I have only done delivery so no idea what place looks like or the service there. Food is standard Indian fare one gets at every restaurant. It is maybe a little less spicy than average. Do get plenty of rice which considering cost surprisingly get very little at some restaurants. Flavor of meat is good and serving size is okay. There is an abundance of delicious dining options on S Charles St, but this restaurant caught our eye for its lunch buffet for $10.99 a person (pre tax and tip). Considering that this price was cheaper than a single dish for dinner at Indian/Nepal restaurants, trying this place for lunch was a no-brainer. I didn't know what to expect, since I had never eaten Nepalese food before. It seemed to have the standard offerings of an Indian buffet (although I do not have the expertise to distinguish the differences between Indian and Nepalese foods). There were salads, grilled vegetables/meat, fried foods (samosas, pakoras, and even fried naan!), chicken tiki masala, and more. They even had asian style lo mein for variety. All of the food was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. I loved the sauce bar, which offered a nice variety of sauces and side dishes (noodle salad, mint sauce, yogurt sauce, etc). For dessert, there was fresh cut fruits and rice pudding. The lunch buffet also offered us masala tea, which was a nice add to the meal. The ambience of the place was also nice - there were plenty of diners even on a casual weekday and plenty of cultural decor and music that made for great ambiance while enjoying the good food. In the past our go to was Royal Taj in Columbia, but after our visit here, we definitely think that this place can give Royal Taj's lunch buffet a run for its money (especially since this place is more affordable as well)! read more

I left my invisalign retainer (a clear teeth cover) there a couple weeks ago and one of the staff had the presence of mind to hold onto it for me! (He is really a lifesaver!) I go here for the buffet on the weekend. I'm mostly Vegetarian and I really enjoy the selection. Pakoras, Samosas, Kormas, Saag, Nepalese style mustard greens, Naan and soup. The choices are about 50% Vegetarian and I would guess there are about 30 distinct dishes on the menu. The deserts are delicious and I always eat too much. Galub Jammun (donut balls in honey) and a pudding usually. I can't remember if they have carrot pudding there, (If not, they definitely should). Besides the selection, the wait staff is all super friendly (but not pushy) and Prem the owner is a consummate advocate for Nepalese Culture and always greets you with a smile. We had the goat curry (not on the menu), but the chef made it for us anyway, and lamb momos (pan fried version). Both were very full of flavor, although borderline too salty. We came to this place because an Uber driver from Pakistan suggested this place for authentic Indian food. The lunch buffet was amazing! They had chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, and a lot of food. The food tastes different than the normal "Americanized" Indian food restaurant. The sauce is thinner, and the seasoning is not that strong but very flavorful, more like homemade style. The chicken tandoori was my favorite, the flavor is in the chicken and the chicken is very tender. The masala tea was great. We ate so much that we were almost in a food coma but it's so worth it. read more

First thing found the staff very friendly and attentive. Great food selection, even good for those that do not like spicy dishes. The samosa were fresh. I really enjoyed their lentil soup. The masala chai had lots of spice and great flavor. We went early in the evening and it was very quiet. Found the bathrooms spotless. It's a nice, candle-lit setting with great decorations. I like the fact the waiters give you sanitizing warm towels when you sit down. They're polite and courteous too. My only complaint is that it took a while to get the food out for me, but it might have just been one of those rare occasions (I've only been once). The food seems authentic, at least the Nepalese dish I ordered. It was tasty. My only recommendation is that you go with people, not alone, and plan to spend about two hours there. read more

I was so excited to try this place out but honestly from the delivery to the meal, I was unsatisfied. The delivery person called and rang for 3 seconds. When I tried calling back it went to voicemail and when I called a second time the phone service was not good so she didn't hear me. When we got the food, you get two pieces of naan for $4, so not worth the price. And the chicken tikka masala had 4 little pieces of chicken and was all sauce, again... not worth the price. The lamb briyani we ordered and the regular plain jasmine rice was probably the only thing that was enjoyable. Won't be eating here again or ordering from here again. read more

I've been going to this place over and over again and after a time it does grow on you. The food is always top-notch and does have much more taste than other spots around, even if it does lead to a smaller selection, especially during the noon buffet. The owners and the staff are very nice people - chatting with regulars and following closely your needs. Where they truly score points, it's in the vegetarian department - their selection has been consistently top-notch, wit very few disappointments for me (pasta is meh - but hey, it's also not an Indian dish). Really bland Indian food that's been dumbed-down for American tastes. Literally nothing but the lamb curry at the lunch buffet had any flavor to speak of. A good experience if you have the time for a leisurely meal. We enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere at the Nepal House. This was our second visit on a weekend evening. The restaurant was almost empty, and we told them that we had symphony tickets. It was about 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered and we had to wolf it down to get to the symphony. It's been a minute since I've been to Nepal House, and it was clearly way too long. My road dawg and I took advantage of a pretty decent Groupon offer that made the experience all the better. Our hostess was accommodating and friendly, and the atmosphere was as pleasant as I remembered. Now, on to the food: we ordered Onion Bhajia, which really got us going. Light, crispy and nicely seasoned. For the main event, we went with the chef's recommendation - the Nepal House Feast. And what a great decision that was! The Vegetable Pakora was tasty, but the Tandoori chicken, and lamb curry were perfectly seasoned and tender. The accompaniments were good, but it was ALL about the featured stuff. Best Indian food in Baltimore. I've lived in Mt Vernon for 8 years and this is by far the spot. Not only is the flavor and quality of sauce AND meat wonderful but as a spice freak this is the only place that when I want 10/10 spice with some vindaloo, it makes me sweat. Can't believe I've been eating here regularly for two years, both dining in and taking out, and I somehow haven't written a 5 star review yet. Nepal House is absolutely one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life and it's tied for first place as my favorite restaurant in Baltimore. Food is excellent, service is incredible, takeout is always on time and delivered with a smile, the restaurant itself is beautiful and in a really pretty area of Mount Vernon. Their shrimp masala is my ultimate comfort food so when I was really sick with COVID (I'm fine now!) I ordered some and put a note in for the food to be left at my door since I was sick. The driver who works for the business dropped off my food and then called me to ask after my partner and I to make sure we were okay and told us he hopes we get better soon! Like these are just good people who make good food and I honestly can't say enough nice things about this place. This is such an unpredictable time to be alive and certainly a struggle for small businesses, but Nepal House is doing their absolute best to take care of their customers and still offer world class service and food- and as far as I'm concerned they're doing a great job! read more

We are big Indian foodies and this place does not disappoint us ever. They have Thali (the dish with many little bowls so that you may sample a few different options) available for both lunch and dinner which is RARE, let me tell you. It's my favorite option and I ask for it everywhere and get turned down 9 out of 10 times but not here. Their masala sauce is also very good, I enjoy stealing it from my wife to dunk my garlic naan into. They seem to make things here with a slightly healthier touch then most places and I appreciate that. The owner is so very kind and the staff are relentless in hoping you have a good time and are fully served. Its refreshing and an ease to eat here; even on the night of Pride when the street outside looked like a rainbow of drunks. They've recently updated the inside so if you haven't been here in awhile, expect a smaller bar and better bathroom layouts. They also have a huge table in the back so bring your lunch crowd, your kids, your boozy brunch crowd and enjoy. Definitely enjoy all their side sauces and if you like it hot, try the spicy pickles. It's more of a chutney of sour, diced pickles, but adds heat and flavor to any dish. Yum!! read more

I ordered delivery from Nepal House and it was good! I recommend it. In the mood for something a little bit spicy, I decided to check out Nepal House because I didn't want to venture out into this cold weather we've been having. Delivery was 30 minutes earlier than expected, alright!! I had the lamb vindaloo and the onion naan. I recommend both, especially the onion naan. It naan is like most naan, but with bits of caramelized onions interweaved into it. So good! The lamb vindaloo was very flavorful, with a thick brown sauce to coat the rice it comes with. Spicy, but not extreme. The delivery experience was memorable for its timeliness and the sustainable containers were a welcome change from typical styrofoam delivery fare. The food came in a brown paper bag, no plastic! The containers were either foil or polypropylene thermoplastic. Those polypropylene containers are very reusable and recyclable, a benefit to the environment. Try out this newish spot and you won't be let down. read more

After a much heralded renovation of what used to be Mughal Garden, I decided to sample Nepal House's menu by way of their buffet and taste for myself what they offer the Baltimore food scene. The Décor: Brick walls painted white, an artificial fireplace near the back, framed posters and assorted culinary baubles throughout gave a pleasant enough impression; nothing trendsetting but the space was clean. The Staff: The waitstaff were very attentive and ever present, at times becoming a nuisance. Every five minutes someone would appear tableside asking if I wanted more water even when the glass was still full. In fact, the equally overeager maître d' brought the check while I was still eating. The Food: To quote their website, "... Authentic Indian, Nepali, Pakistani and Bengali Cuisine ... visit us for the real taste of Himalayas and you will never the authentic taste, we promise." The Saturday buffet offered about 16 items and contradicted the restaurants' claims of authentic food with two vegetarian entrees, "mixed vegetables" and "pasta," (actually Lo Mein) that were nothing more than run-of-the-mill Americanized Chinese food. The fruit, papaya and honeydew, were both underripe. The salad was blasé and some entrées were simply forgettable. However. The samosas had a golden brown exterior with a soft lightly seasoned filling. Sweetened and unsweetened masala chai were available - a fragrant blend of cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper and cloves that left a lingering warmth. Organic mustard greens had been prepared with whole chili peppers and while tender still retained their vibrant color and texture - I went back for seconds. The rice pudding was creamy and delicate with plump golden raisins, coconut, sliced almonds, and a hint of cardamom. Bless the chef who made the rajma; it was sublime! Spicy, aromatic, balanced and lovingly prepared. A sensory experience that left me sated and contemplative. The kind of food you crave and think about long after you've finished the last bite and wiped the plate clean. read more

I am always on the lookout for delicious Indian food and boy, was I happy we finally tried Nepal house! Where do I even begin?! The food- Amazing! So fragrant and flavorful with very generous portions! The rice is also infused with spices like cardamon and cloves along with veggies. They were also very accommodating. My girlfriend cannot have any garlic or onion so they customized three dishes from scratch for us! We had the Paneer tikka masala (they replaced the chicken with paneer because we are also vegetarian), Bhindi Masala (okra dish), Eggplant Bharta. I highly recommend their tikka masala. It is probably the best I have had in Baltimore to be honest! The other two veggie dishes we got were also very delicious and fused well together with our meal. This is my new favorite restaurant! I contacted Nepal House last minute and requested for them to prepare a very large dinner with only a few hours notice and they made it happen! Kabita was so helpful and offered recommendations when I was unsure of what to order. She was able to prepare a chicken dish, a vegetarian dish, an appetizer, naan, and mango lassi, catered style. Everything was perfect. She provided excellent customer service and truly cared about making my boyfriend's birthday very special. The food was as delicious as all of the other 5 star reviews say it is. The flavor of the food was phenomenal and their naan is the best I've ever had. Hidden gem! If you're tired of eating mediocre overpriced food, this is your new spot in Mt. Vernon. Friendly owners, a nicely done spot. Lots of artificial flowers but don't let that fool you. The flavor is legit and spiciness is real. They have four spicy categories-I love eating hot, but opted for the 3/4 spicy and it was still really spicy. Naan not provided unless you get it. Man, I have been looking for a place that does amazing South Asian food place well, especially biryani. I no longer have a reason to drive all the way out to the county to get a decent biryani; what we had here was superb. Met the owner briefly before I got to pick up my carry out order; he was a very nice man and offered me masala chai as I waited for my order to be done. As my order comes back, he gave us gulab jamon, which was really good, as a parting gift. It may be of concern to some, but all the food is halal. For folks that care, that is pretty awesome. The decor might be a little dated on the inside, but that food is amazing. That alone will bring me back time and time again. read more

I eat Indian food once or twice a week. Baltimore has many, many, many options. Most of these options are of the Nepalese/Himalayan variety, which means I always have to ask for my dishes to be prepared with extra heat. Nepal house is the first restaurant to respond, and prepare the food as spicy as I need it without ruining the other flavors. The food is otherwise always extremely well prepared. I have found the last probably 8 to 10 times I've wanted Indian, I've either gone to Nepal house or ordered from there, to the exclusion of even Indigma and Lumbini's. This is a pretty big shift for me! There's an old rumor that all the Indian restaurants on Charles Street shared a chef. You could see him running across the street from place to place during lunch and dinner. Now, I don't know how true that is, but it is noteworthy that the spice blends and food tasted pretty similar from place to place. Nepal house definitely has its own chef. Their spice blends don't taste like anything else in town, and this is something I find refreshing. Noteworthy: my father (a chef) shared some delivery with me, and also thought that their spice blends were unique and remarkable. A couple of minor recommendations: the delivery time can vary wildly, anywhere from a half hour to two hours. The mint chutney has a little too much sugar in it. And the service can be a little too much...the waiters can be overly attentive when it's slow. Anyway, I imagine that Baltimore is a tough market to enter into for an Indian restaurant, and I think Nepal house is doing a fantastic job of distinguishing itself and winning over the locals. read more

Fraud alert! Notice how there are no restrictions on the deal besides ordering from Eat24, and it explicitly says no further restrictions can be place on the redemption of the voucher. We bought this and attempted to order delivery directly from their Yelp listing. When it didn't work, we even offered to order take out and walk to pick up our food. The restaurant refused and said we had to redeem it at a dine-in visit. Seriously?! When your client compromises and offered to do take-out, meet them halfway! Horrible customer service. read more
