If I could leave NO STARS I would. My husband ate there Tuesday night and was sick all day Wednesday. It has to be difficult to cook and serve so much food at once and keep it at a temp that doesn't promote bacteria that will hurt your stomach. On top of that there are people eating who haven't washed their hands and are touching the food tongs, some of which are falling into the food (I should have taken a pic of that!). We came in toward the end of lunch, hoping we'd find a replacement for our lost Asiana. The soups were watery and not well seasoned. The wontons for the soup had cooked so long they were dissolving. None of the entrees we tried were well seasoned, just very bland. Most of the items were lukewarm, whether they were from the hot bars or cold bars. I confess I couldn't finish one thing I selected because everything was unappealing. Maybe it would have been better at the peak of a meal? Certainly not worth the price of a buffet. read more

Great selection of your typical American Chinese cuisine, and everything I tried - which was a little bit of everything - was good! Do not recommend the sushi as there was very little fish and quite a bit of cream cheese in the rolls. But if you like that sort of thing, it did taste fresh! Ok. Most of you know Asiana Buffet on Hendersonville Road has closed, much to the sorrow of their die-hard patrons! Since then, husband and I have tried several Chinese restaurants in town, all underwhelming. So we decided to give Shogun Buffet Hibachi Grill a try. Let me say this: the food choices were abundant and thoughtfully laid out by hot and cold and similar types of foods. There wasn't any loss of choice here. That said, while the food is decently prepared, all of the choices we ate were bland. Accommodatingn for all tastes? I dunno. We ate and got full. No problem. It's just that, while their variety is commendable, the taste was ... meh. I'm not sure we'll go back. [There were a lot of seniors there. My friend and I ate at Shogun Buffet on September 29, 2023, and had a nice meal. The selection is huge, and the seating is ample. If you're traveling with a group of people with varied tastes, you can assure them that the buffet includes varied American food, also, including sandwiches, french fries, tacos! (at least on the day we there), and other items. There are also varied desserts, including ice cream and cookies. A pretty good asian buffet overall. Dinner was ~$60 for 3 after tip and there was a wide range of food to choose from. My favorites were the flounder, the fried crab, the peeled spicy shrimp, and the orange chicken. The hibachi had a larger selection too, but the bean sprouts were very soft and old. The zucchini also tasted questionable and slightly sour so I had to separate it out when I was eating it. They thoroughly cooked the meat though. Everything is very oily and heavy by design, but there's also fruit like cantelope and honeydew. Desert includes ice cream, baked goods, and a flan type dish. The sushi was also questionable: almost every roll was just a california roll (imitation crab, avocado, cucumber) with various fish on top. I avoided the nigiri from previous buffet sushi experiences. The server picked up used plates very quickly which was appreciated. I think this is one of the best asian buffets in the area, but from what I've seen there isn't much competition. read more

I found broken glass in the kimchi. I asked the waiter about it and she didn't even care that there was a glass piece on their food and someone could have gotten seriously hurt. The food was good but beware of broken glass. The place was way too crowded. read more

Food was absolutely disgusting nothing tasted good at all. I'm not sure what happened over the past few years but highly do not recommend this place. They also charge out the butt for their food. I came here for lunch, it was recommended by a friend. The place is large, 8 bars w food and desserts, a small sushi case and a hibachi grill. The sushi was alright, fresh-ish ? The hot food was very good, EXCEPT for the fried rice. That was a huge disappointment... It was yellow rice with peas and carrots The dessert bar had a lot of choices. Me and 2 of my friends came to try it out. Food is mid at best in my opinion although my friends liked it pretty well. Then came the price. Boy oh boy where do i begin with this one. 55 dollars for 3 people. Came out to 18.46 a person after checking out which is probably dollar for food value the worst meal i have ever eaten and as I write this my stomach is churning. I came here while my Kia was in the Kia dealer shop for maintenance. Its an easy walk and beats waiting in a wait room. This place is BIG. There are 10 islands full of food. So its much larger than many Asian Buffets. The Asian buffet in Franklin NC where I live is only 3 of these islands, so less than 1/3 the size. Its so large its hard to see whats where, as its all over the place. The price is $8.99. Asheville can be a little pricey so this is good. Id say the quality of food is average. Ive been to many better, and some worse. There wasnt a lot of food I wanted to go back for more, You should though find enough to eat with the choices. Plus there are loads of desserts. One of the best buffets in Asheville. We stopped by today at 1pm. The place was full, the food was good, and the drink service was prompt. The buffet food turnover was fast thus ensuring the pans and prepared food spent little time as possible under the lamps. The most delicious part was the hibachi grill. You choose your raw ingredients, take to the grill cook and they prepare and return. The floors were clear and the line preparation was excellent. Good inspection score as well. The weekend dinner price is a little steep at $17 plus a $2.50 drink plus tax but seems everything is increasing. read more

After we ate we waited about another 15 min for our check . After we paid, our server came quickly for the check to see if we had tipped, which we did not (didn't think she deserved one, we didn't see her face not once until we asked for our check ) for as long as she took . This buffet will cost you about $10. They have a lot of choices but I wasn't necessarily a fan of most. Believe it or not, they had ham and I liked it the best. My favorite thing at a Chinese buffet is honey chicken. They had something labeled as honey chicken and it was orange. Like an idiot I grabbed a bunch. It has MUSTARD. I am a huge fan of AYCE hibachi grills, but this one isn't the best. It was a little bit over $9 (see pictures) for lunch, and that included the hibachi grill and the sushi (which was highly disappointing.) We were kind of upset because they didn't offer steak or shrimp on the hibachi bar until dinner, when other similar restaurants we've been to had it all day long. The meat that they did have on the hibachi bar happened to be imitation crab, chicken, and pork. The chicken and the pork had a really weird texture to it and did not taste good at all. I ended up getting a second plate of just noodles and vegetables, and it was great! We also had a great experience with our waitress, she kept our glasses full, but we honestly felt like other employees were sitting around and staring at us as we ate. We wanted to snap more pictures of the buffet areas, but we were hesitant because we felt like eyes were on us at all times. To sum it all up, I really truly feel like this place is a hit or miss... Chinese buffet. Traveling to Asheville we decided to stop off and try shogun. It's actually quite the large place. It was clean and well appointed for such a large place. The dinner buffet set as back $13 and came with quite the array of Asian fare. They also have a hibachi station in back where you can pick out your raw food and have it cooked in front of you. Sushi options were also available. The service was friendly and the food quite good for a Chinese buffet. Highly recommend. read more

We randomly stopped in Sunday after church for lunch and the place was packed with about 8 families waiting ahead of of us. They got us in pretty quickly though maybe a 10 minute wait. I don't indulge in one thing I try to sample a little of everything. First I'd like to say the best thing they offer here is their hibachi bar, everything was good off it except the chicken was little frozen patties so I didn't try that but the steak & shrimp were good. The sushi bar looked good but the 3 I tried just weren't that great. They seemed to have been sitting out a while or something bc 2 were mushy. Now for the buffet, the selection is great but what you eat will be either hit or miss with flavor. Most of the chicken was good, coconut shrimp was good, fried rice & noodles were ok, egg roll, fried bananas, and crab rangoons were all good, crab meat was good but was disappointed I didn't see actual crab legs only mini full crabs. The desert bar was ok. Had some cake, some cheesecake (but no fruit toppings so that was disappointing), cookies, rice crispy treats and a decent ice cream selection. All in all, this place is good for a quick buffet. Tons of food options but we ended up spending $40 for 2 people with waters which seems a little high for a buffet but then again if you eat the hibachi then it seems fair I suppose. We decided to give another Chinese buffet a try after swearing we would never go back to Asiana again. Asiana, as foul as it is, is a Michelin Star restaurant compared to Shogun. Nothing was appealing, nothing was hot, no tray was even half full. The few things I was brave enough to try were soft, soggy and tasteless except for the stuff that was entirely too salty. I usually at least try to get my money's worth at the sushi bar but there was one tray with what looked like last week's leftovers sitting there developing hard crusty edges while I watched. No thanks. Even with the water bubbling and steaming under the trays, none of the food was hot. The wait staff seemed completely disinterested, as did the woman at the register when we complained. I should have known I was in for trouble when I picked up the first cheap plastic plate. As we were getting ready to leave, a customer who had left the restaurant previously came back in and began taking pictures of the ceiling right over the food area. We were curious so took a look on the way to the register and saw that he was taking pics of a huge black mold covered vent! SO DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!! Believe me, in this town you CAN find a lot of great food for the same price or lower so a small budget is no excuse. Do yourself a huge favor and NEVER EAT HERE. Stopped for supper last night after a visit to the Outlet mall across the road. Restaraunt was clean, attractive, and very reasonably priced. Dinner buffet $11.99 per person (lunch posted at $8.95). Selections were very wide spread, different steam tables for different types of dishes. Very good variety, including some thing like pizza, prime rib pieces and such that you don't normally find in an Asian buffet. All dishes were pretty good, but as in any buffet a few things were a bit "tired" although they seemed to be very on top of refreshing renewing things. Sushi was pretty good, too, and we didn't try the Hibachi. A definite step up from Yao in West Asheville. Overall a good visit, and we'd definitely stop there again. read more
