelming. Nothing particularly wrong with it just not great. The arugula and tomatoes were fresh, the cheese wasn't skimped but the crust wasn't well done enough. It was rather soggy. We used the chili oil and an ample amount of salt and that helped. For a pizza place we were surprised by how average it was. We were still pretty hungry after. Overall, an average meal. Nothing spectacular. I would prefer Famoso. For 3 drinks and the food mentioned above we paid 60$ plus tip. Way too much to have to go home and eat again. Bathrooms were nice. No complaints there. I'm really surprised that nobody else seems bothered by the women's washroom! It would be 4 stars if it wasn't for that... First of all, it's a one stall bathroom, which seems tacky for a restaurant of this size. Secondly... The whole wall that faces you when you sit on the toilet is a smokey mirror. a) very few people want to stare at themselves while they pee. and b) the smokey effect gave the feeling that it was one of those two way mirrors. Obviously it's not. But I was really uncomfortable. When I arrived, I stood awkwardly at the door for a few minutes, and watched staff members walk past me. Eventually I stopped a server and asked if I was supposed to just seat myself. Turns out, they assumed that I was with the other girls standing at the door. Even though I was standing nowhere near them. Okay, moving on from the Weird to the Wonderful. I didn't catch her name, but our server was fantastic. She was really friendly. Cocktails were very tasty. We split the Caprese salad and cauliflower fritters. The salad was not very exciting, but I loved the cauliflower! Overall, the weird outweighed the wonderful for me. Great atmosphere, our server was very attentive and nice. I went for lunch no lunch menu so found it pricey. Ordered - appetizers Cauliflower, goat cheese fritters. 5 comes per plate. They were super greasy, and very salty. Calamari- no taste to the calamari, dip was different Pizza- Bianca. Prosciutto arugula- bland, I love pizza Bianca and try it everywhere I go. The crust was soggy and it need seasoning. Panini- was average Caesar salad was very good - dressing is homemade. Cannelloni - it was a crepe, not pasta tube. 1\2 order (1 tube) Overall. The food was below average. My sisters and I won't be rushing back. $140 for lunch is a bit much when your food is not amazing. But I must say our server was very good and attentive. read more

RETURN of BUCO Monday Night We came for bring your own wine night. Such a brilliant idea on this business' part for Monday's. They opened and poured our bottle of wine to sip on the patio this evening (no corkage fee). We devoured the appetizers of prosciutto wrapped figs, calamari fritti, beef carpaccio, followed by wood fired pizzas (Verdura, Calabrese, Funghi) and tasty desserts. Buco was really busy this evening. It seems that this hot new business has had a fabulous turnout from the moment the restaurant opened on the long weekend in August 2015. I noticed a couple who came in and discovered it was bring your own wine night. They promptly left and ran across the street to Hick's Fine Wine Shop purchased a bottle of wine and returned to enjoy it with their pizza. It's great to have the Shops at Boudreau supporting each other. The Buco staff were super friendly and pleasant to deal with. Definitely an awesome neighbourhood pizzeria in a lovely location. Only complaints are that I ordered two kids Apple juices and without telling me until the bill came I was charged like $10 for them. Also, I ordered pizza dough with just olive oil on it for my picky eater daughter and was charged for a cheese pizza ($14), whereas Famoso usually does that for her for really cheap or free depending on the server. read more

We went to visit Saint Albert and decided to try a restaurant in the area... The Italian restaurant is located in a new, posh, and modern strip mall surrounded by upscale stores and coffee places. The decor is modern, well lit, and bright. It was five when we got there so it was not busy. Howeverx we were told by the host thst it will get busier around past six. We shared antipasto, my partner ordered pizza and I went for tortellini soup and câprese salad. It took about 10 to 15 mins for the food to arrive. The antipasto was good. It came with bread, chesex and cold meats. It was plentiful for the two of us to share. My partner had the carni pizza. He enjoyed it very much. It was too large to finish it and he ended up boxing the leftover pizza. My tortellini soup was terrible... Whoever prepared the soup missed the flavours and made it up with salt. I was very disappointed as I was expecting something better for thst kind of restaurant. The salad.. The vegetables were extremely cold.. Salad should be fresh and at a correct temperature so you actually think they were just bought at the market.. Flavour was ok. But I have to say I was not impressed with my food. The person who cleaned the table did note that I didn't eat the soup.. He asked the reason and he apologized for it but he didn't offer to take the soup off my bill. My partner had to mention again tô the waitress so she can actually offer to do it. Overall. This was my second visit to Buco. Place sells one size of pizza. It is about 10" in diameter. Twenty One dollars for three toppings on a thin crust wood fired pizza. Toppings were good quality and mine was cooked perfect. Pizza tasted very good when hot. Crust got VERY chewy as it cooled off and the rest didn't taste as good cold either. You want to go on the bring your own wine night as the menu prices for mediocre wine is high. Fifteen bucks for an average size glass is pretty ritzy for the quality served. Service was very friendly and attentive but there were not many in the restaurant at 2 p.m. on a weekday. Would go back but there are other pizzas I prefer, like Tony's which is in about the same price range though not wood fired and there are many lower priced places like Famousa that serve thin crust wood fired pizza,. It was alright. A very nice interior and patio. The food was a bit slow to arrive despite us being the only group in there, and didn't arrive all at once. Some of us sat hungry for quite a while watching everyone else eat. We also questioned the freshness, as we could hear the microwave in the kitchen beeping almost constantly, and the pasta (lasagna especially) that arrived looked like the cheese had been melted in the microwave. I have eaten here a couple of times now and it is definitely one of St. Albert's hotspots right now. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait for a table. The first time I came, I didn't have anything to drink, and between my friends and me, we shared a bunch of appetizers, had full meals, plus dessert. The food was pretty good. It wasn't like blow my mind good, but it was definitely enjoyable. I had pasta, and it was tasty, but it was kind of expensive. It was very busy in the place, even on a weeknight. After a couple of hours, we basically rolled out of there feeling very full. I returned to Buco a couple of weeks ago on a double date with some old friends. One of the first things that I noticed was that the drinks were actually very expensive. The wine was so unreasonable, that I actually opted for the beer that was on special, even though it wasn't my preference. Like the prior time, we ordered full meals. The four of us shared a large charcuterie board, which was good, but they definitely didn't give us enough bread pieces for the amount of meat and cheese. I don't feel like it was worth $25. It was hard to get our servers attention if we wanted to ask for more bread. When our entrées came, I had decided to try the pizza this time. It was decent, but I don't know if I would say that it was better than Famoso, especially for the price. I ordered the same dessert as I had the prior time -- the chocolate mousse. As a warning, this dessert is pretty caffeinated and you'll be up for hours if you eat it too late in the evening. My take on this restaurant is that it's a little more expensive than it's worth. It's definitely more expensive than Famoso for pizza, and I would say that it would be more accurately described as being a three dollar sign restaurant. Apparently, on Mondays you can bring your own wine, which would be a huge bonus considering the wine prices here are pretty ridiculous. If the prices were a little bit more reasonable for what you're getting, I think I would be a bigger fan of this place. In reality, for pizza and pasta there are other restaurants where you can get much better value for similar food. If you're not aware, this place is owned by Sorrentino's. I had the pleasure of visiting buco on Monday, which was BYO Wine night, and tried two of their gluten free pizzas. And I have to say that I'm a fan--of the food, the atmosphere, and the restaurant in general. The pizzas were delicious, though a little crispier than I'm used to (but not at all salty or with a cardboard texture, like many other gluten free pizzas), and the BYO Wine special is a brilliant idea. We started with the warm spiced olives--perfect to share between three people as an appetizer, but be warned, celiacs...it does come with bread on the side (you don't have to eat it). We then tried the Ananas pizza (pineapple, prosciutto cotto, basil, fior de latte, pomodoro sauce) and the Pepperoni Funghi pizza (pepperoni, mushrooms, fior de latte, pomodoro sauce), while our gluten tolerant friend had the Pollo pizza (chicken, sun-dried tomato aioli, goat cheese, fior de latte), which she really enjoyed. The ambience at buco is perfect--whether on the patio or inside the restaurant. It's open concept, but you never feel too crowded next to other tables. And you can really tell that the staff is like a family; everyone seemed happy, our server was lovely (and very honest, which we appreciated), and the manager even brought us complimentary shots of peach grappa (probably because we were there for so long). I went during the 3pm-5pm happy hour so the pizza was only $10. I would definitely return during happy hour to try more of their pizzas. It'd be hard to convince me to go there other than happy hour and spend $20 on a pizza. That being said I likely wouldn't go anywhere and spend $20 on a pizza. The pizzas are similar style to Famoso. No disappointment whatsoever! Cauliflower goat cheese fritters were awesome! Calzone, 4 cheese pizza, carne pizza and a small cheese pizza all delicious! Our server Adrian took good care of us, and never left us with an empty glass. The decor is Nuevo Nostalgic and quite pleasant. We will be coming back again! read more
