    Pasta special of the night
    Carmen Z.

We stopped for a quick bite to eat on the way home from groceries. I don't know why it took so long for us to come eat here but now it's definitely a huge favorite and we can't wait to come back (as soon as quarantine) is lifted. They had the tables very spaced out and everything was cleaned and sanitized as guests left. We felt safe and satisfied with their covid precautions. The food is amazing! The bruschetta is the best I've ever had! The bread is fresh and crispy and between my sister and I, it was gone in a flash. As you can see by the photo we were so into it that we forgot to take any photos. We also had the pasta feature of the night that had spicy Italian sausage and mushrooms, the calamari and a bottle of wine. Such an amazing meal.

Rotini with chicken, mushroom and spinach in a creamy parmesan sauce

Tasty Tomato I love pasta. All kinds of pasta, I can't think of a pasta I didn't like... but my love must be in moderation.... so when I have a hankering for pasta I am particular. The Tasty Tomato is one of my top choices. There's a little parking lot right outside. It is centrally located. It's both roomy and cozy. The service is personal and unobtrusive. The food is simply delicious. I had a rotini with chicken, mushroom and spinach in a creamy parmesan sauce. The portions are big so I couldn't finish it but my companion did and he loved it as much as I did. Others are my table had the linguine vongole and the chicken, pasta with lemon butter. All was delightful. Monday to Thursday, bottles of wine are half price. Bread comes as a starter with oil and balsamic. The prices are pretty reasonable too...

Tasty Tomato is another neighbourhood Italian restaurant located on the west side (along with Piccolino Bistro) that has been around for ages. I've gone to this place many times when I was a youngin' and I'm happy to say it continues to thrive. Family owned and operated for over 20 years, don't let the drab exterior scare you away. Heck, the 50% off wine bottles sign (Monday to Thursdays) should be enticing you to step inside. Although it's hilarious that it's been up for as long as I can remember. We decided to go for a late dinner Tuesday night. This is home cooked, traditional, comfort style Italian food with a relaxed vibe and staff. Grab a table along the walls and you can car-watch the night away. The menu is absolutely massive (literally). One page full of appetizers, pastas and entrees (veal and chicken) and the back page has all the drinks. I don't think the menu has ever changed since I first set foot in Tasty Tomato, haha. - Amabile white wine (Italian) ($16.00) - 50% wine. Who can resist? We went with an Amabile white wine, which was light, sweet and fruity. - Caesar salad ($11.95) - the caesar salad was one of their daily specials. I haven't ordered a caesar salads in ages but this one was quite good. Nothing special but the romaine lettuce was crisp and the croutons crunchy. The dressing leaned towards the lighter side. A health caesar, so to speak. - Lumache alla paragina ($12.95) - escargot baked in a white wine garlic butter sauce. You get six pieces of escargot bathed in butter and oven baked cheese. An interesting appetizer to try. I would have preferred less butter but the escargots were tasty. - Lobster medallions ($16.95) - another special for the night. I knew I had to order it the moment the waitress said the words lobster and special. Those two words scream good eats. The sauce was delicious - light, sweet, and creamy. The medallions/ravioli was on point and there was a good amount of lobsta filling in each one. My favourite dish of the night. - Penne rustici ($17.95) - Italian sausage sautéed in a pepper tomato sauce. I had a bite and the sausage was a bit too dry. However, my buddy really liked his dish. - Linguine salmone ($18.95) - linguine noodles sautéed with smoked salmon, mushrooms, and sundried tomatoes in a rosee sauce. This one I preferred over the penne as the rosee sauce was tasty and the linguine absorbed the sauce well to give it a nice, uniform taste. Don't expect to be blown away by Tasty Tomato but if you want simple, homemade Italian food done right, this is the spot. A tad on the pricey side but I haven't had a bad meal yet. Bonus - another good place to eat on the West end of town.

Tasty Tomato is a staple of West Edmonton and for good reason! This family owned business is a perfect example of what good Italian food should be. It is flavourful, freshly hand made, and aromatic. The tomato sauce at Tasty Tomato is unlike any other. I love the creaminess of the sauce, and when mixed with cheese it is to die for. The place is smaller so I'd highly recommend a reservation ahead of time. Parking can be tricky in their lot, but park on the street and you'll be fine. Order anything! It's all delicious and incredible!

Since my favourite pasta place in Edmonton closed, I've been looking for a new go-to pasta place that serves fresh pasta. I tried the gnocchi and the rotini dishes and was slightly disappointed. The rotini was essentially pasta that I could have bought at the grocery store. The gnocchi was homemade and very fluffy but the sauce just didn't wow me. The cheese also just came in a pile shredded on top. The restaurant didn't open till 5, so we called and made a reservation on their answering machine. When we came in, we were told that they do not take reservations over the phone even though on their website it says they take reservations for parties of 6+. The waitress was friendly and patient with our larger group and we got good service.

So I go there today for final exam carbs loading, and legit....If I wanted cheap noodles and canned dog poop, I would've went somewhere else....this is not what I expected at all....will not be going there again I asked for Parpadelle and Bolegnese sauce....

Owned by a true Italian family. Everything is made in house. As one walks in, it is fairly casual and small. The seatings are nicely laid out with a nice selection of wines at the bar. Without a fuss, we were given glasses of H2O and some bread with butter. Typical. Nothing special about the services. If one had any allergies, they are more than capable of suggesting something off the kitchen which was a nice touch for my elderly friend who is allergic to garlics. The service were still fairly friendly. I had the Linguine Portafino. It was remarkable to the point that I even manage to finish the whole plate of my pasta - so close to licking up the plate though. The pasta was cooked perfectly to its softness. The sauce was beautifully done. By far, the best Italian restaurant I have been in a long time. To top it all off, I had the mango ice cream shaped like a flower. Smooth and silky. My palate and whole being was well beyond satisfied! Will definitely return to savour more of its authentic italian food. :)

Easily the best pasta in Edmonton! I often order takeout from here if I'm having people over and it's really good!

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

Place has "very fancy" feel and would be good for special events/celebration dinners. Free bread to start was fine but not the best I have had. I prefer mine with butter but the oil/vinegar is probably more typical. We tried the: Calamari: 10/10, great texture, loved that we got 2 sauces to dip in. Fettuccine Tavolino (cheese wheel pasta): 10/10. Boyfriend was not too full after. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Nice cheesy creamy flavor. Ravioli Alla Zucca: 9/10, I can't remember if there were 6 or 7 ravioli in the dish. Very pleasing presentation. In my opinion too many sundried tomatoes. I love that it comes with sundried tomatoes as that added some great tang/flavor. Ravioli themselves were perfectly cooked. Brown butter sauce was excellent and wanted more. Creme Brule: 9/10, exactly as expected, definitely enough to share between 2 people. Affogato: vanilla gelato was 11/10 good to me but boyfriend didn't like the flavor. We both agree the espresso was excellent. Very small portion (too small to share!). Free cookies at the end were fine. Overall food was excellent and I'll be back but to try something different on the menu.

Violino, in an old home, its staff, and the food exceeded our expectations. We will most certainly be making a reservation the next time we visit the Oilers hometown. Damn that was good! Ushered upstairs, didn't really get a chance to take it in, so will be sure to stop and look around next time. The complimentary bread was great, the martini's good although one glass had far more than the other. I ordered the spaghetti bolognese, and although quite different from what we make at home, was excellent! K had the Alfredo flambé which was fired up tableside. It seems to be a popular option as it happened 6 or 7 times while we dined. They also don't soak you for the privilege of the tableside presentation. It was a little cheesy for K, but excellent nonetheless. Our server Eugenia from Hamburg was excellent, she can serve us anytime. She was attentive, and her timing was exceptional! We plan on making a reservation the next time we are in Edmonton. Top notch experience!

Server was nice but never refilled our table water even after we moved it a couple times to be within her view of the table (my friend swears he saw her see us move it to the edge of the table too). Rialto Float cocktail was nice if you like Pisco. Royal Jamaican Ginger beer was good too. Olive Calde - large portion for price. Olives were fine. Calamari - 10/10 delicious, dips were great too. Gnocchi with pancetta - 10/10, surprising filling and even though the Gnocchi were huge chunks they were well cooked. Waitress recommend Campanella Aragosta - 7/10. If you like spicy it's fine but otherwise the flavor is actually very bland. Pasta itself was unique and well cooked. Large portion. Beef Brisket Agnolotti - 7/10, 8 large ravioli filled with brisket. Sauce was good, ravioli were well cooked but brisket inside was pretty underwhelming. Friend who got this dish was ++ hungry still after and said he would order something else next time for the price. Funghi Cipolla - 8/10, it was as expected. Ricotta cheesecake - cheesecake itself was great with the ricotta taste but crust was soooo bad. So overly thick and dry and considering our waitress failed to give us water the entire meal it was impossible to eat (so dry). Date cake - Unfortunately they didn't have gelato as was advertised on the menu to go with the cake so whipped cream was substituted. Was told this only after we ordered and friend asked for the flavors of gelato. Cake had a few uncooked flour lumps. Flavor was fine but not as flavorful/spice-heavy as I hoped. Sprouts on top looked really messy but tasted fine. Overall not a seamless experience as I would have expected from an establishment of this caliber.
