First off, thank you for all that you do to help animals and our community! I love the work this organization is doing and think they truly have the animals' health and best interest in mind for not letting people just walk through the kennels like certain other larger organizations do. Additionally, they do a lot of events to promote animal health and welfare throughout the community or partner with other organizations to do so. Most recently, I attended a microchip clinic hosted on-site here that the Girl Scout troop sponsored. It was a great event and every one was so helpful, nice, and efficient on microchipping my fur baby. Thank you! read more

Newest newsletters from this place in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is about a doggy. I will not give his name! No one knows how long he had been "running on the streets!" Dark, he was alone, very emaciated. A volunteer at this Nevada SPCA found the dog. Veterinary team did tests. The doggy had a condition. When said doggy was adopted, the people that adopted him mastered how to administer medicines for the condition! Glad said doggy is now adopted into his forever family! Thank you to this SPCA for all you do to help animals in your care! Forty plus years as No Kill Shelter! There is an area where potential adopters, they go to this area to get to know the animal better! There is an exercise area where Volunteers can help the animals get daily exercise. When an animal is brought to this SPCA, if not already microchipped, the veterinary team will microchip the animals! read more

We just adopted a cat and specifically asked if certain tests were done as we have another cat that we didn't want to expose to anything. The purple haired girl doing the paperwork stated and assured us that all tests were done and are done to all cats that come through there. I asked if there was proof to which she stated, if the cat ended up being positive that is when it would be listed in the files, otherwise, if the cat is negative nothing is documented but I assure you the tests were done. We ended up believing her. We called the next day while at our own Vet getting an initial check up and asked to confirm once again that the tests were done, this time, they said no, the tests were not done. Incompetence at its best, or just out right deception, say whatever you need to say, i.e. lie, just get the animals adopted. read more

Recently conducted some business with Nevada SPCA regarding an urgent/sensitive matter. And I muct say every single employee that I encountered during my brief visit with my two pups were fantastic. They were nice, they were polite, very professional, and it seemed as if they genuinely cared. I mean to work at this sort of establishment. You have to be some sort of animal lover and all of the lovely ladies that I encountered were pretty great at their jobs. The entire process was quick and rather easy. We recently adopted a wonderful boy kitten from the Nevada SPCA. They were wonderful during every single step. We got him as an FTA (foster-to-adopt) and they were there for us when we had to relinquish him, and they were there for us when we realized we couldn't live without him. There was no judgement, no misgivings at all. We were treated with the utmost respect and understanding. These people are seriously angels. Our kitten had tummy problems and their vet took excellent care of him and gave us what we needed to take excellent care of him at home. My kids and I volunteer at the SPCA and have for over 3 years now. The animals are treated as if this was their permanent home. They are given interactive treat dispensing toys daily and Walks. The animals with medical issues are given special diets, medication and are given special attention for any behavioral issues (extra attention, more out of kennel time). The kennels are spotless! The volunteers are also treated as part of the family and we always feel welcome. This encourages numerous amounts of volunteers so the animals get constant attention and volunteers help facilitate to help clean and sanitize to ensure cleanliness. I am so proud to be able to volunteer here which comes with a price because you fall-in love daily with the animal cliental. It brings me to tears due to my appreciation that the animals are taken care of so individually. They are all different and they all matter. Stopped by to drop off some old newspaper as their website had it on their "needs" list. My dad is old-school so he really enjoys having his paper delivered daily and which means we have a ton of old newspapers piled up. The parking lot was pretty full and when I entered the building it had a great vibe going on. Everyone was bustling about and were very interactive with the customers and each other. A girl came out from the backdoor and asked if I needed some assistance. I told her I was there to drop off some old newspaper and she looked confused. I let her know that it was on their website and she said ok, I'm sure we'll find some use for them. I really wanted to walk through and see the animals, but I knew that I would breakdown and wind up taking one home. I already have 2 dogs and 3 fish, I don't need any additional pets at the moment. The SPCA is great most of the time. This time they failed. This is "baker" and he's between 5-7 years old. He has the worst tummy problems. We were told he needed a specialized diet forever (hills biome) and after a couple of days we could introduce him to the house and our other cat. We said no problem and brought him home. 36 hours later we're at the vet because is diarrhea is so bad. The vets do a fecal matter PCR and it comes back positive for tritrichomonas. It's HIGHLY contagious and he needs meds ASAP. The only known cure is not available and no compounding pharmacy can make the meds so we were given these as a hope they can help him. We do another fecal matter test in 10 days to see what improvements have been made. We will figure this out. SPCA, you need to do better. read more

i was just here and this is my 3rd time coming here, i've never had an issue and i was thinking of getting a dog but in order to see if i like the dog, i need to see how he acts. the lady at the front desk asked if i was adopting today and when i said i was just coming to see the dog she just told me to go look and when i came out to see him and meet him in one of the rooms she said "if your not adopting today we are not gonna take them out because it will stress them out" when ive been here MANY times and never had any issue with meeting the dogs. this isn't fair to the dog as well because the dog seemed excited to see us and he wanted to play. i don't know if the lady was being lazy or just rude but if you want us to come back to adopt, your gonna need to let us see how the dog acts. do better. read more

This is going to be a long one! But please read if you are going to adopt here. I recently adopted a dog and very unfortunately had to return him 24 hours later. I don't fully blame the staff but there were definitely a few miscommunications and it felt like they were rushing to just get the dog out. Full transparency we adopted "Hobbs" he was posted on the 19th, I went the next morning to do a meet and greet and he seemed very playful, not aggressive, a little on the wild side but he's a bully breed and we have one at home already so it's nothing we aren't used too. They noted that he had a mounting problem but that was pretty much the only downfall. He was 7 years old they noted he had experience with kids and limited experience with other dogs. They were ready to check me out as soon as I finished the meet and greet but I decided to come back later with my current dog and my toddler to see how they all interact. That went good, they approved of the adoption and we took him home. First miscommunication was the price. First girl that helped me in the morning said he was $65 and online it said he was $65. When finalizing everything the girl checking me out told me it would be $150, she said the first girl was new and might not have known. I didn't argue it and just paid it, my mistake. I double checked online when I got home which I should've done when I was there because sure enough online it said $65 too. So please confirm price before you move on to the final steps. After everything was finalized and we were about to leave they decided to tell me to watch out for him bleeding that he had opened his incision site from being neutered a little bit from and made himself bleed. Well that night he started bleeding and it was not from the incision it was from the tip of his penis when he would get aroused. We left him in the kitchen/dining room over night and kept an eye on him. The next morning was like a murder scene, there was blood everywhere and again not from the incision. He also did not respond to any sort of verbal commands which they said he was good with, could've been the new environment but there was absolutely no response to anything. He was definitely not potty trained, again I was expecting some accidents due to the new environment but even outside he would not pee in the grass or rocks he would stop and pee in the middle of the sidewalk and street. The mounting was actually not a problem for us he didn't attempt to mount anything.He did get a little aggressive with my husband though and bit him. He also had a major chewing problem, we have a toddler who is very playful but that was hard with this dog because he would just steal her toys and chew them then get aggressive when you try to take them and we didn't want to risk him snapping at her. Ultimately we made the decision to take him back because him being 7 years old already is going to make it very hard to train him. We were not expecting him to be perfect but being 7 we at least expected him to be house trained. We were given information that he responded to verbal commands and was very treat forward but we could not get him to accept any treats. Now when I went to return him is when the issues began. I immediately told them that he had been bleeding a lot but NOT from the incision. I was checking my email after I got home and saw the information email for him and can still see vet records and they updated today saying we returned him saying he was bleeding from his incision due to mounting objects in the home which is not at all what we said. He didn't mount a single item in the home and I made sure to tell them it was not coming from the incision. This mounting issue seems to be the main thing they push when it wasn't even the problem for us. One of the girls had a bad attitude the entire time and didn't even want to hear us out as to what our experience was with him. I explained the issues with the chewing toys and thats when we learned his experience with children was with older children 8+, which would have been nice to know beforehand. We also learned he had never interacted with other dogs in his 7 years with the previous owner which also would've been nice to know not that it was just "limited" I mean yes we did introduce our dog at their facility first and it went good but had I known he had never been around another dog in 7 years I probably wouldn't have moved forward with him. Overall I feel like the staff rushed to get him out, left out important details of his history, charged me double, and put false information on his vet records. I'm sure he will be back up for adoption in the next day or two and I'm sure they will push the problem being his mounting again and leave out all the other information. So please if you consider adopting Hobbs or any other dog make sure to ask any and all questions you can think of and double and triple check on the important ones. read more

I have experience with these folks from both their old location and the new. My late guinea pig Gizmo was a rescue from their old location, and the staff was so warm and caring at that time. It was just as important to the people there to place a guinea pig in a good home as a dog or cat. Fast forward to a week or two ago. I have anxiety issues as well as a few other challenges, and after losing Gizmo to a tumor it was recommended to me that I move forward with getting a dog. Naturally, the SPCA was my first choice to find a new friend. I met a dog named Charles that I fell madly for, but he got adopted before I got a chance to get my ESA letter. Enter Sam, one of the best assets at the SPCA. Sam is hands-down one of the kindest, most patient people I've ever met. I was able to be honest with her about my situation and why I was looking for a dog, and she went so far above and beyond to try and match me with a dog that met my needs and that would also be a good fit for the dog. She introduced me to Zeke, and I was pretty sure he was the one. But...I had to get that ESA letter. Once I had the letter (just a day or two later), I went back to take another look at Zeke. Sam was out, but Blake stepped in to help me with the process. He was so kind and non-judgemental about my hesitance to move forward as I was experiencing quite a bit of anxiety over the decision-making. Blake made it super-easy for me to take Zeke out for a Field Trip, where we got to spend the weekend with him and decide if it was the right fit. The right fit is putting it mildly. Zeke is an epic dog, completely full of love with zero bad habits and nothing to untrain, plus he's smart as heck and is already enriching my life tremendously. I went back last week and did the formal adoption on Zeke, and I'm so happy Sam was there so I could thank her in person for all that she did to contribute to Zeke and I ending up together. Everyone at the SPCA has been absolutely marvelous, but both Sam and Blake will forever have my heart for their incredible patience and care with me. read more

This is the only real No Kill Shelter in Las Vegas. They help a lot of animals and deserve this communities support. Sadly, our city is not proactive in going after illegal breeders or providing affordable, spay and neuter for the public so our city has failed all rescues and shelters in Las Vegas. If you're Looking to Adopt, this is the place that saves the animals the most, and doesn't put them down unless it's absolutely necessary due to health reasons. read more

First of all, you need to fill out a ling form, then wait for the review, they may or maynot accept your pet. If you do get luck, they will schedule an appointment for you to surrounder your pet and there will be a fee. (Wtf, they charge you if you adopt a pet, they also charge you if you surrender, on too of that, they get donations... where are all that money go?) No wonder so many stray animals on the street. It is easier & cheaper to let them on the street than to surrender them. Oh and the staffs there really dont give a sh't, they are just there to chill, dont bother them! read more

We adopted our Rottie named Jaxi in 2014, when she was 1.5 years old. Because the Nevada SPCA saved her, she saved us. Jaxi passed 8/13 from complications due to a spinal injury and paralysis of her back half. It broke us. Today, we honored her by donating her favorite blankets and unopened dog food to the shelter that brought her into our lives. We thank you for what you do. read more

I'm used to going to the Animal Foundation. I thought that's just how these places operate. I was STUNNED to go into the SPCA. It's beautiful, the building and the people. There's no dog pound smell, no cold utilitarian feel. There's no soft carpeting because it is an animal rescue, but they still decorated it with people snd animals in mind. The joy they expressed when we asked for a kitty who's known to be hard to get along with was visible. You could tell they wanted this boy to be loved. When we said wrap him up we'll take him they ran to tell other staff. One request was to trim his nails, they had been snagging and I certainly didn't want to take him home and start a nail trim first thing. They did it with no hesitation. They packed him up into an actual kennel, not cardboard like places. The location is odd but it works SO well. A warehouse type building gives lots of room, I'm sure it's less than a store front! Parking is the only issue. They are spots, but not an over abundance. Please drop by, pet some babies, fall in love. They have all ages, dogs and cars. Older pets come potty trained, usually, and aren't crazy rascals. The kittens ARE gorgeous, though. Please, just go see! read more

I found a dog roaming outside my house and when I try and surrender the animal to them, they tell me to call animal control which will euthanize the dog after 72 hours. Nevada SPCA hung up on me the day after I adopted. I was passed to 3 people and given wrong information. No care for the animal.

We found the best addition to our family! Originally known as Lil Charlie, but we changed his name to Winston. Though it seems that many people had a negative experience, I went back in November 2019 and the process was as simple as could be. The shelter isn't the cleanest place, but it's extremely hard to receive funding for a non-profit organization. At the end of the day, it's about the animals being adopted so give these animals a chance at life. The process itself was quick and simple. We were taken to the back to see all the animals and..... We fell in LOVE. But, we wanted to check out other shelters and the volunteers offered to put Lil Charlie on hold for us for the next hour. When we came back, we had a meet and greet with our dog. Signed the paperwork and walked out the door with a bigger family! The shelter provided a bed, multiple toys, treats, and even a hoodie for our dog. Thank you so much!! For families with children, these volunteers are probably worried about sending an animal to an unfit home. Our dog was shaking and was extremely nervous when we first saw him. Turns out, he was returned by a family because the 1 year old pup couldn't "get along" with small children. What families don't think about is how much attention and training dogs need. Dogs are not toys and shouldn't be treated as such. Winston is so happy now! read more

Came here three times and each time was a great experience (if you don't count my kids crying after seeing a shepherd that looked like our late Grace). Yes, the back housing area smells like dog kennels but that's because there are dogs in kennels there. It is very clean, never walked in seeing them in poop or pee, there are checklists on all the kennels so the employees that work on the pets can sign off on them. The dogs even have a small door to a quiet space behind their kennel in case they're feeling a little overwhelmed. There is a separate room for the cats and one for small animals. Haven't seen any reptiles yet myself. There are also meet and greet rooms.. I see people in there all the time being allowed to take their time to interact with the dogs and see if they're the right fit for each other. That's all I've seen people with so idk if they let the other animals in there too. Some animals have had some work done to make them healthy again, but otherwise they all seemed healthy, well cared for, and happy. The people at the front are always polite and say hi to me and my kids when we walk in. I'm pumped about the way the guys in the back handle the dogs. They were giving out their treats and calling each one by name. The individual clipboards for each dog have a quick rundown, but if I spend a little longer at a cage, someone's itching to come over to give me the full story. They clearly spend time socializing them. One was getting adopted while I was there and the guys were excited to tell each other about it. I wish I got the one guy's name that talked to me about Joe and Kuzco today.. so helpful and honest about where they came from and what they'd need if they were to be adopted. I would recommend this place, 1. In the name of a non- profit asking people to "adopt before you shop" 2. I don't think that the people who need to be rating or diagnosis are necessarily the people who should be. Who is accessing these animals and for instance I seen a kitten that is grey but was listed as a grey tabby which is inaccurate because tabby has defined lines and a grey coat and no other color would be considered a Russian blue and I'm not a veterinarian but I do know cats and can distinguish between the two and other differences so with that said there must be more mistakes happening there than what I've seen in only a short amount of time. read more

My 100th review is for none other than the Nevada NSPCA! In May, I decided that I wanted to foster two kittens, but the strange part is that when I walked in and asked if they had any kittens available to foster, though they kindly said yes, they didn't even ask me who I was, even though I filled out an application two weeks prior. They gave me two cute sibling kittens, maybe about five weeks old at best. They didn't tell us where they found them, but I think they were most likely abandoned. Before we left, they gave us a giant thing of wet food and eye medicine since they were possibly born with an eye infection that is now long gone. Now two months later, I am deciding that I want to adopt them after they get fixed. They are just too cute to surrender to another home! read more
