Of the Nepali food in Chicago, this place is def my favorite. Relaxed atmosphere, a mix of locally born folks and immigrants all eating with smiles, and the smells and sounds of a kitchen on the sub continent - felt just like sitting in a comfy restaurant in Kathmandu! Love the south loop location but was pleasantly surprised the food quality and service matched up for this location as well. We ordered veg momos, dal makhani, malai kofta and paneer burjee and the taste of the food was impeccable. Since we were a party of 7 the servers were very attentive. My son found the food a little spicy and they got him some yogurt and did not even charge for it. Give them high points for attention to detail. After the meal we were not rushed out and while we were talking our server was sweet enough to get us complimentary kheer and masala tea. I enjoyed my lunch at Nepal House. It is one of the more upscale places on Devon. However, I won't come back here solo. I was disappointed that I could not order a single serving thali or sampler platter - you can only get them for 2 people. I ended up getting a spicy spinach dish which was OK but not really worth the price. I got some cheese naan or paratha and that was excellent. I also liked the chai. Have been here 3 times now, and quality, and taste of the buffet has been better each time. The seasoning, sauce, salt, and taste is just perfect. I love the Nepali style mutton, chole (Chickpeas) and vegetable dishes- cooked well, spiced just right keeping natural flavor as intact as you can when masalas are involved. Should add bhelpuri from the last trip too. Overall, wouldnt mind recommending this to friends, and going for leisurely weekend buffets as often as possible. After having many wonderful experiences with Indian food, I wanted to branch out and try Nepalese cuisine. So glad we did! Had the lentils, which was a great curry type dish great for dipping the naan in. And also a lovely cauliflower dish. Everything was delicious but I especially liked the spicy naan (a more unique item in my experience) and the garlic naan. My friends and I was suppose to go to another Indian restaurant for buffet but we were late. So we decided to pick any restaurant and went with this place. My friend was disappointed knowing the fact that nepalians are Asian people not people from India. Beside that point we still decided to eat there. The restaurant is not to big and not to small and there weren't that many people when we went. My friend notice something in his water so the waiter pour him another glass. My friends and I order the garlic naan which was so good. I ordered the lamb seekh kebab which was okay since I had better lamb kebab else where. This is my favorite place to go to on Devon street, the food is seasoned perfectly and they use authentic spices. I've had my share of Indian food in Chicago, and I always prefer to order my food from here. They can be a little bit on the pricy side, but we've been using our Yelp discounts. What a lovely restaurant! We visited for a late lunch and were thrilled with all our dishes! We were seated immediately and our waitress, who was so sweet and helpful, brought us a platter of homemade crackers with 2 sauces and some pickled veggies. Delicious! We ordered chicken momo, chicken pakora, chicken tikka masala and chickpea masala ... all of which were outstanding. Also garlic naan ... there are no words! Stellar! After our meal, the owner stopped by to see how we liked the food and he brought us a complimentary rice pudding and a chai. We had a terrific dinner at Nepal House. We started with the Vegetables Momo, which were fresh and delicious. Then we shared the Nepal House Vegetarian Special Dinner (which is recommended for two). Each of the three dishes was amazing, but the cauliflower one really stood out. While the seasoning is very similar to Indian food, Nepalese food isn't nearly as rich, so we didn't feel overly full the way we often do after eating Indian food. Good service. Having lived in Nepal for a bit we really enjoyed the reminder of the flavors we remembered. I was a bit disappointed when I thought I was ordering the Nepali set (a traditional way of organizing food and certain pickled items that accompany it) but what we received were three bowl dishes plus rice. If you are going to have a picture of it in your menu you should probably deliver the item to the table. One final comment--Fox News? Really? This is Chicago.
