After about 2 months of shopping around and research to find the right 2008 Corvette for the best condition and price, I finally found "the one" listed on Nelson Automotive's website. I called and spoke with Matt V., and he gave me a detailed service and ownership history of the car. I felt confident that this was the right car and from the right dealer. Throughout the entire process Matt was honest and always gave me the time of day; I never felt rushed on the phone or in person. When I bought the car, I drove up from Indianapolis to pick up the car and it was apparent that the Corvette was a prized car on the lot, there were not as many other sports cars, but all cars looked to be nicely kept and cleaned. I didn't feel like it was a risk to buy a sports car from the Nelson Automotive lot, if anything I probably saved money due to not having to pay an additional markup from a performance-oriented lot. My actual time at Nelson Automotive was brief: Matt arrived early to the dealership to accommodate my schedule, even though he had plans for brunch with his in-laws later that morning. We took the car out for a test drive, talked a bit more about the history of the car, and the minor normal maintenance work they had done to make sure they sold me the car in excellent condition. I was thrilled when I got the keys. The paperwork took probably 10 minutes and I was on my way. The car rode like a dream. About 30 minutes from home, the clutch pressure went out and I had to have the car towed the rest of the way home. I took it to a shop and they determined the slave cylinder went out, and that it would be 2 hours of labor plus the cost of the part. I called Nelson Automotive, we were all shocked since this car drove fine. Matt took this information to his boss, and they worked with me on the issue: they refunded me with the cost of the part that I paid for, as well as the cost of the labor to have it replaced. Normally I would've expected that I would've needed to have the car brought back to Nelson Automotive's shop to have the work done in-house, but they took care of the issue in a way that was convenient for me. Overall, I was very pleased with the way they handled what was an unexpected post-purchase issue. I've now had the Corvette for exactly one year, and it's been a the best car I've ever owned. I've received so many comments on how great of a condition the car is in, and that it must have been well taken care of. Finding Nelson Automotive was a literal answer to prayer! Our post-grad daughter was driving 4 hours to return home for visits with her 1996 Toyota Rav 4. It has been reliable, but at 238,000 miles, it was time for an upgrade! Her limited budget was $5,000. 1st, we visited a Toyota dealership in the Schaumburg area. SHe found a 2003 Highlander Ltd. with 150,000 miles..loaded, nice. out of budget....Still considering it though, that is until her aunt found oil pooling under the engine when she took a look underneath. When they brought it to the salesman's attention, he insisted there was no problem and became argumentative. Finally they left. Disappointed and frustrated. The next weekend I found a $5,500 Highlander 2003. 150,000 miles on craigslist. It looked promising and was at a small dealership in Elgin. No frills. Good shape, no obvious problems, but I'm not a mechanic. I explained to the salesman that since my daughter couldn't be with me and needed to secure financing, I wanted a dealership to check it out first. I drove it to Toyota of Elgin. Jason (really cool service manager) said they could do a certified Toyota inspection for $125.00. I agreed (small investment for peace of mind). Jason called me the next day with the results. Needed about $800 in work but otherwise looked okay. Right after his call, the salesman, Konrad calls me telling me how he sold the car out right to a cash buyer! How unethical! I demanded a refund for the $125.00 inspection. He initially refused, but eventually, I got it back. NOW, I'm discouraged. Now I'm praying. Another week goes by and my daughter goes to Edmunds I go to YELP reviews. Then it happened! Prayers were answered! 2002 Nissan pathfinder 128,000 miles just reduced to $5,500 at a local Mt. Prospect dealership: Nelson Automotive. Strong dealership reviews and I decide to give them a try. This small, no thrills dealership is amazing! Matt greeted me and told me all about the car before the test drive. He had a Carfax ready to go. The car was just as advertised! Every question answered! Absolutely no pressure to buy. Matt suggested she obtain financing through a local credit union. Rates were competitive. Loan approved. Daughter delighted. Out the door after simple paperwork in about an hour! I had such a good experience at Nelson Automotive yesterday that I want everyone to know about it. My sister, who is mentally ill and suffers from anxiety, needed a reliable car to replace her 2000 Ford Taurus. I searched online to find something for her and, of the 9 descriptions I printed out, she chose the 4 cars that she was most interested in looking at. Two were in Schaumburg, 1 was at Nelson in Mount Prospect, and 1 was in West Chicago. After looking at the 2 in Schaumburg, we headed to Nelson Automotive to look at a 2011 Honda Civic. The gentleman who took us on a test drive (I'm sorry I didn't get his name) was very helpful in answering my sister's questions and pointing out the features of the car. Afterward we met with Matt Vogelzang, who was the perfect person to help my sister with this purchase. By the time she had come to the decision to buy, she was shaking, feeling nauseated and crying (and this was AFTER taking her anti-anxiety medication). Matt took it all in stride and his gentle, calming manner was just what we needed. He made the entire process as comfortable as it could be for her and took care of talking on the phone with her insurance agent to make sure the Civic was covered, took care of the registration and license places, and made it clear that he would help in whatever way he could to make the buying experience painless. The folks at Nelson Automotive are friendly, competent, and no-pressure. I felt that we were dealt with honestly and with compassion and that we paid a fair price for the Civic. Although Mount Prospect is quite a haul from Aurora (where my sister lives) and Elgin (where I live), you may be sure that when I need to replace my 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser I'll be checking out the inventory at Nelson Automotive. My experience at Nelson Automotive was fantastic. Javier and Matt were great to work with. I went in knowing EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not only was it there, but I was in and out within 90 minutes. There was a small snag with the vehicle and it was handled immediately. However they only had one key. Since it was a chip key, I had to get a spare key specially made. So I decided to get a spare key made at a local Toyota dealer (Arlington Toyota) on 1/12/19. At the same time, they offered to look over the car in their service department (at no cost) while I was waiting to get the key made. When about 90 minutes later after they finished my spare key, the service sales representative, Paul, told me that their service people could find no obvious problems with the car. Paul just had me pay for the spare key and said that for a 19 year old car it was in great condition! This I believe is a testament to the quality and care that one will receive at Nelson Automotive! Eric and his team just get it! They take the time to understand the needs of each customer and work diligently to satisfy those needs. I brought two cars in to Nelson Automotive for servicing. One car is the main car in the family, and I was going to fix it regardless of the required maintenance. The other car I made very clear that I wanted a "bare bones" approach with and would consider fixing what only truly needed fixing to keep it safe. Eric provided great advice, timely service, and approached each car with my requests in mind. He went out of his way to provide a number of options, including one that would save me significant money. The cars were fixed in a timely fashion and are working great. My wife and I bought a Toyota Camry (model year 2009) from Nelson Automotive (Heycars.com) in December 2011. Having visited a few Toyota dealerships prior to speaking with Matt at heycars.com, it was evident that the service provided by Matt was a cut above. He showed us the stock of cars he had, and gave us useful and unbiased advice. As a full-time international student without any credit history, Matt processed the paperwork without a hitch and was flexible in accepting the payment. He sold us the Camry with a personal commitment and warranty to fix any issues. And Matt was true to his word when we requested the replacement of the car battery because it had drained power as the car had not been driven for a few days. The battery was replaced within a day (at no cost) and the car drives perfectly. We would highly recommend our friends and family looking to purchase a pre-owned car. I'm happy to say I'm a repeat customer of this business. I was not in the market for a newer car whatsoever. Unfortunately, I suddenly became so when the car I'd had (a Prius - which I got from Nelson) was totaled in a car accident. Erik and his people were as wonderful to me this time as last time. Eric even offered me the opportunity to rent a car from him for a few weeks while the paperwork and other things went through. This saved me a lot of money versus having to rent from Enterprise or elsewhere! While I am a complete fan of the Prius, I unfortunately couldn't work a situation allowing me into another one. But the car I did find (a 2015 Nissan Versa SV) is AWESOME. I really do apprciate everyone there. It's a small business - that does everything it can for the customer. I've never had a better experience buying a car than I have at Nelson Automotive. Can't state that enough. Was referred to them, but almost didn't check them out. That would have been a big mistake. Not only was I impressed with the condition the cars were in, but the prices were very fair when compared around. Now a lot of dealers have those two things going for them, but here is what made them really stand out: I felt no pressure from anyone at any point. They allowed me to drive it to my mechanic to have them take a look at it without making me feel guilty for asking, like other dealers gone to have. They also have a 3 month, 3,000 mile warranty on most of their cars. There is no other dealer I've been to that has had all those factors going for them. Even if you don't end up buying a car from them, I fully recommend at least checking them out. You'll save yourself a lot of headache the other dealers will give you. read more

I visited Nelson Automotive to see a used car that closely matched what I was looking for. My experience at this dealership was much different compared to several others. After taking a test-drive, my salesman took lots of time to show me lots of information online about the car I was looking to purchase and my own car I was trading in. This was the only dealership that bothered to look under the hood of my trade-in, and they gave me the highest offer on my trade-in. They gave me all the information I was looking for and more. I didn't feel any pressure to make an immediate decision, and I wasn't there for hours like several other dealerships. I also was not bombarded with emails and phone calls after my visit. I ended up purchasing elsewhere simply because I decided I wanted a different make/model of car than they had available. We had a great experience here! We live in Wisconsin and found a Honda listed here at a great price. Obviously we didn't want to drive 100+ miles unless we were getting a good deal. Eric and I talked on the phone a few days before we wanted to test-drive. He was able to give me a good idea of where there was price flexibility and quoted me a number before we came down. When we arrived on a Saturday morning after a 2.5 hour drive, we found another buyer eyeing "our" car and possibly willing to pay full price. Eric made it clear to them that we had first dibs on the car and didn't try to raise his quote even though he could've tried to sell it to them for more - or get us in a bidding war. Honestly, he seemed genuine, nice and knowledgeable, and I never felt like we were getting the typical used-car-salesman schtick. I am very happy with my purchase from Nelson Automotive. Matt was my salesperson and he was great. I spotted the vehicle online and went for a test drive. I returned a different day to take the car to my mechanic for a full inspection and he gave me the a-ok. I was hesitant to purchase from an independent used car dealer, but they have good reviews and I liked Matt's low-pressure approach unlike some other salespeople I met. The vehicle had been on the lot for a few months and had been reduced in price two times. The only thing was some damage to the dash board. Had a great experience buying a 2012 Honda Civic from Nelson Automotive this past spring. We spent several months helping our daughter searching for her first car, and never having bought a used car before, the experience was pretty stressful. I was hesitant to use a smaller dealer, but after reading the reviews for Nelson decided to give them a chance, and I am so glad I did. After some negotiations we got a very good price on the car. Deal on the vehicle was good. I came from 5 hours away and I was sold a car with a tire the wrong size and three of the four tires with dry rot. One tire sidewall bubbled and got a hole 60 miles from the dealership. There was also slight damage to the vehicle that wasn't noted by the salesperson or highlighted in photos, nothing major. After speaking with the owner after a misunderstanding, he offered to pay for the replacement of my four new tires. This was very noble and much appreciated of them to take care of me after the fact.
