So good! We stayed in Buffalo for a couple days and took the opportunity to check out local breakfast spots, and this one did not disappoint! We split the Nelsons Breakfast, and it was absolutely delicious. Eggs scrambled perfectly, sausage was solid, and the homefries were chef's kiss (and homefries are my FAV). Pancakes were also really fluffy and light, just how I like them! Got oatmeal with blueberries for the baby, and it came packed with blueberries. Generous portions and great service. We stopped in for breakfast on a Friday morning. There are several signs posted so that people know they are cash only. I had heard good things about the cinnamon swirl pancakes, so that is what I ordered. I was not disappointed! I had the large stack which was three pancakes and I brought some home. They were delicious. My wife ordered eggs benedict which came with home fries. This is a relatively small place, and they insist that all in your party must be present before you are seated. WOW! Stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday after helping my daughter and her husband moved to North Tonawanda from Cleveland. Yvonne, our server was the nicest person you could ask for. I had the omelet special in the photo. Make sure you select the homemade Italian bread from Di Camillo bakery. Coffee mugs are meant for giants-just what we needed, and the coffee was delicious. Everybody was happy with their selections. The place was clean and neat, and simple. No complaints. Would highly recommend this place. We will be back next time we visit the kids. ;) read more

Food is good, when the restaurant is open! I swear I've gone 3 times in the past 6 months and it seems like they are always closed. My bad for not calling first to check. Even though they were supposed to be open today ( monday) they were not. I went there and locked up tight at 10 am. In the past it seemed like they had different hours of operation. Would give 0 stars if option. Rude waitress would not seat us until everyone there, then minutes later, we were all there. No more open tables. Asked her how long she thought it might be; "I don't know." We four locals will never go here again. Advice to tourists, don't bother with this place, aim for an eatery which caters to customers. We recently purchased a new home on the water near Nelson's Cafe, and we are thrilled to have a nice breakfast so near our home. The food is great home cooking & the place is really cute & clean inside. The only problem we had during a recent visit is the very unfriendly short haired blond server. She seems to favor what looks like regular customers (which we had planned on becoming). At best she acts like she got up on the wrong side of the bed & is totally unfriendly & curt. A surprise; truly a very nice after church Sunday surprise and no, it wasn't just because the fine people who invited me to come to Nelson's for breakfast treated but it was because this little River Road joint combined all the elements to create a comfy eat with friends diner. Nelson's fits that dated expression 'it seems like CHEERS' where everybody knows your name .... seriously isn't that the type of comfort you want in a diner? No, this isn't a secluded location for a romantic get away but instead it's all about comfort, feeling good, and yes a chance for a tasty breakfast (Well, that's what I had so I can't comment on their lunch menu.)? Take a look at the White Board before diving into the menu because you just might find your choice posted up for all to see. I discovered all of the usual breakfast options and it seemed like our table was going to be a 'pick one of everything' type of groups. Service was immediate ... coffee hot and even though we were a group of 10 (yes, we sort of took over a significant part of the dining room) there was attention given to all and in my mind that immediately makes breakfast out the way it should be. I really enjoyed the hash browns and my omelet was prepared in a way that allowed me to actually taste what was inside. Kudo's to the kitchen staff. One of my dining partners was enjoying the "Nelson Breakfast" with pancakes, eggs, home fries, and ham. A bit too much for me but it really did look yummy. An adorable little cafe on River Road. They were really busy for just opening which is great to see. The restaurant has been remodeled in a grey blue semi nautical scheme. Service was friendly and very efficient. I ordered the cinnamon swirl pancakes . The pancakes were huge and yes, you get exactly what you hope for with these - big swirls of cinnamon icing. My s/o got the steak and eggs. Steak was cooked as ordered and she stated it was a good cut. Eggs were perfect as well. The only issue she had was her toast and honestly this is often an issue for her. She likes her toast toasted just enough to melt the butter. It came pretty dark. Treated absolutely horribly by the staff the moment we pulled into the parking lot. The waitress walked right up to my car while I was unbuckling my children from their car seats. She was so irrationally angry she was visibly shaking and I truly felt secondhand embarrassment for her. An explanation of a policy we had apparently not followed and being politely told we would have to wait a bit longer would've sufficed (our buzzer hadn't even gone off yet) and we would've had no problem with the extra wait time. Called to speak to the manager who was equally disrespectful. She stated that we were liars and the confrontational server was a "great employee" so there was nothing she could do. My family and I are fixtures here every Saturday morning, it's hands down the best breakfast in WNY. There's also always a wait so be patient, it's worth it. I've eaten Colleen's cinnamon roll pancakes every visit for as long as I can remember. These things are so addicting. I've also had the Nelson's Breakfast which is 2 eggs over-hard, home fries, 2 sausage patties and 2 pancakes. For $10 you can't beat this. This was the worst service experience. I am a server and the the lady with the short blonde hair NEEDS TO GET A NEW JOB !!! I called to place a take out order and she told me one min then 10 mins goes buy and this isn't the first time she has done this. She plays a game to see if you will hang up first. So I drove 15 mins to the restaurant while on hold the whole time. When I got there and told her I was there for take out her response was she can't deal with takeout orders when she is by herself. I find that odd when you are a server and you can't take a simple order over the phone quick. She was rude and just a complete turn off. I wouldn't go there. She crappy server with attitude.
