    Chicken Lo Mein
    John D.

The Chinese food is decent enough for Asheville. The steamed rice is okay, I have found some places serve really overcooked long grain rice that is terrible. The rice here is acceptable. My go to dish is the Lo Mein. What I was brought up calling "Chow Mein". If you order Chow Mein in the South they give you a bunch of cabbage. I don't know why. I tried the Mongolian Beef. It was rather expensive at $14.50 and the meat was the typical cheap, over-tenderized beef you usually find in these places. It had a decent kick of spice. I'd probably go with the Mongolian Chicken in the future. The interior seems clean but could use a little updating. The service was quite friendly though. All in all a decent place for some cheap-ish Chinese food.

Acceptable kung pao - lots of filler vegetables. Really sub-par pork egg roll.

Mediocre to terrible. We were lured in by a $12.99 mail coupon for two dinner special combos. They say you get what you pay for, and New 1 China didn't even get us that far. The rundown: Pork egg roll: flavorless. The ground "pork" is bright pink and has a borderline foul flavor. Tasteless vegetables. Standard crappy carry-out corn-syrup "duck sauce," gloopy Chinese mustard, and salt water "soy sauce" packets were little help. Not worth the calories. Szechuan beef - Total misnomer. It was about 2 onions worth of sliced onion, a few carrot slices, a couple snow peas, and a few strips of gross-tasting, oddly-textured beef in a sickly sweet - no - SWEET sauce lacking any spice or flavor. It almost looked like onions in ketchup. So gross. This seemed to be the same fluorescent red sauce that comes on sweet and sour chicken in crappier establishments. Awful (check out the nasty photos). Nothing Szechuan about that mess! White rice - freshly steamed, just fine Kung pao chicken - one of the better renditions I've had in Asheville, but that's not saying much. Although it was oily, the sauce actually included doubanjiang (spicy bean sauce) rather than the bland brown sauce doled out by so many other local places. Carrots and celery were fresh. Water chestnuts likely canned but OK. Peanuts kept their toasty crunch. The chicken itself was mostly white meat but had an odd springy texture. It could have been trimmed better. Bottled water - .$50 - no tap water available. Dining room: filthy. There are black lines of dirt and oil around the base of the table legs. It hasn't been mopped in months, I'd guess. More crud on the floor near the window. Hate to think what the kitchen looks like if they take so little pride in the area where customers eat. I would like to say I'll never return, but desperation for half-decent kung pao might bring me back for carry-out. AVL - come on! You can do better.

I hate to give bad ratings but this place is terrible. The general Tao 's chicken was flavorless. All around bland food.

Great food. Also a Los Angeles Transplant, so we've got some great Chinese to compare to. A lot of…read moreharsh comments on here. Alright, time to elaborate! Reasoning why I give it 4/5 stars 1. The Food. It's great. Chinese restaurants differ based on the province that the owners or owners parents originate from. So it may not taste like it did wherever you're from. This place is owned by genuine Asian people, with the looks and accents. Great signs for authentic foods. 2. The price. They have amazing pricing. Today I ordered orange chicken combo and 10 pieces of crab Rangoon's. More than generous portion, paid $16.82 exact. It fed my girlfriend, my 3yo daughter, and myself. Sometimes I'll order a teriyaki chicken combo as well, and between the two combos and rangoons we always have leftovers for the three of us. 3. The speed. Every single time I've came in here, I've been out within 10 minutes. That's ordering, paying, and getting my food. They're super efficient. And they're friendly. There's a language barrier so don't expect full fledge conversations, but they'll say thank you with a smile. Many folk around here won't even do that. So all in all, great food, great price, great portions, friendly attitude, clean restaurant. In LA we have restaurant depot so most kitchens use the same products. Here it's a free for all. So don't expect the same as another place. It's different in their ways but DELICOUS ways. I come here at least once a week after work. Working 3rd shift, these platters definitely smack. Don't shy away give em a shot. Don't know what to order? Just start with mine. Only negative is their menu is faded and LOOKS outdated. Not saying it is, just saying it looks. That's it

Need to work on customer service along with better food. Poor attitude & cold unflavored food. Not…read moreworth the time or dime! Plastic utensils & counts the paper plates to ensure you only get one.
