My mom has prearranged services set up before she passed away for cremation and to have the ashes sprinkled at sea. This made things very easy for me. Our hospice organization contacted Neptune as soon as my mom passed away. The Neptune team in San Pedro, CA handled everything and were very courteous and compassionate. My only ding is that it took about 5 weeks to get the death certificates, but my understanding is that this was primarily due to slow as ion by the state of CA. Never having had to experience such services, Neptune's staff has made this difficult situation far easier. From the initial phone calls with questions, to the 2 women who picked up my loved one's body, both were pleasant, professional, and calm, explaining the steps in which they were going to proceed, and sensitive to the situation. The vehicle transporting my loved one's body was unexpectedly unmarked and appreciatively inconspicuous. Feeling emotional especially during that 1st call, Ana was appreciatively patient and helpful in assisting me to understand the steps required to obtain a death certificate and what to expect. Taylor was professional, helpful and diligent in updating me on timing of events as well as scheduling pick up of my loved one's cremains. I used Neptune society Sherman oaks in the past for a family member it was a good experience. This time not the same! Was unhappy with the new location felt like at a used car lot. Employees weren't as friendly as before. Every phone call felt rushed like he needed to go make other calls. I did think maybe they were overworked and gave them grace. But the urn came and when I got there I realized the spelling was incorrect. He never said sorry for not doing his job ! He said it's okay we can redo. It's never okay. Made me sad I had to now wait another week and go back to pick up. He again never apologized he just put on an old looking placemat and said nothing. I walked out of there unhappy. My husband's sister suffered a massive stroke in May of this year (2024). We had already done business with Bryan in the Santa Barbara office, so we contacted him on behalf of my sister-in-law, even though she lived in Torrance. Bryan was super helpful, and patient with my several follow-up questions. When my sister-in-law ultimately passed away in October the San Pedro office took over efficiently, respectfully and with great care. They kept us informed at all steps of the process. They took care of notifying Social Security and Medicare on our behalf, and provided us with the exact number of death certificates that we requested. To do this, I needed a certificate from the Public Health that my husband did not die from a communicable disease. I was informed that the mortuary secures that document. Le Shawn of Neptune, said they did not do that. So I called the Public Health and was told they are surprised by the mortuary's response as they usually deal with mortuaries. And this is one of several complaints but it will be too long to discuss all. Incompetent. Rude. And expensive. Unfortunately, I have had a terrible experience with this office. My mother purchased a cremation plan with Neptune prior to her passing. After she passed, I heard absolutely nothing from Neptune for 10 days despite calling them repeatedly. I finally received some documents to e-sign 10 days later before my contact went AWOL again. I called and called and was told "someone" would call me back, but it never happened. Now I go into their office, nearly 50 days after my mother passed and I receive a 3-page death certificate that was incorrectly filled out because no one contacted me to get my mother's information. I never received any form to fill out or anything, despite trying desperately to get hold of someone in the office in the days following my mother's passing. Additionally, when I showed up today to an appointment made a week ago, the director with whom I was supposed to meet was not there and no one in the office even knew I had the appointment! It's hard enough to lose a parent, but the total disorganization, lack of communication, and just plain failure to actually assist me with my mother's cremation has been a nightmare. Their sales rep was more concerned about out closing a deal than letting me let things settle in my head because I made a decision on what package I wanted. I called for info for myself since I have been diagnosed with cancer, i knew it was time to make arrangements. John Yang gave me all the information I needed. I asked him to call me back later since I received a call from my dr while on the line with John. He called back later and I was busy. He called back after 6 pm and I was having dinner. He tried on the weekend, and called Monday and Tuesday. In the meantime I'm busy with Dr appointments, Insurance calls and trying to go over what he sent me in order to make a decision. I was planning on making a decision and sent him an email that I will call him back with a decision and to please stop calling. I was going to call him back until he called again and I answered. He became aggressive and rude to me on the phone. He would not even let me talk. He raised his voice at me and was basically trying to bully me. I asked several times if he would let me finish my sentence. He commented that I can just go to someone else then if I didn't wanna use them. And I said I'm trying to talk to you about this about my decision. But then I said never mind. I will go somewhere else because by then I had had it with his behavior. And his comment back was OK Miss White you have a blissful life and his tone was aggressive and rude and angry. He hung up on me. I called Neptune back immediately and spoke with the receptionist and she said let me ask my manager what to do. She came back and said my manager said they will call me back. Week later I receive a phone call from his managers, receptionist asking if there's anything she can do. I explained to her what happened and said I would really like to speak to his boss. She apologized and said yes she's out of town but she wanted me to call and see if there's anything she could do but she is planning on calling you. It is another week laterand still no call from anyone except I received an email of an apology from John Yang saying he became defensive with me because some customers become rude with him. (If he would have let me talk, he would have known how patient and kind I really am). I'm dealing with a serious health issue and want to make sure I make arrangements so my family doesn't have to worry. It's my first time ever calling anyone to find out how to do this. Needless to say, I have not hear back from John's manager which makes this even more frustrating. I am glad John apologized. And I have to forgive. Even thought Neptune has everything that I need and the fee is perfect, I will not be using Neptune. Very disappointed. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could. In April, my estranged father passed away in Long Beach, at his home. Someone made the decision to use Neptune, transferring him there before I was even alerted to his death. I dealt with a woman named Ana, who should not be working in customer service, much less in the death industry. To start, I was charged 2600 for essentially cremation and throwing him in a plastic box. I even had to come pick him up! The average price of a cremation in Long Beach, CA area is around $1200 for direct cremation - meaning no ceremony, anything. Yet somehow I was forced into paying DOUBLE and dealing with a cold, rude employee. Granted, I may not have been in the best mood having to pay an exorbitant amount of money to cremate a truly terrible human being, but you'd think someone working in the death industry might not choose to be rude right off the bat to someone in this situation. Not a single "sorry for your loss" or anything, just her anger when I said "wait HOW much is it?!?!?!" when she told me that it was such a high price. I was actually at work when she first called, at about 7:30pm on a Friday night as I was on east coast time, as I work music events, and had a hard time hearing her. She was rude right off the bat and snarky. I told her I needed to handle this at another time and again, more rudeness. Honestly, as he's not living, and it's not like they're going to do his processing at 5pm on a Friday, I'm not sure why she was so short and rude and insistent I begin the process immediately. Ana was incredibly rude and short the entire time, and insisted I immediately pay their insane prices. Well, lady, not all of us have the price of a small used car sitting there waiting for something like this. She also told me I would be receiving the death certificates on a certain date, and they were late, of course, which meant I could not get access to any of his information, accounts, or begin to get the court and probate processes started. I simply had to wait for them. When I finally arrived at their San Pedro location - which of course, was confusing due to there being another office or something nearby. I was greeted, again, shortly and rudely, and had paperwork shoved my way to sign and take this small plastic box containing the remains of my last parent. Again, no words of compassion, nothing. I feel like I got ripped off for double the average direct cremation prices in the area, and the entire process was held with zero compassion towards my feelings, and I hadn't spoken to the deceased in 20 years. I cannot imagine how they would speak to someone who is grieving. My father recently passed. When I called Neptune Ana was the person I spoke to. She was so nice and respectful. She told me everything to expect. When they came to the house to take my father, the two young men were so kind and considerate. My dad was a WWII veteran and they wrapped him in the flag before taking him. They handled my dad so gently and were so aware of the family and what we were going through. Ana has been so great in keeping the family aware of everything and what to expect. My uncle died in Colombia while on vacation and they said that there was nothing they could do. His brother had to fly to Colombia to get his remains and he was already cremated when he got there. My husband and I purchased our cremations in advance, with Neptune Society, while we were still quite young. We both knew that we would want our ashes released at sea. My husband died recently at 92 years of age, after a long illness. A few months before he passed, I contacted Neptune Society to see if they still had us on record. The gentleman I spoke to was so pleasant, pulled our records right up, and explained, in detail, what would commence on the event of of his death. When the time came, Hospice called Neptune Society right away and they, in turn, took care of everything. Maureen Lipari from the society called promptly and kindly walked me through all the steps that followed: death certificates, my husband's service in the Navy- all the required paperwork to sign. The basics had already been paid for but we opted for attendance on the boat so we were charged, of course, according to the number of people and the number of stewards they would need on board. Maureen was wonderful to work with and kept in contact with me through everything. She arranged for AMVETS to come on board, for the military ceremony, the rifle salute and playing Taps on the trumpet, the flag folding, and the presentation of the folded flag to me. The Captain of The Orca Too, Roman Smugden, could not have been more gracious. He and his stewards welcomed us and gave assistance to two of our group who arrived in a wheelchair and a walker. A champagne toast, and a bouquet of flowers were provided by the Orca Too. The urn was dispersed over the side by steward Fred Mejia. We brought red roses to add to the ceremony which we all threw over the side. My family brought hors d' oeuvres. Maureen arranged for a nondenominational pastor for the service. Pastor Sam Musil had never met my husband. I sent the pastor some information on John and some pictures and he delivered the most beautiful summation of the good man I had married. The mood of our group was sad but also joyful. Our family and friends raved about everything. It was all beautiful and I heartily recommend Neptune Society (Newport Beach). We all came away with such warm feelings about everything that was done for us. I will never forget this beautiful day. This place deserve zero stars. They had all the proper information that they need it for my mom's death certificate. To my surprise when I received it, there was absolutely no information on my mother other than her first and last name. No middle name no birthday no Social Security nothing it was almost is that my mother, with some homeless person that they found on the street Jane doe. I purchased everything for my mother two weeks prior to her passing giving them all the information they need it on her. As soon as I receive the email to give them all the information on my mother. I did so. So I am not understanding why the person who submitted this submitted it blank. Not only that I go in on two separate occasions, giving her my mom's drivers license and my drivers license. They also give me the wrong earn. They knew that I was going to be burying. My mom's remains with my brother. I received an urn that goes in the ocean. I'm still waiting for them to replace the urn for my mother. I chose Neptune Society because I thought they were a well-known organization. They are the most expensive and they give you the absolute worst customer service. No wonder they have 2 1/2 stars I only wish that I would've looked on Yelp before purchasing cremation for my mother. read more

Hospice recommended Neptune Society for making arrangements in advance to manage my mother's remains upon her death. My discussions with Troy and the contracting process were smooth and compassionate. As promised, when the time arrived, the attendants came promptly and were courteous and kind. From then on the experience changed. Ana was rude on her call to confirm information with me, and didn't tell me that the standard box for my mother's remains was on its way to me in advance. I received an unexpected very heavy fedex package that was extremely difficult to open. It has a memorial candle holder with a candle that doesn't fit it, and the box for the ashes is so tight in the case that by the time I got it out I was so upset I nearly threw it across the room. When I was called that the ashes were ready there was no expression of sympathy, I went to pick them up and the receptionist didn't know why I was there, and Ana never showed me the paperwork to verify that this was in fact my mother in the box-- 'the papers are inside'. Once I got home I did find the papers and then had to open the box myself to verify that the tag on the bag of ashes matched the paperwork. This was a very reasonably priced service but don't expect anything kind or helpful after the body is removed. read more

The problem is, at that time she was still alive. So...somebody please explain how it is possible to scatter the ashes of a living person? What, exactly did they do, and where are her ashes? I have visions of them in the trash or being flushed. I was not present so can never know for sure. After she paid over $2000.00 this is the respect she got. We are hurting right now and my mother cannot rest in peace because of this nonsense. Proofreading and paying attention is essential. Going to consumer affairs with this. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. What you have done is very shady. If I could give -5 stars, I would. I think they could improve their communication response times.
