    That's not onions!!

**Read the reviews!!! I used to love to eat here. The service is good and I used to think the food was good as well. Well, that changed really quick. During my recent visit I was eating their egg drop soup & found mold in their eggs... literal mold. I told the waitress and she said it was onions. Onions?!?!? Then she came back and said it had to do with the cooking and that it probably needed to be hotter. Never apologized and acted like I was crazy. They gave me like five different excuses as to why that wasn't old food and why it was most definitely NOT MOLD. Seriously, look at my pictures! That's not onions guys!! THEY STILL CHARGED ME FULL PRICE.

One of the better buffets in the area. Lots of stuff I wanted to go back for, but I do not have an endless pit of a stomach.

    Shogun Buffet hours

My friend and I ate at Shogun Buffet on September 29, 2023, and had a nice meal. The selection is huge, and the seating is ample. If you're traveling with a group of people with varied tastes, you can assure them that the buffet includes varied American food, also, including sandwiches, french fries, tacos! (at least on the day we there), and other items. There are also varied desserts, including ice cream and cookies. One earlier review mentioned that this restaurant is out of business, which is certainly not true! :-) I've attached a few photos from our September 29, 2023, visit as confirmation.

From the top left going clockwise: flounder, salmon, chicken, shrimp, fried fish, pot sticker, spring roll, crab rangoon, baked mussel.

A pretty good asian buffet overall. Dinner was ~$60 for 3 after tip and there was a wide range of food to choose from. My favorites were the flounder, the fried crab, the peeled spicy shrimp, and the orange chicken. The hibachi had a larger selection too, but the bean sprouts were very soft and old. The zucchini also tasted questionable and slightly sour so I had to separate it out when I was eating it. They thoroughly cooked the meat though. Everything is very oily and heavy by design, but there's also fruit like cantelope and honeydew. Desert includes ice cream, baked goods, and a flan type dish. The sushi was also questionable: almost every roll was just a california roll (imitation crab, avocado, cucumber) with various fish on top. I avoided the nigiri from previous buffet sushi experiences. The server picked up used plates very quickly which was appreciated. I think this is one of the best asian buffets in the area, but from what I've seen there isn't much competition.

Both the drinks and food were beyond exceptional. I couldn't tell you my favorite dish because everything was just so good. The restaurant is just beautiful and seating capacity is great--inside and outside. If weather is nice and permitting outside, you get a beautiful view of the mountains. The interior has a full bar and modern-decor. The menu features lots of creative fusion dishes. I enjoyed the avocado salad more than I expected. Maybe it was the ginger lemon dressing. It's light and filling. The ramen bowls are rich and the miso vegetarian Ramen is much more bold, flavorful than I had expected. The carrots and roots were caramelized with a sweetened hint. The ramen bowls are generous in size. I'm bookmarking this place to come back!!! The waitresses gave us several recommendations and her shows through her service and her recommendations of local shops to explore after our dinner.

The staff were extremely helpful. I mentioned I was looking for vegetarian options, and the bar tender thoughtfully guided me through the various options on both the tapas and ramen menus. That made for a great experience. In terms of the food, I opted for the miso eggplant and the garlic butter broccoli. Both were excellent. The miso eggplant is served as well cooked Japanese eggplant with a light tempura treatment and somewhat sweet miso glaze. Not too heavy, but still delicious and nicely textured. The broccoli was perfectly cooked with lots of flavor. It made for a nice pairing. In terms of beer, they had a few different local beers on tap. I went for a local pale ale. Great. In any case, this place is highly recommended. I suspect their vegetarian ramen would probably be pretty good, but that was a little heavier than what I was looking for. It was nice to have a few other vegetable forward options available as a backup.

The entire bowl was phenomenal & I wished we had gone back there, the boiled egg they gave was also roasted and the bamboo shoots were fresh, the meat so tender and juicy, and the broth is very tasty!! I craving it while typing and a watery mouth! My partner and I shared a Miso Ramen and I wish we had something similar where I live!!! The decorations were cool and retro and the staff were nice, just an odd waitress but food is amazing!

We had a lovely talk about food and how wonderful the food was. The food is authentic and spice can be adjusted. It was my bf first time having Pho and he would definitely be ordering it again. Next we had the pork shumai. Boy was this delicious. Came with 5pcs and a delicious plum sauce. I definitely will order this again. Last I ordered the Sesame chicken. I would easily say the star of the show. The breading on the chicken was light and crispy with a perfect thick glaze sauce. The side of jasmine rice made it a great hearty meal. This place was a fusion of Asian foods so I'm usually a bit reluctant to order anything too crazy so we stuck with what we knew. Spring rolls were fresh and tasty. Haven't had it with bell peppers before but it was good with the sauces. Green curry had good flavor but a touch loose for how I usually like it. Ginger salad came really overdressed so we didn't eat too much of that but we really liked the cucumbers. Whatever that sauce it was tossed in was very pleasant. We also enjoyed the stir fried eggplant dish with shrimp. It had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. Lastly I ordered the pad see ew, noodles cooked really well and all the textures were there. I could taste the char from the wok but it did lack that "sweet soy" flavor I'm looking for in this dish. I would say overall we enjoyed most of the dishes and some just needed a bit more flavor but it was still a good experience.

Staff is friendly. 8 out of 10 I personally feel the best time to come into the restaurant is between three and five. It's not as busy. The food is still fresh and delicious. I rate the atmosphere 7. out of 10. The restaurant is right next to the gas station. Don't let that fool you this is a great little hole in the wall to visit, talk with the staff. Yes, there is a language barrier to a degree but they're so friendly and nice to take a minute how are you doing? I took the time to talk with the owner of the restaurant, I personally feel getting to know your local restaurant owners and staff is a good thing. It'll make your dining experience better. Zew, started creating sushi and cooking Japanese food back in 2001, Mr. Sushi opened in 2017, there was not very many sushi restaurants in the Asheville then. There's been many sushi restaurants come and go since then. There are Sushi/ Japanese/Hibachi restaurants in the area, however this one is truly a wonderful restaurant to visit it's quaint and down to earth-place, this is why I highly recommend this restaurant this is restaurant. with great personality. Zew is. Owners he is a delight to talk with, you see the passion in his face when he's talking about his food that he's created the original rolls that he makes. I recommend trying the Rangoon roll. There's no fish in it. It's there's imitation crab. It's a wonderful thing that he is doing here and he has truly traditional Japanese fried noodles. Which is very much a difference between the Chinese way of cooking the noodles. As much as I'd like to give five stars I cannot because I rarely give five stars. I love this place. I would return to this place and I hope that you will come to this place too and enjoy wonderful sushi and a little a hole in the wall from somebody that has compassion for the food he creates.
