The place was on our list for a very long time and at last we could go there for the first time. The interior design is old and looks like 80s but still cozy. Customer service was great and I paid attention to the servers. They were not only great for us but also they were making sure all customers are satisfied with the quality. Located in a small strip mall in South Edmonton. This restaurant has the history of being an Edmonton local business. The restaurant inside has an Italian theme decor. The service was prompt and polite. We ordered the Mediterranean salad to start. The salad was fresh and delicious. They brought complimentary bread. We had balsamic vinegar and olive oil added. I've been to Silician Pasta Kitchen a few times. They have a good atmosphere and attentive servers. The complimentary bread was decent with olive oil. I tried their Tortellini. The pasta is aways good here, tastes fresh. There hasn't been anything I have not liked here and their portions are really big, I usually need to wrap it up and take it home. My favourite appetizers are the mussels or the calamari. For entrees I prefer a white or cream sauce. If you go to the south Edmonton location, the decor is more old school Italian style. If you're looking for a more upscale style then downtown Edmonton is more suited for that. The restaurant gets quite busy on the weekends and evenings, it's best to make a reservation if you're planning to go during peak hours. read more

Like most cities, Edmonton has no shortage when it comes to Italian restaurants serving pasta. We have a wide range of options from high-end establishments to chains like Olive Garden or The Old Spaghetti Factory. There are also plenty of places in between. One such restaurant is Sicilian Pasta Kitchen, voted Best Italian Restaurant 2021 in the Edmonton Journal. They've got two locations which I believe both opened in 1995, however I don't think that the restaurants are affiliated with each other anymore. Their menus are different and they each seem to offer a bit of a different experience. (Do either of them actually focus on the cuisine of Sicily, one of the southernmost parts of Italy? I highly doubt it.) I decided to visit the south Skyrattler location of SPK because (for some reason) that one feels like the original to me. You'll find them tucked in a shopping plaza with their impressive green, white and red awnings celebrating their Italian patriotism. It's a huge brick building and surprising no one you'll find a large dining area on the inside. The expansive space is clean and modern with big, bright windows and a high ceiling. It's not too flashy but feels comfortable. There are some tasteful pieces of art around the room and I liked that the kitchen has a bit of an open concept to it. There's lots of seating, however on the Saturday night of my visit the place was busy!! I (foolishly) did not make a reservation and there was a momentary concern that we wouldn't be able to grab a table. Thankfully (whom I believe might have been) the owner moved some things around and found us a place to sit. It was very kind of him and greatly appreciated! Once settled in, our attentive server got some drinks going for us and I happily selected the Tuscan Kiss (New Amsterdam vodka, prosecco and strawberry puree - $11.00), one of their signature cocktails. I liked this drink a lot because it was light, bubbly, and fruity. Crisp and easy to drink, I especially loved the sweetness that the strawberry added to the beverage. This would be a great brunch drink, actually. Our server asked if we wanted some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and of course we said yes! Who says "no" to free bread?! This bread was also unlimited because once ours was finished we were asked if we wanted more. I remarked that it had been a long time since I've seen bread served with oil and vinegar in a restaurant and frankly, I've missed it! Two different kinds of bread were offered; one a focaccia style and the other more like a baguette. Both were soft and fresh. I loved ripping pieces off and soaking them in the oil and vinegar mixture. This is definitely a simple pleasure. Next I considered ordering a starter of some type and settled on one of my favourite salads of all-time. I am always quite pleased with an Insalata Caprese (Alternating layers of yellow and red tomatoes, fior di latte and fresh basil, topped with extra virgin olive oil and a black olive tapanade - $14.50). Right away I could see that there was no "alternating yellow and red tomatoes," as they were only red. This caprese was under-seasoned. It desperately needed a sprinkling of some nice coarse sea salt and possibly a drizzle of balsamic. The tomato was nothing special, although at least it was fresh. It seemed like a boring grocery store beefsteak when it absolutely should have been a good quality roma. Or maybe a beautiful heirloom. The slices of fior di latte were small, almost like they cut up a tub of those "cocktail style" bocconcini that you see at the store. Overall, I found this salad to be lacking in flavour, quality and value. The menu is very large at Sicilian Pasta Kitchen, boasting an extensive list of pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and various main course dishes. After combing though the options (and feeling pretty dazzled by the ravioli di funghi con tartufo which uses a white wine truffle butter sauce) I landed on what I deemed to be the best pasta dish on the menu. The Ravioli d'Astice con Langoustines (Large lobster stuffed ravioli tossed with langoustines ("baby lobster"), in a roasted red pepper cream sauce with fresh basil - $28.00) which is also the most expensive pasta dish that they serve. The plate looked gorgeously appetizing when it arrived and it ticked a huge box by offering me a wonderful-sounding lobster experience. Certainly the highlight of the meal for me, I enjoyed the plump, lobster-filled ravioli. Unfortunately, these did not taste like they were housemade but they were enjoyable nonetheless. I loved the creamy roasted red pepper sauce which was a perfect match for the dish. I was also pleased with the meaty pieces of langoustine within the sauce because they were quite plentiful. If you've seen a langoustine before, they truly do look like very small lobsters. I appreciated that they were used abundantly and I liked their unique texture and flavour. So disappointed. The evening started with a bad bottle of wine. It was clearly corked. Bad smell, dry brittle cork, very faint marking. The server asked the owner to come to our table to hear our concerns regarding the wine. He was very adamant that it was not the wine but us that were off. He did not taste it as he said he doesn't drink wine. When asked to smell it, he said it smelled like any wine. Finally, we asked if someone who knew wine could try it. As the Covid-19 pandemic is still going on, we decided to order through Skip the Dishes for tonight's dinner. Since we wanted to support a local business during this time, we ended up choosing this restaurant AND this location. (The one downtown does have a different menu.) Our 4 pastas took about 45 minutes to arrive after placing our order, which was on time. We were aiming for 6 p.m. and was getting hungry! I excitedly opened the bag to find a box on top feeling very light. Wow! What I found was two kinds of bread that would only be enough for two people but not only that, the three slices were very thin and the other three bite-sized pieces were hard and dry. These pieces looked like maybe it was an old bread stick cut into three. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! So out of four hungry people, who gets a slice and who doesn't?!! I know we didn't pay for the bread but it must usually come with the entree so why bother then? If we were dining in, is that all this restaurant would give us? I'm giving this review two stars as the pastas were hot, good portion and tasted good, not too salty as some restaurant food usually is. I haven't been here in so long. I needed to return to remember justt how wonderful this place is. Now I can't fault them on the parking here, but my goodness it's hard to find a place to park...but we managed to find a street spot. The Place was so busy but we were greeted right away and lucky to get a seat so quickly. Our server was kind and on the ball. She told us the features for the menu and took our drinks. It has been years since my husband and I have eaten here so we decided to stop in for our date tonight. I ordered the Ravioli D'astice con Langoustines which was so very very delicious. The sauce was so flavourful, as were the little bits of lagoustines mixed in. The Ravioli itself was also super tasty, with lots of delicious lobster filling. My husband ordered the Capellini Aglio con Gamberi which was also very delicious. I think the shrimp needed a touch more of the seasoning on it but the dish as a whole was very good. Portions are quite generous so we were both quite satisfied by the end of the meal. I also ordered the red velvet cake for dessert and it was ok but I've had better. I found the cake to be a bit dry, and too sweet. Needs a bit more of the cream cheese for the tartness I think. Service was great, we arrived quite early so didn't have to wait to be seated and we were served quickly, drinks refilled quickly, and our food came out fast and was nice and hot. What arrived was 3 pieces of shrimp, baby scallops hidden under a river of cream sauce on the bottom of bow tie noodles. Heavy is what comes to mind. Average taste, something I'd expect at Boston Pizza, except I would have opted for the spaghetti and meatballs at BP's instead. This is one of my favourite Italian restaurants of all time due to their delectable sauce in their mussels. Their Caesar salad makes my homemade salad taste like dirt in comparison. They use the finest ingredients for their perfect garlicky salad dressing and crumbled bread crumbs. Their ravioli makes you want bite after bite. Had dinner there on a crazy Friday evening. We had no reservation but they got us into their last table. It was packed! I was concerned how that might impact the service, but there was nothing to worry about. They were well prepared. Service was excellent--charming, efficient, and organized. Their signature cocktail, The Sicilian, was fantastic. The bread they brought was delicious and generous. For an appie we shared the arancini. It came four to a plate surrounded by a chunky, intensely tomato-flavoured sauce. So good!! For an entree I went with the lobster ravioli. It was amazing and perfectly done. Really good at his job- super friendly and efficient. We both ordered a pasta dish- I had the tagliatelle bolognese and it was phenomenal. My date had the penne and it was also delicious! (But I liked mine more). I also had a glass of the house merlot and I wish I had asked what it was because I loved it. The prices are a little high, but not unreasonable. A couple of weeks ago, Edmonton held its annual Fork Fest event, where participating restaurants prepare a set menu or select dishes of your choice for a price of $25 or $45. Over the two weeks (Sundays - Thursdays), I disappointingly managed to squeeze in one Fork Fest dinner, what with the cold weather, evening shifts, and changes of heart to prevent me from eating at multiple locations. On the last day of the event, Joe and I went to Sicilian Pasta Kitchen on the south side, as the downtown location wasn't a part of the Fork Fest event. For some reason, I don't recall ever going to either locations, yet there seems to be a lot of people who say it's one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The dinner for the week was a three course menu, set at $25. You could just one dish from each category: appetizer, entrée, and dessert from a set menu separate from their usual fare. In addition, bread and butter started us off, with the option of olive oil and balsamic, which I happily opted for. The bread was warm, soft and not toasted, and the olive oil and balsamic seemed standard to me. Nothing new here. I chose the bruschetta con bocconcini as my appetizer, the same French bread as before, brushed with EVOO and garlic. It's suppose to be topped off with fresh diced tomatoes, oregano, crushed chili peppers, and finished with slices of Bocconcini cheese and red onion then toasted. What I received (late, I might add; the order wasn't put through properly) lacked in any sign of cheese, and a warm mush of a salsa on top of the toasted bread. The first couple of bites weren't so bad, but by the second slice, the tomatoes had rendered the bread soggy. Joe ordered the salsiccia con arrostito pepperone - sliced Italian sausage sautéed with roasted peppers and caramelized onions in a tomato sauce with roasted potato wedges. The Italian sausage was spicy, and the tomato sauce was well seasoned and well made. I didn't mind the potatoes although Joe didn't touch them. What was notable about both our dishes was the portion. Ridiculous portion sizes for an appetizer! I was getting full just from that. My entrée for the night was a beef cannelloni with a tomato cream sauce. I thought the sauce tried to make up the lack of flavor of the cannelloni itself, and serving it luke warm was not very pleasing . I managed to eat one of three tubes of the pasta before calling it quits. It could have been worst, at least it wasn't dry, but it could have been much better. Joe's penne al diavolo looked a lot better. Although I personally thought the pasta was quite thick, he seemed to enjoy it. And the description of a spicy cayenne cream sauce did not lie, the taste of cayenne over powered a lot of other potential flavors of the dish, including the grilled chicken and shrimp, which I didn't get a bite of in my forkful, nor could I see clearly on the dish. Trying to blow through the entrée and onto desserts in hopes of better things, I ordered the blackout torte while Joe ordered the red velvet cake. Again, nothing special and again, I did not finish the dish. I think thus far on the blog, this might have been one of the most uninspiring meals I've had. Perhaps it was the set menu, or maybe a "C team" in the kitchen on a Thursday night, but I don't understand why SPK holds such high regards with some of my friends. The only bright side I could see with the meal was the portions, and even so, I'd rather go to Chianti's on a Monday or Tuesday to get my fair share of pasta. In my opinion though, I'd rather pay the extra few dollars per dish to get an outstanding meal versus a standard bowl of pasta. I'm almost tempted to say I'd rather go to Boston Pizza on pasta Tuesdays, perhaps turn myself into more of a foodie, as their most recent commercial advertises. read more

I thought that this Sicilian Pasta Kitchen would be the same thing as the one downtown but I was wrong. This location seems like a lower class version of the one downtown (which I am a big fan of). The looks and overall mood/atmosphere are close to being the same but I would say this one is a bit more kid friendly. The menu doesn't have as much of a selection either. The food, especially the entrees, is not even close to the quality. Even though I wasn't overly impressed the pasta I ordered was really good. It's no Koutouki's, the prices here are average for the kind of food, but still overpriced in my opinion. Initially our group was going to go to Il Pasticcio (I've read the former head chef of The Sicilian Pasta Kitchen is there now), but they could not accommodate the group size. The prices there were a lot higher, so needless to say some folks were a little relieved. Anniversary dinner first time at this restaurant. There dining area was about 50% occupied. Promptly seated with menus. Our server was prompt and asked if we wanted drinks. The drinks were at the table within 5 minutes. We ordered Calamari and Bruschetta Pomodoro for starters. We waited about 25 minutes for the starters to arrive. The Calamari plate was filled with deep fried pieces of Calamari some in rings and the majority of unrecognizable pieces of what could have been Calamari. Quantity not quality with this starter. Bruschetta came with about 8 pieces of warm grilled baguette pieces and a bowl of chopped tomatoes in an oil sauce. The oil sauce mixture was so overpowering with Basil we only had 2 pieces each. Ease up on the Basil already! Our mains arrived shortly after. My wife had Linguine Misculagio with pieces of chicken, shrimp and Italian sausage in a Cajun cream sauce. Plenty of food and the pasta was cooked Al Dente and the sauce flavorful: however my wife counted 3 miniscule shrimp in the entire bowl and the sausage was equally rare! My Pollo Parmigiana plate contained 2 rather large thin pieces of chicken breast with thinner pieces of spicy ham topped with an absolutely disgustingly over powering tomato sauce. Dry creamy over cooked Penne pasta on the side. There could have been any type of meat on the plate and I would never of known what it was due to the sauce. I could not taste anything else. The pasta was something akin to Kraft Dinner. One and done with this place. I ask that the manager not try to contact me asking for me to discuss the dinner because nothing will change! read more

Casual Italian dinner spot. Started with a caprese salad. Quite tasty, good portion but could use some balsamic vinegar to balance the flavour. Gnocchi with grilled chicken breast and cheese. Large portion size. Very tasty. Veal cannelloni with cream tomato sauce baked with mozzarella cheese. Very good. Extremely large portion size. Overall food was very tasty. Ambiance was good but the decor could use an update. The downtown locations provides a much better atmosphere. read more

Decided to go here on a whim the other night. Was lots of open reservations so made one for 15 minutes later and was seated promptly. The waitress took a while to come over and was still slow serving the drinks but she was super friendly. Since they don't make their own pasta, I ordered the Quattro Fromaggio pizza and my partner the lasagna. Food came out quickly and was piping hot. I used to think there could never be too much cheese but they've proven me wrong. I received some pizza crust with tons of cheese. The pizza was COVERED; almost to the point of being soggy. It was good for the first couple pieces but then the Gorgonzola became overpowering. Not something I will be ordering again. Luckily, my partner enjoyed the lasagna a lot. Not likely to return anytime soon but maybe in a couple years. read more

It was a Friday night and it was very busy, but we got lucky they had a table for two and we didn't have to wait long. I would recommend making a reservation. We went to Sicilian pasta kitchen because we were craving pasta! They have large portions and the food is tasty. read more

If you are looking for a place to take your date for a romantic dinner where both atmosphere and food are on the mark- consider SPK as a solid contender. The pasta is great, the seafood is fresh, and all the dishes I've tried have been well presented and rich in flavor. The beef lasagna baked with mozzarella was delicious but at times approached a bit into the salty side of the spectrum. Would I have it again though? Definitely. Shrimp and scallops in garlic butter sauce were impeccable. Pass on the Tiramisu if you are a connoisseur of the authentic style however, kids would probably love it. read more

Heeeere's a surprise. Sicillian Pasta Kitchen is a pretty decent place for Italian comfort food! My parents have been talking about this place for years though every time I'm in Edmonton, it never works out for us to go here. Just to make sure everyone reading this understands. This isn't Sicilian style food, it's North American Italian comfort food. It's also not Italian fine dining fusion either. We're talking lasagna, fettuccini alfredo, spaghetti and meatball type of place. On those cold Albertan nights when you need a hot carb-y meal to stick to your bones while your car heats up. I had the gnocchi with cream sauce and then they broiled mozzarella cheese on top. I know, super healthy, right? However, the gnocchi were soft, the sauce had just the right creaminess to it, and who doesn't like cheese broiled on top of anything? It's a casual family restaurant. Dining room is a decent size with several sections though you are fairly close to other diners so they can fit more people so it's not really an intimate experience but better than a Cheescake Factory or PF Changs. It's average in decor. It was a Thursday evening around 5:00 PM and there was ample seating when we arrived, however, the restaurant was full when we left. It's in a small strip mall that doesn't offer a ton of parking but is likely adequate if the restaurant isn't busy. They take reservations. It's a good option for the area if you are looking for a casual place with reasonably priced, larger portioned Italian food and a great place for kids too. read more
