I called Nero to bid on my new ductless mini-split heat pump after having called on them a couple of times in past years to service my gas heating/hot water system. It was an easy, straightforward experience overall from Chris in sales, who explained my options and arranged a relatively quick turn-around for the install. Brandon and Aaron, the installation team, were top-notch in all respects. Our older home gave them good opportunities for demonstrating their skill, creativity, adaptability, and determination, all of which they showed in good measure. I can say that the sales people and technicians I dealt with have all been very respectful and considerate of the homeowner. Been a customer for years. This season I have had issues with inexperienced technician not able to properly troubleshoot problems and performing unnecessary repairs. I've had to figure out the problem and address it myself. I even paid for the unnecessary repairs, then I got charged for a diagnostic service for them to confirm what I suspected. Called and spoke to them about this multiple times and sent an email disputing this charge. Just got another invoice for this, now with interest. Very disappointed, will be looking for a new HVAC service provider moving forward. read more

Zach just came out to look at the central air unit in my apartment. He was extremely efficient at finding the issue and communicating what the issue is. I had an in home estimate on a new furnace in mid-May. The man who came out went into the basement with me, and I showed him the furnace. He told me that he was going to be there for a while and for me to go upstairs. I thought it was a little unusual but did so. Almost a week after he left, I smelled a lot of home heating oil, went downstairs and saw a lot of leaking. I had to call another heating person, who repaired a "loose oil filter gasket." It was completely fine and not leaking when we went downstairs in mid-May for the estimate. Wow. read more

Just got another dose of "ripped off". Service from Nero reminded me of why I am a DIY person. I had Nero come out to service my split. Not only got charged for 2 technicians to come out to tighten a fitting and recharge the system, but I was misquoted the price of the freon (by a lot) and was told that they "forgot" that the first pound of freon was at a higher rate. I was expecting a bill of around $250-300 but was charged almost $600. They did offer me $25 for the mis-quote. read more

Buying a new AC/Heating system is quite an investment and the unknown is how you are going to be treated after the system is installed. Our experience with Nero has been fantastic. A year after installation, we had an issue with a duct that was not part of the installation and when we spoke with Steve Nero about it, he had a crew here the next day, and they did a great job in a very difficult space to operate in. Integrity from the vendor is one of the things you hope for when making a big investment and Nero can be counted on to have plenty of it. read more

they came yesterday at 5:00pm to service our heat pump, our appt. was between 1:00-3:00 :( and when they got there they told my wife that everything was fine and to turn it off for an hour and then turn it back on. We have been without heat for a day now and it was -2 degrees yesterday, the guy that came wasn't helpful at all, and didn't even know where the air filter on the unit was located, he said that we didn't install the filter in the unit, and then says "oh, wait here it is". he was clueless and left us stranded in the cold. Nero has been great for our home heating/hot water conversion from oil to natural gas. We utilized a specialized loan and the office staff was experienced and professional in terms of handling all of the paperwork. Nero was responsive when we first contacted them and came out to the house for a quote extremely fast. Tony our sales consultant, was extremely professional and a real joy to work with. His response time to questions was spectacular, and his knowledge about the process was outstanding. The technicians that came out, Pedro & Matt, were very professional, neat, and clean. We were impressed by their work, and we were happy to have them work in our home. Overall, our experience with Nero was excellent, and they will be our first call for future upgrades to our home. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company than Nero. Months of phone calls never to be returned as there has been a leak in my condo since Nero installed a new AC unit in the condo above ours. No regard for the damage and no fix in sight. Exposed duct work in our open ceiling and mold growth...no one has shown any evidence of even a remote care for our now greater than 10 week issue. Sad... read more

I am absolutely appalled by the way I was treated yesterday by Ray from Nero. Per the other reviews, the owner of this company seems like a stand-up dude; it's too bad some of his employees have not been provided with proper customer service training. I called them on Saturday because my central a/c stopped working over the weekend. He told me it was going to be $225(after-hours service fee) for someone to just show up. I thought this was a little steep considering I had no idea what was wrong with my unit and what the actuals costs were going to be so I said that I would wait until Monday and make an appointment during normal business hours. I called Monday morning at 8am, and the very unfriendly receptionist said that someone would be out between 3-5pm. I asked if it would be okay if someone called me 30 minutes before because I work in Shelton. She said in a very condescending tone "Is that really what you need?" I said yes and explained about work. 4:30 rolled around and I hadn't received a call yet so I called the office to check-in. It was closed so I was transferred to an operator who then patched me through to Ray. Ray made me feel like I was bothering him. I explained that the receptionist told me someone was supposed to call me before they came by 5 and I wanted to make sure I was home in time. He told me he had no idea what the office manager told me and if they said someone would come, then someone would come. I said okay and would keep waiting. I got home at 5:30, it was 92 degrees in my 2nd story condo so I called again, the operator told me that someone should have called me if they were running late or not coming at all - she then patched me through to Ray again. This time he was even ruder. I told him I wanted to check in again, and he told me he has no information about anything and it "looks like no one is coming". I asked him if he was the tech on call, then is he able to come? He then said "I could come for the after-hours fee". I told him it wasn't acceptable since they told me someone was coming and then no one showed. I asked if he would be able to come and then possibly we could get the office to waive the after-hours fee, he laughed at me and said it doesn't work like that. I was beyond upset at this point, so I told him thank you for your time and hung up. He also told me during the conversation that someone would call me the next day, and it is 12:45pm and no one has yet reached out to me. I work for an International customer, so I'm very familiar on what great customer service looks like and how I was treated by Ray was far from this. I have been a Nero customer for 2 years, I should have learned the first time when the very first tie the tech came out, he made an error that caused my entire bathroom ceiling to be flooded from the a/c unit above it. The tech admitted it to me and the company still refused to take any responsibility and refused to pay for any of it. This company looks for every shortcut to make a couple of extra bucks. I found a different company and he's been here for 2 hours trying to correct the terrible service jobs that Nero has performed in the past. He can't believe all of the corners that they cut. I would HIGHLY suggest calling a different company for your HVAC needs - this one should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. After having conversations with other residents of North Haven, it sounds like this company has gone completely downhill since the sons took over. Wish I asked around earlier but just a lesson learned. read more

Possibly the finest experience I have ever had in 37 years of home ownership. Mike Nero is polite, timely, knows his business cold and obviously enjoys his work. The people who work for him are top notch. Of the 8 contractors I solicited to install central air-conditioning Mike was hands down the best. Our house, built in 1934 does not lend itself to an easy A/C install. Mike and his crew developed a single air handler solution quickly. He presented the contract in person and explained it in detail. I recommend Nero without reservation. read more

A technician from Nero got our heat working over New Years Eve holiday weekend - when the highs were in the teens. A very pleasant guy who had to do a lot of trouble shooting. It wasn't cheap (as I would expect for service on a Friday night) but it was fair. I recommend them without reservation! read more
