Really great food for the Sale Lake scene, could be exceptional if a few things were tightened up. We came by last night to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, she had been craving Creole food for a while and we have tried all the usual spots. Upon entering, you notice the ambience, which was really nice. The lighting, furniture, and design was really aesthetically pleasing, and just made you think of smooth and low key but relaxing at the same time, as well as the live singer they had performing. We were immediately greeted (they prefer a reservation, which we had) and allowed to pick our seats. We ordered the gumbo bowl to start, along with the Cajun pasta, and wagyu burger. The presentation of all the food was very visually appealing. The gumbo was interesting, not really like any other gumbo I have had in the past (I lived in Texas and traveled extensively to Louisiana and Florida visiting friends). It was decent, but not something I would order again. I do wish it was served warmer though, the temperature when we got it felt barely heated up. However, the cornbread they serve with that and the Cajun pasta was fantastic. Just moist and cake like, which I love. The Cajun pasta was the star of the show, first of all it was packed with protein, shrimp, chicken, sausage, which all paired fantastic with the creamy, cheesy sauce full of seasoning and spice. Last but not least, the pasta was cooked to perfection. The wagyu burger was great as well, the purple slaw, candied bacon, cheese, jalapenos, and spicy bbq sauce paired perfectly with a perfectly medium patty. Oh the herb fingerlings were no slouch either. Really fantastic. Lastly, we ended the meal with an order of the beignets. I will say that was the big let down of the night, the beignets we got were super dry and crumbly inside, which is very different from other beignets I have had in the past. I was able to get it down, as the strawberry puree they served it with was lovely. Shout out to our server, I forgot his name, but he was lovely and handled the entire restaurant by himself. Easy to book a last minute reservation . Cute and vibey esthetic. The waiter was running things solo and you would've never known. He did a phenomenal job at keeping 9 of us satisfied. I ordered the smoked beets as my starter. It was smokey and had a sweet aspect to it from some honey. The whipped goat cheese paired with the beets was heavenly. The soiled beets alone, weren't my favorite. But I could bathe in that whipped goat cheese. For my main dish, it was really light considering there were two deep fried items. The deep fried macaroni was perfectly crusted on the outside and creamy on the inside. The catfish was melt in the mouth delicious. The tartar sauce was better than any I've had in my life. Must try! We wanted to get out of downtown for a drink and an app. and found this little sweet spot! Louisiana/New Orleans inspired food, great cocktails/wine beer list, and a swanky yet classy vibe. They had a live band, which was awesome and not too loud. We sat at the bar, listened to music, and could still have a full on conversation. Okay, so, I am pretty hesitant because I am a celiac and it just sucks eating at places not knowing if you're going to get sick or not. We had a reservation for our date night. It was one awesome guy running the whole front of the house. He suggested drinks, apps, and our mains. He walked me through the menu and checked with the kitchen on things he wasn't 100% sure about. Others in my party ordered the burger and mentioned it might of been the best burger they've ever had (and it looked it). They only had 32 reviews , but the reviews were great - we took a chance and we were so happy we did. I started off with the blackberry tequila cocktail - so good!! Not too sweet. This is my first review in a while, just wanted to drop 5 stars on this place because it's such a great New Orleans style restaurant and I'm planning to visit again on my next trip to Salt Lake. It's been a minute since I've been to the Big Easy, but I agree with others that Neutral Grounds is as good or better than many restaurants in Nawlins The house salad is both unique and delicious. All arugula with lots of roasted beet nuggets and house vinaigrette. I had the red beans and rice and it was fantastic - beans were tender, not mushy and the spice level was just perfect for me. The cornbread on the side was a little on the sweet side but works as a foil to the spice. The server was very accommodating- red beans and rice is currently on the starter menu but for an extra $3 they made entree sized. I was a good boy and just had 1 beer with dinner but I have to say the cocktail list was very tempting, with a strong New Orleans influence. If you're craving New Orleans style food or just a great dinner out somewhere new, give Neutral Grounds a try. read more

The gumbo now is served on soup cup and it had lots of imitated crab chunks and no prawns like it used to be- there were a few of tiny half inch sized shrimps and that was it for seafood, sure thing it's called "seafood" gumbo.. For the fried green tomatoes, there were only three thinly sliced pieces. Can't believe they charge $15 for that tiny portion of tomatoes. The steak didn't taste like seasoned at all and no sauce given with it. Menu selection got much smaller too. It seems they are more focusing on drinks and entertainment. Wow, after showing up the first time and being told that most of the entrees were sold out. The GM reached out to apologize and ask us to come back. We returned about 10 days later on a weekday and the restaurant was not quite so busy. We are so glad we did. I still didn't get a chance at the gumbo, but the red beans and rice were way above any I've had before, including during my time living in Lafayette, LA. My wife had the Wagyu. So miss "rarely eats more than 3 oz of steak", and that only when we are at the best steakhouses downtown devoured the full 8+ ounce steak. She said that it was better than the downtown steakhouses. We were fortunate that the evening was slow enough that the GM spent some time talking after the meal. We were recommended this restaurant from a friend and it did not disappoint. The service from our waiter, Steven, was amazing. He gave us drink recommendations that were exactly what we were in the mood for and also recommended his favorite dishes, which we ordered and loved. The food also came out super quickly so we were not left waiting around. The restaurant's design is very cozy and comfortable. We got an order of the roasted cauliflower flatbread (a lil too many tomatoes but good), the chicken arrabiata (yummy!), the cajun pasta (highly recommend - it was so freaking delicious), and the beignets (too sweet but still good).
