We also had a side of plantains which I enjoyed. I also ordered a smoothie for my son but it tasted like a milk shake with ice cream so we didn't drink too much of it as it's too much sugar for him. My husband and I were staying at resorts world casino and were in the mood for some Spanish food. Found this restaurant on yelp and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! We came in for lunch so the waitress informed us they had a lunch special, which was a meat of choice and 2 sides. The portion size was enough for 2 meals! Unfortunately I did not snap any pictures. I had oven baked chicken with tostones and my husband had pollo guisado with white rice and black beans. Everything had great flavor and was really good! Amazingly delicious, authentic Dominican food where you would least expect it. I randomly ended up at Nelly's while driving through NY state. I was getting hungry, but it was late and most restaurants were already closed. Enter Nelly's. Casual, hot plate pick your entry take out restaurant serving goodies like authentic, perfect arroz con gandules aka rice with pigeon peas (a must must try) and deliciously tender braised oxtail. Interesting little hole in the wall in Monticello. There is a parking lot out back. We came in around 11:30am - they still had some breakfast food out and the lunch food was just starting to be brought out. They keep it in hot trays so you can pick and choose what you want to eat. We started with rice and beans and a meat dish - I got oxtail and others in our group ordered beef stew or goat. Other options were chicken soup and a few kinds of beans and rice. They give you a lot of rice. Later on the plantains, lechon, rotisserie chicken, and some other dishes came out. Flavors were all on point for Caribbean food. Sweet plantains could have been a little sweeter but they weren't bad. Everyone loved the crispy lechon which was chopped up and served with lime. Drinks, flan and tres leches are available to pick up in the fridge. One of the ladies does not speak a lot of English but you can basically just point at what you want if you don't know the name. I assume you could also order from the menu, but we ordered based on what was cooked and ready. Prices were reasonable. We spent about 65 for 4 people with 4 meals, 2 desserts, 2 drinks, side of plantains and a plate of lechon. You order what you like and pay at the end. I came at 8AM, when they said they were open, but the door wasn't opened until roughly 10 minutes later. Food wasn't ready in the hot food section because it was too early. The only option for food we had was desayuno (breakfast) but this was made to order. This was fine with me because it was what I wanted to order anyway. Each portion was $5.99. The breakfast was a bean and corn mixture with fried cheese slices, two eggs and 2 slices of fried meat that is similar to spam. I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and would give it 4-5 stars. The tres leches cake was also good and wasn't too sweet. It had cinnamon which made it a little different. They had a long list of jugo (juice) options on the poster but there were only 2 options they had for us that day. I got tamarindo. It was refreshing, and tasty but too sweet. It may have been too early, but the restaurant was freezing inside and I could see my own breath. The windows were wet inside from condensation. I had nowhere to throw my trash because the bins didn't have bags yet. They were roasting chickens in the morning but they weren't ready to eat yet when we came. The 2 workers there didn't speak English so it was a bit difficult to figure out what menu items were available that early in the morning. Half of the restaurant still had the chairs up. It's not in any way fancy; it's like a very good neighborhood Latino restaurant. I have had fish, pernil, fried pork (unbelievable!) and a few other dishes there. All were excellent, though that fried pork, wow. It's essentially a pork belly cut the long way and fried. Primo pork dish. Been wanting to try out this restaurant for awhile now, and finally called in today to put in 3 lunch orders. There was a customer before me, and there was nobody behind the counter to serve him. The guy who was actually the worker was busy chatting outside the restaurant finally came in after I entered. His transaction took awhile, for a small order, and then it was my turn. It's already been 25 mins since I called in the order and was told it would be ready in 15 mins. My orders were not ready. And he said there's no beans. Wasn't told when I put in the orders. Wasn't offered other substitutes. Just dry fried fish with white rice for one order and pernil with white rice for the other 2 orders! i first tried this place 6/23/17. i was amazed the food was really good. i had the beef stew, i never had it latin style. the beef was tender and moist and they were generous with it, the carrots were fork tender and not over cooked and the potatoes were cooked well and fork tender, all was perfectly seasoned and the yellow rice is to die for. the workers there were very polite and welcomed me in and to the area since i was new here. if ever go to the casino again in the area, they will be my meal choice on the way there. read more

Tried something new today for lunch. Went to Nelly's Dominican Restaurant on Broadway in Monticello. Have not been there in awhile. Boy, what a mistake! DEEEEEEElicious! The fluffiest Tostones! Fall of the Bone Pernil! Moist Rice with Black Beans! It was a feast! And the serving was humongous! Definitely worth the money!! Had my homeschooling student with me and he had the Stewed Chicken with White Rice. He was equally as ecstatic in his description of what he was tasting. Plenty of Chicken drippings for the Rice made for an Uber yummy dish! All in All a super Yummy lunch for both of us. Will definitely be back to try other menu items. It was pretty good and good enough portion to share for my family of 4 with some leftovers (mind you my kids are 4 and 5). Price was $20 for the entire order.
