I've been there several times and usually when there's not a lot of people there . And by not a lot of people I mean, maybe a party or two there but that's probably it. I came in today Sunday around 1:30 30 and there were a few more people already seated. The sushi chef was not behind the bar. Hmm What was going on here? I kept on asking where was he, and the waitress kept saying he'll be out in a minute. I waited for probably 15 minutes. I was starving so I ordered my usual from him, and I got the food and I knew it looked different but I was SO hungry. I ate it anyway. There was NO seafood in this roll. I said something to him about the roll, He didn't even look up he could care less. I said something to the waitress and she could care less. Let's just say we were not impressed. we picked this place because the reviews sounded good.. But someone isn't telling the truth. Our evening had already started off bad when we walked in and saw that their health code score was a 93.something. thats a red flag and honestly scary. The food was sub par wasnt a finish the whole plate kind of meal, and the waitress barely spoke English and was super rude, she didn't even give us what we ordered and tried to argue with us about what WE know we ordered. She was rushing us through our meal the whole time. the ambiance was a little cold considering how cold it is outside and it was pretty dark, probably hiding the dirty. The food from this place used to be better. We had a big family takeout order and literally threw away the bbq pork entree because it tasted like an ingredient had gone rancid. The general tso's chicken and egg drop wonton soup were both passable for a 4 star review. The other 3 entrees were all mid. Lacking flavor yet goopy from being oversauced, and overcooked everything. The service was hands down the best thing here. Our server was delightful! Sweet and extremely attentive. The ambiance was also quite nice; the room can seat quite a few people. I just would not return for the sushi. I'm sorry to say that although it wasn't bad per se, the nigiri were too thickly cut and the rolls... well the comment at the table was how similar the rolls were to packaged grocery sushi. We are repeat customers but will not be returning. Elderly Asian manager treats staff and customers rudely and is overtly, visibly racist and genuinely hateful to attractive, non asian women . I have heard about problematic behaviors before and witnessed it twice recently. One time I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt but the next time confirmed rumors. I really wanted to like this place bc we don't have any good old fashioned Chinese restaurants in south AVL, Fletcher or Fairview . But, this place is just another weird Pan-Asian-Fusion joint and another bad attempt at that. (Side note: I don't understand this trend where Chinese, Japanese, Thai restaurants, etc try to cover all of Asia! All these cuisines are so different and require different cooking techniques and traditions. Lumping them together is usually a sign that the restaurant is just trying to be everything to everyone and it's usually a red flag! Case in point!) Their online ordering is so discombobulated: the proteins, the veg, the sizes, the sauces, it's all listed separately and it's confusing and inefficient. Ended up ordering a couple of basic things to see if it passed muster: spring rolls, sesame chicken and hibachi steak and vegetables. Pretty easy right? Apparently not. (I am no expert on all asian foods but have tried some very non-Americanized dishes especially in some of the big city china towns and abroad- and I certainly don't expect authenticity so the bar wasn't set high here.) The spring rolls were "fine", albeit a bit on the overly salty side. They were crisp and filled with plenty of veg- so ok. The chicken looked "fine"; glossy and somewhat saucy with sesame seeds on top- but the chicken was very overcooked. The pieces were all sizes from tiny to quite large- and the sauce, which I was expecting to be very sweet (because it looked like it would be) was actually the best part, even a little on the bland side. The dish was hard to eat and very chewy. Last but not least - Hibachi steak which I thought would be safe as the sauce is on the side and it's basically just grilled on a flat griddle with veg. But... steak was cubed and hard as a rock. It wasn't as much overcooked (and under-seasoned) as it was just a very cheap cut of beef that hadn't even been velveted or tenderized in any way. The broccoli was almost raw and the carrots looked as though they had been separately steamed, not grilled- and were so sweet- def sugar was added there. But Why??? I don't understand! We ended up throwing most of the hibachi dish away because it was inedible. Don't waste your money. Super disappointing. read more

Let me tell you the absolute best crab rangoons I've ever had. The crab stuffed jumbo shrimp came with a huge portion, in a delicious sauce. I think it was real crab meat and not imitation as well. Mostly Asheville has the saddest excuse for Asian cuisine but this place blew my mind especially since it's Asian fusion. I really like this place. It's unique in that it's one business with two names- "Asian On The Go" and "Pacific Pagoda". Pacific Pagoda refers to the sit-down restaurant and sushi bar part. It's cute inside. The booths are built with little roofs that make them feel like little individual rooms. It's intimate and different. The menu is extremely extensive. It's often difficult to choose a meal because there are so many options. I like most of the food there. They have really fun cocktails that were presented beautifully with fruits and cute glasses. One thing I'm not in love with is their interpretation of Tom Yum Soup. They make it thick similar to an egg drop soup, which is not something I am used to. Overall I really enjoy the excellent service and delicious food. It's also very close to home, so you can't beat that! read more

Rudest waitress I ever had. She got our orders wrong and then got mad at us for speaking up about it! The miso soup was cold and had a fishy taste to it. Most of the staff can barely speak English, so trying to explain what you want to them is an exercise in futility. Sushi appeared to have made and frozen ahead of time. This is phenomenal. All the sushi is terrific . I've eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. Tonight we split the Wasabi Roll - don't let it scare you, it's not super hot. The " wasabi" part is honey wasabi. The lobster salad and advacado on top really makr it delicious.. we also had the classics - spicey tuna, Boston roll and a crab roll. Spicy tuna and Boston rolls were awesome. The crab roll is still a 4/5... best to say it was our least favorite. Crab Rangoon was perfectly done and the sweet sauce was great. My father and I came here for dinner last night and we had quite possibly the worst service you could ever imagine. First to start whenever I asked our server questions about the menu she couldn't answer any of my questions because she didn't know the answers. Second she also never came to check on us or refill our drinks or even ask how we were doing. I asked if the green tea was oolong or the gross powder and she had no clue--she said it was in a bag and then brought me the gross powder green tea. There was also a crack in my water glass but I couldn't tell our server because she never came back to our table for 45 minutes. Next thing I'd like to add was even though we were one of the first of the Valentine's Day rush to be seated, we gave her our sushi order immediately and after 45 minutes of waiting she brought us our entrees and apologized and said that the sushi bar was backed up because well, oops I guess everyone wanted sushi. After being done with our meals and the sushi still hadn't come (while watching the tables near us getting their sushi delivered when we ordered before them) we asked her to take it off our check. When I talked to whoever the "manager" looking woman was there about why there was a lack of staff, her response was..."I think it's a culture thing." Seriously? That's what you want your management telling your customers? It's a culture thing? I tried to have sympathy since I've worked in the industry before (for 15 years) and even worked at an Asian Fusion Sushi joint that was always slammed for 4 years after college but the excuses and the lack of communication and knowledge at this place was so ridiculous that even though our entrees were decent...it didn't make up for the poor experience we had. read more

I used to love this restaurant and a couple of months ago I would have given it 5 stars but the last two takeouts have been awful. Most recent order was chicken with broccoli and it was mostly broccoli. I always thought the first product in the name was the most but guess not! Very little chicken, mostly broccoli and hardly any sauce. In the end it was tasteless. I might give one more chance as I'm not sure what happened but they went from great to yuck. read more

I never expected amazing Asian food from a place in a strip mall. Pacific Pagoda offers simple, traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Thai fare made with super-fresh ingredients. Try the Mei Fun noodles with still-crispy sautéed veggies and a protein of your choice ~ yummy, slightly smoky, and just barely sweet! Request to-order Teppanyaki dishes ~ expertly seasoned and never over-cooked. So many great options for both meat eaters and vegetarians! Service is fast and pleasant. Atmosphere is a cozy, club feel with private high-backed booths and gentle lighting. And it's all very clean. We have yet to explore the sushi bar; but a quick stroll-by promises good things. Have made our way to Pacific Pagoda twice now in the last couple of weeks. Hubby and I sampled several menu items on our first visit. Started with some fresh sushi - Yellowtail, Salmon & Red Snapper and a California Roll. Both fresh and tasty. Also had a Spring Roll served with dipping sauce. Then we made our way to the entrees. Hard to find decent sweet and sour dinners so that's what I tried on our first visit. Hubby had the Shrimp and Vegetables Tempura. We walked out with To Go boxes as the meals were plentiful and exceeded our expectations. Popped in for another visit with daughter and her boyfriend. Went straight for more sushi. Tried the Pad Thai this time and was not disappointed. Great flavor--detected a hint of ginger and a nice kick. They both had the Hibachi dinners, one went with Chicken and the other Steak. Service was outstanding both times. The first was on a Saturday Night late and most recently was Friday night in the middle of their rush. It was busy and we still had excellent service by Peter on both occasions. Location is convenient, space is clean and can't wait to go back and sit and watch Andy, the owner, prepare the sushi at the sushi bar! read more
