    The Schawafel Schrock
    Steve A.

Finally got to check out this place in the Loop. It seemed like it was always closed, but they've been open more often recently. Nesh has a lot of counter service Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food such as falafel and shawarma. Make an order and get it fast. The prices aren't that cheap, but not that bad for around here for the most part. Came at lunch to get some falafel. It's a pretty limited time you can come here. This place is only open weekdays. One of those places that's order at the counter. Seems pretty casual, but the food is better than that. It's about $11 for a typical wrap or something. The signature item is the Shawafel Shrock, which is a big wrap. Has a lot in it. There's falafel, and they typically put steak. If wanting to get it vegetarian, they put in more falafel. There's typical toppings like Jerusalem salad, onions, and pickles. Also whatever else to put on it. They also have loaded fries with Mediterranean types of stuff. Good place to come in at lunch for a casual bite. It's pretty easy to make an order, and it's usually fast getting it. There's meaty items like steak, and vegetarians can get falafel and whatever other toppings.

Nesh Golden Rice, Kofta, Steak, Chicken, 3-Piece Falafel

Nesh is under new ownership--and it shows. I've been coming here for a long time, and while the food was always decent, things have really stepped up lately. The flavors are better, everything feels fresher, and the place just runs more smoothly overall. I've been trying to eat a little healthier, and their steak shawarma salad has become a regular order for me. The meat is tender and seasoned just right, and the portion size is honestly huge for what you pay. It's one of those meals that feels satisfying without being heavy. The baba ghanoush is another favorite--smoky, creamy, and really well-balanced. What I've appreciated most is how open the new team is to feedback. They actually ask for it, and the best part is, they do something with it. I've noticed small changes over time that directly reflect conversations I've had with them, which makes it feel like they're really paying attention. It's still a fast-casual spot, but it feels more intentional now. The staff are helpful, the ambiance is chill, and it's just a solid place to grab a flavorful, filling meal. They also offer catering and run occasional promos through apps like ChowNow and Uber Eats if you're ordering in. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been in a while.

The food is fantastic. It's under new ownership and every time I go, I try a new dish. Any choice is a great choice!!

Selection of salad, meat and chicken shawarma and grilled vegetables

I have been going to this place for years before pandemics. I always loved the food and I think they have one of the best falafel in the Chicago area. Last week we had a big event and we catered food from them for more than 60 people. We all loved the food. The quality of the meat was fantastic. Also, the vegetarian section was fantastic. Baba Ganoush was a very popular dish.

Decided to stop by here for Friday lunch. Was there pretty early during the lunch hour therefore was able to order right away. Ordered a chicken shawarma in a pita pocket & an order of regular fries. The chicken shawarma with chicken tomato and cucumbers (aka Jerusalem salad) and hummus with sauces was very tasty and the pita was soft and fluffy. It was fun to see the fillings falling out so I was able to eat the fillings separately. Fries were made to order and they were good as well. Very generous portion and I wasn't able to eat them all! Overall I did enjoy lunch and glad to find a new lunch spot in downtown Chicago.

At any given time Mediterranean would be my one of my top most options for food. I love the flavor it. I moved to downtown for work recently and it is my husband who actually introduced this place to me. It is the closest (Working on Adams). Their menu isn't as that big but it's not a disappointment either, got handful options there. Ordering your food isn't tricky either, you walk in and if you are lucky(Weekday lunch hours are quiet busy) you just pick what you want you pay and outta there. I went with a chicken kebob plate(With Salad). I tried with rice and I prefer salad one. For a downtown restaurant the price you pay vs the amount and quality of food I would give a 5 star. It isn't that expensive, you would get decent amount of food for $10. You can pick as many side ons you want and you won't be charged extra(That works for me ) It's was spot if you are working nearby, parking is difficult though(Better Not to think about that option). I like their Pita too, m not saying it's fabulous but it's decent compared to lot other Mediterranean places. Their Mint lemonade is refreshing, worth trying. If I am in a rush and needed to grab something good and quick for my lunch..this is my place.

The 1st that plans ahead and gets to places early. And the 2nd that is there for a good time but always gets everywhere late. Those of us that wanted to come early and not worry decided that we wanted to go to a restaurant close by to wait for our tour time and that's how we found Ema. As soon as we walk inside we see how beautiful and modern the interior looks. They had a lot of seating available and we got a nice table by the window with a view We wanted to eat light before the tour so we shared a bunch of small plates. We ordered the mushroom escargot, lemon Caesar, crispy potatoes, a couple orders of hummus and some chicken kebabs. That mushroom escargot was one of my favorite things I ate during the entire Chicago trip. The mushrooms were creamy and rich. It tasted umami, bright from the lemon, slightly spicy from the Calabrian breadcrumbs, and paired perfectly with some warm pita bread on the side. The hummus was smooth and well seasoned. The lemon caesar was fresh and fairly standard. The crispy potatoes were perfectly textured and were soft and pillowy on the inside. As long as they sat on the table they never lost their crisp. The chicken kebabs were tenderly, juicy and garlicky. We were all putting together our perfect bite combinations with the pita bread. Everything we ordered I would actually order again. Though may want to try a different salad next time since the Caesar was pretty simple. Regardless, still no real complaints with the food Our server was charismatic and funny. He had a great attitude and entertained us throughout the meal. Everything came out promptly as well so we made it out and could take our time walking to the riverboats. Lucky for our friends the tour said they'd be docked for a few minutes after our scheduled start time to set everything up. As 3 minutes after our start time we see group 2 sprinting up from a couple blocks away Overall Ema was consistent, flavorful and reliable. Not a bad price point either for what you get. I'd definitely recommend and come back

Made last minute reservations for brunch next day after the infamous architecture tour. It was quiet as we've put in an early morning. All the more better to savor all intricate dishes from start to finish. Like the name, The Purple Pig, their specialty is pork dishes so majority of our orders were this. Daily special of the bone marrow bacon jam toast - glazed, slippery off the bone, savory and sweet. Always love a good bone marrow dish to get the sweetness off it. This was so good that there were bits of the marrow and jam left stuck to the bone, I took a piece of the toast and scooped the bone dry. Nothing left for anyone to attack this. Non pork dishes were the Mushroom 3 ways and Spanish octopus. Mushroom dish was savory with all the coated sauces elevating this. Spanish octopus was kicked lightly and easily can bite in to enjoy the tender and charred portions. But the award went to my main course - the braised pork shoulder with saffron, apricots and Swiss chard. Aside from the rippable pork meat when dining on it, the sauces fused together on this dish elevated it and had everyone coming back for more. I needed an official Chicago culinary experience and found it at The Purple Pig without a doubt.

Though unassuming on the outside, this place serves yummy Lebanese food at high ROI. Of the two shawarma plates I tried, I fancy the beef, but I tend to lean beef. The chicken was clean and flavorful. The hummus is creamy and delicious and the plates are served with a balsamic fresh salad on the side. The guys behind the counter are working hard and if you're picking food up to-go, you're likely in and out of line with hot fresh food in under 10 minutes. Food portions are colossal so I would recommend one appetizer and one entree if you are a couple. They give you a complimentary dish. We ordered arayes with meat, meat toshka, mixed grill with baba ghanouj, fillet of basa fried, and mint lemonade. They also offer you fresh Arabic coffee before you leave. This is about a 4.5-5. -arayes with meat 4 - this was not bad. It's like a tamer version of the meat toshka. -meat toshka 5 - I prefer this over the arayes because they add the Syrian cheese. It goes well with the pita bread. The meats were cooked medium well unless you want something. I think next time I'll ask for the shish kababs to be cooked medium rare or medium for a more juicy taste. The chicken tawook and kufta were both succulent. -fillet of basa fried 5 - the two pieces of basa fillet were astronomical. It also comes with two different kinds of rice. The fish was flaky, moist, and seasoned. Make sure you add the lemon and eat it with the sauce. -mint lemonade 5 - this was very refreshing after eating a heavy meal.
