From outside coming into this restaurant, did not expected this aesthetically pleasing restaurant. The restaurant was fully packed on a weekday, but they were somewhat short staff. Great service from what they can manage, it did took a bit to be seated. Menu was pretty simple which was great, ordered the com tam, which is like a typical Vietnamese rice plate. As well as they are known for, nem spring rolls. Food came out during a reasonable time, even with the max capacity of guests. The pork and rice were great, well seasoned and tender. The spring roll was a major hit. Decent large portions for an appetizer, great sauce, well seasoned nem.

This is such an amazing and delicious restaurant!! We've made the long drive multiple times because it is so worth it! They always have the nicest staff taking care of us and always has the most delicious rolls and food! My personal favorite is the nem nuong roll. They taste sooo fresh with such a crispy egg roll wrapper inside. Truly the best one I've had in Houston and I'd make the drive here just for that roll alone! Otherwise though their vermicelli, broken rice plate, and noodles are all equally delicious and you cannot go wrong with any of them! Their vermicelli has so many fresh vegetables, it's amazing! Although it is a small menu, everything is cooked so well and delicious. Definitely a must try and a staple for us to go to now!

Came to Nem 249 for lunch. It was empty and I was a little worried, but a few diners came in after and you could tell they had been there before. I can see how they have repeat customers already as a new spot, the food and service were great! Grilled pork had a nice smokiness to it and everything tasted fresh and crunchy. Their homemade sauce is good too, I put it on everything. The neutral woods and decor are homey and inviting, very pretty. Hope they do well here!

I have a feeling that Nem 249 will do very well in the Northwest Houston area. Usually when our family has gatherings or craves Nem nuong, we must drive down to Chinatown to fulfill our cravings. My mom suggested Nem 249 for Sunday lunch. We arrived around 1pm, but we were confused since it did not look like it was open. There was an open sign, but the tint of their window made it look like the sign was not on. Do not let that fool you, like it did for us. A young gentleman greeted us, and he sat us at the table at the back of the restaurant. There were two other customers since their soft opening just started on Saturday. The interior of the restaurant was nice, very aesthetic. I wish I remember to take photos of the inside of the restaurant. The menu is quite minimal, which I appreciate as it keeps things simple and prevents me from feeling overwhelmed by too many choices. We ordered two appetizers and shared one entrée dish. Here are my thoughts on the food. A1. Nem Nuong Rolls - 10000/10 - Made fresh when I ordered. The grilled pork was warm, and the fried egg roll wrapper was crispy. The star of the show was the sauce! It had a kick of spice to the sauce. If you like spicy sauces, you need to try their nem nuong sauce. I ordered an extra nem nuong for my husband, and he also agreed that it was good. A4. Goi Cuon Tom Thit (Spring Rolls) - Freshly made and individually saran wrapped. Cannot go wrong with something so simple, yet so good. M2. Com Chien Thap Cam (Combination Fried Rice) - Freid rice with egg, Chinese sausage, nem shrimp and mixed vegetable. It was good, but a bit on the pricey side for a small plate. Again, the sauce was good and had a spicy kick to it. M3. Mi Xao Bo/Hai San (to-go) - I ordered the stir-fried beef to-go for my husband. Stir-fried noodles with beef, broccoli, carrots, napa cabbage and onions. My husband had no complaints. He devoured the dish and had not a spec of food left on his plate. Currently they are in their soft opening until the end of October. I hope they are here to stay for a long while because I am still thinking about their nem nuong.

Food was delicious and appreciate the fresh ingredients. I enjoy the nem nuong chao tom rolls and have ordered for several parties and all my guests enjoy the rolls!!!

The nem nuong rolls looked shiny, which was little strange until I realized each was wrapped with plastic wrap. The grilled pork slice was hot and seasoned well. Each had a crispy wonton skin roll, crispy jicama slice, shreds of sweet-pickled carrots and daikon, and lettuce. The sauce leaned on sweet and seafood flavors. They have a disclaimer on the wall about it. I got the com tam. The broken rice looked and tasted like regular steamed rice. The small soup has tender chunks of carrots and wintermelon with a few springs of cilantro. Since I eat it with the rice and not between bites of the meats, it seemed a little bland, so I drizzled in a little fish sauce. The grilled pork is tender and seasoned sweetly. The pork-egg-noodle-woodear mushroom cake is hot and fluffy. The tomato and cucumber slices were fresh. The pork shreds were cold and soft. The fried egg was warm and had a soft yolk. The slightly sweet pickled cabbage was kind of crispy still.

Nem 249 is a fantastic new spot with a clean, modern aesthetic that feels welcoming right away. Portions are generous, the prices are surprisingly great for the quality, and the service is genuinely excellent. A wonderful experience all around--highly recommended.

The filling is placed in a pan and then a thin layer of batter made with tumeric and coconut milk yellow batter is poured on top. You wrap the lettuce around the bánh xèo/bánh khọt and dip it in the fish sauce. I got the bánh khọt and the bò né. Bánh khọt is like a mini, thicker version of bánh xèo and came with nine pieces. Their bánh khọt was crispy, sweet and savory, and went well with the fish sauce. Although the portions initally look small, they are very filling. The bò né was filling and sizzling when it came out. It also came with a side of salad. The meat was tender. I really liked the bánh khọt and would definitely come back for them. It's nice having an authentic Vietnamese restaurant in our area, close to us, so we don't have to make the trek to Bellaire every time we crave some Viet food!

I couldn't have been more wrong. Xeo Yum (#1) as it turns out is one of the most legit Vietnamese places in Midtown serving up some of the city's best banh xeo and banh khot. Located inside of a Food Hall (#2) in the back corner, they have low-key become a destination and without question, the most popular stall in the entire place. The fan base didn't happen overnight but is a direct result of Chef Cuong Nguyen's commitment to quality Vietnamese fare. Banh Xeo is their signature item, which is also known as a sizzling crepe or pancake made of rice flour, tumeric, and coconut milk. The banh xeo holds well, is perfectly crispy, and is nicely stuffed with an assortment of beans sprouts, shrimp, and some of the best grilled pork belly I've had. Another specialty item that doesn't get enough mention is their banh khot, which is similar but has a mini muffin / cupcake like appearance made in a specialty cast iron mold. This version is wonderfully crispy and pairs perfectly with fresh greens and fish sauce with some funk. It is my favorite item here. Some have argued they also serve one of the best bo ne (#3), the Vietnamese version of steak and eggs served in a skillet. The chunks of beef are nice and tender with just a tad of char, served with two fried eggs, and a banh mi baguette with a mix of butter and spare. Normally I think of spam or sausage included with the meats, but Chef Cuong's spin is with cherry tomatoes. It's a different approach and I'm not mad at it. Folks not looking for this can shoot for bo luc lac, aka shaking beef, which is also recommended. The staff here is sweet, hard-working, and very friendly. They also make a mean Vietnamese coffee and offer free iced self-serve water. The prices are what I would expect in a Midtown food hall, and there's plenty of seating. Anyone checking out the food hall need to make Xeo Yum as part of their eating itinerary. __________ (#1) A play on the Vietnamese sizzling crepe, Banh "xeo" and yum" (#2) Previously the Conservatory and now Stestí Food Hall. When I arrived there was nobody dining in the restaurant, that was a bit worrying, but I figured it was a bit early for the dinner crowd and late for the lunch crowd. Food & Drink - 4.5* First up was the noodles, I enjoyed them, but I wouldn't say the hype I'd heard about from some others was there. They had nice flavor, but there just wasn't anything "special." 3.5* Then it was on to the crawfish, and my oh my. Superb, the flavor is delicious and unique. This more than made up for the noodles dish. The potato and corn was good too. Service - 5* Solid. When I first arrived the owner was quietly reading a newspaper and eating his own lunch. He paused to greet me and advised that I could sit anywhere. He provided water and adequate time to determine what I wanted to order. The food came out quickly and he checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok. As time went by, the crowd of folks showing up increased quite a bit and he still managed to check in on tables consistently. Pricing - 4* This is where it was odd. Always subjective but I found the noodles to be overpriced for not only the size but what I felt was a pretty simple dish. The crawfish on the other hand was priced very competitively and made up for the overpriced noodles. I provided pics of the menu for someone to make their own assessment but in general I thought many of the dishes were pricier than they probably should be. I know inflation is certainly killing many businesses and consumers but even these felt a bit off. Overall - 4.5* This is definitely going to be one of my go tos for crawfish when in the area. The flavor is fantastic, the pricing is good, the size of them were solid. There are a couple of other dishes I may try on the next visit. The restaurant is clean, the owner is very nice, and it's a nice low key space to just enjoy a good meal with friends or family.

You get the rich, savory flavors from the caramelized fish, while the soup adds the perfect amount of sourness to balance everything out. Before we went, I called to ask if they served Vietnamese egg rolls since my friend was craving some. The guy who answered the phone wasn't the friendliest, but I decided to roll the dice anyway, and I'm glad I did because the food was solid. We started with the egg rolls. At $10.95 for five pieces, I thought they were a little pricey. They came out piping hot and fresh from the fryer with a great crunch, and the fish sauce was delicious. My only complaint was the lettuce--they only gave us one piece. What am I supposed to do with one piece of lettuce? The Canh Chua Tôm had the perfect level of sourness, exactly how I like it. The shrimp were a little overcooked, but the medium-sized bowl was a generous portion. The Cá Kho Tộ was cooked perfectly. The sauce was rich and savory with a hint of sweetness, though I would've liked just a touch more salt. Pair it with a bowl of rice and some soup, and it's hard to beat. Overall, this place was solid. Is it better than my grandma's? Absolutely not--but that's a tough standard to live up to. It definitely satisfied the craving, and yes, I'd come back.
