We are new homeowners in North Asheville. Last night we wanted some Chinese delivery for dinner. My spouse selected Asian Golden Buffet based on reviews. The food was great. The not fried fresh rolls with chicken were really good. The same for the shrimp mei fun and pork lo mien. I don't know for sure, but it appears that to/go orders are prepared fresh, and not off the buffet. Haven't tried the buffet yet. Any comments on it? Sounds good. Don't listen to any of the naysayer reviews - these people either have no idea how a buffet works or just think all Asian food is mediocre. Asian Golden Buffet has the highest quality of Asian food for the price anywhere in the country. I recommend going at peak hours of lunch and dinner time (11am to 1pm and 6pm to 8pm), and then keep an eye for what's being replaced. When each dish comes at of the kitchen it's at it's absolute peak point of culinary perfection. They do an amazing job of getting the texture right on those crispy, but saucy Chinese-American dishes we all love. And then there's so much tasty fried food (Sweet & Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon, Chicken Wings) that comes fresh out the fryer hot and cooked to perfection. Use your judgment! If it looks like fried chicken has been out for a while, it won't be as crispy! I recommend exercising patience because everything they make is great, and getting all the variety makes it a one of a kind dining experience. And they don't have just Chinese food! They have a few Thai dishes too! The women who run the place are really sweet and do a great job of staying on top of refilling drinks and checking in with you as you eat. This isn't a buffet where the staff is totally MIA, they're lovely people and its a great local business to support. Evidentially I'm a superfan of this establishment. I no longer live in the area but I drove two hours out of my this summer TWICE, both on the way up and down the eastern shore, just to come here. It truly is quite special. Enjoy! read more

Altho a small and limited buffet, they also have a menu with many selections for take out or sit down dinners. I have enjoyed coming to this buffet for at least 3 years. The owner is very personable and service is always a pleasure. Even tho I had two separate to-go orders prepared incorrectly/unsatisfactorily, just a quick phone call and they made good on the meals. We stopped in for an early lunch on a Monday. The space is small and pretty sure the building used to be an old Pizza Hut. The food was freshly made with a good amount of options but I would not say, "variety". That's where the buffet lacked. There were too many stir fry options which was a bit overwhelming for a buffet. The flavors were good, not too salty, and just the right amount of kick. After two plates, I was done. If you're looking to grab a quick lunch, for $10 a person, it's not a bad option. read more

Visiting from out of town and stopped here as it was near my hotel. 6PM on a Monday night. The restaurant is dark and divey. The buffet is small with about 2 dozen items. The hot and sour soup was pretty good and is usually an indication of how the rest of the food will be. There was only a few other diners at the time but the most of the items had been sitting a good while as they were sticking to the pans and were hard. Especially the chicken for the sweet and sour. Everything was old and hard and they were very slow to replace the items. I stuck around for about open hour and managed to vest s9me fresher food and it tasted good, I just wish they could keep up during a normal dinner hour. Drink not refilled until I was leaving and got a go cup. Price with tip was $20. Not great value. I'm sure there are better Asian buffets in Asheville. read more

My coworker and I were on our way to the airport and needed a lunch spot. We tried to go to another place in downtown but the parking is horrible! So we did some searching and found this place. Reviews were good so I thought we should try it. Wow, I was sorely mistaken!!! This place is not good at all. The only dish I found appetizing was the ginger pork dish. I'd eat that again. Other than that, there wasn't much else to like. The vegetable egg roll was basically filled with just cabbage. Might as well call them deep fried cabbage rolls. Same story for the chicken spring rolls. All cabbage, no chicken or other veggies. The spring roll and egg roll were both soggy and tasted gross. I had to spit them out, and I am not one to waste food ever! Most of the dishes were drowned in a sauce. I've never seen it like this. Looked like a big goopy mess. This also made the food look very unappealing. My coworker agreed that the food was not good either. I really wish I could say something good here, but I really can't give much positives. I would say save your money and go somewhere else. 100% pass on this place. read more

As a traveler I don't typically care much for atmosphere because it's the food that will drive you home. Needless to say the food was dry as if stale or reused chicken blocks. Service was good, no refills until I left. The price is what got me, the lady in the front informed me that it's was gonna be $25 (didn't think about it) but what they didn't mention was a service. Went on a Monday around 5:30pm. Seated right away. Place is dimly lit and looks a little grimy. Service was wonderful.. glasses stayed full, plates were cleared quickly and she brought one scoop of ice cream out at the end of our meal. The food: what was there was hot, some of it wasn't fresh at all. The sweet & sour chicken was nothing but small clumps of batter with a pea size of chicken in it. Rice was reheated mush. It's been 8 years since our Asian Buffet went out of business, and I have so missed it. This place is very small, which means you won't have to walk a long distance to get another plateful. And a bunch of people won't be breathing on the food. The food is typical Chinese buffet, without all the dishes I wonder "who would eat that?" It's good, it's handy, They open every day at 11AM. You nearly would have to accidentally sky dive here to find the place if you weren't looking for it. I struggle with this particular review because there is just SO MUCH potential in this place. Since this is a buffet I'll skip a run down on reviewing each item and just say how I felt about everything in general. What bothered me the most is that I wanted to love all the food, and I could have!' BUT...something was off on almost everything I had. The BBQ ribs tastes amazing - but the meat was like chewing on a tire, should have been cooked much longer over time with less heat. The lo mein tasted of high quality but was sitting out too long and had many hard bits and pieces I had to pull out of my mouth while eating. Now the pineapple chicken I thought okay this is going to be bad - but it was better than most items and I might even say it should be their signature dish, I really enjoyed it! I didn't hit the salad bar, to be honest I did not even think of it till leaving when I noticed it (separate wall from main buffet, guess I got tunnel vision when I saw all the Chinese food) but I could just tell it looked good. All in all, the lady that assisted us was very pleasant, everything was VERY clean, I think that the logo of their restaurant is epic and cute. So, I am giving this restaurant three stars due to the food fluctuating between mediocre and great. Staff very attentive. Constantly filling your glass. Constantly turning food so as to not look terrible. Not a huge selection like asiana. Refilling close to empty pans of food Today was first time. It's the old happy Jack's restaurant near olive garden. I was looking so forward to enjoying my meal. On some levels it was ok at best. But what stuck with me most was the amount of grease in spring rolls and egg rolls and chicken wings. Also the little cinnamon doughnut. Would I return possibly. You will get the clean plater award here...its so good!! We ate everything we chose. The food was fresh and delicious! The garlic chicken was amazeballs!!! The pineapple chicken was yummy. The buffalo wings were spicy-hot, yum. I liked the egg drop soup and the spring rolls. Sesame chicken was also on point. My kiddo liked the mint chip ice cream and chicken/veggie soup. The lady who I believe is the owner was so sweet. She had a lovely smile as well. I could tell she took pride in the place and wanted us to enjoy. It was clean and we had a nice quiet meal. It is not a big as some places nor does it have tons of choices on the line but they had quality cooked proteins and 4 soups, a fried area with egg rolls and such, a salad bar, and ice cream and jello. I don't eat sushi so I didnt miss that. My hubs does but the convenience made up for it. We hate having to drive out towards Arden or almost to Candler for a Asian buffet...this place is right off Tunnel rd! Heading back this weekend!!! read more
